Picture yourself craving for a pizza (I bet you won't have a hard time doing that). But you want a good, solid pizza, not the crappy stuff that some deluded people pass off as pizza (The heathens). BUT, you can't afford a good, solid pizza, not with what you have in your wallet at that moment. Now ordinarily this would be a good time to pull yourself by the bootstraps and tell yourself you can't have it all. Today is not that day. If you're anywhere near Kapitolyo, you can always head on to Pomodoro Pizza and get your pizza and pasta fix. If you were expecting a proper resto with airconditioning and ambiance, sorry to disappoint but you won't find that here. However, if you came looking for great tasting pizza, you've come to the right place. Pomodoro has a wide selection of pizza and pasta to make the budding foodie in you shed tears of joy. And these guys do make an effort to represent. The pizza crust is homemade, not bought off a grocery, and there's a wonderful crunch when you bite down on it. The pizzas taste fresh and they taste great. The pasta dishes are something else as well. The first time I've eaten here, I had a smoked fish pasta, and it slayed me. The next time I dropped by, I had an honest-to-goodness carbonara, not the white-sauce abomination that's too popular in this city. I'm talking about eggs cracked on piping hot pasta, topped with smoked bacon. Heavenly. The best part? It's relatively inexpensive. Pizzas start at P139 for a 10 incher and P169 for a 12 incher. Pastas range from P99 to P150. WIN.

There are a lot of good restaurants in Manila, so it must be the promise of something really special if you're going to get me to commute all the way to Kapitolyo, Pasig. And boy, did my girlfriend hype this place up. She's never been herself, but she read about it online, and was dying to try it out. Since tonight was our 15th monthsary, I couldn't say no. Thank the gods it was a holiday, so the traffic wasn't bad, and we got there quite easily. Let me tell you about the food though. Remember how my girlfriend hyped this up? She wasn't wrong to do so. Actually, no, that's an understatement. The food is worth all the hassle of commuting from Manila to Kapitolyo. This tiny hole in the wall offered 10 or 12 inch pizzas that didn't need an over-abundance of meat to make you think what you're eating is worth having. We had their margherita pizza -- it was just their home-made tomato sauce, cheese, and sun-dried tomato slices on a crispy crust, and it was absolute heaven. Their pastas didn't disappoint either. Now, about the price. We had one 12" pizza, one order of seafood marinara, one order of carbonara, and one pitcher of home-brewed iced tea. All for Php500.xx. I can eat here every single day.

Our server was quite honest emto inform me that they made a mistake in serving us the regular size of their Beetroot Salad & immediately replaced it with the family size or to share size. I ordered their 27-inch Quattro Staggioni Pizza; Mussels, of course the large size; Large Calamari; & 2 slices of their Pork Chop dish. The soup of the Mussels was extremely salty & the Manager replaced it with a fresh new serving. It was still salty, but I just accepted it. Kudos to their honesty & service. Then last Sunday, April 18, I ordered the same huge pizza, a to-share or family-size Pomelo Shrimp Salad; & a Large Lasagna. I noticed that the Salad didn't look like it's the large size, but I didn't put much thought to it so as not to ruin the atmosphere, since we were having a nice, pleasant birthday dinner for my niece who just had her second baby girl in April 12. I ended up rationing the salad to just have enough for each one for a family of 5! I thought that's pathetic. As you see, I am not frugal when I buy dinner. I always order for 8 but we're only actually 4 to 5, at the most. With this, I'm taking my family instead to another great Italian Restaurant. There are many around here in the Pasig area and we're just 5 minutes away from BGC. There's A Mano Restaurant, which is excellent ; & another Italian Restaurant which serves their dishes like it's home-cooked! Moving on & headed forward ...

I'll leave another review when order comes. Updated: it's no longer going by the same name, but I did order the one pasta dish they had with the truffles, and it was delicious as well as two chocolate croissants that were amazing. It was also one of the best lattes I've had in the city. It's not easy finding good food in Manila unless you're at a five-star hotel. So this place is not bad for breakfast croissants and may be a quick bite to get you out of the fast food haven that is vanilla.

Farfalla is the in-house restaurant of the Hotel Durban, a small but classy budget hostel in Makati's tourist zone. And while most of the time the terms "budget hostel" and "in-house restaurant" should be your cue to run far, FAR away from the joint, this is not the case with Farfalla. Farfalla prides itself with making their own pasta and baking their own bread, and it shows in their dishes. I've eaten here a couple of times (I love staycationing in Hotel Durban), and it has never disappointed. The pastas are on point, the bread is lovely, and everything is reasonably priced. But for me, the best feature of Farfalla is the outdoor seating. Overlooking Durban st, which connects the more chaotic P Burgos street and Makati Avenue, you will inadvertently be witness to the fascinating subculture only found in Makati's tourist belt, while being shielded from it. It's like being protected by a force field while you watch foreigners from every persuasion, "massage therapists", hawkers, and partygoers walk, scream, shout, argue, run, fight, and party in front of you. It's entertaining! Something should be said about eating here on a Sunday morning. There you are, eating your breakfast (which is excellent, by the way), while the entire street is quiet and peaceful. Every now and then, you find a couple of tourists/foreigners/locals dragging themselves back to their hotels/homes. Again, very entertaining.

Luckily it was just walking distance from where me and my family were staying in BGC. I remember during quarantine in 2021, my friend sent me the roasted chicken and since then I couldn't get over the juiciness and flavors of it. So I had to order it for myself this time. The veggies that come along with it and the sauce is so flavorful. Kind of wish the chicken was bigger because it's just that good! The pizza was okay not the best I've had but it was a nice snack to try. I didn't get to try the pasta because I was just really into my chicken. I'd only recommend this place if you want to try it. It's quite pricey for the portions but it is an authentic Italian restaurant out here in the Philippines. The interior is quite nice and they do have outdoor seating. However the time we came it was excruciatingly humid. So we dined inside. Service was good. The staffs were quite attentive and can speak English to help those who don't speak Tagalog. I see why my friends would rave about the chicken though. I do recommend that as something to try.
