Crushed red pepper & Spicy Honey
Cristito C.

We're staying around the corner and while riding in a Grab, I happened to see a sign that said - - Brick Oven Pizza. After searching online for a pizza parlor in the neighborhood, I found Gino's Brick Oven Pizza. Being from Connecticut, where there are a lot of brick oven pizza joints, we had to try it. A couple of weeks passed & off we went. It's not a large restaurant off a side street; probably about 40 or seats or so. The menu is not the largest, but it looked pretty good. We settled for Margherita with Fresh Mozzarella Pizza, Stuffed Chicken w/pasta, an order of bread, and a pitcher of freshly squeezed calamansi juice. Pizza: surprisingly, it's good. Definitely brick oven cooked because of the way it was toasted on the bottom - - there was a slightly charred taste . . . Nice!!! Also the outside of the crust was nice and soft on the inside. Fresh mozzarella was a treat. We not huge on basil, but their amount was perfect!!! Good pie!!! Stuff Chicken w/Pasta: the pasta was cooked perfectly and had some oil & cheese on it. The chicken was stuffed with sausage and had a cream sauce over it. The crust on the chicken was crisp and delicious. The sausage was a tad salty - - but we in the Philippines. All in all, it was good - - not as good as the pizza, though. Tip of the Day #1: get a pitcher of Calamansi Juice . . . It's sweet & sour . . . PERFECT!!! Tip of the Day #2: they have this spicy honey on the table that they suggest you sprinkle on the pizza. No thanks, but order some bread (15 or 20 pesos) & dunk this bread in some spicy honey - - winner!!! They sell the spicy honey for about 350 pesos. Enjoy.

We started with burrata and house salad. With nuts and Parmesan cheese Love the salted egg pasta. Unique flavor but it works :) serving might be a bit small but you could always order extra SMEGG pizza is a brick oven pizza with shiitake mushrooms and egg. It's great with their signature spicy honey. I love this even with just plain bread :)

This has got to be my favorite pizza place for the year, and well maybe 2014 too! They've got awesome pizzas, pastas and salads that I can never get enough of. Note that you can call the branch you want to order from so that if you want to take out some food, you just have to pick it up! I love ALL their pizzas, but if you ask me what my favorites are it would include the following... Prosciutto, Bianca Verde, and their BOMB Pizza (Balsamic Onions, Mozzarella, Mushrooms and blue cheese).. For their salads and appetizers, I absolutely love their Burrata Caprese (MUST TRY, YOU CANNOT HAVE A MEAL AT GINO'S AND NOT ORDER THIS), and their very VERY delicious Ricotta with Fried Bread! My day is always a whole lot brighter and better whenever I decide to have a meal here.. especially with family :)

Burrata, their must-try starter!

This cosy restaurant is a hype in Salcedo Village, Makati. It's always full and the chances of entering the waiting list are very high. Sounds boring, right? Just give it a chance. I guarantee the food really worths every second in line. Well, I'm a pizza-lover. That means I've been searching for the best pizza in town since I moved to Manila, 5 months ago. Gino's one is definitelly the best I've found. As the restaurant's name suggests, the pizza is cooked in a brick oven, what gives it a soft and crispy texture. Forget about those Pizza Hut style. Pizza here sounds really artisanal. Every ingredient is carefully chosen and everything is very fresh. I highly recommend the Prosciutto Pizza, the Bianca Verde and the Pesto Mushroom. Don't forget to try their spicy honey to boost your pizza. It has a really particular taste and you'll only find it there at Gino's. One thing I observe whenever I go there is the filipino tradition to order one pizza and one pasta to share among all the group. I must confess I appreciate this filipino feeling of share! When I go there with my husband, we always order the prosciutto pizza together with a Bolognese or a Pesto pasta. We've also tried the Lemon Mushroom fettucine and the Carbonara pasta. Both were creamy and tasty. I suggest starting your meal with the Burrata, their best-seller. It's served with pieces of freshly baked bread. As I love greens, I always order it with a House Salad (mixed greens with balsamic dressing) or a Summer Salad (greens, prosciutto, dalandan dressing). They're so fresh and go perfectly with the burrata. To drink, get a pitcher of Calamansi Juice and then you'll have a true filipino-italian gastronomic experience. I must say the service is also very good. The staff is always smiling and they work to make you feel comfortable. To avoid waiting, it's better to have a reservation before trying Gino's on peak hours. What? Chocolate Chicharon? Come off it!

Yo so what the heck is a burrata? Everyone's raving and loving about this pillowy, doughy thing when I don't even know what it is. When I finally tried their burrata summer salad (with freshly squeezed dalandan! oh by gods is that heavenly!) I knew I was in love. Apparently, a burrata is a kind of cheese that's similar to mozarella in taste and texture, but so much more. It adds another dimension to a simple salad-- and you can even eat in on its own! The salad is pricey, at 400++ but well worth your money, if you want to go for something simple and refreshingly delicious, especially in this country's weather. You never go wrong with Gino's pizzas. My absolute favorites are the buffalo chicken (don't forget to slather on their free chili honey) and the smegg (what, an egg on the pizza? GET OUT). The only thing I don't like about their pizzas are that the centers are consistently soggy (an ailment of most brick oven pizzas, I suppose). As for the pizza, my salted egg loving self will heartily recommend trying their salted egg pasta! It's like a carbonara only-- you guessed it right-- with salted egg yolks as the main ingredient. I love it so much that I've already recreated it in my kitchen several times, whenever I get a craving for Gino's. ;) And for the dessert? DEAR LORD, I don't even know what Gino's makers were thinking of when they crafted a CHOCOLATE COVERED CHICHARON (read: deep fried pork rind) but it's a heavenly minute on your lips (and a lifetime on your hips). Were they high? Were they stoned? Probably yes but it's just about the most GENIUS thing I've eaten from that. Tip though, you probably shouldn't finish one whole serving unless you want to get lowered into an early grave...

One of THE best Italian places in Manila! Their salted egg pasta was delicious. For all the dessert lovers, their Nutella Soup is a MUST TRY! It's served in a bread bowl (check out the picture.) My overall experience at Gino's was definitely a carb overload but it was SO worth it #NoRegrets!

Wow! Great service... these guys were fun and the service was quick. All I have to say is take a look at the dessert menu. Nutella soup in a bread bowl. The women next to us didn't leave even a morsel of their dessert left.

Burrata

Burrata, burrata, burrata! I can't stop thinking about the Burrata (buffalo cheese) I ate in Gino's. I've been looking for an affordable Italian restaurant - this place is just perfect. The set up is very casual. The food here is memorable! It's usually packed at night so I suggest to go here earlier than 7pm. I remember the pizzas more than the pastas so I'll suggest what pizza flavors to order. First order of business, definitely get a plate of Burrata. And then, get the SMEGG pizza. It has homemade sausage, mushroom, eggs, gouda, and cream. They're very generous with their toppings so watch out, they might be spilling over you. That pizza is something else. For a second pizza, you can get Bianca Verde (olive oil, garlic, kesong puti, ricotta, parmesan, basil, arugula). Good news, you can even take out a pizza if you're not full yet! You should definitely come back to Gino's for another night out!

Not bad pizza at all. I would only hope for a possible thin crust base option. However it was a delightful pizza none the less.

I'll leave another review when order comes. Updated: it's no longer going by the same name, but I did order the one pasta dish they had with the truffles, and it was delicious as well as two chocolate croissants that were amazing. It was also one of the best lattes I've had in the city. It's not easy finding good food in Manila unless you're at a five-star hotel. So this place is not bad for breakfast croissants and may be a quick bite to get you out of the fast food haven that is vanilla.

Farfalla is the in-house restaurant of the Hotel Durban, a small but classy budget hostel in Makati's tourist zone. And while most of the time the terms "budget hostel" and "in-house restaurant" should be your cue to run far, FAR away from the joint, this is not the case with Farfalla. Farfalla prides itself with making their own pasta and baking their own bread, and it shows in their dishes. I've eaten here a couple of times (I love staycationing in Hotel Durban), and it has never disappointed. The pastas are on point, the bread is lovely, and everything is reasonably priced. But for me, the best feature of Farfalla is the outdoor seating. Overlooking Durban st, which connects the more chaotic P Burgos street and Makati Avenue, you will inadvertently be witness to the fascinating subculture only found in Makati's tourist belt, while being shielded from it. It's like being protected by a force field while you watch foreigners from every persuasion, "massage therapists", hawkers, and partygoers walk, scream, shout, argue, run, fight, and party in front of you. It's entertaining! Something should be said about eating here on a Sunday morning. There you are, eating your breakfast (which is excellent, by the way), while the entire street is quiet and peaceful. Every now and then, you find a couple of tourists/foreigners/locals dragging themselves back to their hotels/homes. Again, very entertaining.

Despite the name of the place, they are not exclusively serving French food. They have pasta, steaks, and seafood. If anything, Chateau 1771 is a modern European restaurant serving favorite French, Italian, and Swiss food. When I first visited the place years ago, I was actually anxious about that moment when the waiter would hand me the check. European dining in the Philippines has always been equated with expensive fine-dining. But to my astonishment, the price was actually reasonable. I mean, it's not affordable and one would be crazy or filthy rich to eat in this kind of place every day. But for special occasions, I would recommend this place. My most recent visit was during my wife's birthday. It was a table for two and we had a late lunch. After a few moments of browsing through the menu, she asked for Croquette Salad, while I went for Butter-baked Oysters. For main, she had Vanilla Brick Spring Chicken, or grilled chicken served with vanilla bean dots. I ordered the Potence, the house specialty. It's basically steak where the meat is served hanging from a potence, or metal frame, and then set alight (by the waiter) with brandy. Their Pomelo Fruit Juice is a must try. I would recommend having a reservation when dining at Chateau 1771. While the place typically fills up during dinner, I find it perfect for a late afternoon hangout. The ambience can truly transport you somewhere in Europe.

Angel's Pizza Pasta Combo is a no non-sense pizza joint that let's you have your pie and calzone at a wallet friendly price. They have just about every pizza combination available from a vegetable number to an all-meat masterpiece, and to a mix of both--just choose from their (super) extensive menu. But what I love about Angel's is not their toppings but their option to go from normal crust to thin, or even to a double. Now the Angel's Double is worth mentioning simply because of its gargantuan appeal--double the crust and double the toppings, which makes for a ridiculously filling meal for less than P700. The flavors available for the Double include BBQ, Cheesy Melt, and Cheesy Burger. The main draw here is that their pizzas are downright dirt cheap. Just 599 pesos for a 14 inch pizza? Where else are you going to find that? They also have buckets of fried chicken, for those who need more than pizza.
