I'm very pleased. I went here looking for a new puppy. Let me start off by saying that the place was well kept. They were kalso well stocked with germex and paper towels that way you can use it before handling a puppy as well as immediately after. They enforce mask a social distancing but you are very much able to play with the animals with care. I worked with Jake and he was awesome. He was so patient and answered all of my questions and believe me I had a lot. Once I found the puppy or should I say she found me. It was a done deal. She found her forever home. She is a small breed dog so the only negative part I am say is that when I was getting of of the things she would need initially they gave me a 25 LB of dry dog food and 48 can carton of wet food. It wasn't until I brought her to the vet that they said that the amount of food was unnecessary and because she was so small she was going to eat only a tiny amount anyway. I'm planning on taking the food to donate it to the aspca of any animal pound. Other then that I had a very delightful experience and am so very happy that I chose Shake A Paw for my forever pet. read more

My husband and I set out yesterday and drove over an hour to a different puppy store in Bayside, Queens. We had an appointment to see a puppy and, unfortunately, when we arrived our puppy had been sold the evening before. The owner of the store was very apologetic; he wanted to contact us before we came, but he did not have our phone number. He showed us a different puppy that was very cute, but not quite what we were looking for. Let me make it clear that at this time, during a pandemic, there was one other couple there with a different salesperson finishing up their puppy sale transaction and us. One other woman came in to pick up her dog from grooming. You were only allowed to see and pet the puppies you were interested in. Although I left there puppy-free and a little heartbroken, I felt safe while inside and I felt that the puppies were cared for and kept safe. I would go back there in a heartbeat. So, I had looked at other puppies all over the Long Island area and I called Shake-a-Paw from the car and asked if I needed an appointment because it sure sounded that way on their website. The nice man told me to come on down, so I figured they must not be busy. When my husband and I walked in the door of the store about a half hour later the place was packed, and I mean packed. There were at least 25 people in the store, forget about social distancing, there were kids without masks(older kids), everyone had their hands all over the puppies, and lots of barking. We were there about 5 minutes and I said I had to get out of there. From seeing all this I had a pretty bad feeling about how much they care about their puppies and their customers. These reviews are a joke lol. I browse puppy stores almost every week for fun and I can tell you for a fact there's nothing wrong with the dogs or staff. They always ask if you need help, they always try and sell you a dog (which is their job) and they're never rude about it. I've never once seen a dog cough, look sickly, malnourished, or anything bad in the 2 years I've been browsing that store. These reviews are all ridiculous. These are the people who write essays about how a waiter was rude to them when really they were the ones at fault. Don't take anything these delusional people say seriously lol. FFS. read more

I purchased my 6 month old Beagle puppy, Mylo from them last week. He is a very good dog. I will first start with the pros then the cons. Pros- pure bred puppies with AKC and microchip. Puppies are clean and the place is clean. Have sales on older puppies. Saves you money because it includes all of there shots. Includes a free vet visit, included the antibiotics for his cold. Cons- My puppy Mylo has Kennel Cough. He is too skinny, the vet said I have to fatten him up. There is an added fee of $135 for the microchip. They do not walk the dogs, my puppy was in a cage for the first 6 months of his life. The puppies do not come neutered. At first I was scared to purchase a puppy from them because of all of the negative reviews I read here on yelp. But all in all if you choose the right puppy and take them to the vet right away, you should be fine. Mylo is an energetic pup who is over all healthy. read more

October 10 2020 I bought a red mini Goldendoodle female and put a down payment of $400 a week before. When I first saw the puppy she vomited clear fluid. This should have been a red flag but the manager said that they would take the puppy to the vet. When I picked her up she seemed ok. After day 3 she was sneezing and vomiting clear fluid and I took her to the vet ASAP. The vet is the one that Shake a Paw recommends. They said she has "a cough" - they never gave a proper diagnosis and prescribed antibiotics. I believe that Emma has either Parvo/distemper or kennel cough. When I took her home she was very lethargic and I panicked. I later found out that this pet shop has a terrible reputation for selling sick puppies. I started crying uncontrollably and my sister called the pet shop. The manager said I could take the puppy to the vet clinic and they would cover the bill. The puppy stayed overnight and was given fluid and stayed for further testing. The vet told me she had a positive result for the fecal exam and the clinic told me about all of the medications I would have to give her. Once I spoke with the manager and told her about my concerns about the articles regarding sick dogs, and mentioned I was considering returning the puppy I get a cal form the clinic saying the puppy is perfectly healthy and ready to go home. I think that the pet shop and clinic work together because other reviewers mentioned that they took their puppies to other vets and received different results. I moved forward with returning the puppy and the pet shop wanted to pay me via check instead of crediting my credit card. I filed a dispute and recently had my claim closed. The manager was understanding but I would advise to stay far away from this pet shop. The dogs are way overpriced. I now have a Cavapoo and she is in great health and cost half the price read more

Adorable puppies but the worst sales policies ever. I went into Shake A Paw to look at golden retriever puppies alone. They had several available so I asked a sales associate how much they were. He said he would have to get a manager to get me a price and would I like to bring a puppy into a private room. I said I did not want to do that, I only wanted a price for now. When he didnt move I asked him to get the manager. I was told I could not see the manager or get a price unless I took a puppy in a room to play with. Why would any sane person want to fall in love with something they might not be able to afford. I know it takes me 30 seconds to fall in love and they are counting on this. Had I been given a price I might have taken a puppy into a room and I might have come back with my husband and son. Unfortunately I wished the salesman a good day and left. Despite the rush they put on you to buy a puppy the same day you walk in, I actually didn't have too bad of a time there. All the reviews at first had me very worried about buying a dog, because I heard of people buying sick dogs and they're dogs just dying on them, and i couldn't possibly deal with that burden. I was able to purchase a Pekingese and Mini Poodle mix, she's a girl, she was 4 months when I got her and she's got wavy cream colored hair. My baby is now 1 year old. And she's healthy, active, playful, a little shy and the perfect lap dog. Although she's healthy now, she did have a slight cough that I assumed to be kennel cough since all the reviews said their dog had kennel cough, but we took her to a vet and they gave me antibiotics for her and on the third day of taking the antibiotics she has had no cough. In all honesty I think they should have the puppies moving around more and getting fresh air rather than cooped up like chickens in those glass dungeons. No animal of any age needs to be locked away like that without any physical stimulation. The earlier you engage them with other puppies and people the more the puppy will flourish. But don't turn away from shake a paw because of the many negative reviews, please go in there for yourself and fall in love with a puppy and take good care of it, keep up to date with the vet visits and your puppy should be fine. read more

Excellent customer service with the cutest puppies. We bought a miniature schnauzer and she is yummy. The store is clean and the atmosphere is one we felt comfortable in. We never felt rushed and all the staff was willing to help, especially Daniella. Not to mention Tina. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone buying your next best friend at Shake a Paw. Went to buy a 8 week old husky named Adam I live in jersey and the puppy had lose stool so they said they had to hold him for atleast a week until vet cleared. Over a month later after a 500 dollar down deposit they finally called to say the dog is good to go home a week in I called to see if I could pick him up and then all of a sudden he came down with a cold. A month is a bit long to get rid of lose stool and a cold in my opinion. Plus when we took him to the play penn he seemed off like he was drowsy and had no energy for a puppy. We just bought a seemingly healthy miniature schnauzer for a very expressive $1600 and two days after we got him he began hacking and coughing and vomiting. After a trip to the vet he was found to have bacteria in his stool and kennel cough! He spent 4 days in the hospital and a month after, it's still coughing! I have been wanting and researching about bulldogs for the past 4 years. I went to Shake a Paw with no intention of buying a puppy (usually how it works) and ended up falling in love with the most adorable Victorian Bulldog. One of the employees acknowledged us, and as i look up, she is wearing a bulldog necklace. Right away, i thought, ok.... this is the person i need to deal with. Her name was Cathy and she was AWESOME!!! Seriously, if you are looking to buy a bulldog, she is the person to go to. She told us everything and anything my boyfriend and I needed to know and we couldn't thank her enough. She played with him when we weren't able to be around, she called him by the name we picked out (which is Bowser, so fitting...) and she made sure everyone else that worked there were aware of who we were when we came to visit. We visited him every night for a week straight and then we were told we could pick him up on Sunday. Cathy was the one to call us and tell us to come in and pick up Bowser. When we arrived, she spent over an hour with us going over what food he should have and what toys are good for him before taking him home. We have had him for over a week and he is honestly the BEST puppy anyone could ask for. Lazy as can be, snores like crazy and eats like a monster. Yes, he has Kennel cough, but any dog you buy is going to have that. Whether you get from a breeder, your neighbor or the pet store around the corner, they are going to develop some sort of sickness from being around so many other dogs. We had him checked by our local vet and he is healthy besides the cough. For anyone buying a dog from here and is having the same issue with the cough, buy honey and coconut oil, add it to their food twice a day and you will notice a significant difference in your pup. DONT NOT BUY PUPPIES FROM THEM!!! Bought a 3 month old puppy last month. Cutest thing ever instantly fell in love. Paid over 2k for her, what they call the complete package (free vet visit, AKC certificate, microchip, etc). Adored her cute little face, so even though it was a lot more than I wanted to spend I thought she'd be worth it. 4 days after she came home, 3 days before her appointment with the recommended veterinary for the "free" first exam, she began to excrete blood, obviously I became extremely worried and moved the appointment up. Took her to the vet, they automatically knew based on the photos she had a parasite. Did the stool sample, she ended up having 2 different types of parasites!!! Both giardia, and coccidia. Her levels of coccidia was so high they warned I had to pick the medicine up, and start treatment ASAP! They explained how she must of gotten the parasites, which is due to the puppies being in such confined spaces with each other, pooping, and stepping in it, and unfortunately licking their paws, or even getting in their food and repeat. Which just shows me the lack of cleanliness, and care for the puppies health this place has. Their immune systems are so fragile at this young stage you think they would take better care of these puppies! Obviously not! Then charge so much for these puppies, and not taking better care of them. Of course the medicine was not include so more money out of my pocket. 4 weeks later at a new vet of my choice, testing her sample, and she still has a high level of giardia! I feel like it's never ending, and unfortunately I have to keep coming out of pocket! I also feel so bad, because she such a sweet innocent little puppy that I just wish would get better. Long story short, don't even bother with this place. They obviously aren't taking the best care of these puppies, charging an arm and a leg, god knows how sick these babies are that you will have to deal with once you take them home. As a follow-up to my prior review..its been about 3-4 weeks or so and 4 visits to the vet and my puppy is FINALLY improving. Having said that, even though the document I have from the store says that all illnesses that needed treatment as a result of the pet store are covered, I have had to pay for my follow up visits. I can't emphasize how much you should stay away from this scam of a store with their phoney claims. They lie lie lie. If you get a sick puppy..EXPECT TO HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO GET BETTER. When I pointed out the language in the DOCUMENT given to me by the pet store, the Vet's office actually agreed with me - and I swear that this is 100% true and unembelished - and said that they HAVE ASKED THE PET STORE TO CHANGE THE LANGUAGE SO THAT ITS NOT MISLEADING!!! I purchased a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and after 4 days of having him home was told he had a congenital disease (TMJ) and pneumonia. Please note: The vet informed me the puppy should not have been sold as he was clearly born ill. On the morning of 2/24/15 I relinquished ownership of a pembroke welsh corgi with pneumonia. Later that day I returned my contract to "manager" chris who stated I would receive a full refund by mail because "Barabra," "who is in charge of that department, was not in on Tuesdays." On 3/2/15 I called to follow up with the check, as Chris suggested, and was told it was written and needed to be sent out. On 3/6/15 I called yet again to follow up and spoke with "manager" Kathleen stated she could not help me because she was not part of that department. We have been very particular about our puppy search, and have been to countless stores around Long Island looking for the right pup and the right store. In an ideal world, we would have liked to adopt/rescue but just could not seem to find a pup and place that was compatible with our individual needs, so we approached the puppy store scene with caution because of what we've read and heard. The workers at Shake A Paw Lynbrook have, by far, been the most personable and accommodating to our personal circumstance--we have a very particular date before which we're unable to bring home a pup, and most stores immediately dismissed us or didn't take us seriously because we couldn't take home a dog the day we walked in. Not the case with Shake A Paw. We've been in several times and they greet us every time with a smile and warm greeting. Kez is the absolute best, though we've had 0 problems with any of the store's workers (and we've probably met them all by now LOL). We're aware of the complaints made against Shake A Paw and have been sure to ask questions. In my experience, the workers have been honest, straightforward, and having been to the store at most times of the day and on most days of the week, I can tell you that it seems they care for their pups consistently and thoroughly. The store is clean, the dogs seem happy and healthy, with toys, food, and water easily accessible in every crate. When it is less busy, you'll often find workers playing with the pups or going around the room with a cart and grooming them. We are ecstatic to be bringing home our own puppy in May and are so grateful to Shake A Paw for tending so considerately to our circumstance. Obviously, we will remain vigilant until our puppy is home and in guaranteed health, but we've seen absolutely nothing to indicate that that won't be the case. read more

I went in today during a "puppy sale". The store was so hot and about 95% of the dogs were sleeping... shallow breathing.... some even had continuous ticks in their deep sleep with eyes have open. Dehydrated. I felt awful for these poor beings. For the amount of people walking around and trying to interact with the animals, there was zero interest from the dogs. Some were sleeping on each other, others were crawled in a ball in the corners of their pens. It made me very sad. It made my kids sad. It had to be about 75+ degrees in there. They are horrible the puppies are packed into that tight space and some just look depressed or sick. usually i dont post or take the time to write i review, but i thought i should since im still very unhappy with how this place treats their animals, they care more about the sale of the puppy than anything else and sells sick puppies! i found a cute little pomsky only to fall in love, we were meant to be together when i walked into that place she just stood there and gave me this look like please take me home. so i did i finally picked out my first puppy at 25 yrs old...& i was so happy to take the puppy home.. I named her Mia . Then, 3 days later she became so lethargic. She started having a-lot of diarrhea and vomiting bile. The closest 24 emergency vet was 30 mins away. Where we took her to get help. They diagnosed her with parvo virus in which they stated was an illegal bill of sale. Then shake-a-paw- the place where we originally purchased the puppy, recommended us to west hills animal hospital in Huntington where we had to transport the poor puppy in our vehicle with an iv attached to try to get her the right help she needed. While she was there they confirmed she had not just parvo virus but also toxidia. My little mia was no more than two months old, she fought for her life in west hills animal hospital, she underwent treatment there for about a month, during that time in which there was only two occasions they allowed us to visit her, the day we dropped her off and the day she took a turn for the worse. we got a phone call a few days later saying something happened to her mental state of mind , after she already under went 4 major blood transfusions and 2 plasma transfusions from developing because edema was developing and they were trying to bring it down. My little Mia, she fought for her life and she got better and some how took a turn for the worse. I blame shake a paw for not providing better care for their puppies-in which they said would give us FULL REIMBURSEMENT for EVERYTHING & they ONLY reimbursed us for the puppy and NOT for the hospital stay of the puppy, when the puppy was at the 24 hr vet - still has not received payment for the 1500 vet bill stay, & sometimes i think west hills animal hospital could of cared more for their animals too since they are in business together. I will always miss my little girl. I wish she could have made it, 7 months later and it still feels like yesterday shes gone. i wanted to write this post because i carried the weight of the hurt and anger for far too long. In the memory of Mia i wish other people will re consider when thinking of purchasing a puppy from this place! This place deserves 0 stars but there isn't a button for that ! i miss her so much there are no words to describe how bad my heart still aches till this day it feels like just yesterday i brought her home.. i will always miss you my baby mia, i will never forget you and all the good times we had. read more

First of all, clearly all of these dogs are from puppy mills and have some sort of illness, the poor puppies look miserable and some of the were not moving at all, just shallow breathing. Secondly, I was not approached one time, not once, the workers were either standing on their phones, talking amongst either other or with couples/ families. I guess a single, young black female doesn't need any assistance. After walking around and playing with some of the puppies, I realized that quite a few of them are soaking wet. When I did ask a employee about one of the dogs price (French bulldog) she said "well I don't know the exact price of this one, but they can go up to $7000", I inquired about how they payment she said "either you can pay in full or apply for financing and they'll run your credit" and that was all, didn't ask me if I wanted to pick the puppy up to play with her or inquire about me seeking a dog or anything, her co-worker walked up started showing her something on the phone and that was it. I decided to take my leave after that. I did overhear one salesman working with a couple and after telling them the ridiculous price and them saying that's not in their already stated budget, tell them "you have champagne taste and a kool-aid budget, but that's alright I like kool-aid", the couple looked annoyed. Honestly i was considering taking the lazy route and buying from them but I'll just go through a reliable breeder instead and have the satisfaction of knowing I don't have a sick, overpriced puppy. So I am writing this story with a lot of embarrassment... My girlfriend and I got our new puppy Mia from Shake a Paw in Lynbrook. Yes I know please don't judge us we were uneducated and fell in love with sweet Mia. However, they convinced us that they don't associate with puppy mills and that she was covered for 30 DAYS after we got her if anything happened. Fine. We bring her to the vet they recommended (Sunrise Animal Hospital) and they said she was fine with the exception of a parasite, which is common in puppies and an "inverted vulva" that either would or would not need medical attention. However, we wanted to be sure so we followed up with my Vet who I love and trust over at South Shore Animal Hospital... Well, she found and explained to me that 2 major congenital disorders found in Mia. One being the inverted vulva and the other being ingrown eyelids, both of which require surgery. Also that if we had not gone when we did, we would not be able to file under the "Sale of Animal" article 35 d- because Mia is technically not fit for sale. I feel so awful that the chances of Mia being from a puppy mill are pretty high and that I unintentionally contributed to their efforts. However Megan and I will fight this case in efforts to do right and help support groups that eliminate things like this happening to another family and little innocent puppies. Shake A Paw - The '"Sale of Animal" form - Pet Stores Near Me - Lynbrook, New York

I just left Shake Paw and it was the worst experience I've ever had. I called earlier today about 11 a.m. this morning and spoke too Matt. He suggested that I go on the website to view the inventory to know what is available. So I did. I explained to him that I was looking for a Shih-Tuz or a small puppy very similar. I also told him I need to know the price because I am not interested in spending more than $2000 and I don't want to waste my time and I don't want his time. But he let me drive for over an hour only to find out that none of the puppies I am interested in is $2000. He would not give me the price for any of the puppies but he said they would range from $2000 -$4500.....I get to store and any puppy worth having would cost you $4500-$6000 or more. They are running a scame and this why they will not tell you price before you get there. The dog they offered me was old and He had been there for a while. I guess they wanted to pass him off on me. The dog looked like he was sick.. The manager Pat was very rude and have no customer service skills. Please, Don't waste your time and money to come to this place. You will regret it. read more

Just walked out or shake a paw looking for a chihuahua. The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and got a girl to come help me look at the ones in the front. Not only was the redhead by leading with "are you actually going to buy a dog or are you just trying to play with one?" I answered her I obviously wanted a dog and she seemed to not believe me. I then proceeded to ask her questions about the dogs and with every question she avoided answering, she got increasingly annoyed. Until finally she said "you're a little testy. I dont know if you know that". Yeah, i'm testy. You're being rude to someone looking at your 2k+ dogs. I should have listening to what evEryone said about shakeapaw and avoided it.
