On numerous occasions, we have taken…read moreadvantage of the fact that this cabin in Indian Gardens is available for rental by residents and various organizations. Rentals are available in six-hour time slots and you can even rent overnight! When I was in elementary school, my friend had the "coolest" birthday party ever: a sleepover at the Scout Cabin! We enjoyed cuddling in sleeping bags and listening to my friend's dad tell ghost stories about the cabin. In the past, my family has rented out the cabin for big picnics during the summer, which were always a HUGE hit among our relatives and friends. We have also rented the cabin most recently for a few graduation parties. My dad always does the actually renting, but the process seems pretty straightforward: go to the Riverside Water Tower to complete a rental form, show your ID, get approval. You can pick up the key right ahead of time and be sure you bring it back at the end of the day (or night, depending on the hours you agreed upon). Renting the Scout Cabin is really a blast. There is a long winding driveway leading up to the cabin, which sits practically right on the river and among lots of trees and vegetation. We always have fun decorating the posts at the front of the driveway with balloons or signs welcoming our guests. There is a small parking area right next to the cabin, which we usually reserve for our elderly guests; the rest park on the street. The cabin comes with a bunch of different items like picnic tables, a fridge, a microwave, two bathrooms (one for men, one for women), etc. There's also a grill outside and TONS of lovely green space for outdoor games. We've had water balloon tosses, badminton games, soccer games, you name it. I highly recommend renting out the Scout Cabin for your event or party. I promise it'll be a huge hit! Tip: In the summer months, the mosquitoes are particularly brutal. Be sure to bring bug spray, especially if you plan on hiking on the river trail near the cabin or playing games outside.

"Why didn't those old men let Dad play bocce ball with them?" -Things I asked my mom in regard to family reunions from the late 1980s to early 1990s. A distant family member (not a resident of ANY of the above mentioned homes), is a genealogy enthusiast and wanted to do another family reunion. Unfortunately, it wasn't at any of the ultra-cool homes I remember from being a kid (the owners of the Frank Lloyd Wright house have since sold, moved to Arizona, and are 90+ years old now). So we were left with a few options... My visit to the Sokol Brookfield was for a family reunion this weekend for about 60 people. They chose the Sokol for the central location and price. At $12.50/person, we were able to rent out the space which included fried chicken, pizzas, various Pepsi products, a keg of beer and 2 security guards. That's a pretty oddball combination of things, and I don't know why we needed security. Our family contributed individual dishes to the meal as well. The fried chicken was very good, but the pizza was not good. Edible, yes, but I didn't go back for a second slice. I didn't catch a glimpse of what vendors the Sokol uses, but during those preliminary e-mails from family, they seemed very flexible about packages. They are not at ALL your stuffy, cookie-cutter banquet hall. It appears that our family was responsible for the set-up as well, from setting up tables to warming up dishes. Our pierogi arrived late, but only because the caterer didn't know it was supposed to be delivered. Aside from security, there is no "planner" or on-site assistant available. For the price, this venue is great for an extremely tight-budget wedding or reunion. It's very no-frills both inside and out, but the space could've easily held possibly 100 (or more) people. It's your typical VFW-style hall: brown paneled walls, white vinyl tile floors, and it's located in the basement of the building which unfortunately had a gross mildew smell in the entrance. The parking lot is a bit small considering how many people can fit into this space, but I didn't hear any complaints, so I am assuming there is easily accessible street parking in the area. I don't think I would organize my own event at the Sokol, but that's mainly because there are so many other venues like it. There's enough room here to spread out and not be forced into awkward chit-chat with your second-cousin's child from a third marriage.

We took our 7 and 4 year old grandbabies to visit the splash park here. For a mere 3 measley…read moredollars per kid ( adults free!!!!!!) my kids were able to run wild with other same age kids thru different water park play areas. There is a dual slide in the center of the park that gets the most action. It is great for kiddos age 3 to 9. There are also spray spots all over the play area and large overhead buckets that fill up and spill onto whoever stands underneath. There are sturdy loungers for parents and Oma's like me to sit on as well as a covered area with picnic chairs you can sit under. There is a guard to make sure kids behave. There are clean single toilets right outside the splash park. Outside the splash park is a 4 story mega slide that was amazing. After splashing, the kids must have climbed that slide 30 times before we left to go home. My kiddos were beat after we left. And that is a miracle my friends!

The big kids like to come in and play because it's fun but sometimes they're a little rough and the little toddlers get pushed around. In reviewing them, it is obvious that you have had some strong concerns about how things have occurred in the past and some of the previous communication about these situations. First and foremost we are a member-driven organization, but more than that we are a place where our members can come to enjoy their time with friends and family in a safe, relaxed and fun environment. At the "V" we consider ourselves more than a pool; it is really a place in the neighborhood where our member families can enjoy the summer! Just like any organization, we have some things that require maintenance like the pool, the grounds and our clubhouse. Over the past 2 years, we needed to put in place a "special assessment" that would allow us not only to improve the pool facilities, but to enhance the experience of our club through a renovated pool house, improved landscaping to our grounds and a clean and safe pool. I would encourage any existing, new or future members to come and see the architectural plans we will be executing on our pool house this year, they are remarkable! I think that you will find as although we have a focused improvement plan on the above areas, we also continue to focus on improving the overall experience for our member families. The "V" has a long standing reputation as a positive environment in our community and for our member families, we will continue to grow and foster this reputation. We realize that what we provide may not appeal to everyone but also know that the our communal grill area, scenic grounds, competitive swim team, social activities for both adults and kids, affordability and general fellowship do appeal to many families in our community. Never need a play date when the weather is nice. It's old fashioned fun. The nasty comments on here are of people that want to imagine that the VFC should be a country club. Street parking or lot parking depending on the time could be slightly challenging but you should be fine. I chose a starter pack and it was a decent price.
