Plus all type of events going on all day from the big Star Wars section, that's handmade movie props they set up a whole area, and turned it into a Star Wars theme section with 501 Legion with all their different costumes, different characters from the movie walking around taking pictures with the kids and acting out scenes. Such a blast for all the kids and adults. That's definitely one of my favorite parts of the whole event! The Other thing that's cool about this event is meeting different actors, that they have featured for this event. The only thing I have to say, though is they need to be a little bit more organized when it comes to having us wait in line to meet one of the popular actors. Waited at least 2 hours then he went on break, and was late coming back. Not cool. Also there is plenty of venders selling all kinds of collectibles from Japanese snacks to collectible toys, purses, Japanese animation, vintage collectibles toys like Star Wars and many more. Plenty of Food venders they had everything from Chinese, Japanese, American, Mexican all types of food, but the food was just ok equivalent to the mall food. So we will definitely be back. We had a blast.

Instead they created their own irreverent, satirical parade in Coconut Grove. It has grown to become a beloved Grove tradition lampooning current events and politics with homemade costumes, signs, and floats. The parade embodies Coconut Grove's bohemian spirit with a wacky and humorous take on the year's news. This was my first year attending the parade and if I could give any advice it would be to come early. Parking in Coconut Grove is difficult on the best of days, never mind when thousands of people come to attend an event in the congested streets. After experiencing frustration trying to get through blocked roads, Lady Luck finally shined on me and I was able to find a metered space a few blocks from the parade. This was the 42nd year of the parade and the theme was This is Fine from the meme of a smiling cartoon dog sitting at a table, coffee mug in hand, as the room goes up in flames. Things are not really fine at all. Some of the hot topics I saw tackled during the parade included Trump, ICE, Alligator Alcatraz, sidewalk delivery robots taking over, pythons invading the Everglades, RFK's anti-vaccine stance, the Epstein files, MAGA lip injections, the kiss cam, Ron DeSantis removing rainbow crosswalks, Miami Labubu's, and the capture of Nicolas Maduro. I actually saw three Maduro's captured and dragged down the street. I ended up watching the parade in front of CocoWalk which was a great spot. The parade goes past The Barnacle and then turns the corner at CocoWalk. The parade typically starts near Commodore Plaza and Main Highway, where it loops through Grand Avenue. The King Strut Mango was longer than I expected but I was entertained throughout. After the parade was over I was easily able to find food and a beverage at one of the many dining spots in the area. An after parade party takes place in the alley next to Chug's and it was packed.

Parking is quite limited so ensure some time to find some or to carpool/ride share. We found street parking but had to walk a few blocks to get inside due to the gates being closed and only triggered to open via cars. NOTE: They do not rent to people anymore unless you're planning on dropping big money/ multiple day…read morerentals. However, they will pretend they do in order to judge how much money they can get. The website makes no mention of these required minimum days or minimum $. I first contacted Koubek Center many months ago to inquire about a 4 hour rental of a classroom multiple months in advance. I didn't hear back from anyone until exactly 1 month later -- someone named Bianca who started the emailing explaining they are "swamped" and responding late to emails. This was fine and I inquired again about the rental. Over a month passed and nothing again. I tried calling but the director, Melissa, was never available and Bianca either doesn't work there anymore or was on vacation, I was told. Finally, after multiple more calls and emails where I'm basically begging to give them money for a service their website claims they offer, I was directed to a man named Antonio who told me he's "about to send an invoice." Yes invoice, not estimate. He never sends it and then ignores my calls for 4 days. Finally I give up and try going in person. Note that the multiple times I visited the Koubek Center -- none of the classrooms were being used. Including this visit. It was barren. I finally meet with Melissa who laments how overworked she is and that's why she's not answering phone calls or responding to emails. She claims she was "just about to tell me" (huh?) and tell me that she is no longer allowed to rent classrooms for only the minimum 4 hours. What? After 2 months of inquiries -- and two other people telling me it's available and even pretending to "send an invoice" to my email -- I'm finally told it's impossible. Which could have easily been done in the first email response. Except the truth is they only made it impossible after seeing a 4 hour rental (for any time -- I was flexible) really wouldn't be profitable for them, so they ignored all follow-up calls and emails. Honestly, if Melissa is so unbelievably swamped and overworked she can't send a single email or respond to a single phone call in 2 months, maybe they either need to hire someone else to this position who manages their time better. Don't bother dealing either this place. This spaces aren't even very nicely kept and the administration clearly uses immature passive tactics to avoid dealing with customers. It's frankly pathetic.
