Unfortunately, my experience was extremely unprofessional from the beginning. Just three hours before my scheduled appointment, I was told it was being canceled. There was very little apology or consideration for the fact that I had planned around this appointment and had booked so far in advance. I was then offered Monday between 12-7 PM, so I selected 7 PM because that was the time that worked for me. I was then immediately told, "Actually, can we do 6 instead?" When I questioned why 7 PM was offered if it wasn't actually available, I felt like I was being given the runaround. I was also being encouraged to come in for a different service than the one I originally booked. I booked a cut, style, and blow-dry, but was being offered a cut without the blow-dry. I declined and asked to reschedule for Monday at 3 PM, which was the time I was actually available. Then, unbelievably, 20 minutes before that appointment, it was canceled as well. As a new client, this was incredibly disappointing. I completely understand that emergencies and unexpected circumstances can happen, but canceling on someone multiple times--especially at the last minute after they have already made arrangements and paid a deposit--is not a professional way to treat a new client. Unfortunately, after this experience, I would not feel comfortable booking again. I hope the business can improve its communication, scheduling, and consideration for clients' time. UPDATE: I think the important point you're missing is that this isn't simply about a cancellation--it's about consideration for a client's time. I work in healthcare, in an appointment-based environment, so I understand very well that someone's time has value. Because my schedule is limited, when I book an appointment with you, I have to coordinate it around my work schedule, leave work, account for traffic, and drive to your location. I make those accommodations because I respect the appointment time I've been given and I expect the same consideration in return. You were also aware that I have limited availability because of my work schedule. Despite that, my appointment was canceled at the last minute--not once, but twice, with the second cancellation occurring even closer to the appointment time than I originally stated. What I find particularly frustrating is the expectation that clients provide a substantial deposit, sometimes 80-100% of the service, in order to secure an appointment, while there seems to be very little accountability when the stylist cancels on the client with extremely short notice. A client's time, gas, work schedule, and preparation are just as valuable as the stylist's. I'm not saying you're never allowed to have an emergency or need to reschedule. I'm saying that when a business operates strictly by appointment and requires a significant deposit to reserve that appointment, the same level of consideration and professionalism should apply in both directions. That is the entirety of my point, and I think it's a very reasonable one.
