Got my awesome yellow lab here 8 years ago. She's healthy. She's amazing. My kids adore her. This place took great care of us and answered all of our questions. Thank you shake a paw!!!!

Good place to get a pet, I got him a few days ago and he is healthy, he only vomited once but he stopped vomiting, recommend this pet store staff is very helpful, healthy after 5 months of having him

If I could give this review no star I would. I came in looking to buy a dog. I asked if I was able to play with one of the dogs. After waiting for about 15 minutes I was denied service. Either the owner or the manager came up to me and said it wasn't a petting zoo. There were multiple people in there playing with dogs but I was denied. Even though there were others there playing with multiple dogs at once. Most of the dogs looked malnourished and had poop all over them. The place itself is dirty and they have horrible customer service. I would NEVER go back again.

I can't even put into words how much hatred I have for this place. It's been over a week and a half of purchasing my dog Dexter (the Doberman) from shakeapaw. In one of my previous reviews for shakeapaw I mentioned all of the issues I had with purchasing Dexter ( please read the other review ). I do not recommend buying anything from here! My current dog is now fighting a upper respiratory infection due to the poor treatment shakeapaw provided for Dexter, when bringing Dexter home and keeping him isolated.. my current dog Benji still got sick. I'm disgusted with this place. I feel so bad for both of my babies. Both dogs are now on antibiotics but still this is insane.. they need to get shut down!!!

I have waited over a year to tell my story about my dog I purchased from this location. Backstory: bf and I wanted a dog. We wanted a lab but living in an apartment at the time we knew a 90lb lab wouldn't be fair for her. We found the breed "beagador." It's a beagle and lab mix, so lab personality with a beagle size. This mix isn't very common and during the first surge of Covid it was already impossible to find puppies, let alone this specific breed. My friend told me about shakeapaw. I knew a puppy store wasn't the way to go but I looked at the website anyway. When I looked they had a fawn colored female beagador. I was shocked. It was exactly what we were looking for. We went to look and fell in love. (This backstory is for the ppl who say if you get a puppy from a store, you're in idiot). We take her home. 3 days in she is lethargic and throwing up, not eating. To the hospital we go. She has kennel cough and parvovirus. She survives! We call her our miracle baby. Well well well...... 4 weeks later she is lame (limping) on her back right leg. We take her back because she's limping, and now crying and screaming. Not a single vet can figure it out. Growing pains? We change her food and they supply anti-inflammatories. Pain continues. Back to hospital. Tramadol/muscle relaxers on board. No pain is managed. She is hospitalized for IV pain medication. We get her back, she's somewhat better with a fentanyl patch. Then it starts all over again in less than 24 hours. We drive back to the hospital. One vet mentions meningitis. They hospitalize her. They run a PCR panel from the other hospitalizations. It comes back positive for distemper virus. Her myoclonus (leg jerking and lameness) is not muscular, it's neurological. Distemper is incurable, fatal, and multi systemic. She was never vaccinated, shakeapaw lied. We took her to one of the best neurologists on Long Island. MRI and spinal taps done. Started on prednisone. She no longer has pain. A lot more occurred that for all intents and purposes I'll save because this would be a novel. Just know after prednisone is got mange, TWICE. We took her to a family vet who said he hasn't seen distemper since his training in Mexico. Please make sure your pets are vaccinated!! She has two bad back legs for the rest of her life, but she does just fine. She's a fighter and our life. I like to believe we saved her from that horrible store and there is a reason why I ever checked their website in the first place. I will say after I called shakeapaw and I supplied proof of vet bills they ripped up the contract and we got her for free. That was after I told then I'd go to the media and sought legal counsel. But that's not really gonna help anyone because of "buyer beware" laws. So PLEASE, buyer beware. We went through the roughest summer of our lives and that's not even saying what our girl Luna went through. Yelp isn't letting me post any pictures. I don't know why.

usually i dont post or take the time to write i review, but i thought i should since im still very unhappy with how this place treats their animals, they care more about the sale of the puppy than anything else and sells sick puppies! i found a cute little pomsky only to fall in love, we were meant to be together when i walked into that place she just stood there and gave me this look like please take me home. so i did i finally picked out my first puppy at 25 yrs old...& i was so happy to take the puppy home.. I named her Mia . Then, 3 days later she became so lethargic. She started having a-lot of diarrhea and vomiting bile. The closest 24 emergency vet was 30 mins away. Where we took her to get help. They diagnosed her with parvo virus in which they stated was an illegal bill of sale. Then shake-a-paw- the place where we originally purchased the puppy, recommended us to west hills animal hospital in Huntington where we had to transport the poor puppy in our vehicle with an iv attached to try to get her the right help she needed. While she was there they confirmed she had not just parvo virus but also toxidia. My little mia was no more than two months old, she fought for her life in west hills animal hospital, she underwent treatment there for about a month, during that time in which there was only two occasions they allowed us to visit her, the day we dropped her off and the day she took a turn for the worse. we got a phone call a few days later saying something happened to her mental state of mind , after she already under went 4 major blood transfusions and 2 plasma transfusions from developing because edema was developing and they were trying to bring it down. My little Mia, she fought for her life and she got better and some how took a turn for the worse. I blame shake a paw for not providing better care for their puppies-in which they said would give us FULL REIMBURSEMENT for EVERYTHING & they ONLY reimbursed us for the puppy and NOT for the hospital stay of the puppy, when the puppy was at the 24 hr vet - still has not received payment for the 1500 vet bill stay, & sometimes i think west hills animal hospital could of cared more for their animals too since they are in business together. I will always miss my little girl. I wish she could have made it, 7 months later and it still feels like yesterday shes gone. i wanted to write this post because i carried the weight of the hurt and anger for far too long. In the memory of Mia i wish other people will re consider when thinking of purchasing a puppy from this place! This place deserves 0 stars but there isn't a button for that ! i miss her so much there are no words to describe how bad my heart still aches till this day it feels like just yesterday i brought her home.. i will always miss you my baby mia, i will never forget you and all the good times we had. read more

I recently purchased my english bulldog there and i am very pleased with the service. They have these booths you can go into to play with different dogs so u can see which dog is right for you. they have a lot of staff who are willing to stay with you and show you as many dogs as you want to see. we looked at about 5 bulldogs before picking the one for us. there prices are a bit high but the animal quality and service was worth it in my opinion. my only complaint besides price was that our full bred bulldog did not have a family bloodline tree to go with her. read more

First of all, clearly all of these dogs are from puppy mills and have some sort of illness, the poor puppies look miserable and some of the were not moving at all, just shallow breathing. Secondly, I was not approached one time, not once, the workers were either standing on their phones, talking amongst either other or with couples/ families. I guess a single, young black female doesn't need any assistance. After walking around and playing with some of the puppies, I realized that quite a few of them are soaking wet. When I did ask a employee about one of the dogs price (French bulldog) she said "well I don't know the exact price of this one, but they can go up to $7000", I inquired about how they payment she said "either you can pay in full or apply for financing and they'll run your credit" and that was all, didn't ask me if I wanted to pick the puppy up to play with her or inquire about me seeking a dog or anything, her co-worker walked up started showing her something on the phone and that was it. I decided to take my leave after that. I did overhear one salesman working with a couple and after telling them the ridiculous price and them saying that's not in their already stated budget, tell them "you have champagne taste and a kool-aid budget, but that's alright I like kool-aid", the couple looked annoyed. Honestly i was considering taking the lazy route and buying from them but I'll just go through a reliable breeder instead and have the satisfaction of knowing I don't have a sick, overpriced puppy. As for the customer service here's a free tip, if you see a young, black female strolling around on a Sunday looking for a dog, most like she has a disposable income to spend and you should try to assist her. read more

Warning**** Do not buy any pets from shake a paw!!! I bought Bella, a yellow Labrador retriever on 5/19/2012 and she was absolutely the sweetest and cutest puppy anyone can ask for. I've always wanted a yellow labrador and when I saw Bella, I knew she was the one. She was such a happy curious puppy. She's very energetic and people friendly. When I bought her home the first day she was shy and uncomfortable with the new environment. She refused to go outside for a walk, then she slowly transition to the outside world. I was stopped every 5 seconds by pedestrians for complimenting how adorable Bella was. She was the center of attention and people loves petting her. 4 days later, 5/23/2012 @ 9:00 AM, Bella started to vomit, diarrhea, had loss of appetite and was lethargic. She was so sick and tired that she didnt want to do anything but sleep. She was constantly thirsty and hasnt consume any food for the entire day. I took her to the emergency vet at 5/24/2012 @ 12:34 AM and she was diagnosed with Parvo, a highly contagious virus that damages the puppies' intestine and lowers their immune system. It takes 7-10 days for the virus to incubate therefore when I bought Bella, she was already sick but she didn't present the symptoms until she was home. The vet recommended Bella to stay over night because of the deadly virus and informed that the hospitalization bill can costs up to 2k. Unfortunately, I was not able to finance the hospitalization so she was discharged from the emergency 3 hours later and was bought home. The vet said Bella was stable enough to return home but requires outpatient treatment. 5/25/2012 @10:15 AM, Bella was bought to the sunrise animal hospital and was admitted for Parvo. She was pronounced dead at 5/27/2012 @ 12:15 PM. =...( Shake a paw will not give any cash refund and said they will only replace a puppy with the equivalent or less value of the purchased puppy. Parvo affects mostly puppies and is highly infectious. Bella was in a little booth with 10 other puppies and those booth can be contaminated with Parvo already. Those puppies may or may not exhibit signs or symptoms of Parvo but I'm sure they're infected already. The immunization record and the puppies age from shake a paw are questionable. Bella was too young to die. I've had her for less than a week and became so attached to her. Shake a paw as a puppy mill was licensed to sell puppies but their business is all a fraud. They just want to make money and disregard the puppies lives. The health department should investigate their stores and close their business. read more

I just left Shake Paw and it was the worst experience I've ever had. I called earlier today about 11 a.m. this morning and spoke too Matt. He suggested that I go on the website to view the inventory to know what is available. So I did. I explained to him that I was looking for a Shih-Tuz or a small puppy very similar. I also told him I need to know the price because I am not interested in spending more than $2000 and I don't want to waste my time and I don't want his time. But he let me drive for over an hour only to find out that none of the puppies I am interested in is $2000. He would not give me the price for any of the puppies but he said they would range from $2000 -$4500.....I get to store and any puppy worth having would cost you $4500-$6000 or more. They are running a scame and this why they will not tell you price before you get there. The dog they offered me was old and He had been there for a while. I guess they wanted to pass him off on me. The dog looked like he was sick.. The manager Pat was very rude and have no customer service skills. Please, Don't waste your time and money to come to this place. You will regret it. read more

Just walked out or shake a paw looking for a chihuahua. The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and got a girl to come help me look at the ones in the front. Not only was the redhead by leading with "are you actually going to buy a dog or are you just trying to play with one?" I answered her I obviously wanted a dog and she seemed to not believe me. I then proceeded to ask her questions about the dogs and with every question she avoided answering, she got increasingly annoyed. Until finally she said "you're a little testy. I dont know if you know that". Yeah, i'm testy. You're being rude to someone looking at your 2k+ dogs. I should have listening to what evEryone said about shakeapaw and avoided it. But if you wanted to be treated badly, by all means go shop there. #gingertude read more

Horrible customer service and I haven't had my puppy for a month and he is sick. Since I got him, he has parasites that won't go away. On his 3rd treatment of medicine.... that and other issues. Puppy comes from a puppy mill. The breeder on the paper is a know puppy mill. They preached the contract with filling out false information and lying where he came from. I emailed to inquire more information on a puppy I saw on the website. I received one voicemail while in a meeting and then was able to pick up when they called a second time. I answered and explained that I saw a puppy that I was interested in meeting them. The man on the phone was extremely standoffish and responded by saying "I don't know anything" "I don't know them by name" "What do you want to know". I responded to the last question by saying "It doesn't seem like you know too much and that you can help me" and he responded by saying "I've been doing this for 30 years I know what I'm doing." Very unpleasant interaction and a horrible way to maintain costumers. I have no doubt they have amazing puppies, but if you don't have the time to talk nicely to costumers then don't contact them. read more

Went to look to see what breed would be good for my family. Impressed by selection of puppies at this store. Tom helped us out and we looked at the golden doodles. He was very knowledgeable about the dogs and patient as we looked at three dogs and he answered all of our questions. My daughter went to select the third puppy to play with and he was the one. Then we shopped for items needed for the puppy. Spent a small fortune. Many of the items are cheaper online so just get a list of basic needs. Contract comes with first shots covered as well as some other issues/medicines covered which was nice as he has parasite. Akc membership was also part of package. Registration for that was slow so I called Akc, who told me there was another fee to process. I have no idea about this and paid fee. I consulted with Pet store and they told me it was already covered and called Akc and helped get me credited. If first time paw-rent be careful of being oversold things. read more

I went in today. They said you need an appointment. It was a total mad house not social distancing or cleaning rules just some antibacterial solution on the counter. Way to crowded and people and kids touching everything. You couldn't stay more then a couple of feet from the next. I bought a golden doodle there about two years ago for $1500. I was looking to replace her because she died from Lyme disease. They wanted $6199 for a golden doodle pup that looked totally although and was very warm with a dry nose and didn't want to play but just lay down and rest. I was disgusted with what was going on and hiking of the prices. That's 4 times the price because they are taking advantage of. The Situation of COVID. People are suffering financially and they are just taking advantage stay away. Puppies weren't so healthy. My first dog was sick when I got her stomach problems but with care recovered fast and I figured I would give them another try. Wrong decision! Company's like this should be fined. read more

Given the many bad reviews I thought I would add my experience to balance things out. Overall my experience was excellent. The folks there could not have been nicer at helping me interact with a number of dogs (including quickly cleaning up accidents) until I found one that my son bonded with. Since we had never owned a pet, we proceeded slowly and Shake-a-Paw allowed us to put down a couple of deposits to hold the dog while we visited him several times to make sure he was right for us. He has been incredibly healthy since the day we took him home and the environment at Shake-a-Paw acclimated him well to being around people and other dogs. They even paid for my dog's first exam at a choice of vets, including one here in Manhattan, The only negative aspect about my experience was that they refused to allow the vet that comes there weekly to examine my dog before I took him home, even when I offered to pay for it. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend Shake-a-Paw Lynbrook, which I found to have better service, lower prices and a wider selection of dogs than the location in Hicksville. read more

We rescued a dog from this deplorable place. The dog had pneumonia a week after we had her. We took the dog to our vet and there was a 50/50 chance of survival. We were fortunate that the dog survived after having a $2500 vet bill. Shake a paw eventually reimburse us for the cost of the dog after we threatened a lawsuit. The salesperson specifically reads the clause that they are only responsible for the cost of the dog. Heard it is a regular occurrence with owners spending a lot of money on vets bills after rescuing (although you pay dearly) a dog. Our dog was from a puppy mill in Misouri. We looked up the "kennel" and they had numerous violations from the State of Missouri. read more

Told me my dog was AKC registered and I could show him. They charged me $140.00 for AKC registration. A lie. The fee was to register my dog to participate in AKC Canine Partners Program which allows him to participate in pet game competitions. I am not interested in this especially not for $140.00. Brought my dog home. He has kennel cough which is still not cleared up after two weeks of antibiotics and two visits to the vet. He also has parasites and I had to give medicine for this. Now have to wait three weeks to give another stool sample to see if he is parasite free. I am convinced the puppy is from a mill. Can't find the breeder or his supposed pedigree parents on the internet. If you want a pure breed, buy from a breeder. read more

I bought my precious puppy Daisy from here in August 2014. Her first night home she had a bad case of kennel cough which lasted for a few weeks. My husband and I would occasionally visit Shake a Paw to just look at the puppies but never to purchase. One day we went and fell in love with a maltepom puppy and purchased him. The employee had assured us that he was not from a puppy mill. After going home something just wasn't sitting right and I did some research on the breeder, Angela Shubert of Tennessee. There was an online investigation of her with a video that had her stating she had 600 dogs!!! How is this ok? How is this not a puppy mill?? The owner of Shake a Paw as well as the lying brainwashed employees should be ashamed of themselves. DO NOT SHOP HERE. The puppies may be cute but the truth about where they come from is not. Don't get me wrong, Louie our dog has brought us so much joy and we love our dog and don't regret getting him, however, after seeing what I saw online about the breeder i would never patronize this store ever again. This is NOT ok. I wouldn't even give this place one star but unfortunately Yelp makes you give at least one star to post the review. read more

We are completely horrified by our experience with Shake A Paw. My wife and I purchased a Rottweiler puppy for our daughter from this shop. The same evening that we brought the dog home, it started COUGHING AND HAD BLOODY STOOL. First thing in the morning we called the clinic that was listed as providing free care to puppies purchased from this shop. When we called (explaining that it is an emergency) we were told the earliest the clinic could take us was 5 hours from now. Within the hour the dog was bleeding ever heavier, and so we decided to bring it to another vet in our area. The vet confirmed that the PUPPY HAS A VIRUS (and it was not possible for it to get it over night). This means the STORE SOLD US A SICK dog. The vet wouldn't even release the puppy home, that's how sick it was. Upon contacting Shake A Paw, they said that they will NOT COVER THE MEDICAL EXPENSES that occurred, and that we should bring it back to the clinic they have a partnership with for a "trusted diagnosis". After 24 hours of stress and worry the clinic associated with Shake A Paw confirmed for us that the dog was in fact very sick and will not be released right away. We have since received a refund on the dog but HAVE NOT been reimbursed for the money we paid out of pocket trying to ensure the dog stays alive while it was clearly very sick. Shake A Paw should truly be ashamed for itself for running this type of business. Dogs are not some products that can be easily discarded, and this business banks on the fact that people will bring the sick puppies home and will not have the heart to bring them back to the store. It is absolutely disgusting that they can justify making a profit in this way. All of the reviews are true, DO NOT GET A PUPPY FROM THIS STORE! read more

Don't go here. They will trick you in to putting a deposit down on a puppy only to find out the deposit is non refundable. I love my dog but i would've much prefer to adopt. I had no choice but to purchase mine for over 3k but I wasn't going to let them just take my deposit for nothing. And all of their accessories are a major rip off. You can find everything in there at pet supplies plus at a much better price. And the Vet. choices for their early stage care sucks balls completely. I bought two puppies from the Hicksville location 5 years ago. Both are toy poodles and are very healthy, loving, amazing dogs. One of my babies started losing hair on her back. I've had several expensive tests done by a vet and they can't figure out what the problem is. It is not a thyroid problem nor allergies. She is otherwise extremely healthy - no scratching and the skin in fine. I just called Shake a Paw to ask them if they could contact the breeder and try to get me some information, as I assumed they have a relationship with the breeder. They said "none of our breeders are going to admit to selling dogs from a dog that is losing it's hair". Also, they said they don't keep records from 5 years ago so there is nothing they can do to help me. I am clearly not looking for money, only guidance on how I can help my dog. They should stand behind their breeders and help their customers when it might be genetic issue. Clearly they don't give a sh**. I will try to see if I can get in touch with the breeder. Beware - after you buy a puppy there, you are on your own. read more

I purchased my puppy in late June & it is now October . From within the week that I purchased Khloe, she had Kennel cough and we had her stool checked also because we had seen some blood in her stool. The lab unfortunately lost the stool sample and we were never able to get the results. Since then, my puppy has probably only had 2-3 weeks of full health and other than that has been on medicines and in & out of vets offices. I find it absolutely ridiculous that I spent over 2 grand at Shake-A-Paw & now spending over a grand in just medical treatment. Mind you, I'm 19 years of age and to be taking care of all these expenses is quite a handful for me. I am giving this establishment one star for a number of reasons. This evening my boyfriend and I traveled almost 2 hours to this establishment because we read great reviews and they had an array of many puppies. Every time i called to check in on the puppies they had got more new puppies and they were very nice over the phone and helpful.upon arrival we were greeted by a gentlemen who introduced himself as one of the managers he showed us around and we gave him an idea of the type of dog we were looking for in weight due to us having an apartment we had restrictions we saw a couple of dogs, one was a beautiful Australian shepard & then we saw an adorable corgi who we liked a lot and upon playing with the corgi we realized he had kennel cough and we simply didn't wanna wait for the dog to be treated to have to go all the way back. We decided to take a look at a soft coated wheaten terrier and fell head over heels in love with this dog. We were given a price of 4999.00 for this dog & on top of that taxes and a health package that comes with the dog all together came to 5600.00 my boyfriend and i tried to negotiate with this man and he would not budge at all. We were told they will NOT negotiate the price of the dog unless bought outright and even at that , they MAY come down 300-400 dollars if approved. Who has 6000? We loved this dog so much we were willing to walk out the door paying 5000.00 when that was almost double our top dollar. We were turned away and they let us walk out the door for a lousy 600.00 i am very let down and disappointed in this establishment for not even the tiniest bit of help to the customers. Puppies are so cute! Their prices are a little expensive but I guess it makes sense since they mostly have pure breed dogs.

NOT A FAN! Went to this shop ignoring reviews. It was about 40 mins before closing so as a disclaimer i can understand some of the rudeness, but coming from a customer/client based profession myself i know that you should keep a smile on to push the sale. Anyways the first young lady we asked questions to was extremely rude despite our true interest in buying a pup. The second young lady that came was very pleasant and answered our questions about cockapoos bringing me all the ones she had. I ended up falling in love with the last one a 5month old cutie. The first lady came back around after we played for about 15 mins and said if your going to buy we have no problem staying if not then we are closing. Okay no problem my husband and i thought let's leave a deposit ( which is non-refundable under any circumstance btw) and come back in the morning. I went home went to sleep and woke up with anxiety over the condition of so many pups and the fact that i had read so many bad reviews. Also i didnt like the fact that they didnt show any true concern over the type of person taking these little pups home and when i asked about the puppys family history they said they would discuss it when i bought the dog. It was sell sell sell. So i Decided in the morning to go to another small pet shop before returning. Long story short this second boutique , vanity in bayside made me feel so comfortable and asked me a zillion questions before even letting me hold there puppies. They were truly concerned about there pups. I ended up eating the 300$ deposit with shake a paw and getting an adorable well mannered well cared for puppy. I called back to shake a paw to let them know, very apologetically, and the response was.... "fine so im putting thw puupy back on the floor. BYE." And a complete hang up, not curious what happened or why i was no longer interested. Not sure if all the locations are like this but all i can say is just be careful do your research and good luck on your search. read more

I read several negative reviews about Shake A Paw However, I decided to go to the Lynbrook location and check things out for myself. The staff Tashi, Chris and Frank just to name a few were extremely friendly/professional. The store was clean and cages were always being maintained. The puppies looked healthy. Not one employee tried to push me into getting a dog. I went to the store a few times before I finally made a deposit on a 3 month old female Akita. I was able to visit my Akita anytime I wanted until I paid complete balance which was paid in one week. Each time I went everyone was courteous. When I took her home everything was fully disclosed/explained. I immediately made an appointment with Central Vet Associates. The vaccinations/office visit were covered. My dog was and is in good health other than having a parasite in stool which is no secret that its common among pet shop dogs just as kennel cough is. I'm not sure why reviews made such a big deal out of it. In any event the medication was covered and the treatment was successful. I had a great experience. I'm so happy I did not allow myself to be influenced by all the negative reviews. read more

Be very careful here....they will sell u a sick pet and say use their vet so that it will seem fine until the condition gets worse. Then you bring the pet to a different vet and get completely different diagnosis. Shady people that will do anything to get a pet out and money in their hands. A friend bought a yorkie there for $600. The dog was limping and they recommended their vet and all was good. So he bought the dog. Until the condition got worse and a neutral vet took an X-ray and confirmed a broken hip. Now they say they will return his money or take dog back. I'm thinking they will resell the dog as is again at a great markdown. They won't take responsibility or even pay for the surgery. I don't know what to say except " don't buy a pet here, EVER....." read more

Against my better judgement I purchased a 13 week old cavalier King Charles spaniel. This was the second dog I've purchased from them. My first dog, purchased 13 years ago, came home with severe worms and parasites which took THREE MONTHS to cure. This purchase, We were told he was on doxycycline for treatment of kennel cough. However, their vet evaluates their dogs weekly on Tuesdays only. Though I was promised that they would bring him to the vets office for an okay for sale they did not. Had they done so, perhaps that vet would have noticed that he actually had developed pneumonia. 2 1/2 days after the sale, He was admitted for IV antibiotics for 5 days. He was also diagnosed with worms and parasites. They refuse repeatedly to release his medical records to me. With a price tag of $3k, the vet deemed him not fit for sale, obviously, however at this point my 10 year old is already attached to him and, having lost two dogs in two months this fall, we are not prepared for her to withstand yet another loss. Now we face weeks of diligent home care and 4 different medications as well as nebulizing him three times daily. Dealing with a Breeder, at one third of the price would have been the wisest option. Beware of shake a paw!! read more

I called about the Saint Bernard puppy they had advertised on their Web site. I put a deposit down on him because I had a 2 hour drive and I wanted to be sure he would be there. when I got there Tito showed us to a room and someone got the puppy and took him in the back room and after a few minutes brought him to the room. When he was put on the floor, he did not move, he was not playful at all. I checked his ears, one was a little yucky. I checked his gums to make sure they were a healthy color and noticed his teeth were completely brown. Tito came over to ask how we were doing and I told him the puppies teeth were brown. He opened the door to look at the puppy and he ran under the bench, clearly afraid of this man. He left to get the Vet tech and while we waited for her I noticed the puppy had a lump on his elbow. I told the vet tech and she looked at the Puppy and went back to talk to Tito. They offered My deposit back. my son told them to have the puppy checked by the Vet and if he Is cleared to give us a call. The have not called and this puppy is still listed on their web site for sale. This is clearly a Very Sick puppy. Im sure they were not expecting me to check his teeth and not notice his elbow. I Just wanted to get him out of that abusive environment. But I do not know exactly what is wrong with him and Im sure It would have cost thousands to get him healthy. read more

Hello, I am a long time customer of Shake A Paw in Lynbrook as are my family and friends.I have recently read some disturbing and misinformed posts and feel as a multi pet owner who has dealt with this store regularly for over 10 years ,I need to help try to rectify some of this misinformation being passed on. I feel it would be a shame for a person or family to deny themselves a positive -life changing experience becoming a pet owner or repeat pet owner and getting to know the happiness and warmth a puupy adds to your family. I know of no other place then Shake a Paw in Lynbrook to start. Let me begin with their staff who I see as a a dedicated team of workers, I use the term Team because as they are all unique individuals they all have the same dedication for working together to ensure the best care for both the puppies, kittens , as well as their customers. Some misleading facts concerning staff, medical issues, financing and store policies are as follows: The staff at SAP do NOT work on any commission based salary, they have for years worked on creating and keeping a friendly, family atmosphere for their store as well as for their customers. Commissions tend to bring aggressivecompetitive sales, which is not what this store is about. From their "newly in training people to their "Veterans" to their topshelf Kennel menthey seem to all work together to ensure the store remains an above clean, healthy, and friendly envirement for their puppies as well as customers. Someone is always willing to help you 7 days a week! On to the medical side, and I write from personal experiences.SAP deals with hundreds of pups on a daily basis giving us as customers a choice to find the perfect matched puppy for our wants and or needs. So as there are many puppies in their newly redesigned opened pens , done for the comfort and cleanliness of the pups , and for the customer to experience hands on playing with the pups it's understandable puppies are more exposed to each other and can possibly pick up common pup colds, a worm or even a parasite, all very common in puppies regardless of where they are purchased from or even adopted from, These pups come in ,by law, at 8 to 10 weeks old, The staff does everything within their power to avoid a puppy having any issues. The pups are dewormed from the 1st day upon arrival but as with young children just starting school if 1 child has a cold it's a pretty good assumption many in that class will follow as it is with puppies 1 pup has a cold and the other pups can easily follow. SAP has a very reputableVet staff that not only visit the store weekly they have 24/7 access to Vets or the Vet hospital, the same care offered to you upon purchasing your puppy there. There is a time frame for certain med coverages , but SAPs time frame far exceeds the incubation period of any common puppy issue,as Kennel cough, worms , a parasite, so if the puppy breaks out with something after this time frame it is easy to say thepup didn't pick it up in the store so it wouldn't be covered . On the other hand anything within the time frame is dealt with in a most professional and speedy manner, me and my families experiences. But also remember people must stay in the Network! as with your own personal health insurance , Any Drs, office requires you sign a paper that you are responsible for whatever your ins doesn't cover, as well as if you go out of your net work you know you might be responsible for your entire bill , so it is the same with Vets, and puppies It's very unfair not to notify the store if for advice or documenting that you think your pup might be getting sick or a cold or just not acting right,,as explained at time of purchase [my family has purchased many pups here]it is always explained in full clear detail you must stay in the net work of SAP Vet care to be covered!Sap stand behind their pups and are there to help you 24/7 so take advantage!! I also saw confusion on the financing ,using words like scam artists etc Sap by no means receives any monetary benefits by you using the financing, It is an outside companybrought in by the demands of customers , I being one, Sap did this to offer more options, It is fully explained about the interest and terms , it is in writing to see , I read over the contracts and decided this option was not for mebut for those of you that do your issues should be with the finance company altho at the time of purchaseyou are made aware of the charges &terms you chose this option knowingly and the store cannot be faulted for your decision. It again was brought back in the store as a courtesy for their customers.I just feel it would be a shame that for the tens of thousands of puppies and families made happy by owning a SAP pup to the 10 to 20 disgruntled customers ,,you can't please everyone! ,,the odds are well in SAP favor, and if this letter helps just 1 person then I am glad I got involved. read more

The staff is rude and completely unprofessional. My friends and I usually come into this place to look at the pups and give them attention because we all love dogs and honesty who can afford a $2500-$5000 dog? I'd love to buy/adopt one but I'd rather save one from mill shelters and I cannot afford another dog at my home haha. I already have three living with my family and I! The staff looks at you like a hawk acting like you're going to steal a dog. This young girl in particular who has half blonde and brown hair acted so horrible and nasty to my friends and I. She stared at us continuously. My friend and I went over only to see this dog eating/licking poop on the ground. We were like "omg ! The dog is eating poop!" And we were laughing because we were very confused , but only to realize that it was sick because right after it started pooping out liquid. And the girl comes over and tells one of the employees that usually cleans the inside of the little pens to clean it and she just stands over by us. I say to my friend "aw he probably doesn't feel good" and the woman looks me straight in the eyes and says "he's fine." In such a nasty unprofessional tone. I ignored her and just kept talking to my friend because I was so angry and when I start going off, i can't stop. Plus there's no reason to be nasty back , don't want to stoop to her level but If you work at a pet store and think that a dog licking and eating shit and shitting out liquid afterwards is "fine" then you need to get a new job and never get a dog because that's horrible judgement. Anyways, we still looked around at the dogs while she was staring at us the whole time. Then there's this door with a little window on it and there's dogs next to it in a cage (we were petting the other dogs , we weren't just over there for nothing) and the same friend that was with me says "omg look there's dogs in there too! Aww!" And the woman comes over again and says "do you guys need any help" in a nasty tone once again and my friend says "no thank you we're good" I mean we're not gonna get nasty but cmon , who do you think you are? No one is doing any harm by looking at pups and giving them attention. Also when we went inside ALL of the dogs were asleep and most likely drugged. Some of their eyes were rolled to the back of their heads. It was horrible. The staff is disgusting and stares at you and makes you uncomfortable. My parents even adopted a dog from there years ago when I was younger and we ended up putting the poor thing down because it was too violent. Nobody would take him in because of his violent tendencies. Even from the day we got him, you couldn't go near him when he was eating or drinking. He would continuously growl and had many problems. I don't know what they do to those poor things, but if you can , save those dogs! I wish I had the money and a big place to adopt all of those pups. I left feeling angry and uncomfortable. It's horrible how they treat the dogs and the people that walk in. read more

I bought my first dog from Marc at Shake A Paw in Lynbrook many years ago.... And by the time he was 4 months old, he won his first ribbon in the show ring. Now I am not saying that Shake A Paw dogs are all show quality, but the fact is, they are not being sold as show quality. My Akita passed away at the ripe old age of 14.... And was a great dog since day 1. Next I bought my Golden Retriever from him a few years ago. He was not show quality... but he was always healthy and beautiful. I have read other reviews.... "My dog was sick....." etc. So here is the kicker.... I bought my female from the top breeder in the United States; knowing I wanted to breed her, and I paid ten grand for her. Her parents were national champions, so I figured she had to be worth the money. There were four out of eight pups left in the liter when I chose her at three weeks old. I brought her home at 10 weeks. By twelve weeks I was back at the vet, paying a ton of money. When I contacted the breeder, they refused to cover anything. They said she is mine now, therefore my responsibility. Five years ago when my sister wanted a dog for my niece and nephews, I went back to Marc to get them one. Now granted, I am a professional trainer and I also do dog boarding in my home, and I trained her and worked with her, but she is now a certified TDI dog (Therapy Dogs International) and works as a service dog for one of my nephews who is special needs. I highly recommend them over at Shake A Paw. The place is always clean, and the staff cares about the dogs and their customers. Do pups get sick? Absolutely! Especially when people think the place is a petting zoo to entertain their kids, and want to take out every pup just to play. Would a human baby fare so well if people constantly woke it up from a dead sleep just to play? I think not. Sorry... rant over. Just frustrates me when I go to the store for supplies or whatever, and see it going on... and those are the same people who come online and want to bash the store with bad reviews. I have never had anything but positive interactions with the staff at the store, and therefore, will continue to recommend them to my clients, family and friends. read more

I bought my adorable little girl here 2 years ago. She's a maltese/yorkie mix. She hands down is the best dog I've ever had. The staff here was great, super friendly super helpful. This place has a bad wrap "Oh puppy mill this, puppy mill that" honestly, who is to say that buying a dog direct from the breeder is any better???!? I know someone who bought a dog from here 16 years ago....he's still alive and well. I know people who have had breeders pure breds that passed at 4, 2, and 5. So you tell me what is really worse. Just like humans, something can happy with your puppy/dog/cat. The great thing about this place, (both locations because my parents just purchased a cute little guy from here in October) is the booths, you can interact with the puppy and get a sense of the personality before you make the commitment to him/her. The cages are clean, the animals look happy and from my experience have been healthy as well. Of course, puppies just like babies have weak immune systems, and it doesn't take much for them to get sick... IT'S COMMON SENSE...they give you the immunization records, and tell you to have a follow up exam almost immediately with a vet of your choice, or one of there own. I would reccomend Shake A Paw 1000000 times over, infact I gave the information to someone in the Boston area, who might to drive down and look for a puppy. The micro-chipping is a great tool, and it's nice that all of the dogs here are mircochipped, registered with the AKC, and lostmypet.com. Ignore these people who say don't go there, because THEY had a bad experience, I've gotten 2 dogs from there and would do it again and again and again. read more

I very often go into Shake A Paw in Lynbrook because they carry a brand of food that is not offered in other pet stores. While there I'm compelled to visit with the puppies being the dog lover that I am. This past Sunday I had a terrible experience and have not been able to "shake" the picture in my head of a 5 1/2 month old Wheaten terriers face smashed against a glass window of a kennel that with glass so high you couldnt even touch the dog. I asked to have him taken out and the sales person was eager to let me know his price had been reduced. She told me she would like to freshen him up first before viewing him. This dog smelled like perfume who knows when it was last properly bathed and was so lathargic. Spending MONTHS in this pen is JUST CRUEL!!! I stayed with him for awhile to give him human touch and finally got him to respond. What was more overwhelming was the aburd amount of animals in the store-there had to be well over 100 puppies. The smell of feces towards the back of the shop was so profuse it made me gag. Why have things gotten this way and why is there no recourse to control this horrible environment. If I go another sleepness night thinking of this poor puppy getting older and less saleable for them I'm considering making and offer for him and donating this pedigree to North Shore Animal League for adoption. I only wish I was capable of having another dog just not to let this one be mentally abused by the money grubing business Shake A Paw is. read more

I've had many dogs and recently mine passed away suddenly. After making the decision to get a puppy, I went to many stores to look around. Shake a Paw in Lynbrook was the best experience I've ever had. We were helped by multiple people including managers. They all treated us as a friend or family member. They all took their time with us and were so helpful. When it came time to take my new little one home, they brought her out wrapped in a baby blanket with a bow around her neck. They ring a bell for everyone to see a puppy is going home. Everyone was cheering and clapping. I thought about the dog I just lost and how much I needed this puppy and I started to cry. The girl who had been helping us hugged me and walked me out to the car to hold the door for us. They all asked us to come back and visit. My boyfriend is looking for a dog as well. They have me on file to call and when I checked back with them, they remembered me. What an all around great experience. I got love from strangers that I truly needed for this transition from mourning my dog to loving a new puppy. Just took her to her first vet visit and got the all clear that she is doing well. So happy I went to Shake a Paw in Lynbrook. read more

We have been doing business with shake a paw in lynbrook, NY for over 3 years. We have gotten 3 puppies and have been extremely satisfied. We did research and in no way are they a puppy mill type of operation. The sales staff cares and love each puppy they have and care for them like they are their own. They have always been great with us during the purchase process as we travel 4 1/2 hours to get puppies. They sell a lot of puppies and do not have them in store long. They supply great vet checks and they also gave us training on care of puppies each time and they have all the supplies right in store that you would need to get started with new puppy. The staff is very educated about each breed they sell and if they don't know answer they research and get correct information for you. There is 1 salesman there that has helped us several times , Thomas, and he is just super at what he does , he has knowledge, passion for puppies and has gone above and beyond for us each time we purchased a puppy. I will always highly recommend Shake a paw -LYNBROOK to anyone looking to purchase a puppy of any breed. They are Great! Susan H read more

~I have never had a dog before, and went in to see the puppies in the Lynbrook store. I immediately fell in love with a chocolate poodle, about 3 months old. They gave me a a few breaks on the original price & I put the puppy on hold for $200. In 2 weeks I picked the puppy up ... she was bathed and looking as energetic & healthy as I had seen her. They gave me papers, and said she most likely will have kennel cough & possibly parasites. I took her to my vet for an exam, and he said she appeared very healthy & when tested, she did have parasites. The parasites were cleared up by the second dose of antibiotics. She NEVER came down with kennel cough. My puppy is now 9 months old and the JOY of my life. She is good tempered, absolutely funny, and very healthy & energetic !!! The only thing I did not like about Shake A Paw was the PUSH to sell you a puppy. However, they did take their time to work with me, and constantly allowed me to visit with her, and worked with me on a price. My experience in total was very very very good !!! read more

We went to this place 3times before we actually took one home. The place always has cute new little puppies whenever we come back. The last time was when we finally decided to get one. He was the biggest puppy in the entire store tho he was ony 3mos old. But he was the most adorable one. I thought the price we got him for was pretty reasonable for a mixed pup. We asked to see him and the lady actully left us with him for a while so we can olay and get to know him. We didnt feel any pressure at all. Cathy, the lady who we talked to was very nice and new the puppy a lot so we had a lot of info about him to take home. They bathed him before we left and explained all that we needed to know, except for one little thing. They have a vet that we dont have to pay for when we visit. They didnt explain that if we visit a different one the contract would be voided. So we had to pay for it when we went to visit. Overall, we give this place 5stars read more

I am a big fan of this store. About a year ago my wife and I purchased a Teddy Bear (Shih Tzu/ Bichon Frise) puppy from the store. He has got to be one of the best dogs I have ever owned. His name is Nails and he was definitely the cutest puppy in the store. Once we saw him dancing around in the pen my wife and I new he was the one. We were given some private time in a room to get to know him. The woman that helped us ( I think her name was Kathleen?) answered a bunch of questions we had about the breed and health guarantees. She gave us some pointers on housebreaking that proved to be very useful as well. He is happy and healthy and we wouldn't give him up for the world. We paid a bit more then we originally had budgeted but it was money well spent. I have recommended the store to my coworkers and friends and will continue to do so. read more

Purchased a toy poodle here who had to be euthanized by their veterinarian because she had a severe case of parvovirus and was not responding to medical treatment. The store offered me a "replacement" puppy who ended up passing away at a very young age from a congenital heart defect. I've contacted the store via Facebook, but they have deleted my comments. I also reached out through email and they will not provide any information...they just told me to come to the store and purchase another dog. Horrendous customer service, but more importantly lack of concern for the well being of the dogs being sold. The vet told me that the parvo could have been very easily prevented or at the very least, treated immediately which would have likely saved its life...the staff just kept telling me she was just very shy and calm. read more

My family has been purchasing puppies from this establishment since it's opening, and from it's ownership in the many years before that. We have always had outstanding, high quality, "that's a great-looking dog" type of dogs. I and the rest of my extended family will undoubtedly continue to purchase dogs from this business in the future. For those looking for an honest review of Shake A Paw, beware of the numerous negative reviews that tend to focus on "puppy mills" and other examples of poor quality puppies, as they are nothing more than conterfeit statements provided by animal activists now using internet feedback blogs as a means of carrying out their "war" on the pet industry. This is a great business, with a great product that has and will continue to keep families happy for years and years to come. read more

I took my son to visit Shake A Paw last weekend as we were thinking of getting a new puppy now that summer is over. As we entered the store we were pleasantly surprised that there was no smell whatsoever and the place was spotless. My son instantly feel in love with a Mini-Goldendoodle, after some negotiating with Kristin we decided to take home Charlie. So far he has been perfect and is almost housebroken already. Our experience with Shake A Paw was great and I have already recommended them to a few friends. I would like to know why my review is not posted on this site... It seems as though only negative reviews are showing and the positive reviews disappear. I see a lot of the nice reviews are hidden on another page. Doesn't seem right to me.... read more

stop purchasing your puppies from places like this. plus they lie and refer you to whatever vet, saying "the vet is covered for a month" but when you go to the vet the vet HAS NO IDEA WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. the initial first visit should be free at whichever vet they refer you to.. nothing else is, or should be, covered. the puppies are always sneezing, coughing, have intestinal parasites.. i can understand all that, when they're all together all day if one has it they all will but this place sells puppies with congenital illnesses that SHOULD NOT BE SOLD. and they LIE TO YOU. stop stop stop filling their wallets!!!! read more

I fell in love when I went into this pet store. The puppies were gorgeous!! The sales people were so friendly, kind, and attentive. " That lasts as long as your in the store". the puppies are a bit over priced. Some of the information given is very misleading as well. That did not stop me from purchasing my little baby. My only advice is to ask as many questions as possible or you will walk out of there with half the facts, and get attitude over the phone depending on who answers. I will not go back there for my second pet. Oh my baby had ear mites and a cough. Good luck!! read more

Don't get a dog here. I love my puppy, but he came home with Kennel Cough and Giardia. I was hesitant to buy a dog from a pet store instead of a breeder or a shelter and now I wish I had followed my instincts. The people at the store are nice and friendly, but these are not quality dogs and they are not being properly cared for. Save your money and buy from a breeder or adopt. I have already paid $100 in bills not covered by their 'free vet' in the four days I have had him. If you really want a puppy, go somewhere that they really care about the dogs! read more

We bought a puppy for 2000. The dog had kennel cough now has upper and lower respiratory infections. DO NOT BUY YOUR DOG THERE. THEY NEED TO BE CLOSED. ITS A TRAVESTY. Don't be fooled by the cute puppies They want your money and call your own vet crazy if you don't use their vet. Why would anyone use a vet they pay. The dogs are sick to begin with. I got my first puppy from Shake A Paw. I was helped by Edwin C who was very helpful and friendly. He took his time while I got acquainted with my new pup.
