Just amazing, we are very grateful to the teachers, coaches and staff for the universal education…read morethey bring to our daughters. The preschool and the elementary school facilities are full of technology and high stimuli design. We love that our children have the opportunity to experience a week full of sports, mindfulness, healthy food and languages to enhance their academic experience. The school allows and encourage the parents to actively engage with the student body and school community, celebrating different cultures and ideas. The staff is so welcoming and supportive that I can't say enough of positive things when looking back at our experience as parents and looking at our children each day. We really value all the nurture and love they receive everyday.

The second year, Centner got more permanent teachers but I was not impressed at the pace and level of learning my kids were receiving. I didn't realize how bad it was until I decided to apply to other private schools in Florida. Throughout the application process I realized my daughters were almost a year behind other top schools like American Heritage, Pinecrest, Carrolton and the admissions staff were puzzled because all my kids had good grades (mostly As), but tested poorly. I also had issues during the interview process due to Centner's bad reputation as it's seen as a "controversial" school. Thankfully one school was flexible and gave me time to put them in intensive tutoring for 3 months and was able to get retested and ultimately got accepted. While at Centner, I also learned that some parents and even the owner are not interested in sending their kids to college. There's a huge emphasis on entrepreneurship which basically means they do a "marketplace" 3x a year where kids sell whatever product they chose. I found it a huge waste of time for myself as I had to do all the legwork to prepare for this event. At the end they are supposed to fill out a spreadsheet and calculate net income and I laughed at this requirement because #1 the kids in 3rd grade couldn't even give change at the event (no basic math skills) and #2 the homework always gets sent to the parents (aka parents have to do it). Did my kids learn anything throughout this process? no! But they did have fun with their friends on a Sunday morning. In terms of location, it's in the design district next to a food distribution center. Very bad traffic to get in and out of the school. In terms of community very radical views. I advise anyone interested in this school to do their homework first and see if this really fits you. At first I was interested to join their many chats on wasup but quickly got turned off by the personalities and information shared. I was attracted to Center due to their marketing tactics of colorful, happy and healthy school. I have to give it to them, they market themselves really well. They film every event that happens in the school and put it in social media. The admissions tour guy is a great sales man as I remember he insisted we apply right away because there weren't that many open slots. Later I found they were eager to get more students in the door and had plenty of vacancies. They even called me to see if I knew anyone that was interested in applying. They also contacted me to put a positive review on google. I liked the fact that they taught many languages, but later realized it's just a cultural immersion class where they learn how to count, sing and maybe 10 words in the foreign language during the entire school year. There's no academic pressure, it's like a big colorful daycare where kids go to play and hang out with their friends and the parents hang out there as well. The teachers are also seen as friends. They do meditation, mindfulness and a ton of activities and events for parents to participate. It was too much for me as I work full time.

When #2 appointment rolled around she was very rude during their meet and greet hour and kept speaking over my son, not allowing him to speak. I tried a couple of times to tell her what he was saying and she began to silence me by telling me that she can only take answers from the child. To which I advised, I'm only saying exactly what he was trying to tell her. She proceeded to tell me that her volume is all the way up and she hears me clearly, so... It got to the point where my son stop answering her with his words and began using hand signals. During their meet and greet she revealed that she had been a elementary teacher for 8yrs -i cannot understand how. My 9yr old son, who is a people's person with an outdoor personality was very unengaged. She did not capture him in the slightest. She was more interested in using the 45mins they had together to tell him of her trips to Latin America with her family and her love for making music, then to to figure out how to capture my son's attention and keep him engaged. My goodness -I can go on and on about how badly the lesson went. Can you believe this woman began the lesson by yawning and telling my child she was feeling tired from staying up too late the night before RIGHT AFTER my child told her he was feeling EXCITING about starting tutoring. Then she had the audacity to cancel all future appointments with my child at the beginning of their next appointment with NO notice. The experience with this company has been extremely disappointing and unprofessional.

Management is very supportive and takes time to hear feedback from parents and tutors. I enjoy the opportunity to help mentor new tutors. It has been very rewarding.

Attended an Italian cooking class via Groupon last Saturday at Cuisine Gourmet in the Gables. We…read moreexpected this to be an interactive cooking class, meaning we ourselves would be dicing and sauteing away but that was not the case. Instead, the cooking station is surrounded by a tall counter and bar stools and the group simply watches Claudio cook. Our group had about 12 people, all very friendly 20 and 30 somethings. Claudio started off explaining about different cooking and language classes the institute offers. We then indulged in some prosecco and antipasti (prosciutto di parma, olives stuffed with anchovies and chunks of parmigiana cheese). The first course was gnocchi with Gorgonzola cream sauce, accompanied by an Italian red zinfandel. It was simply boiled gnocchi out of a box and Gorgonzola slowly melted in heavy cream. Several people in our group were kitchen novices but if you are an intermediate cook you are well beyond this step. It could have been spruced up with some crisped pancetta or toasted pine nuts. The second course was rigatoni with a simple bolognese sauce. This dish was delicious and made me rethink my tomato base for my own marinara sauce. Claudio used Pomi tomato puree right out of a carton and it had just the right texture and sugar already added to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes. I will look for this stuff at Publix. For dessert, Claudio served a Marsala dessert wine and a chocolate hazelnut treat he brought from Italy, as well as some store bought panettone. The chocolate treat was somewhere between a block of chocolate and a really dense brownie. All in all, we had a fun afternoon and met some nice people. If you're expecting to improve your culinary skills, you will be disappointed.
