Shakey's an American brand that flourishes in the Philippines with over 160 branches, while it slowly disappears in its home base in California. Originally operated by San Miguel Corp. in 1975 primarily to promote their draft beers, but eventually sold the franchise in 1987. After more than 40 years it remains a strong player in the casual dining scene with its aggressive plans for expansion.
We dined here on the first day they opened. The staff outnumbered the guests in the restaurant despite all tables being occupied. It was a hectic time. In summary, we had their apologetic soup for a late meal, well past the 15 minute serving time.
After dining a couple of more times, it really is nothing more than an upgrade from a self-service fast food joint with some of the staff giving their best with rest well just a-okay.
Their fried chicken is just the right amount of crisp and meaty goodness. It's hot enough to eat right out of the kitchen and not to dry. The batter has the right amount of thickness and crunch without masking the chickens taste.
The pizzas I've tried here are nothing special. Go for the chicken. read more
