We hired David Messner with 1 Stop General Contracting to remodel our basement as well as a few…read moreother things in our home in December of 2022. We had some issues with him leaving some things un-done and our flooring and painting contractors having to finish these items for us. During the remodel we had him and his team replace an original 20 year old slider in the basement with a new one. By March we started having issues with water coming in through the top of the slider every time it rained. He did send one of his guys out to fix it and he said the flashing was not done correctly and he put a bunch of caulking in above the door. This was a temporary bandaid. For the next month and a half the problem got worse and worse with water going from dripping in to gushing in. We reached out several times to have him correct the issue since it had never leaked with the old slider and either received an argumentative reply that is was not his fault and must be our deck or a window or no response at all. He showed up today un-announced entering into our back yard and deck pulling on the siding prior to knocking on our door. He then proceeded to pull the siding off in anger while telling us that the leak was from the deck being built onto the siding. (Side note, we have had several other contractors and a home inspector come out and ensure that our deck was NOT built incorrectly and is indeed up to code. A call to the city inspector proved this as well.) He proceeded to call us Cheap Mother F*ers for "trying to go cheap on everything", cuss us out and storm off. We paid 1 Stop General Contracting $45,000 for a basement reno, a hall bath reno, and cutting out part of a wall in our kitchen. And that was WITHOUT having them do our flooring or painting as we already had other companies lined up for that. We currently have a contractor here fixing David's mistake as the flashing did not adhere correctly and he did not put ANY framing around the slider leaving an inch gap for water to enter in through. He put nails into NOTHING! We have documented all of these items and will be taking this further.

We told SRS and that's when they introduced us to James Hardie Board. We were able to pick out beautiful baked in colors that coordinated and blended everything together, especially with our unique roof. It turned out incredible. It gave us that 'New Home Buyer' feeling that we had back in '86. Our difference stands out in the neighborhood now as quality and appeal. We get lots of compliments from people passing by. Be Cautious: Mother/Daughter Widow/Single, Siding replacement & Storm damage from Tree Fall…read more Left construction debris & nails in yard & driveway despite multiple requests to magnet sweep & clean their work area. 12ft pallets also left in the driveway. Poor communication & coordination between Evan's & skilled labor on site. Site supervisor was MIA for start of work. Homeowner had to modify work schedule to answer questions from skilled labor while Evan's site supervisor wasn't available & relay messages & site issues to Evan's.. Skilled laborers consistently expressed concern about materials not being available for tasks & left job unfinished. Work completed by site supervisor who didn't install per manufacturer's instructions & Evan's would not correct. They didn't abide by the contract which included & was quoted for replacement of broken wood from tree falling on roof in storm. Evan's repaired broken & splintered wood by either splicing or leaving broken pieces in place & nailing to 2x4s underneath. Structural, but not what was agreed upon in writing. Despite homeowner real-time feedback & suggestions daily during installation based on knowledge gained at an installation workshop hosted by the siding manufacturer AND the manufacturer corroborating the homeowner's feedback post installation after being invited to inspect by Evan's, Evan's STILL didn't correct all installation issues. They only repaired the most extreme issues, but the majority were left in place. They stated they'd been doing this for 30 years implying there was no way there was an issue & despite their policy stating to just call if there is an issue. If the siding manufacturer tells you there's an issue, I think it's an issue! Opinion: Obviously issues are not their concern from the way this job was mishandled & my concerns were disregarded from day one. Evan's removed back doorstep & didn't replace it. Original step still laying in the middle of the yard. Disconnected A/C unit without notice & left for the day, multiple instances. Rewired air conditioning unit incorrectly, throwing/sparking breakers. Broke internet fiber, required AT&T to repair. Despite all the above, payment was cashed within hours of receipt. Opinion: Apparently someone in the company prioritizes and has availability for what they need despite their claims to be customer-focused.

Brandon Schlotz was our assigned project manager The trees were brown and dying by fall of 2021. We contacted Brandon who was very responsive. We were asked to "wait for the trees to come out of winter" He assured me that they would honor the guarantee no matter how long it took for the trees to recover. Spring came and the trees never recovered. Brandon was out here and when he began to dig under a couple of the trees he pulled out rope, and burlap. Shaking his head, he told us that he would be in touch with next steps. We also called a professional arborist to come take a look at the trees to be sure we were doing everything in our power to take good care of the trees. We were told we had done everything right. In November of 2022 Heritage says they sent someone out here to do a "deep seed fertilization" which did nothing to improve the trees. We contacted Brandon again and in Feb of 2023 he agreed that the trees needed to be replaced. We were told to wait until spring for new trees to be in from Home Nursery. In March of 2023 Brandon contacted us to say trees were in but that he would suggest we go with a different variety called Excelsa - we agreed. After researching ourselves we asked to purchase an 8th tree since this variety does not grow as wide as our original Green Giants. Brandon said he would be onsite for this planting since he said, "I should have watched more closely the first time." On April 5, 2023 Heritage came out and removed the 7 dead trees. Brandon suggested we buy a 9th tree to be sure we filled the space properly, so we did. The crew planted 9 Excelsa. We were charged an additional $610 for the 8th and 9th trees. THIS invoice was paid on 5/21/23 and it NOW states "Plant comes with one replacement within one year after the installation date". Within 2 months the trees began to look very bad. We attempted to contact Brandon, left messages for him and got no response. We sent numerous emails to Brandon and copied the company general email address as well Mike Estund. We sent pictures of the trees with no response. We were beyond frustrated and rather than asking them to replace the trees, we requested a FULL REFUND and for them to come out and remove the trees. Finally on 7/13/23 we spoke with Mike Estund who was definitely not interested in helping us. He was terribly rude even saying "How the hell did you kill 16 of my trees?!" He refused a refund by saying the guarantee was for ONE TIME ONLY. He also told us that he couldn't just remove the trees and leave empty holes because that would be a liability for his company. The conversation ended with Mike saying he would send us an email stating what he agreed to do and wanted it in writing that we wanted the trees removed and that we would take responsibility for the empty holes. That email from him never came and all further emails from us to them have gone unanswered. The now 8 dead trees (one is still hanging on) are still sitting standing and we are out $3060.00
