Lazy River on a two man tube.
Kathy F.

This is such a great place for families. We are three generations spending as much time as we can at this Sunriver complex. My favorite is the Lazy River, my grands love the outdoor slides and the indoor water features. During the pandemic they started a reservation system. It's still happening, but if you're new to the area you may be disappointed to find out that you need pre approved passes. They currently have three two hour sessions. You must arrive an hour before to get a timed pass, along with your SHARQ pass. Only one person needs to wait in line for your entire group. Good luck getting entry into your favorite timeframe.

This place is perfect for families. The food is actually decent (for pool fare) and comes out quickly. The seating area is moderately large so we didn't have to wait long for seating. I love that they have both indoor and outdoor pools and kids areas. The pools are all heated but sometimes it's still a little cold when it's not super warm out. I wish there was a hot tub that kids could go in but I appreciate that they do have an adults only one. My kids really loved the little slide in the outdoor shallow play area (they weren't tall enough for the bigger slides). The lazy river can definitely get way too crowded but it was still very relaxing. The changing rooms were big and clean and nice. For sure a great place to vacation w kids.

Echoing what other reviews have stated: SHARC is expensive. The entry fee is $25 for anyone ages 4 and older. This includes parents who want to supervise their kids, but not get into the water. We've paid $100 in the past for our family of 4 to go and it takes a bit of fun out of the experience. My best tip is to find Sunriver rentals that include free SHARC passes. Many rental houses have 8-10 plastic cards hanging in their houses. Each card is good for one visit per person per day. Ask your rental companies if the houses include passes. SHARC does not allow outside food. I usually load a cooler with food, keep it in my car, and eat lunch at their picnic tables outside of the property. They have free in and out privileges. Their cafe serves burgers, wraps, and salads but I like bringing my own sandwiches, fruit, and drinks. The pool, lazy river, and slide are fun for kids - especially in the heat of summertime. As a parent, I would love if SHARC offered more umbrellas in their lawn space as it is hot and the few umbrellas they do offer are scarce commodities. In sum, SHARC is a great place to cool down. It is the only pool open to the general public at the resort so it's the only game in town. It is expensive, but you can avoid the admission fees if you rent a house with free passes.

Value for money - not so much, but it's convenient and the food is decent. Beer was good. Lots of options for picky eaters.

Poor customer service. Rude people staffing the front counter. Inconsistent enforcement of policies, and overall, waste of time.

Here on a family vacation for the holidays, there is no snow this year, so having this indoor pool to pass the time was great. We were the first in for the weekday rec swim time (2p-530p) and found into be clean and warm. The dreaded indoor chlorine smell wasn't bad either. As a bystander, there were ample loungers and benches around the pool to find a spot. The volley net and basketball hoop were up. A fun swirling whirlpool section was popular. The lap pool remained open for open swim, or to distance from the busy play and heavy splash areas once it got busier. The outdoor hot tub was running and steaming for those who wanted to be outside. A small slide for 48" and shorter was also a hot spot. Life jackets were available for free use, and lifeguards were actively patrolling the pools. Rec center also has meeting rooms, living room, café, and full locker rooms. Not to shabby!

And the Sunriver homeowners association is the most corrupt form of governing body on earth. I wouldn't recommend buying a house here because of them they are terrible and have surplus every year and never cut a check back to the homeowner and find random things to spend money on. They want even more money for a new recycling center, which got voted down and now they are making the current recycling center more difficult to use so it gets voted in eventually. Fire everyone who has any power and re do the entire organization it is sickening

The locker rooms are absolutely disgusting by the end of the day. They don't have male cleaners here. That means no one is cleaning the men's locker rooms all day. The classes posted on the doors don't match up to the classes online. They do not turn on the heat in the hallways. You go from the sauna to a freezing cold hallway. Feels like you're gonna get sick. This gym is basically a daycare center mixed with an old people's home. They are always having events and closing the pools. They close early without notice and the hours here are horrible. There are homeless people lurking in the parking lots and come into use the facilities. Things get stolen as well. I cannot wait for there to be real adult fitness club in bend. Go at least ten min early though it fills up. I like the home made granola bars at the desk snacks. Also the lap swim is great. Both 25 and 50 meters. While I consider the ability to travel a great blessing, I have to admit that certain complications…read moretypically ensue from being away from home. One of those challenges can be how to continue your workout routine when on the road. While I don't have specific recommendations for how to alleviate this situation in all cities, I can certainly provide some assistance when it comes to Bend, Oregon. The Athletic Club of Bend offers numerous opportunities for you to get that workout in when you're in town for a visit. Their amenities include 7 indoor tennis courts, an indoor running track, indoor and outdoor pools, a large spa, cardio equipment, weight room, a full basketball court, and 4 racquetball/squash courts. While those amenities don't necessarily make this place unique, there are two characteristics that do set this place apart. First, they openly accept visitors to the club. Many clubs are very closed minded about this, but not so here. Sure, you'll have to pay a guest fee, but it was very reasonable. Second, I found the members here to be genuinely welcoming. I chose to utilize the club for some tennis and I felt immediately accepted by a group of members who have a standing weekly match. After just 2 hours together I felt like a part of the group and left with names and phone numbers for the next time that I visit Bend. Sure, you can come up with an excuse to not workout while in Bend, but that excuse can't be that there's no facilities that you have access to or there are no friendly people here to connect with. And that's...Henry's Take. #bendexcercise #bendtennis #bendgym
