My girlfriend and I went there to have a good dinner in order to celebrate. Read previous reviews and decided to give this place a try and man were we disappointed. The chicken fried rice was basically steamed rice with some steamed veggies and really bland. There was nothin fried about that rice. Ordered Cantonese Chowmien and it came out looking slimy and the texture was squishy and made me want to gag as I tried to eat it. Ordered dry garlic ribs, no taste at all, plain and undercooked. Ordered the Curry Chicken and that was the only dish that had some taste but the curry was watery and the chicken with horrible texture again. Spent around $100 and didn't eat one dish due to them being so unappetizing. Would not recommend to anyone, unless you enjoy plain, tasteless food. This restaurant was recomended. I've been here since 5:10pm. It is now 5:40pm. I've yet to see my order or even tea. I thought it was a long wait at the door, but this beats it. The tea & hot and sour soup arrived. The food was dropped without a word. It is not busy in here. The hot and sour soup was not hot enough, either in terms of temperature or spice. And there is no chili sauce on the table. The soup was finished 10 minutes ago. I'm drinking tepid green tea awaiting the dish I ordered. I'm curious to see if they remember the chopsticks I requested. And she remembered!! The tofu and mixed greens in black bean sauce is quite tasty. The tofu is too soft for me but the flavour is there. The greens are nice and crisp. Temperature wise, the dish is only warm. There is no steam. When I go to a Chinese restaurant I want a Chinese experience. Ceramic spoon for soup, a bottle of soy sauce on the table rather than some take out soy sauce plastic packets. At least 2 hot sauces in glass or ceramic on the table. I asked for hot chili oil and apparently it is made in-house and is delicious. Too bad it was served in a Styrofoam take out container. All in all I'm not sure I'll return. There is a family who arrived 15 minutes after I was seated and they received thier table full of food long before I recieved my 2 dishes. read more

Went inside to order food, staff made me and my bf repeat multiple times what we wanted to order. After ordering we were asked to give a cell number and that we'd be called in 15 minutes when our food is done. It is now half hour later so my bf went inside to see what was going on. Here the order was sitting on the counter with multiple other ones no call was received what so ever. Once we got the food asked for chicken chow main and it was nowhere close to being chicken chow main. Something with crackers and a bunch of vegetables. 10/10 would no recommend. The cook that they have now is super great cook. The food was top of the line. I have been looking for a restaurant in the Lloyd area where the food is not to expensive but really good eating. Shangri-La is it. There is no loud music playing, no TV hanging from the wall so no sports which is so nice for women. I can't wait to take my son to this restaurant, I am sure he will agree with me that the atmosphere is lightful, the place is clean, and the food is excellent. read more

The best Chinese in Lloyd for easily the last 15-20 years. This has been the go to place for many in the city and the reasons are plenty. First off, this is and always has been a Mom and Pop place, from the start until now it's been Mike (Husband) in the back cooking and May (Wife) in the front working the cash register, seating customers and bringing/taking orders to customers. The food has always been consistent with the food coming out fresh, hot and delicious. The Chinese options have generous portions and everything is fresh and flavourful. The veggies are always crunchy and the meat tender and seasoned very well. It says something for Chinese food when you're not bogged down from the salt, not feeling MSGd and you can actually taste the different components and ingredients of the dish. Mike and May were, from the stories I've heard, nearly forcibly removed from the old venue in the motel and have moved next door. The area isn't the nicest but once you step inside the two of them have made a lot of effort to make this place warm and welcome.
