This is a little late but the saying is, better late than never. Honestly, I thought I had left a…read morereview but when I checked, it was not here so here it goes... For my husband's birthday I decided to give him a charter fishing trip. We woke up bright and early and signed in. My husband told me to take seasick pill even after I told him that I don't get seasick. I kind of think this was the cause because... Yep, you guessed it, after we were on the bumpy water and I had caught one whole fish, I started feeding the fish. My entire trip was me feeding fish. Oh, wait, except the one time I decided to feed try the reel again and slipped going head to head with the fish in the bins beneath me. I could have sworn one was screaming "Nooooooo!!!!" As I was trying to avoid him. The crew was so amazing! They had to try and balance taking care of me along with the many fishermen/women/kids. They even changed location of smoking because I told them it was making it worse for me (yes, they smoke on the boat). The crew caught my fish for me so when hubby and the rest were finished we had plenty of fish. I highly recommend taking this charter and plan on going again sooner than later...but without the seasick pills. Really, I think that was the cause. ;) ........ .. .... ....................

Captain Kurt was so awesome, he even caught us a fish from him for our honeymoon and made a special stop for us so we could get pictures of the lighthouse. The deckhand was a superstar, very helpful and professional. We caught our limit, it's VERY affordable and we had a great trip. We most definitely will be back!!!!

The marina has over 400 moorage slips, a six lane boat launch, fish cleaning stations, restrooms and showers. The RV park offers full hook-ups, restrooms, showers, laudromat, and recreation room. Both offer daily, weekly and monthly rates. It's a great place to charter a boat for fishing. The rates are pretty reasonable in this small coastal town. You can also try to fish or crab on your own from the dock. We enjoyed our time here. Everyone was so friendly and willing to share their fishing adventures with us. We would definitely recommend if you're looking for a place to charter a boat or fish off the dock while staying at the RV park.

Yep. That's right. In between all of the commercial vessels that call this marina home you'll find locals and visitors trying their hand at catching a Dungeness crab. Charleston Marina is one of the top recommendations for crabbing from shore. It's easily accessed, spacious, and can be productive. I was amazed at how many people were hanging out trying their luck. We dropped our first crab ring, and after a few minutes we pulled it up and found a lot of crabs! None were keepers but it was so cool to know all of them were hanging out. This is a must do during your visit and the bait shop near the docks offers the equipment for rent, so make it happen. You'll also find a lot of charter boats leaving from here too. I took one but that's another review!

Now I get seasick REALLY easily, and I've avoided offshore fishing for a long time. After failing to go fishing in Fort Bragg, I started looking into land based opportunities in Coos Bay at the local tackle shop, and while there they told me about Capt. John and the Compass Rose. I started chatting with Captain John and he was understanding of my situation but super reassuring, and by the end of the day I was looking forward to going on an AM trip the next morning. Sadly that plan was foiled by a sick kid, but Capt. John is great at updating his social media and I caught the very successful morning report (2 hours and limited out - totally flat seas) and I made the call to jump on in the afternoon hoping to find the same slick calm seas. NOW... Capt. John and his mate put us on the fish! We limited out on rockfish within two or three drifts. We fished long leaders on electric reels baited with teasers and squid. It did the trick and each drop we'd get 2-3 fish on average, many larger too. From there we went to the crab pots and each of those was stacked too! Limits all around and a nice experience! BUT... Seas were a solid 4-6ft that day, by my estimate, and to no fault of the captain, all but one fishing on the boat was over the side at points during the trip. Now the Compass Rose is a nice boat. Nice new fishing gear. New electronics. Newer and smooth running motors. Suspension ride seats in the cabin. Space for 6 fishing, captain and a mate. I have no doubt under certain circumstances this boat is a nice ride and a pleasure to be on, but this day the seas had another plan and no amount of niceties would help. I still had a blast and would recommend hiring Capt. John to get you out when you're in the area!
