Got my awesome yellow lab here 8 years ago. She's healthy. She's amazing. My kids adore her. This place took great care of us and answered all of our questions. Thank you shake a paw!!!!

Good place to get a pet, I got him a few days ago and he is healthy, he only vomited once but he stopped vomiting, recommend this pet store staff is very helpful, healthy after 5 months of having him

If I could give this review no star I would. I came in looking to buy a dog. I asked if I was able to play with one of the dogs. After waiting for about 15 minutes I was denied service. Either the owner or the manager came up to me and said it wasn't a petting zoo. There were multiple people in there playing with dogs but I was denied. Even though there were others there playing with multiple dogs at once. Most of the dogs looked malnourished and had poop all over them. The place itself is dirty and they have horrible customer service. I would NEVER go back again.

I can't even put into words how much hatred I have for this place. It's been over a week and a half of purchasing my dog Dexter (the Doberman) from shakeapaw. In one of my previous reviews for shakeapaw I mentioned all of the issues I had with purchasing Dexter ( please read the other review ). I do not recommend buying anything from here! My current dog is now fighting a upper respiratory infection due to the poor treatment shakeapaw provided for Dexter, when bringing Dexter home and keeping him isolated.. my current dog Benji still got sick. I'm disgusted with this place. I feel so bad for both of my babies. Both dogs are now on antibiotics but still this is insane.. they need to get shut down!!!

I have waited over a year to tell my story about my dog I purchased from this location. Backstory: bf and I wanted a dog. We wanted a lab but living in an apartment at the time we knew a 90lb lab wouldn't be fair for her. We found the breed "beagador." It's a beagle and lab mix, so lab personality with a beagle size. This mix isn't very common and during the first surge of Covid it was already impossible to find puppies, let alone this specific breed. My friend told me about shakeapaw. I knew a puppy store wasn't the way to go but I looked at the website anyway. When I looked they had a fawn colored female beagador. I was shocked. It was exactly what we were looking for. We went to look and fell in love. (This backstory is for the ppl who say if you get a puppy from a store, you're in idiot). We take her home. 3 days in she is lethargic and throwing up, not eating. To the hospital we go. She has kennel cough and parvovirus. She survives! We call her our miracle baby. Well well well...... 4 weeks later she is lame (limping) on her back right leg. We take her back because she's limping, and now crying and screaming. Not a single vet can figure it out. Growing pains? We change her food and they supply anti-inflammatories. Pain continues. Back to hospital. Tramadol/muscle relaxers on board. No pain is managed. She is hospitalized for IV pain medication. We get her back, she's somewhat better with a fentanyl patch. Then it starts all over again in less than 24 hours. We drive back to the hospital. One vet mentions meningitis. They hospitalize her. They run a PCR panel from the other hospitalizations. It comes back positive for distemper virus. Her myoclonus (leg jerking and lameness) is not muscular, it's neurological. Distemper is incurable, fatal, and multi systemic. She was never vaccinated, shakeapaw lied. We took her to one of the best neurologists on Long Island. MRI and spinal taps done. Started on prednisone. She no longer has pain. A lot more occurred that for all intents and purposes I'll save because this would be a novel. Just know after prednisone is got mange, TWICE. We took her to a family vet who said he hasn't seen distemper since his training in Mexico. Please make sure your pets are vaccinated!! She has two bad back legs for the rest of her life, but she does just fine. She's a fighter and our life. I like to believe we saved her from that horrible store and there is a reason why I ever checked their website in the first place. I will say after I called shakeapaw and I supplied proof of vet bills they ripped up the contract and we got her for free. That was after I told then I'd go to the media and sought legal counsel. But that's not really gonna help anyone because of "buyer beware" laws. So PLEASE, buyer beware. We went through the roughest summer of our lives and that's not even saying what our girl Luna went through. Yelp isn't letting me post any pictures. I don't know why.

Do not purchase a dog here unless you r paying CASH. Their finance card/company they suggest is so misleading. I repeat DO NOT USE THEIR UCF CONSUMER CREDIT CARD they offer in that store. If you charge 4000 that better be paid within the 3 months or they add on the $2000 on top of that. So right now I'm at the bank paying off my $4403 or in two days my bal will be $6403. Hopefully u get it. Plus the slim talkative guy brings you around to shop away w down pmt. bal paid is non refundable. I was just expecting a regular credit pmt like any card but, no! read more
I have yet to buy a puppy because I am not quite sure I am ready for the responsibility. But I really enjoy the fact that I can come in and visit the puppies from time to time. I came in once to visit a puppy I was considering and they brought the dog out to me and she smelled horrible! I was completely disappointed in the fact that they were not bathing her regularly. That acutally detoured me from coming back to purchase a friend from them because that made me questioned how they care for the animals prior to me taking one home. read more

Yesterday my son and I made an appointment at shake a paw to see a old English bulldog puppy. We arrived for our appointment on time for Tito and she came over to us and asked us immediately if we were going to walk out with a dog today. we didn't even have a chance to look at the puppy and he felt that we couldn't waste his time if we weren't going to purchase a dog. that was pretty disgusting on the way they do business and I would never ever purchase a dog from shake A paw in lynbrook read more

My husband and I have had two great positive experiences here. Firstly, bought a shitzu 4 years ago and she is our little bundle of joy. During covid we then decided to add another furry family member and bought a frenchie! He's been loads of fun to raise. we've been fortunate that they're both healthy and happy dogs! Highly recommend. read more

Over priced and they sell and ring up everything they get their hands on if you're an inexperienced dog owner. So tell them you have a dog already and you'll get the bare essentials at Petco. $2200 for a yorkipoo that was actually "on sale". Ended up paying over $3000 for things I didn't need. They sold me a "Pomsky" for $5,000 2 years ago. He is 60 pounds now, Pomsky's are supposed to be 20-30 lbs. We just did a DNA test and found out that he has 0 Pomeranian in him. When we got him he was sick for a year. This place breeds sick dogs and sell mix breed and pure breeds and forge paperwork. Hopefully, this puppy mill will be shut down soon. read more

Where do I begin. Oh that's right, the sick great dane you sold us. He was our pride and joy, diagnosed with kennel cough at his first visit. Low white blood cell count at 4 month old! To later die of his pancreas exploding! You dare say you sell healthy dogs. And not from puppy mills. Liars! I wish I did my research on places like you. UPDATE: our dog developed a large tumor in her spleen that was cancerous and sadly passed away. She was 4 weeks away from her 1st birthday and she was fine less than 2 weeks ago. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE OR GIVE THESE SICK FUCKS ANY OF YOUR MONEY! I wouldn't wish this type of pain and suffering on my worst enemy. I will make sure this place gets shut down and be pursuing legal action. read more

I'd give zero stars, my pup Patchez died a year after purchasing him because he was sick. We bought him as a pup and a year later within a week he was paralyzed we spent $8k on a surgery to be told the next day he wasnt going to make it anyways. I've been told from a friend of a friend their puppy from there had Parvo. I have heard so many new pups from there have died within a year or so...this should have been shut down. Longg time ago! I bought my beautiful German Shepherd when he was just 6 months old, 6 years ago from shake a paw. One of my best friends bought a Siberian husky from shake a paw that same day. My shepherd and the husky are both 100% healthy and we never had to take them to the vet for more than just routine check ups. The staff was amazing and very kind to me and my family. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a pup. People are the ones who need to be trained on how to properly raise, care for and teach their furry friends. Do your research and start pointing fingers at yourselves instead of blaming this company! read more

Why is this place still open. I bought a puppy from them about 6 years ago. After a day of having her, she was not acting right. So we brought the puppy to their vet and he took blood and checked her out. He said everything is fine. Well he was wrong. She was still acting weird and 2 days later, she died. A total of 4 days! Took blood work to my vet and he checked it out and said the pup was very sick and if he didnt die, she would have had problems her whole life. I started looking into the breeder of this puppy and found out the breeder had a history of having and selling puppy mill dogs. About a year later Shake a paw was in the news for selling puppy mill dogs. Alot of people were having the same problems we had with pups dying. Well here we are again with Shake a paw in the news again with sick puppies. Close then down already! read more

I just purchased my German Shepard puppy from this place June 28th and not even a week later I'm taking my pup to the vet AGAIN. He's extremely skinny, lethargic, has breathing issues, has extreme diarrhea and hasn't eaten anything in nearly a day and a half. I figured he was so skinny because the other dogs were eating all of the food before he could get to it but no. I called Shake a Paw Lynbrook to let them know that my pup was sick and I was clearly upset because HELLO, my dog is sick and I have 2 others that could potentially get sick as well and they made it clear they won't cover the vet expenses of my other 2. An employee named Michael hung up the phone on me because I was "talking over him", when in all actuality he wasn't letting me express my concerns all he kept saying was "MA'AM". He was extremely rude and clearly shouldn't be dealing with customers. I asked to speak with the manager and coincidentally he had just stepped out. Oh and their favorite line is to throw out how long they've been in business, yeah not sure what that has to do with my pup being sick and all of their crappy reviews but ok. DO NOT purchase your puppy from here, yes they are cute and yes I love my pup but he's clearly unwell. UPDATE: I just spoke with Tom, the manager, and he was just as bad as Michael. Initially, I called solely about my dog, however, after dealing with his employee I complained about that and Tom's exact words were "I don't blame him, we don't get paid enough to deal with people yelling"... ok you go buy a $3000 dog and see if you're all giggles and smiles when he's sick 3 days later. Tom also stated, "get to the point"... top tier customer service, eh? I clearly knew this conversation wasn't going anywhere because Tom kept speaking over me, so I asked for the contact information of the person that owns the store and Tom's response was, there is "no one above" him... now folks, Tom is the manager of the store. He does not own Shake A Paw so there IS someone who cuts him a check every two weeks. I'm currently doing my research to find this persons contact info since Tom refused to give it to me. If anyone has any info please inform me! Thank you. I took my dog the vet associated with Shake A Paw and he told me my dog had an Upper Respiratory Infection and gave me an antibiotic. My main concern was, no blood was drawn nor was there an X-Ray done to make sure my pup doesn't have pneumonia. I gave my pup the antibiotic prescribed but the next day he was worse off, he had green discharge coming out of his nose. I took him to my personal vet less than 24 hours after he saw the CVA vet and she, without being asked, immediately gave my pup a chest X-Ray after listening to his chest and saw his rapid breathing. She showed me the X-Ray and told me my baby had early onset pneumonia, had I not taken him to my vet he only would've gotten worse. read more

This review of my personal experience with this store should be read carefully. I recently visited the store after the passing of my two beloved dogs. I noticed 12 week old golden in the front containment area seemed very docile and trying to get some quiet time in the midst of the more active dogs. After spending a bit of time with her, it was easy to see that she was a quiet and docile dog. I wasn't decided if a large dog could fit my lifestyle at this time and decided to return 2 weeks later after not being able to forget her. She was now the back area with larger dogs who also hadn't sold yet. (around the 14 week-? area now!) She was brought out again but this time I noted a very large lump on the top of her head. I was told that it was most probably a hydroma from the "vet tech". Looking at the stainless walls in the back, I wondered if she may have been knocked into them....( maybe some padding could be added?) But what was more glaring to me was that it obvious that she hadn't received prompt medical attention mostly in part from the generalized answers to my question, "what happened to her?" Well, I had my daughters return to purchase her the next day mainly in part because in my gut I knew that she was in a bad situation. She was returned to the back area where she laid herself flat in the center of the area with her head down as the other trampled around her as they ran back and forth. My daughter even stated after leaving the second time, " can't believe that you are going to leave her to be knocked around for another 2 weeks!" Well, I couldn't! She was purchased the next day for 3800 dollars. I made an appointment with "their" recommended vet for the Wednesday after the last Saturday purchase. That Saturday evening, I asked to speak with the store manager and told him that I was very concerned and should have insisted that the very large bump on the head should have been looked at by an actual vet PRIOR to selling and shared concerns of the possibility of having to get an MRI to get a closer look. Knowing very well I couldn't return her, I did state that it was stupid of me not to have insisted that prompt medical attention and diagnosis should have been done and available to a purchaser. He didn't seem to care at all and stated that any other tests would be handled when "we cross that bridge.' Here is the ending. Took her to my vet on the Monday....she had x-rays and found it was a bad bruise...great news. BUT she also had a piece of her ear missing ( covered by her fur-from most probably the rough-housings in that tight area with the more aggressive dogs. She also needed to have IV started since she was so in need of hydration! A skin irritation was identified on her body( she was constantly scratching her self) and given antibiotics...( most probably from her lying on poorly disinfected flooring under all that cut up paper.) She also had some blood in her feces so the antibiotics would most probably help with a probable parasitic infection. I called the manager to inform him of the outcome of the vet visit entailed and was told " I am creating a scenario larger than what it is!! and mumbled "he would have to see the medical papers" .. WOW !!!!.....is all I can say to that after telling him he would never get the dog back! I did suggest that he re-evaluate his "back area" to see why the dogs are hurting each other and not getting the fluids they need......amongst other things. He raised his voice and asked if I was threatening him.....I simply told him that I was warning him. Of course, Tom hung up.....sad.....very sad.....good advice that you just didn't care to hear or take.... Resources are available to stop this type of activity. I realize now that it was a "paid rescue" that had occurred. She will now get the love, attention and safety she sooo deserves..... Shame on you, Shake a Paw, Lynbrook ! read more

Bought a boxer puppy on a Saturday late October, all night the puppy was coughing and having diarrhea so brought her to the vet the very next day, diagnosed with pneumonia and 2 different types of intestinal parasites. She has made numerous trips to the vet and is still on antibiotics nearly 2 months later. I did not call this store for about 1 month ( stupid me ) to report her being so ill ( I have all the vet bills ) but the condescending " manager " told me there was nothing he could do especially since I waited a month to call him and I did not take her to the vet Shake a Paw deals with ( which is way out of the way for me, 1 hour minimum drive ) This store sold me a very, very sick puppy and I have every single piece of vet evidence that states this starting from less than 24 hours after I took her home. The fact remains clear : Shake a Paw sells sick puppies. read more

So I contacted this place for a price on a dog I saw in their website. I live over an hour away. I want to know how much I'm spending before I get there. The woman who answered the phone was extremely rude and telling me they can't give me a price over the phone, I have to come in and speak to the sales person because they can't look up the price of the dog. Told me to come spend time with the dog and see if I like it then I can buy it. This place sounds like a scam waiting to happen. I'm just not going bother getting a puppy from this place. In these current hard times I figured it would be a good time to do something to uplift my family so about a week ago we went to look at puppies , we told the person helping us over and over we needed a small dog we live in an apartment and most importantly we needed a quiet breed obviously every dog will bark but there are breeds that are very quiet , well we really liked a puppy and asked if that puppy would be quiet , he told us oh yes very quiet perfect apartment dog so 2300 later we owned a 4 month old peek a poo he's adorable after a couple days we did some research and the number one thing about this breed is " IT LIkES TO HEAR ITSELF BARK " and in fact every site confirms this is a breed that barks a lot , so in such a time of desperation this salesman lied flat out he should be ashamed and store should be responsible for these mishaps and deception read more

I am very upset with this place bc they sold me a sick puppy and wouldn't take her back and issue me a refund. On 07/08/2023 I bought a Shih-poo, 4 month old female puppy for $2,500 and the sales associate confirmed that it's a healthy puppy. In addition, I paid almost $850 worth of food and other essential items needed for the puppy as per the associate recommendation. I told the representative that I have never had a dog before and its my first time getting a dog. I called the place and informed them that the puppy has been making weird sounds, and feels like she is choking and gagging and is not feeling well. Since I was very worried, I rushed the puppy to a veterinarian for check up and found that the dog has severe ear infection and severe upper respiratory infection that has to be treated with antibiotics. The veterinarian requested me to also get parasit screening, which cost me $74. The veterinarian suggested me to give canned food to the puppy as she was not eating a lot. I called Shake a paw and informed what dr said and requested them to take puppy back as I cant take care of the sick puppy while working full time and being a single parent But Shake a Paw refused to take puppy back. They advised me to give the puppy to a friend or family member. I have been advised by my attorney to file a lawsuit against Shake a Paw and report them to business bureau. read more

I purchased a beautiful little 8 week old cocker spaniel here last year. He was the sweetest, cuddliest dog you could ever meet. He was extremely smart and easy to train; he lived to make both me and my mother happy, and he definitely did - for 10 months. He was clumsy and cuddly, but little did we know those would lead to much worse symptoms of his back legs not working and him sleeping for up to 16 hours in a day. Blue's first birthday was on May 20, and on May 24 the vet told us we needed to put Blue down to prevent him from suffering anymore. He had a congenital liver condition, and was slowly being poisoned because of the toxins leaking into his tiny body. When Blue came home he had both a parasite and kennel cough. Our long-time, trusted family vet then checked his liver levels and was sorry to tell us something was wrong. We tried everything we could to help Blue, including a pricey liver biopsy surgery. I cannot believe this place would sell the dogs they do to people. If you're looking for a pet to love and take care of for longer than a year do not go to this place. Heartbreaking. read more

I came into Shake A Paw hoping to find a corgi. I found the most precious corgi puppy and requested to take him into one of the play rooms. I was told they were all full so I waited 20min for one to open. FINALLY a room was available so I went looking for an employee to help me (they were all standing together at the register not paying attention). When I was finally able to get into the room, I did not get more than 2 minutes with the puppy before a man came over and said he needed the room. Furious, I said we had waited 20min and just got in there. He didn't even acknowledge me and took the corgi from my arms. I was ready to buy this dog at full price and the customer service completely turned me off. I will bring my business somewhere else. One a side note, while one of the employees was feeding the dogs he dropped wet dog food on a puppies head and left it there. This is a rude and dirty place. read more

bought an English Bulldog in April of 2010. I knew she was my dog the moment I saw her. The person who sold her to us was great and didn't try to push us into a sale. She developed kennel cough the first week we had her, which the shake a paw recommended vet covered and she quickly recovered. However, at the end of July we scheduled her appointment to be spayed. Our puppy had an adverse reaction the anesthesia and immediately went into cardiac arrest. The vet (not the shake a paw vet) was unable to revive her. She was only 6 months old. I did my research to determine why the vet didn't know and what could be done. The vet did all the blood work necessary and our dog was healthy. There is no test to detect this allergy. It turns out that new research suggests this is genetic. From my understanding, this means it would be covered under our contact with Shake a Paw, as they cover genetic disorders. I called Shake A Paw to simply ask what the process would be to determine if this was covered. I understand this is very rare. After listening for less than 5 minutes, the manager (Tashi) said "well what do you want me to do about it. Call the vet - he screwed up" he later continued with "What- you just want me to hand you another dog?". I had already had other vets review the report to determine if it was the vet. The dosages were correct- the vet is not at fault. I was simply looking to determine if there was anything Shake a Paw could do. He was rude and not the least bit sympathetic. I was not looking for another pet, as I feel I have lost a family member. I was looking to see if we had options at some point down the road. He had little to no customer service skills- I can't believe he's the manager. I am so disappointed in the way I was treated. We spent over $3,000 at Shake A Paw and lost our puppy just 3 months later. I at least deserved to be treated with respect and for the manager to have some compassion when I called. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM SHAKE A PAW. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY FROM SHAKE A PAW!!!! After getting our English Bulldog from Shake A Paw he had to be put down 6 days later. He was extremely lethargic when we first had him, but since we have never owned a bulldog before we thought it was apart of the breed's characteristics. Turns out he had kennel cough, which turned into pneumonia, cherry-eye, worms, parasites, and severe congenital heart complications. Our dog was given to us EXTREMELY ill. He was given to my mother as a birthday present, and it was one of the saddest experiences our family had to go through. I'm so upset with myself that I didn't read these reviews before purchasing. I bought a Victorian Bulldog about 5 days ago for $3,400. I was told this breed would be better than the English Bulldog and have less problems. 1 day after bringing him home I noticed he had a cough. Called the vet that I was told to go to by Shake a Paw and the vet said give it time he should be fine. Long story short, my poor pup was throwing up 3 days later and I brought him right to the emergency room to find out he has pneumonia. I'm absolutely devastated and going crazy praying he will come out of this okay. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, getting a nebulizer, IV, and antibiotics. Praying and crying taking it day by day. Nobody should have to go through this when they first buy a puppy. To add on to this, I'm a high school teacher. I told my students what happened, as I have been devastated and it can be seen on my face. One of my students bought the same breed at shake a paw (what are the odds). She said her dog was also sick when they first got him, thankfully he turned out okay. So there you have it - F*** THAT PLACE. My boyfriend bought a boxer puppy from here as a birthday present. Two days later the puppy became gravely sick. Her symptoms included coughing, sneezing, wheezing, vomiting and lethargy. We rushed the puppy to a vet affiliated with Shake a Paw where the vet said the puppy was in such terrible condition that she needed to be rushed to a 24 hour hospital. We later found out that the puppy had mycoplasma, pneumonia and HERPES. The puppy spent weeks in the hospital in bad shape. We insisted that Shake a Paw give us a refund for the puppy since it would have lifelong issues. We called every day to speak to one of the managers and we kept on being pushed off. Shake a Paw took custody of the sick puppy but Tom, a manager at Shake a Paw, denied us from receiving a refund or from speaking to the owner or another manager. Even after receiving an official Letter of Unfit Sale from their own recommended vet Shake a Paw still refused to give us a refund. It is NY state law that if a puppy gets sick within two weeks of buying it, the seller must give the option for a refund. We hired a lawyer to outline the law to Shake a Paw and still no action was taken. We finally had to file complaints to NY State Department of Agriculture, Nassau County and to the NY Attorney General. After over a month of fighting this, the NY State Department of Agriculture forced Shake a Paw to give us our refund. This was a traumatic experience and this business should be investigated for the well being of the puppies being sold here. Also since herpes is highly contagious I'm sure there are other puppies at the store with it. Please beware. They claim that they are "Consumer Affairs Accredited" but if you go on the Consumer Affairs website you can see that this is a lie. Horrible place read more

This place is the worst. I have to follow up constantly with the managers there for an outstanding vet bill. I spent 4k on my puppy just to find out they got her at a breeder in Kansas that was on the top 7 worst in the state. They purchased her from this awful place for 750 just to profit on us knowing well the risks and the factors. They don't care about delivering you a healthy puppy. All they care about is making money and taking advantange of people. I would highly recommend staying away from this awful place. To top it all off they give you outdated paperwork with false and misguiding information regarding the pups included insurance. The 30 day free trial AKC insurance they're giving out with the purchase of a new puppy is from 2021. Therefore, it's 2 years outdated and the deductible and coverage is all changed now. I'm extremely disappointed not only with the customer service there but also appalled at the fact of what measures one would go to gain a few extra bucks. This place should be shutdown and the owners should be sued and charged for negligence. read more

Well, glad the NY DA has gotten involved to shut them down after all their deceiving practices of selling sick, puppy mill dogs to customers who ended up with huge vet bills and/or having their new puppy die. Pretty disgusting. read more

I purchased my 6 month old Beagle puppy, Mylo from them last week. He is a very good dog. I will first start with the pros then the cons. Pros- pure bred puppies with AKC and microchip. Puppies are clean and the place is clean. Have sales on older puppies. Saves you money because it includes all of there shots. Includes a free vet visit, included the antibiotics for his cold. Cons- My puppy Mylo has Kennel Cough. He is too skinny, the vet said I have to fatten him up. There is an added fee of $135 for the microchip. They do not walk the dogs, my puppy was in a cage for the first 6 months of his life. The puppies do not come neutered. At first I was scared to purchase a puppy from them because of all of the negative reviews I read here on yelp. But all in all if you choose the right puppy and take them to the vet right away, you should be fine. Mylo is an energetic pup who is over all healthy. read more

It's so disgusting how Shake A Paw takes advantage of people during these hard times. They are nothing but price gauging pigs. BUYER BEWARE... this is a puppy mill. If you want to purchase a puppy please go to a breeder or a dog shelter. Long story short, I have my puppy for only two weeks and I have been to the vet 5 times. For the amount of money I paid for this puppy she should not be sick. The manager sucks, he lies and could care less about what you have to say. The sales people lie! This whole place is a disgrace and should be shut down. read more

Hello, I am a long time customer of Shake A Paw in Lynbrook as are my family and friends.I have recently read some disturbing and misinformed posts and feel as a multi pet owner who has dealt with this store regularly for over 10 years ,I need to help try to rectify some of this misinformation being passed on. I feel it would be a shame for a person or family to deny themselves a positive -life changing experience becoming a pet owner or repeat pet owner and getting to know the happiness and warmth a puupy adds to your family. I know of no other place then Shake a Paw in Lynbrook to start. Let me begin with their staff who I see as a a dedicated team of workers, I use the term Team because as they are all unique individuals they all have the same dedication for working together to ensure the best care for both the puppies, kittens , as well as their customers. Some misleading facts concerning staff, medical issues, financing and store policies are as follows: The staff at SAP do NOT work on any commission based salary, they have for years worked on creating and keeping a friendly, family atmosphere for their store as well as for their customers. Commissions tend to bring aggressivecompetitive sales, which is not what this store is about. From their "newly in training people to their "Veterans" to their topshelf Kennel menthey seem to all work together to ensure the store remains an above clean, healthy, and friendly envirement for their puppies as well as customers. Someone is always willing to help you 7 days a week! On to the medical side, and I write from personal experiences.SAP deals with hundreds of pups on a daily basis giving us as customers a choice to find the perfect matched puppy for our wants and or needs. So as there are many puppies in their newly redesigned opened pens , done for the comfort and cleanliness of the pups , and for the customer to experience hands on playing with the pups it's understandable puppies are more exposed to each other and can possibly pick up common pup colds, a worm or even a parasite, all very common in puppies regardless of where they are purchased from or even adopted from, These pups come in ,by law, at 8 to 10 weeks old, The staff does everything within their power to avoid a puppy having any issues. The pups are dewormed from the 1st day upon arrival but as with young children just starting school if 1 child has a cold it's a pretty good assumption many in that class will follow as it is with puppies 1 pup has a cold and the other pups can easily follow. SAP has a very reputableVet staff that not only visit the store weekly they have 24/7 access to Vets or the Vet hospital, the same care offered to you upon purchasing your puppy there. There is a time frame for certain med coverages , but SAPs time frame far exceeds the incubation period of any common puppy issue,as Kennel cough, worms , a parasite, so if the puppy breaks out with something after this time frame it is easy to say thepup didn't pick it up in the store so it wouldn't be covered . On the other hand anything within the time frame is dealt with in a most professional and speedy manner, me and my families experiences. But also remember people must stay in the Network! as with your own personal health insurance , Any Drs, office requires you sign a paper that you are responsible for whatever your ins doesn't cover, as well as if you go out of your net work you know you might be responsible for your entire bill , so it is the same with Vets, and puppies It's very unfair not to notify the store if for advice or documenting that you think your pup might be getting sick or a cold or just not acting right,,as explained at time of purchase [my family has purchased many pups here]it is always explained in full clear detail you must stay in the net work of SAP Vet care to be covered!Sap stand behind their pups and are there to help you 24/7 so take advantage!! I also saw confusion on the financing ,using words like scam artists etc Sap by no means receives any monetary benefits by you using the financing, It is an outside companybrought in by the demands of customers , I being one, Sap did this to offer more options, It is fully explained about the interest and terms , it is in writing to see , I read over the contracts and decided this option was not for mebut for those of you that do your issues should be with the finance company altho at the time of purchaseyou are made aware of the charges &terms you chose this option knowingly and the store cannot be faulted for your decision. It again was brought back in the store as a courtesy for their customers.I just feel it would be a shame that for the tens of thousands of puppies and families made happy by owning a SAP pup to the 10 to 20 disgruntled customers ,,you can't please everyone! ,,the odds are well in SAP favor, and if this letter helps just 1 person then I am glad I got involved. read more

The staff is rude and completely unprofessional. My friends and I usually come into this place to look at the pups and give them attention because we all love dogs and honesty who can afford a $2500-$5000 dog? I'd love to buy/adopt one but I'd rather save one from mill shelters and I cannot afford another dog at my home haha. I already have three living with my family and I! The staff looks at you like a hawk acting like you're going to steal a dog. This young girl in particular who has half blonde and brown hair acted so horrible and nasty to my friends and I. She stared at us continuously. My friend and I went over only to see this dog eating/licking poop on the ground. We were like "omg ! The dog is eating poop!" And we were laughing because we were very confused , but only to realize that it was sick because right after it started pooping out liquid. And the girl comes over and tells one of the employees that usually cleans the inside of the little pens to clean it and she just stands over by us. I say to my friend "aw he probably doesn't feel good" and the woman looks me straight in the eyes and says "he's fine." In such a nasty unprofessional tone. I ignored her and just kept talking to my friend because I was so angry and when I start going off, i can't stop. Plus there's no reason to be nasty back , don't want to stoop to her level but If you work at a pet store and think that a dog licking and eating shit and shitting out liquid afterwards is "fine" then you need to get a new job and never get a dog because that's horrible judgement. Anyways, we still looked around at the dogs while she was staring at us the whole time. Then there's this door with a little window on it and there's dogs next to it in a cage (we were petting the other dogs , we weren't just over there for nothing) and the same friend that was with me says "omg look there's dogs in there too! Aww!" And the woman comes over again and says "do you guys need any help" in a nasty tone once again and my friend says "no thank you we're good" I mean we're not gonna get nasty but cmon , who do you think you are? No one is doing any harm by looking at pups and giving them attention. Also when we went inside ALL of the dogs were asleep and most likely drugged. Some of their eyes were rolled to the back of their heads. It was horrible. The staff is disgusting and stares at you and makes you uncomfortable. My parents even adopted a dog from there years ago when I was younger and we ended up putting the poor thing down because it was too violent. Nobody would take him in because of his violent tendencies. Even from the day we got him, you couldn't go near him when he was eating or drinking. He would continuously growl and had many problems. I don't know what they do to those poor things, but if you can , save those dogs! I wish I had the money and a big place to adopt all of those pups. I left feeling angry and uncomfortable. It's horrible how they treat the dogs and the people that walk in. read more

I bought my first dog from Marc at Shake A Paw in Lynbrook many years ago.... And by the time he was 4 months old, he won his first ribbon in the show ring. Now I am not saying that Shake A Paw dogs are all show quality, but the fact is, they are not being sold as show quality. My Akita passed away at the ripe old age of 14.... And was a great dog since day 1. Next I bought my Golden Retriever from him a few years ago. He was not show quality... but he was always healthy and beautiful. I have read other reviews.... "My dog was sick....." etc. So here is the kicker.... I bought my female from the top breeder in the United States; knowing I wanted to breed her, and I paid ten grand for her. Her parents were national champions, so I figured she had to be worth the money. There were four out of eight pups left in the liter when I chose her at three weeks old. I brought her home at 10 weeks. By twelve weeks I was back at the vet, paying a ton of money. When I contacted the breeder, they refused to cover anything. They said she is mine now, therefore my responsibility. Five years ago when my sister wanted a dog for my niece and nephews, I went back to Marc to get them one. Now granted, I am a professional trainer and I also do dog boarding in my home, and I trained her and worked with her, but she is now a certified TDI dog (Therapy Dogs International) and works as a service dog for one of my nephews who is special needs. I highly recommend them over at Shake A Paw. The place is always clean, and the staff cares about the dogs and their customers. Do pups get sick? Absolutely! Especially when people think the place is a petting zoo to entertain their kids, and want to take out every pup just to play. Would a human baby fare so well if people constantly woke it up from a dead sleep just to play? I think not. Sorry... rant over. Just frustrates me when I go to the store for supplies or whatever, and see it going on... and those are the same people who come online and want to bash the store with bad reviews. I have never had anything but positive interactions with the staff at the store, and therefore, will continue to recommend them to my clients, family and friends. read more

I bought my adorable little girl here 2 years ago. She's a maltese/yorkie mix. She hands down is the best dog I've ever had. The staff here was great, super friendly super helpful. This place has a bad wrap "Oh puppy mill this, puppy mill that" honestly, who is to say that buying a dog direct from the breeder is any better???!? I know someone who bought a dog from here 16 years ago....he's still alive and well. I know people who have had breeders pure breds that passed at 4, 2, and 5. So you tell me what is really worse. Just like humans, something can happy with your puppy/dog/cat. The great thing about this place, (both locations because my parents just purchased a cute little guy from here in October) is the booths, you can interact with the puppy and get a sense of the personality before you make the commitment to him/her. The cages are clean, the animals look happy and from my experience have been healthy as well. Of course, puppies just like babies have weak immune systems, and it doesn't take much for them to get sick... IT'S COMMON SENSE...they give you the immunization records, and tell you to have a follow up exam almost immediately with a vet of your choice, or one of there own. I would reccomend Shake A Paw 1000000 times over, infact I gave the information to someone in the Boston area, who might to drive down and look for a puppy. The micro-chipping is a great tool, and it's nice that all of the dogs here are mircochipped, registered with the AKC, and lostmypet.com. Ignore these people who say don't go there, because THEY had a bad experience, I've gotten 2 dogs from there and would do it again and again and again. read more

I very often go into Shake A Paw in Lynbrook because they carry a brand of food that is not offered in other pet stores. While there I'm compelled to visit with the puppies being the dog lover that I am. This past Sunday I had a terrible experience and have not been able to "shake" the picture in my head of a 5 1/2 month old Wheaten terriers face smashed against a glass window of a kennel that with glass so high you couldnt even touch the dog. I asked to have him taken out and the sales person was eager to let me know his price had been reduced. She told me she would like to freshen him up first before viewing him. This dog smelled like perfume who knows when it was last properly bathed and was so lathargic. Spending MONTHS in this pen is JUST CRUEL!!! I stayed with him for awhile to give him human touch and finally got him to respond. What was more overwhelming was the aburd amount of animals in the store-there had to be well over 100 puppies. The smell of feces towards the back of the shop was so profuse it made me gag. Why have things gotten this way and why is there no recourse to control this horrible environment. If I go another sleepness night thinking of this poor puppy getting older and less saleable for them I'm considering making and offer for him and donating this pedigree to North Shore Animal League for adoption. I only wish I was capable of having another dog just not to let this one be mentally abused by the money grubing business Shake A Paw is. read more

I've had many dogs and recently mine passed away suddenly. After making the decision to get a puppy, I went to many stores to look around. Shake a Paw in Lynbrook was the best experience I've ever had. We were helped by multiple people including managers. They all treated us as a friend or family member. They all took their time with us and were so helpful. When it came time to take my new little one home, they brought her out wrapped in a baby blanket with a bow around her neck. They ring a bell for everyone to see a puppy is going home. Everyone was cheering and clapping. I thought about the dog I just lost and how much I needed this puppy and I started to cry. The girl who had been helping us hugged me and walked me out to the car to hold the door for us. They all asked us to come back and visit. My boyfriend is looking for a dog as well. They have me on file to call and when I checked back with them, they remembered me. What an all around great experience. I got love from strangers that I truly needed for this transition from mourning my dog to loving a new puppy. Just took her to her first vet visit and got the all clear that she is doing well. So happy I went to Shake a Paw in Lynbrook. read more

We have been doing business with shake a paw in lynbrook, NY for over 3 years. We have gotten 3 puppies and have been extremely satisfied. We did research and in no way are they a puppy mill type of operation. The sales staff cares and love each puppy they have and care for them like they are their own. They have always been great with us during the purchase process as we travel 4 1/2 hours to get puppies. They sell a lot of puppies and do not have them in store long. They supply great vet checks and they also gave us training on care of puppies each time and they have all the supplies right in store that you would need to get started with new puppy. The staff is very educated about each breed they sell and if they don't know answer they research and get correct information for you. There is 1 salesman there that has helped us several times , Thomas, and he is just super at what he does , he has knowledge, passion for puppies and has gone above and beyond for us each time we purchased a puppy. I will always highly recommend Shake a paw -LYNBROOK to anyone looking to purchase a puppy of any breed. They are Great! Susan H read more

~I have never had a dog before, and went in to see the puppies in the Lynbrook store. I immediately fell in love with a chocolate poodle, about 3 months old. They gave me a a few breaks on the original price & I put the puppy on hold for $200. In 2 weeks I picked the puppy up ... she was bathed and looking as energetic & healthy as I had seen her. They gave me papers, and said she most likely will have kennel cough & possibly parasites. I took her to my vet for an exam, and he said she appeared very healthy & when tested, she did have parasites. The parasites were cleared up by the second dose of antibiotics. She NEVER came down with kennel cough. My puppy is now 9 months old and the JOY of my life. She is good tempered, absolutely funny, and very healthy & energetic !!! The only thing I did not like about Shake A Paw was the PUSH to sell you a puppy. However, they did take their time to work with me, and constantly allowed me to visit with her, and worked with me on a price. My experience in total was very very very good !!! read more

We went to this place 3times before we actually took one home. The place always has cute new little puppies whenever we come back. The last time was when we finally decided to get one. He was the biggest puppy in the entire store tho he was ony 3mos old. But he was the most adorable one. I thought the price we got him for was pretty reasonable for a mixed pup. We asked to see him and the lady actully left us with him for a while so we can olay and get to know him. We didnt feel any pressure at all. Cathy, the lady who we talked to was very nice and new the puppy a lot so we had a lot of info about him to take home. They bathed him before we left and explained all that we needed to know, except for one little thing. They have a vet that we dont have to pay for when we visit. They didnt explain that if we visit a different one the contract would be voided. So we had to pay for it when we went to visit. Overall, we give this place 5stars read more

I am a big fan of this store. About a year ago my wife and I purchased a Teddy Bear (Shih Tzu/ Bichon Frise) puppy from the store. He has got to be one of the best dogs I have ever owned. His name is Nails and he was definitely the cutest puppy in the store. Once we saw him dancing around in the pen my wife and I new he was the one. We were given some private time in a room to get to know him. The woman that helped us ( I think her name was Kathleen?) answered a bunch of questions we had about the breed and health guarantees. She gave us some pointers on housebreaking that proved to be very useful as well. He is happy and healthy and we wouldn't give him up for the world. We paid a bit more then we originally had budgeted but it was money well spent. I have recommended the store to my coworkers and friends and will continue to do so. read more

Purchased a toy poodle here who had to be euthanized by their veterinarian because she had a severe case of parvovirus and was not responding to medical treatment. The store offered me a "replacement" puppy who ended up passing away at a very young age from a congenital heart defect. I've contacted the store via Facebook, but they have deleted my comments. I also reached out through email and they will not provide any information...they just told me to come to the store and purchase another dog. Horrendous customer service, but more importantly lack of concern for the well being of the dogs being sold. The vet told me that the parvo could have been very easily prevented or at the very least, treated immediately which would have likely saved its life...the staff just kept telling me she was just very shy and calm. read more

My family has been purchasing puppies from this establishment since it's opening, and from it's ownership in the many years before that. We have always had outstanding, high quality, "that's a great-looking dog" type of dogs. I and the rest of my extended family will undoubtedly continue to purchase dogs from this business in the future. For those looking for an honest review of Shake A Paw, beware of the numerous negative reviews that tend to focus on "puppy mills" and other examples of poor quality puppies, as they are nothing more than conterfeit statements provided by animal activists now using internet feedback blogs as a means of carrying out their "war" on the pet industry. This is a great business, with a great product that has and will continue to keep families happy for years and years to come. read more

I took my son to visit Shake A Paw last weekend as we were thinking of getting a new puppy now that summer is over. As we entered the store we were pleasantly surprised that there was no smell whatsoever and the place was spotless. My son instantly feel in love with a Mini-Goldendoodle, after some negotiating with Kristin we decided to take home Charlie. So far he has been perfect and is almost housebroken already. Our experience with Shake A Paw was great and I have already recommended them to a few friends. I would like to know why my review is not posted on this site... It seems as though only negative reviews are showing and the positive reviews disappear. I see a lot of the nice reviews are hidden on another page. Doesn't seem right to me.... read more

stop purchasing your puppies from places like this. plus they lie and refer you to whatever vet, saying "the vet is covered for a month" but when you go to the vet the vet HAS NO IDEA WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. the initial first visit should be free at whichever vet they refer you to.. nothing else is, or should be, covered. the puppies are always sneezing, coughing, have intestinal parasites.. i can understand all that, when they're all together all day if one has it they all will but this place sells puppies with congenital illnesses that SHOULD NOT BE SOLD. and they LIE TO YOU. stop stop stop filling their wallets!!!! read more

I fell in love when I went into this pet store. The puppies were gorgeous!! The sales people were so friendly, kind, and attentive. " That lasts as long as your in the store". the puppies are a bit over priced. Some of the information given is very misleading as well. That did not stop me from purchasing my little baby. My only advice is to ask as many questions as possible or you will walk out of there with half the facts, and get attitude over the phone depending on who answers. I will not go back there for my second pet. Oh my baby had ear mites and a cough. Good luck!! read more

Don't get a dog here. I love my puppy, but he came home with Kennel Cough and Giardia. I was hesitant to buy a dog from a pet store instead of a breeder or a shelter and now I wish I had followed my instincts. The people at the store are nice and friendly, but these are not quality dogs and they are not being properly cared for. Save your money and buy from a breeder or adopt. I have already paid $100 in bills not covered by their 'free vet' in the four days I have had him. If you really want a puppy, go somewhere that they really care about the dogs! read more

We bought a puppy for 2000. The dog had kennel cough now has upper and lower respiratory infections. DO NOT BUY YOUR DOG THERE. THEY NEED TO BE CLOSED. ITS A TRAVESTY. Don't be fooled by the cute puppies They want your money and call your own vet crazy if you don't use their vet. Why would anyone use a vet they pay. The dogs are sick to begin with. I got my first puppy from Shake A Paw. I was helped by Edwin C who was very helpful and friendly. He took his time while I got acquainted with my new pup. I had no idea what I needed for a new dog and he went through with me and picked out all of the items I would need, He explained in detail the type of food to feed my pup even down to the type of toys.
