I started getting my brows microbladed over a decade ago by a woman named Han. She was still my go-to person when I tried to text her for an appointment last week. To my surprise, I got a response from Connie of Glow Beauty Waxing, who told me Han was no longer in the state and that she, Connie, would be taking care of all clients in the meantime. She assured me that she'd been working with Han for over ten years, and that yes, she could see me that very afternoon. Han is apparently in Hawaii now, unless of course Connie has Talented Mr. Ripleyed her and taken her phone number and client list. I suspect this is not the case, as Connie is very sweet. She is also an excellent esthetician, and I will be going to her from now on for all my eyebrow needs. I met her in her little room inside Cherie Nail at the Koreatown Galleria, next to the food court. It was a neat, functional space, with a single bed for customers to lie down and entrust her with their faces. It had been over a year since my last microblading appointment, and the pigment had definitely faded. Connie also pointed out that it had turned slightly red, noting that the fine lines made by microblading smudged and turned reddish on some people's skin. She suggested a different permanent makeup technique that might be better for me, and I told her to go ahead and do as she thought best. She sketched out a shape, which I approved, then waxed my brows and started the process of filling them in. I took a nap and woke up with fresh, handsome eyebrows that had no relation to my DNA. Connie used a technique I'd never heard of called powder spray, and it looks fantastic. Less natural than microblading but like meticulous make-up, better than any pencil job I've ever done. It was also significantly less painful than microblading. It's been a little over a week and I love my new eyebrows. I also love that I don't have to think about them until my touch-up in a month or so, and for another year or whatever after that. My first sit down with Julie involved two steps that took approximately two hours. She spent the first hour making measurements and outlining my eyebrows until they were just what I wanted. Once all the drawing is done, Julie explains exactly what she will do as well as show you all the instruments are sterilely packaged. Before adding a 20-minute numbing lotion, Julie finds the right ink shade by mixing the ink on your forehead to match your natural hair color. Julie takes about 30 minutes to apply the ink through micro-feathering. She has a light touch and is very attentive, making sure I was comfortable and pain free. I did experience soreness a couple days after but Julie said it was normal and she sends you home with instructions and ointment for taking care of your new brows. She also scheduled a follow-up appointment to do any touch-ups, just in case some areas doesn't take the color the first time around.

I figured I would get them micro-feathered to cut off some time in my makeup routine. I couldn't be happier! Julie was very meticulous during the "design" portion of my appt. This took about an hour. Julie actually reshaped my brow to be longer to accentuate my face shape. This whole time I thought the shape I had before was good, but my new shape is way better! Procedure: Julie put on numbing cream on my brow area for 20min. While I waited she had me pick a an ink shade from her array of colors. She mixed 2 colors to get the perfect shade I wanted. The micro-feathering took about an hour. It wasn't painful at all, however, I do have a high pain tolerance. It felt like light vibrations on my skin. Throughout the whole procedure, Julie kept asking if I was okay and that if I felt pain she would reapply the numbing cream in those areas. After the procedure she applies A&D ointment that must stay on for 5 hours. She also provided me with the ointment to apply 1-2 times a day until my brows fully healed. Once finished, I booked an appt 2 weeks later for a retouch. Since all skin is different, the retouch allows for any areas that pushed out the ink. The Retouch: My eyebrows healed well (per Julie). Julie put on the numbing cream for 20min. She wrote down the shade she used last time which was very smart to do, however, I wanted to go a shade darker since my brows got a tad bit lighter during the 2 weeks. Julie proceeded to fill in areas that she felt needed to be filled and again I felt no pain. After,she applied the ointment and I was done until 1-2 years!
