Why this Man and the Cardiac Cath program has such a good reputation is all smoke and mirrors.
He developed a "book" they follow to pad the statics.
The rating system is filled with statistical "modifiers" which weight each case differently. For instance, complications or deaths for emergency cases are weighted less than elective cases- so, everything even remotely high risk is an emergency case.
The same is true for different interventions. So when a routine angiogram or intervention goes sideways, they will unnecessarily add on extra stuff so the procedure that went sideways doesn't look so bad for them.
There is literally a procedural playbook "if this happens...... we do this" to fudge the numbers.
It's all fake, it's all bs and it's all about marketing. I learned this after it was all too late and my family had entrusted him. The experience at Mt Sinai Heart, With Dr Sharma and his team was terrible. After the procedure- while you're on your deathbed you receive zero followup from him- only from his residents.
With that aside; one of my mom's complications was a clotted artery that was her dialysis lifeline. This needed timely intervention before it was permanently rendered useless. A financial decision by the hospital was made to delay opening it up- because they did not want to open up another operating room at 9 PM on a Saturday night. This caused her to loose her last available dialysis access.
I was explicitly told by her surgeon that the reason for delay was that they did not want to open another OR for one single case.
This makes sense, because prior to Dr. Sharma's marketing strategy- Mount Sinai was on the verge or Bankruptcy.
Stick with the real top hospitals: NYP, Cornell, NYU.
