A Hidden Gem in Midlothian!…read more We discovered a new place to enjoy with family and friends at The Porch Pour. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. Once you step inside, you're greeted by a beautiful, upscale dining area with a separate bar that gives the restaurant a unique atmosphere. We were celebrating our mother's birthday, and the staff made it extra special with a birthday card. Such a thoughtful touch! Our waiter, Ian, was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and provided excellent service. The food is fresh and farm-to-table, and I tried the Truffle Hog Fries--don't let the name scare you! They were absolutely delicious! Who knew such a gem was tucked away in Midlothian? Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, meeting friends, or looking for a romantic date-night spot, The Porch Pour is worth the drive! Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service. We'll be back!

It was OK. We went here last weekend. I'd never heard of it…read morebefore, but my wife had a nice time here a month ago having brunch with a friend. This place seems more style over substance, for me. It's a beautiful old house, very out of place here in Texas. It reminded me of the houses I grew up in back in New England. It has been wonderfully converted into a restaurant. The server was great, the owner talked to us, checked in. The food, I think, is lacking. Especially for the price. We each had a mixed drink. Mine was, ok. I had the Summer Suitor which is an odd mix of bourbon and sparkling wine. I was a little weird to me - quite sour, not the best mix. For dinner I had their special - a steak frites. Plenty of shoestring fries. But, my steak was raw. I think I asked for it medium or medium rare. This was the first time in my life I had to ask for a steak to be reheated. I think they just left it back under the warming lamps for 5 minutes which helped little. For the prices and the stories we heard about where their meat comes from and the pride they take in their food, I wasn't expecting this. The sides were ok but not great. The truffle mac and cheese - all I can say is what I mainly tasted was the wax-coated paper container those bread crumbs came from. It's so odd. I was excited to truffle mac and cheese but it did not do it for me. Again, for the price, I've had better. The Brussel sprouts were ok but undercooked for my liking. The asian inspired sauce they come in is excellent. My wife had their ahi tuna special and raved about the romesco sauce on top, which we've never seen before on tuna but she liked it a lot. The owner told us about the people that owned the block and moved this building and other houses to this location. All I could think of is that must be why it's so expensive. Rent must be killer! I know this sounds like a negative review. It's just my honest experience. Don't know if we'll go back.

Arrived about 8:45am as I was out running my last couple of chores for the day and passed by a building that is usually dark and the parking lot empty. So I went in to see what was going on? There was a couple of folks in line ahead of me, so I perused the chalk board menu while waiting. They had some elote, lots of fresh fruit items (cocktails, a few things I didn't recognize and can't recall how to spell and some fruit and yogurt type things), chips, and a crazy collection of various items. The board said the menu was a "Soft Opening" menu. So what they end up having as their regular items should be expanded I'm sure. Took about 7-8 minutes to get a "fresca-n-crema" and a fruit cocktail (I selected strawberries and oranges). Nicely presented items, all cut fresh in front of you. They also had some Mexican Coca-Cola and other Mexican drinks. The Coca-Cola was $2.75, so I passed. I like Mexican Coca-Cola but that seemed a little high. If they keep it clean and keep serving fresh items at fair prices, I think they will do fine. Midlothian can use such a place and I think the location is good for them. I'll show up again, although it might be a month or more, since word is now out! Edit/Update: On Sunday I happened to be at Kroger. Mexican Coca-Cola was $1/bottle.

Hidden gem alert!…read more The Dessert Bar in Midlothian is absolutely worth the hunt, even with the construction mess making it harder to get to right now. Once you find it, though, you'll be glad you did. This spot combines two of my favorite things: decadent desserts + a legit full bar. Whoever came up with this concept deserves a medal. What I had: Raspberry Almond Cake - 5/5. Moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. The almond balanced the raspberry perfectly, and the slice was massive. Sharing is optional, but I didn't. ;) Chocolate Chip Cookie - 5/5. Giant, warm, and delicious. It had that perfect chewy-meets-crispy texture, and thankfully wasn't dry (a common downfall for oversized cookies). Old Fashioned - 5/5. Honestly, one of the best I've had anywhere. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and strong. I wasn't expecting cocktail game this good at a dessert spot; pleasantly surprised! They've only been open about three months, and I really hope more people discover them because this concept is so good. A cute, cozy vibe, amazing desserts, and strong cocktails? Yes, please. Do yourself a favor: find this place.
