When I made my initial appointment I provided my insurance information…read more When I came for my appointment I was told that my insurance did not cover hearing aids. After the audiology intern completed the hearing test she said she didn't have time to fit me for hearing aids even though when I made the appointment I had told the scheduler that I was coming for a hearing test and hearing aids I waited in the waiting room until the intern saw her next client and then she fitted me for the hearing aids. Since I didn't have coverage for the hearing aids she said the price for highest technology was $6100. I opted for next level down at $5100 and I would have to pay at that time. When I went to pay at the front desk I was told that I could pay when I picked the hearing aids up and that Dr. Curtis sometimes gets better prices. A few days later I discovered that my insurance DOES have a hearing aid discount plan (through AARP). AND that Rocky Mountain Hearing and Balance are one of the AARP providers. Bottom line, I could have gotten the hearing aids for about $3600 instead of $6100 but they failed to let me know about this - even though they were aware of my insurance benefits. After purchasing top level technology hearing aids from a licensed audiologist for a couple of thousand dollars less at the University of Utah I emailed Rocky Mountain Hearing and Balance to let them know why I did not return to pick up the hearing aids from them. They failed to acknowledge or respond. ***addendum - A few weeks later, after taking the time to investigate the issues and speak with staff, Chris Curtis responded to my email with a thoughtful, kind apology. If I hadn't already purchased hearing aids from the University of Utah I would have returned to this practice. The staff are warm and friendly and seem to genuinely like working there. I have changed my rating from one star to four despite the problems I had, which as it turns out were unintentional.

Again I had no idea what I was getting sold as this was my first time with hearing aids. I was told after some time if I wanted to change out for a different brand I could change. I asked to change but was urged by Ryan to keep what I had. After some time I said I wanted to change and was told it was too late. I was initially told I had a 3 year warranty and after told only one. After all I paid 3k for hearing aids and told I'd need to pay another 3k to get what I needed and told by Jay the owner that what I had was garbage and the would never have sold me them. House of Hearing is a joke! If you want to get treated right look elsewhere. I'd highly recommend Utah Medical hearing!

had an extremely upsetting experience with Advanced Sports Medicine Clinic…read more I came in experiencing significant lower back pain, and I specifically told the doctor that I was also having abdominal pain and symptoms that were concerning to me. The Doctor still proceeded and gave me two steroid injections in my lower back. Shortly after being seen there. my condition became significantly worse and I ended up in the ER. I went into urinary retention, required a catheter, developed severe weakness in my legs, and eventually lost the ability to walk normally. I was ultimately hospitalized while doctors tried to determine what was happening. What has been especially difficult for me is knowing that I was trying to communicate that something felt seriously wrong with my body before everything escalated. Regardless of what ultimately caused my neurological symptoms, I wish my concerns and the combination of symptoms I was reporting had been taken more seriously and that I had been advised to seek a higher level of medical evaluation. After everything I went through--the ER, hospitalization, skilled nursing home, loss of mobility, bladder issues, and the ongoing recovery, I was honestly shocked that the clinic had the audacity to call me and still pursue my copay as though this had been an ordinary visit after what they put me through, given the circumstances, I would have expected significantly more compassion and consideration. This experience has had an enormous impact on my life, and unfortunately I would not feel comfortable returning to this clinic or recommending it to someone experiencing complex or rapidly worsening symptoms under this clinics care.

I'm so incredibly disappointed with how I was treated as a patient after seeing Dr. Alder for 20…read moreyears, especially since my whole family goes to him for care. Dr. Alder was out of my network after just switching insurance but I felt a loyalty to him since I had seen him for so long and he knew my history better than anyone else. This was a big deal to me because I'm a poor PHD student who can't afford out of network care but made an exception for this case. I made an appointment to see him which felt incredibly rushed and I didn't feel good about how quickly I felt hurried out of his office. After getting my glasses from an online retailer I felt something was off with my prescription. I also got contacts for the first time and my eyes couldn't adjust to the new prescription and that indicated something was for sure wrong with my prescription. I felt like I needed to see him again so I went into the office and spoke with one of his nurses. I asked her if I could be seen again with no charge if my prescription was wrong and she assured me I wouldn't be charged for that appointment. When I saw Dr. Alder again, my prescription was indeed incorrect. He wrote me a new prescription and charged me for the visit, even after his nurse told me I wouldn't be charged. When I asked his billing department why I was charged they told me it was because there was a four week gap between my initial appointment and the revisit (this is how long it took to go through the try on process of online glasses shopping and actually to actually receive my glasses). He then charged me a high rate for my contacts which I did not authorize them to purchase and order for me. After I thought all was said and done they sent me another bill with no context. I called and told them I had paid around $600.00 just to get my prescription and they dropped the charge. Dr. Alder was so cold, rude, and rushed every time I visited his office. I feel so violated and taken advantage of. I don't know if he has been in the business too long and doesn't truly care about every patient but I strongly urge anyone considering going to him to find another doctor. I've never, ever, been treated like this as a patient.
