I'm sure I'm in the minority on this review, so take it for what it's worth. I came because A) I'd heard great things about Shark's homemade custard/ice cream and B) I wanted ice cream. It's obviously very popular with the locals, and that's always a good sign. I really love places that are overly generous with their portion sizes while keeping prices reasonable. Shark's has that going for them. As for my treat selection, I chose Peanut Butter Cup. I failed to look at it in the case first, or else I would have seen that it was a vanilla base rather than the chocolate I've grown accustomed to. It was okay. I'm guessing it was just this particular kind, but I just didn't think it had any great flavor to it. Certainly it wasn't bad, it just seemed plain and nothing was shouting "HOMEMADE" to me. Two bits worth noting: it's cash only (ATM on site, but I never have cash on me and get aggravated when I'm forced to), and everyone else in my party of 4 really liked their selections. Not the place to go for a burger or pie or anything but frozen deserts. but they do them well, have a large selection, enormous portions and plenty of space to enjoy them, indoors and out. The enormity of their scoops is hard to exaggerate. We always get the baby size. If you are really wanting to wallow in a hefty serving, get the regular or small size. Wow, I can't believe there are so few reviews for this place, with most of them being pretty negative. I've been coming here since I was a kid- about once per summer- and have always loved the ice cream. I went back yesterday and ordered a kiddie in a waffle cone with mint chocolate chip and a smaller scoop of the chocolate butter fudge. So much ice cream for only $3.50! I have yet to find anything close to that deal with regards to homemade ice cream places. The mint was amazing. Don't let the intensely food coloring green color throw you-- it is seriously minty! The strongest mint flavor and largest chocolate pieces I've ever had. The butter chocolate fudge was a pretty big disappointment in comparison-- maybe it just paled next to the strong flavor of the mint but it honestly didn't taste that chocolatey to me and was very plain. There was no fudge in it that I could see or taste. All in all, totally worth it for the great value and wide selection of flavors. Honestly, I didn't even look at the butter chocolate before ordering it so that was partly my mistake. The place was clean and the people were very friendly. My son got the orange sherbet and it was probably the best orange sherbet I have ever tasted. EVER. My parents, boyfriend and I went to Shark's Custard & Candy a few days ago on our way home from the Genesee Country Village. I was very excited when I saw the Homemade ice cream sign, and it's the only reason we stopped. The parking lot was really full and people parked wherever they wanted to, they didn't seem to care if they were blocking other cars from backing up. We walked up onto a porch filled with picnic tables before heading inside. We entered through their dining room, which had a neat fish tank in it. Then we went to their ice cream area. They had a large open area, with their display cases creating a serving/ordering area. I think they could have benefited from some ropes to form a queue line and signage telling people where to order/pick up/pay. The servers quickly hounded us about what we wanted, but we had barely looked at the menu. I was still studying what hard ice cream they had and what all the different options were. My dad went first, and he ordered a small custard twist in a wafer (cake) cone. His "small" cone was huge and SLOPPY! His small cone was as big as some places large. It was also all over the place and not twirled nicely. My mom then ordered a kiddie scoop of heath bar crunch. After the server put a large scoop in the dish, my mom asked the girl "That's a kiddie?" to which the server responded "No, there's going to be another half scoop on top." The size was ridiculous! It's as large as some place's 2 scoops. My boyfriend and I ordered regular size hot fudge sundaes, which they proceeded to make in 16 oz. soda cups! They layered on hot fudge, spanish peanuts, whipped cream and a cherry. The spanish peanuts were kinda gross, and I assumed I would get chopped peanuts, like every other ice cream store. The sundaes were so big, I felt disgusted I had got it. The servers take one order at a time, make it, and come back for the next order. This wastes time! They should display their sizes, because compared to their prices, the sizes of ice cream are crazy. I would have never ordered a sundae if I had known it was that much ice cream. My boyfriend and I could have just shared. In fact, 2/3 of my sundae is still sitting in the freezer, getting icy. My mom ate about half of her ice cream. When people order a kiddie amount, it's generally because they want a small amount of ice cream, not because they want a lot. Make your sizes smaller!!! I went back to ask about the butterfat content of the ice cream, which required 4 servers help. They showed me the carton of vanilla custard, which was 10 percent. I asked if the chocolate was the same, and they said yes. I then asked about the hard ice cream, which all the could tell me was premium ice cream mix, so that meant it was 14 to 17% butterfat. WRONG! If it's premium mix, then it's 12%. Super premium is 14%. Ultra premium is 16%. (This is assuming it's from Upstate Farms, because that's where they got all their other dairy from, but they had no clue where the mix came from). This really isn't the servers fault, because they're using the information that's been given to them. The owner or manager should be giving them correct information, and should give them a nutrition book so that they can actually answer customer's questions correctly. Oh, they also had no clue what they were talking about with sherbet. The servers proudly informed me that sherbet has the same amount of butterfat content as the ice cream and 3 times as much sugar (even though I asked nothing about their fakely colored sherbet). If their sherbet has as much butterfat as the ice cream, it is being made wrong! They might wanna google sherbet and learn a thing or two. By the way, the ice cream wasn't even that good. So much for homemade ice cream. I would've gotten the same quality product from the super market. Make something yummy, please!!! Erin says...you suck! read more

There are a lot of different flavors to choose from. The portion sizes are huge, to say the least. The prices are some of the cheapest for homemade ice cream. Just make sure you order the right size.
