Unfortunately we had to attend a funeral in Chapel Hill, NC., Being from MD and VA we had no idea where we could meet other family and friends scattered around Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Sanford,and Graham NC. Fortunately someone told us about a new place called Archibald's Tavern. WHAT A FIND. Not only was it the perfect place for 18 of us to meet, but we were treated like family and made to feel right at home. A big plus was the food. Everyone in the party agreed that their food was excellent. I personally had the fish and chips and can honestly say it was as good - if not better - than what I had in England. Some Mormon friends in the party said they would definitely stop by for food after church, and we all wished we had a local tavern this nice in our home towns. We stopped in for a quick bite with another couple on a recent Friday night. We were seated quickly. The service was very good and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The sweet potato fries were delicious. We all enjoyed our hot sandwiches and the prices couldn't be beat. The restaurant and restroom were very clean. We will definitely go back again. read more

We have tried this 4 or 5 times..hoping it will get better. Food is not good.(fries were greasy and cold) Service is not good. (the waitress sat down with us and started telling us her personal problems) The atmosphere is not good. (Saturday night at 10 pm the overhead lights were on way too bright..felt like an interogation room, not a bar) And then there are the drunken smokers outside harassing you as you pass by. So sad. The 5 guys with bad taste in music (and the one employee that is always with them) I hope can pay the bills. On a football Saturdays and Sundays the juke box was programmed by the group while games were on all monitors. This is NOT a sports bar as advertised. Food has gone down hill since new owners have taken over. Don't bother with a burger....after 3 tries I stopped ordering. Cheap meat and over cooked. We were the only ones at a booth tonight. The food is terrible, I mean to tell you that it tasted like food from a third world country. I had a burger that tasted like the meat was sitting out for several days, maybe even a week. The salad that went with it was horrible, brown lettuce and the whole nine. The lady that got our food for us was very rude and trashy. My wife got really sick after eating her burger(vomiting violently). It took me hours to recover from the stomach ache after I ate there. Please do not go to this establishment. Let it go out of business and let someone that knows how to run a bar/restaurant take it over. I give this place a zero. McDonalds is like a five star steakhouse compared to that dump. It is definitely worth driving a few more miles to Cary for some real food. Also the keg beer was flat like a keg they bought from some college kids after a weekend party. I'd like to preface this review by saying that I pride myself on being impeccably polite to all my servers. I realize that is an often difficult and unglamorous job, so I really appreciate those who chose to do it. However, I have never had such a poor dining experience than in my most recent trip to Archibald's Tavern. To say the service was rude would be a gross understatement. My husband and I arrived with a couple of our friends to a mostly empty restaurant on a Saturday night. After seating ourselves, our waitress showed up to take our order. We were not ready to order and she told us she'd give us a couple of minutes. Everything seemed to be proceeding like any typical evening would. While ordering, my husband, ever the indecisive man, took a while to order. In his typical joking way, he asked about a couple of dishes and then ordered the wings. He also took a minute or two to pick his sauce. During their interaction, the waitress responded to him with several clever, if somewhat inappropriate quips. These included telling us "I just got fake fired," "the soup of the day is chili, which is stupid because it's not soup," and "you're fine, I just really need a cigarette." Not seeming phased by his humor, I complimented her saying, she handled him very well. The rest of us ordered and the evening continued. My friend ordered the fish and chips, only to be notified that they were out of fish. She returned to the table and asked him what he would like instead, during which she said shit. Not a big deal, but certainly not professional. As we got our food, we began eating and talking, not noticing anything was wrong with our server. My friend's burger was undercooked and he politely asked to have it cooked longer. She said no problem. Then, all of a sudden a manager came to our table and asked us if we have a problem with our server. Surprised, we all said no. She said that she had two members of the wait staff tell her we were being extremely rude. Then she proceeded to tell us that she would box up our friend's recooked burger and that she would handle our checks so that we could leave. I was completely taken aback by the exchange and asked what happened to make it so that we had to leave. She told us that we would not be rude to her staff in her restaurant and would have to leave. She was extremely rude and short. She would not tell us what specifically had happened, or would she answer any of our questions. We were basically pushed out of the restaurant. I am totally appalled at the poor management of this restaurant. The manager and server made an issue out of something that no one in my party even realized was a problem. They did not try to problem solve or work the issue out and have loss a customer. The atmosphere and food are both OK, but I will not be returning due to the service. read more

Visited on my lunch hour with my husband. The menu was horrible. I should of walked next door to Subway. Terrible food, horrible selection. Beer was limited. Came up from Holly Springs Road (from Lowe's grocery store area) and made a left on Sunset and could not make a left in to the parking lot. Had to go down to a subdivision and make a U-turn. Because its location is close to our house, my husband and his friends have started frequenting Archibald's for their occasional men's football nights and I hadn't heard anything negative, so I thought I'd take my 5 year-old son there for lunch this past Sunday. The staff was friendly upon entering, and we were the only customers except for one single guy sitting in the bar area. But from that point on, it was disappointing. The service was SLOW. It took too long for the waitress to take our order to begin with (and remember, there was no one else in the restaurant!) and then we waited, and waited, and waited...and by that time other folks had come in and sat down and been waited on. Finally, after we saw another couple get their food after sitting down 20 minutes after us, I flagged down the waitress and asked where our food was. Then, another 10 minutes and then they bring out my son's grilled cheese sandwich and said my order (club sandwich) would be out momentarily. 10 minutes later, she brought my food. You know, if she just would've acknowledged that she screwed up and obviously forgot to put our order in, I would've been forgiving. It was the flippant attitude and lack of concern that made my blood boil. And the food was nothing to write home about--not bad, but not that great, either. All in all I was very dissappointed and will probably never go back, although my husband says he's never had a bad experience there. Go figure. read more

My wife and I love this place and you won't meet nicer people than Carrie and Pat. We go there regularly including every Sunday to watch football, even though we have the NFL package at home. The beer is ice cold and they always ask if we want frosted mugs. The (garlic parson) wings are the best in town, the burgers are great (get the Pat), the pulled pork is good, and the buffalo chicken bites (lotta food), sweet potato fries, chips and the Reuben are all good. read more

My husband and I ate a terrific lunch at the Tavern and enjoyed every bite. The soft pretzel was my favorite and we both enjoyed the chicken salad. The service was fast and the servers were friendly. The next time that we pass through North Carolina we will be sure to go back to Archibald's. Went with my husband bc we had Livingsocial coupon. food was just greasy bar food. Nothing great. they didn't get my order right. server thought he was cool and just took his time doing everything. No rush at all, not really friendly. plus he really didn't bother to ever clear out table even though he passed by several times. I have been eating out for many, many years and worked in the restaurant industry as well for a long time. I tried this tavern as its right next to my house and will never return regardless of how convenient the location. I never expect that every time I eat out I'll have the best meal of my life, but I certainly don't expect a simple order (wings) to become one of the worst meals I've ever had. It didn't help the server got everything about it wrong either. The wings were from the grocery store I think and tasted like plastic, the bleu cheese horrific, the celery inedible. This tavern is relatively new and is still getting the kinks out. They take customer feedback very seriously. I've gone there for drinks and appetizers and also for dinner. It's good pub food and the people there are friendly. I think Archibald's will turn into a great neighborhood tavern. I enjoyed my time there and will be back. read more

They have a nice beer selection and they improved the menu selection. There are daily specials, and the wings are tasty and good size (Saturday's special). A nice, relaxing bar. Enough TVs to watch games and provide live music on the weekends. They hosted a fundraiser last night. It is nice when a business gives back to the community. My wife and I went there on Saturday for lunch. The food was way over cooked and tasted like crap. The bartender complained about having to work. She stated that the old cook quit and that the new cook sucks. I paid $31 for lunch and took two bites and could not eat it. She offered her employee meal discount to make me happy which I refused. After reading some of the reviews, I was hesitant to go here. My friend and I wanted to see the band playing that night, so we decided to be brave and check it out. Since I had read the service was terrible and there were long waits for food, we timed it. We were greeted promptly when we walked in. The server came to our table promptly. Time from order to receiving food was 11 minutes. We ordered wings and a quesadilla, not a full meal. The server was attentive through the night. My friend enjoyed the wings. The two quesadillas I received were average, not a lot of filling, but adequate. I had enough to take one home. When I asked for a to go box, they also put brand new sour cream and salsa containers with it. We arrived about 8pm on a Saturday night and there were not many people there. A few people trickled in and out throughout the evening. We were there until about 11:30pm. I'm not sure about the comments about there being a bunch of drunks and college kid atmosphere here. That is not what we observed. There were a few people that sat at the bar all night, but that is nothing unusual. When we asked to move a table out of the way to make room to dance, the server gladly obliged. I can definitely see this as a local hangout, but there is nothing wrong with that. It's not a place we would go to on a regular basis, as it isn't that close to us. But, if they have another band we like, we would not hesitate to go. They might be able to attract a few more people of they move a couple of tables out of the way for a dance floor when it is a "dance" type of band. read more
