Got my awesome yellow lab here 8 years ago. She's healthy. She's amazing. My kids adore her. This place took great care of us and answered all of our questions. Thank you shake a paw!!!!

Good place to get a pet, I got him a few days ago and he is healthy, he only vomited once but he stopped vomiting, recommend this pet store staff is very helpful, healthy after 5 months of having him

If I could give this review no star I would. I came in looking to buy a dog. I asked if I was able to play with one of the dogs. After waiting for about 15 minutes I was denied service. Either the owner or the manager came up to me and said it wasn't a petting zoo. There were multiple people in there playing with dogs but I was denied. Even though there were others there playing with multiple dogs at once. Most of the dogs looked malnourished and had poop all over them. The place itself is dirty and they have horrible customer service. I would NEVER go back again.

I can't even put into words how much hatred I have for this place. It's been over a week and a half of purchasing my dog Dexter (the Doberman) from shakeapaw. In one of my previous reviews for shakeapaw I mentioned all of the issues I had with purchasing Dexter ( please read the other review ). I do not recommend buying anything from here! My current dog is now fighting a upper respiratory infection due to the poor treatment shakeapaw provided for Dexter, when bringing Dexter home and keeping him isolated.. my current dog Benji still got sick. I'm disgusted with this place. I feel so bad for both of my babies. Both dogs are now on antibiotics but still this is insane.. they need to get shut down!!!

I have waited over a year to tell my story about my dog I purchased from this location. Backstory: bf and I wanted a dog. We wanted a lab but living in an apartment at the time we knew a 90lb lab wouldn't be fair for her. We found the breed "beagador." It's a beagle and lab mix, so lab personality with a beagle size. This mix isn't very common and during the first surge of Covid it was already impossible to find puppies, let alone this specific breed. My friend told me about shakeapaw. I knew a puppy store wasn't the way to go but I looked at the website anyway. When I looked they had a fawn colored female beagador. I was shocked. It was exactly what we were looking for. We went to look and fell in love. (This backstory is for the ppl who say if you get a puppy from a store, you're in idiot). We take her home. 3 days in she is lethargic and throwing up, not eating. To the hospital we go. She has kennel cough and parvovirus. She survives! We call her our miracle baby. Well well well...... 4 weeks later she is lame (limping) on her back right leg. We take her back because she's limping, and now crying and screaming. Not a single vet can figure it out. Growing pains? We change her food and they supply anti-inflammatories. Pain continues. Back to hospital. Tramadol/muscle relaxers on board. No pain is managed. She is hospitalized for IV pain medication. We get her back, she's somewhat better with a fentanyl patch. Then it starts all over again in less than 24 hours. We drive back to the hospital. One vet mentions meningitis. They hospitalize her. They run a PCR panel from the other hospitalizations. It comes back positive for distemper virus. Her myoclonus (leg jerking and lameness) is not muscular, it's neurological. Distemper is incurable, fatal, and multi systemic. She was never vaccinated, shakeapaw lied. We took her to one of the best neurologists on Long Island. MRI and spinal taps done. Started on prednisone. She no longer has pain. A lot more occurred that for all intents and purposes I'll save because this would be a novel. Just know after prednisone is got mange, TWICE. We took her to a family vet who said he hasn't seen distemper since his training in Mexico. Please make sure your pets are vaccinated!! She has two bad back legs for the rest of her life, but she does just fine. She's a fighter and our life. I like to believe we saved her from that horrible store and there is a reason why I ever checked their website in the first place. I will say after I called shakeapaw and I supplied proof of vet bills they ripped up the contract and we got her for free. That was after I told then I'd go to the media and sought legal counsel. But that's not really gonna help anyone because of "buyer beware" laws. So PLEASE, buyer beware. We went through the roughest summer of our lives and that's not even saying what our girl Luna went through. Yelp isn't letting me post any pictures. I don't know why.

We walked by this place recently by accident and as a dog owner, we decided to go in and play with some pups. They simply have too many dogs. They had 4-5 dogs in each of these tight squared spaces. Easily over 60-70 pups. A lot of them looked depressed. I can definitely see how all these reviews about the dogs being sick easily being true. read more

Bought my Dogue De Bordeaux from the Lynbrook store back in 2014. I don't care for the staff but the puppies are beautiful. I know I paid a lot for my pup - $2600 but I don't regret it one bit. He's in excellent health for his breed. I received a his papers and lineage which is champion bloodline and he shows it. I get stopped by people all the time on the street asking me about him and if I'll be breeding him. He's turning 4 and has the best temperament and no medical issues at all. I didn't appreciate the pushy sales people but I have a lot of experience with dogs and different breeds and I got more than what I could ever ask for with my pup. Thats why I'm giving 5 stars. read more

They purchase from Mills where puppies are massed produced without care of parents or pups menal or physical health. They charge outragous amounts for poorly breed animals that are emotionally stunted in most cases and taken from the parents too young. If you purchase a pup from a place like this and have problems blame yourself... people who continue to support the inhumain conditions and treatment of dogs in puppy mills are the reason they exist. DO YOUR HOMEWORK... an animal is NOT a WHIM purchase. I did not purchase from this store, would never so much as spend a dime in it for anything. I have an 8 mth old pup the owners surrendered to our rescue after he was mislead about just about everything and only had the pup not even 2 mths when he realised he was in over his head and both he and the pup needed help. Money is all this business cares about... not the pups and certainly not the customer. Don't delude yourself into thinking they care. read more

Don't buy from this place just don't my moms friend bought a dog from there and within a week it died and then the sell sick dogs from 1000 dollars and I'm like why sell sick dogs and not give every dog a checkup on there health to make sure there healthy and then they over price the dog the first week I went there was a dog I was in love with it was two months old but it was 4 thousand dollars and then I check then next week they upper the price to 5 thousand dollars after I asked the girl questions she was very rude and thought I was dumb and saying oh these are living creatures I'm like i know there living creatures but they probably don't since they sell animals that need medical care and help and they just upper the price as the worse excuse they claim they upper the price because of the pandemic that's just wrong that's the dumbest excuse the pandemic is really bad but you don't have to upper the dog over 5k..- read more

Walked out with kennel cough myself lol this store is joke, about 7-8 dogs cramped in a space only meant for 3. Prices are a rip off, and all the dogs look dead or uninterested, really sad. I thought my local pet shop was bad but this store takes the cake, its terrible. Buy anywhere BUT here. read more

They sold me a sick pup. The pup passed away within 24 hours of purchase and two doctors both told me that he had been sick for a vey long time. They both confirmed that his passing was a 100 percent the pet stores fault. I am convinced they knew he was sick and they target first time pet buyers. When getting my full refund since it was obviously their fault, the staff was rude and heartless. Not one apology. That poor little pup was suffering and who knows how many others are suffering as we speak. Please do your research before finding a pet. Adopt!! Or if you must, buy from a reputable breeder who treat their animals the way they should be treated. With love. I wish I did my research because come to find out this place is actually known for selling sick puppies. This place absolutely needs to be shut down as well as all their other locations or any other facilities that do this!! This is inhumane! read more

We bought our pup at Shake A Paw and the buying experience was pretty good. We were assured that the dog was not from a puppy mill and were shown photos of the parents. Shortly after we got home we noticed that he would have coughing spasms which lasted for about one minute. I consulted with the vet at Sunrise Animal Hospital (recommended by the store) and was told that it was a reaction to food. The dog still has the cough but it is not frequent. I learnt about the kennel cough after watching Animal Planet and decided to check the reviews the store. It seems to be a pattern. I am writing this review to add to the call for legal closure of "puppy mills" and the strict regulation of dog reproduction. I am glad I "rescued" our dog and now he has a great home. read more

Please don't come here if you are a dog lover like me. I bought a male poodle from them for 2200 at 4 months old ( way over priced) but I didn't know any better when I first went in here a few months ago. He is an amazing dog but this place doesn't care for the animals. The dogs are sleeping all day long and don't care to jump and play with people that come around in search for a dog. I watched a worker yank the back legs of a dog who was clearly scared of him out of one of the cages, he brought the dog to the back then put him back 2 minutes later. Again I wonder what happens in the back that makes the dogs hate the workers so much, and why are all the dogs always asleep?? When also at another cage, I saw a tiny yorkie getting bitten and stomped on and he wasn't playing back. He was shaking when I picked him up and was so scared, I asked a worker to move him to a younger smaller section and they didn't. They put him right back and the dogs continued to do the same thing. Also if you do so happen go to this place feel the dogs. They're so skinny you can see the ribs of some short haired dogs. I was in here again to look for another dog to buy but couldn't stand to look at the abuse anymore. Go 20 minutes down the road to vanity puppy. The owner cares for the dogs and has a huge selection. Don't buy a dog from here, they're not taken care of well. read more

Where do I begin? I contacted shake a paw interested in an animal and they told me that for the price I would have to come in. So I went in and they wouldn't tell me the price until I played with the puppy. I see their tactic but they cannot fool me. I was in love with the dog but def not the price. $2,400 for a jack Russell terrier. That's absurd. There are so many puppies who could go into a loving home if they weren't all about money. I've seen prices like 800 but 2,400 is something new. In the condition that they are in I pray they all survive read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This is a puppy mill! We went here to look for a puppy. They had a "special" buy three dogs get one free. Who does that. There were at least 5 dogs to a cage, feces everywhere. I walked by one crate and there was this one puppy in the corner under the water bottle being stepped on by the other puppies in the cage. I reached in to pet him he didn't respond or move. I called a staff member over to bring it to their attention and they said he was just being lazy. I walked around for a little more and came back to check on him and he was still there being stepped on. A well dog no matter how tired will move or at least react when being stepped on. I again asked another staff member about the dog and this time asked him to pull the puppy out. They again tried to tell me he just ate and was tired (all the other puppies in the cage were running around) I was petting him trying to give him as much love as possible and asked to hold him. The employee told me I couldn't and he had to put the puppy back in the cage because he was in the middle of a sale. And dropped the puppy back in, again the puppy didn't move. At that point I had to leave because it was just so heart breaking. Btw they also offer financing. In my mind if you don't have enough money to purchase an animal you certainly don't have the means to take care of it. Please do not shop here!!!!! read more

All Shake a Paw's sell sick dogs. Extremely cheap puppies at high mark up. Avoid this place at all costs. They put up a really good front with nice stores and unusally convincing employees. However, I have bought two dogs from there both were extremely sick and needed hospital visits and extended stays to get rid of pneumonia, dysteria, and yeast in their ears read more

This place absolutely sucks!!!!! I can't say that enough! We've had Pebbles for about 3 months and I have spent most of that time tending to her medical needs (running to the vet once or twice a week, feeding her countless amounts of medications which is to say the least a trying experience, not to mention all the added expenses). Honestly, all that "work" wouldn't bother me so much if she wasn't just as sick now as she was when we got her. Which leads me to another issue I have with this company, their supposed "insurance" policy, is nothing but another sham. In the contract, they claim to pay for a $1000 of medical expenses in the first year. Most would think, what a great pet store, but that's definitely not the case. These people are attempting to cover their asses because they know they are selling you sick dogs, and they pretty much force you to go an affiliate of theirs, Sunrise Animal Hospital, which sucks just as much as they do. The receptionists are rude, they're EXTREMELY disorganized, and they talk you into thinking your dog is fine most probably to avoid giving you medications that Shake a Paw doesn't want to pay for. Pebbles, now has gastritis, a continuing upper respiratory infection that has gotten so bad, because she has had it for so long, that it has started doing serious damage to her lungs and trachea. DO NOT BUY A PUPPY THERE! Do yourself a favor, and go to a breeder! read more

Unprofessional. My boyfriend and I were interested in a dog and asked to see it. We were told that if we "aren't leaving with it today, we cannot play with it". How do you know if you are going to adopt a dog if you cant spend time with it? Another time, we asked to see one of the adult dogs and a worker gave us a hard time saying that they dont like to take them out. read more

I bought my golden doodle mini Duncan from the lynbrook location despite the terrible reviews and rumors. First off, i will say he did develop a cough and was found to have giardia; that being said, they pay for the first vet visit and the medication for the cough and parasites. I expected this to happen so i wasnt disappointed- both were gone within 2 weeks. 2 months later, Duncs is one of the cutest, smartest, and well-behaved pups ive ever owned. Yes that may be due to his breed, but in regards to the pet shop he has no deficits and is a fully healthy pup. Yes he was expensive and yes he was worth it. The place was clean and the process was fast. Remember- some breeds are prone to certain health problems (ex: bulldog, french bulldog, sharpei) so do your research. I have two standard size doodles at home (one rescue and one from a breeder in Syracuse) and i highly recommend both golden and labradoodles... Zero health problems after having them for 7 years now. Hope this helps!! read more

Do not buy a dog from this store. These people do not care about these poor puppies, i bought a puppy a while ago from this store and the poor dog was so sick, i had to take her to the hospital about 2 times within a week of having her, she stayed in the hospital for about 2 days and when i came back home she was still very sick so they told me to take her immediately the following day. She had something wrong with her respiratory system. The hospital bill ended up being about $3,000 but shake a paw's services did cover it. The dogs here are very expensive and most are probably sick. I left a $200 deposit when i bought her and never got it back. I recommend you adopt a dog if you are looking for one, its much cheaper, most dogs are spayed/neutered already and they help you find the right dog for you. read more

My husband and I wanted to get our daughter a puppy so we came across Shake A Paw and a soon as we walked in of course we got sucked in. We ended up purchasing a 2 month old Yorkie Poo, three days after we got him he started coughing so we brought him to our vet and found out that he had the beginning of pneumonia. Our vet said it was due to him having untreated kennel cough. Our vet suggested bringing him back for a refund because he was only 2lbs and he didn't know if he would be able to overcome the pneumonia because he was so little, but we were already so in love with this little 2lb puppy that we couldn't even think about bringing him back. Thirteen hundred dollars later after nebulizing him at home 4 times a day and giving him 2 antibiotics for 2 months he finally got better.....and that was only because he never lost his appetite. He is just turned 1 year old this month and he is the cutest thing ever but my heart broke for him every minute of those first two months we had him. Shake A Paw didn't even want to hear anything about our situation especially because we took him to our family vet and not the vet's they recommended. I would NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone!!! Thinking back, I see why the sales rep got annoyed when we were asking questions about where they get their puppies from and how we would go about contacting the breeders. read more

I bought two dogs from shake a paw and both had serious inherited health issues. We love them and have had them over ten years but they're special needs dogs and very expensive to medicate. One has epilepsy, a condition that usually does not manifest in dogs from good breeders and the other has diabetes also not usually seen in well bred dogs. I strongly suspect they get their dogs from puppy mills. I hope I'm wrong since puppy mills are horrific places for animals but I would never recommend buying from them now. read more

Shake A Paw, 1 Atlantic Avenue, Lynbrook, NY is the best! We have bought two poodles, a teacup maltese and a bulldog from here over the past 11 years. Their very attentive to the health of all their dogs and will not let you take the dog home until their confident that they are good to go. I have nothing but good things to say about this pet store. We have recommended multiple friends to go here and get their pups and they couldn't be happier. I would never buy a pup from any place else. The only reason I'm okay giving this place 1 star is because they're the reason I found my dog. HOWEVER, what my boyfriend and I were not prepared for was for them to give us a dog that not only had kennel cough and a worm but to send us to the laziest and most ignorant veterinarian at Sunrise Animal Hospital. Not only did this vet tell me my dog was completely healthy but they did a "stool sample test" for any parasites that came back "negative." I had a bad feeling about the vet and the facility (it was absolutely disgusting) to begin with but when we returned home my puppy didn't seem right at all. I had a horrible itch that something was wrong, even though I was told he was healthy, and brought him to a great vet in Garden City who could tell just by looking at my puppy that he had kennel cough AND a parasite called Giardia. What I was also told at this vet was that from looking at my puppy's vaccination history that he should have been continued to be treated for the parasite/kennel cough which Shake-A-Paw's vet overlooked as well as the vet at Sunrise. When we first came to this pet store, the people were nothing but nice and welcoming and my boyfriend and I defended buying our dog from a puppy store because it seemed reliable and trustworthy. However, after dealing with this for the past week and seeing how much pain my puppy is in, I am fed up. My puppy is now being treated for pneumonia at an emergency hospital for the next week. The hospital I was told to send him to by my reliable veterinarian can not be "covered by Shake-A-Paw" and so my boyfriend and I were forced to send him to another hospital they will "only" cover the medical bills for. At this point I am praying this hospital is reliable and that trusting this place one last time won't come back to bite us in the ass or else it is my puppy that will have deal with the consequences of this store's irresponsibility and lack of professionalism. read more

My husband and I just had a baby girl a few months ago and were looking to expand our family with another dog. We went in and had a million questions about a few breeds, about child friendly breeds, and about different enegry levels that we want (we want a low energy this time around) - all of our questions were answered professionally. While we didnt walk out with a dog this weekend, we do plan to go back during the February holidays and get our pup then so we can train it while we're home. Purchased our chow from here and am not happy with the experience. We have used other pet stores before and even other shake a paws but this was different. We love our puppy and would never bring her back but since bringing her home she has had medical issues. She came to us with fleas and a parasite. Apparently she was being treated for the parasite at the store but we were never told that information. Our vet saw the medication noted in her paperwork but said it was not being given correctly. She still has the parasite and we are now on our second round of meds. As for the fleas, our vet found them after she was home with us for only a few days. The amount she had and the number of older bites indicate that she had them before she came to us. We also found out that she has entropia which is a genetic defect having to do with her eyelids. Currently she has ulcers in one eye due to this. She will require surgery for this condition which costs over two thousand dollars. Reputable breeders will not breed dogs with this condition. We were told that the owner goes out to the farms himself and picks out dogs but I'm sure that is crap! We were told a vet checked our puppy out a few times a week. Well he missed fleas and a serious eye condition and did not medicate her correctly for the parasite. Do not buy your pets from here even my vet says it's the worst store. I've learned my lesson but hope that someone reads this and knows what they are getting into. read more

TERRIBLE customer service, i was completely turned off from purchasing a puppy from this establishment due to this reason. We were lied to and told all the rooms were full when we saw a room that was open right in front of us. Then once a room opened up, we were told that the puppy we were interested in was too young to be taken into a room. Not sure if that was the truth since no one mentioned that when we were told there "wasn't an open room". These poor animals must also have to be drugged. I used to work at a puppy store and all of our dogs would immediately wake up the second someone went to look or touch them. These poor little creatures do not budge at ALL when they are asleep. I had to pet and lightly shake the puppy I was interested in for 5 minutes before she actually woke up and moved around. This place sucks ! No other words to describe this store that sells sick inbred puppy mill dogs and plays it off like they're some kind of high end puppy.. Yeah okay!!!! The sales people or whatever you want to call the people that work their are pushy and rude and ate uneducated about dogs in general! The manager mark ( real gem) needs to find a new career ! For someone who works at a puppy store you would think he would have some consideration when your telling them your puppy is under a year and needs surgery, and will never walk normal! Hello, I am a long time customer of Shake A Paw in Lynbrook as are my family and friends.I have recently read some disturbing and misinformed posts and feel as a multi pet owner who has dealt with this store regularly for over 10 years ,I need to help try to rectify some of this misinformation being passed on. I feel it would be a shame for a person or family to deny themselves a positive -life changing experience becoming a pet owner or repeat pet owner and getting to know the happiness and warmth a puupy adds to your family. I know of no other place then Shake a Paw in Lynbrook to start. Let me begin with their staff who I see as a a dedicated team of workers, I use the term Team because as they are all unique individuals they all have the same dedication for working together to ensure the best care for both the puppies, kittens , as well as their customers. Some misleading facts concerning staff, medical issues, financing and store policies are as follows: The staff at SAP do NOT work on any commission based salary, they have for years worked on creating and keeping a friendly, family atmosphere for their store as well as for their customers. Commissions tend to bring aggressivecompetitive sales, which is not what this store is about. From their "newly in training people to their "Veterans" to their topshelf Kennel menthey seem to all work together to ensure the store remains an above clean, healthy, and friendly envirement for their puppies as well as customers. Someone is always willing to help you 7 days a week! On to the medical side, and I write from personal experiences.SAP deals with hundreds of pups on a daily basis giving us as customers a choice to find the perfect matched puppy for our wants and or needs. So as there are many puppies in their newly redesigned opened pens , done for the comfort and cleanliness of the pups , and for the customer to experience hands on playing with the pups it's understandable puppies are more exposed to each other and can possibly pick up common pup colds, a worm or even a parasite, all very common in puppies regardless of where they are purchased from or even adopted from, These pups come in ,by law, at 8 to 10 weeks old, The staff does everything within their power to avoid a puppy having any issues. The pups are dewormed from the 1st day upon arrival but as with young children just starting school if 1 child has a cold it's a pretty good assumption many in that class will follow as it is with puppies 1 pup has a cold and the other pups can easily follow. SAP has a very reputableVet staff that not only visit the store weekly they have 24/7 access to Vets or the Vet hospital, the same care offered to you upon purchasing your puppy there. There is a time frame for certain med coverages , but SAPs time frame far exceeds the incubation period of any common puppy issue,as Kennel cough, worms , a parasite, so if the puppy breaks out with something after this time frame it is easy to say thepup didn't pick it up in the store so it wouldn't be covered . On the other hand anything within the time frame is dealt with in a most professional and speedy manner, me and my families experiences. But also remember people must stay in the Network! as with your own personal health insurance , Any Drs, office requires you sign a paper that you are responsible for whatever your ins doesn't cover, as well as if you go out of your net work you know you might be responsible for your entire bill , so it is the same with Vets, and puppies It's very unfair not to notify the store if for advice or documenting that you think your pup might be getting sick or a cold or just not acting right,,as explained at time of purchase [my family has purchased many pups here]it is always explained in full clear detail you must stay in the net work of SAP Vet care to be covered!Sap stand behind their pups and are there to help you 24/7 so take advantage!! I also saw confusion on the financing ,using words like scam artists etc Sap by no means receives any monetary benefits by you using the financing, It is an outside companybrought in by the demands of customers , I being one, Sap did this to offer more options, It is fully explained about the interest and terms , it is in writing to see , I read over the contracts and decided this option was not for mebut for those of you that do your issues should be with the finance company altho at the time of purchaseyou are made aware of the charges &terms you chose this option knowingly and the store cannot be faulted for your decision. It again was brought back in the store as a courtesy for their customers.I just feel it would be a shame that for the tens of thousands of puppies and families made happy by owning a SAP pup to the 10 to 20 disgruntled customers ,,you can't please everyone! ,,the odds are well in SAP favor, and if this letter helps just 1 person then I am glad I got involved. read more

The staff is rude and completely unprofessional. My friends and I usually come into this place to look at the pups and give them attention because we all love dogs and honesty who can afford a $2500-$5000 dog? I'd love to buy/adopt one but I'd rather save one from mill shelters and I cannot afford another dog at my home haha. I already have three living with my family and I! The staff looks at you like a hawk acting like you're going to steal a dog. This young girl in particular who has half blonde and brown hair acted so horrible and nasty to my friends and I. She stared at us continuously. My friend and I went over only to see this dog eating/licking poop on the ground. We were like "omg ! The dog is eating poop!" And we were laughing because we were very confused , but only to realize that it was sick because right after it started pooping out liquid. And the girl comes over and tells one of the employees that usually cleans the inside of the little pens to clean it and she just stands over by us. I say to my friend "aw he probably doesn't feel good" and the woman looks me straight in the eyes and says "he's fine." In such a nasty unprofessional tone. I ignored her and just kept talking to my friend because I was so angry and when I start going off, i can't stop. Plus there's no reason to be nasty back , don't want to stoop to her level but If you work at a pet store and think that a dog licking and eating shit and shitting out liquid afterwards is "fine" then you need to get a new job and never get a dog because that's horrible judgement. Anyways, we still looked around at the dogs while she was staring at us the whole time. Then there's this door with a little window on it and there's dogs next to it in a cage (we were petting the other dogs , we weren't just over there for nothing) and the same friend that was with me says "omg look there's dogs in there too! Aww!" And the woman comes over again and says "do you guys need any help" in a nasty tone once again and my friend says "no thank you we're good" I mean we're not gonna get nasty but cmon , who do you think you are? No one is doing any harm by looking at pups and giving them attention. Also when we went inside ALL of the dogs were asleep and most likely drugged. Some of their eyes were rolled to the back of their heads. It was horrible. The staff is disgusting and stares at you and makes you uncomfortable. My parents even adopted a dog from there years ago when I was younger and we ended up putting the poor thing down because it was too violent. Nobody would take him in because of his violent tendencies. Even from the day we got him, you couldn't go near him when he was eating or drinking. He would continuously growl and had many problems. I don't know what they do to those poor things, but if you can , save those dogs! I wish I had the money and a big place to adopt all of those pups. I left feeling angry and uncomfortable. It's horrible how they treat the dogs and the people that walk in. read more

I bought my first dog from Marc at Shake A Paw in Lynbrook many years ago.... And by the time he was 4 months old, he won his first ribbon in the show ring. Now I am not saying that Shake A Paw dogs are all show quality, but the fact is, they are not being sold as show quality. My Akita passed away at the ripe old age of 14.... And was a great dog since day 1. Next I bought my Golden Retriever from him a few years ago. He was not show quality... but he was always healthy and beautiful. I have read other reviews.... "My dog was sick....." etc. So here is the kicker.... I bought my female from the top breeder in the United States; knowing I wanted to breed her, and I paid ten grand for her. Her parents were national champions, so I figured she had to be worth the money. There were four out of eight pups left in the liter when I chose her at three weeks old. I brought her home at 10 weeks. By twelve weeks I was back at the vet, paying a ton of money. When I contacted the breeder, they refused to cover anything. They said she is mine now, therefore my responsibility. Five years ago when my sister wanted a dog for my niece and nephews, I went back to Marc to get them one. Now granted, I am a professional trainer and I also do dog boarding in my home, and I trained her and worked with her, but she is now a certified TDI dog (Therapy Dogs International) and works as a service dog for one of my nephews who is special needs. I highly recommend them over at Shake A Paw. The place is always clean, and the staff cares about the dogs and their customers. Do pups get sick? Absolutely! Especially when people think the place is a petting zoo to entertain their kids, and want to take out every pup just to play. Would a human baby fare so well if people constantly woke it up from a dead sleep just to play? I think not. Sorry... rant over. Just frustrates me when I go to the store for supplies or whatever, and see it going on... and those are the same people who come online and want to bash the store with bad reviews. I have never had anything but positive interactions with the staff at the store, and therefore, will continue to recommend them to my clients, family and friends. read more

I bought my adorable little girl here 2 years ago. She's a maltese/yorkie mix. She hands down is the best dog I've ever had. The staff here was great, super friendly super helpful. This place has a bad wrap "Oh puppy mill this, puppy mill that" honestly, who is to say that buying a dog direct from the breeder is any better???!? I know someone who bought a dog from here 16 years ago....he's still alive and well. I know people who have had breeders pure breds that passed at 4, 2, and 5. So you tell me what is really worse. Just like humans, something can happy with your puppy/dog/cat. The great thing about this place, (both locations because my parents just purchased a cute little guy from here in October) is the booths, you can interact with the puppy and get a sense of the personality before you make the commitment to him/her. The cages are clean, the animals look happy and from my experience have been healthy as well. Of course, puppies just like babies have weak immune systems, and it doesn't take much for them to get sick... IT'S COMMON SENSE...they give you the immunization records, and tell you to have a follow up exam almost immediately with a vet of your choice, or one of there own. I would reccomend Shake A Paw 1000000 times over, infact I gave the information to someone in the Boston area, who might to drive down and look for a puppy. The micro-chipping is a great tool, and it's nice that all of the dogs here are mircochipped, registered with the AKC, and lostmypet.com. Ignore these people who say don't go there, because THEY had a bad experience, I've gotten 2 dogs from there and would do it again and again and again. read more

I very often go into Shake A Paw in Lynbrook because they carry a brand of food that is not offered in other pet stores. While there I'm compelled to visit with the puppies being the dog lover that I am. This past Sunday I had a terrible experience and have not been able to "shake" the picture in my head of a 5 1/2 month old Wheaten terriers face smashed against a glass window of a kennel that with glass so high you couldnt even touch the dog. I asked to have him taken out and the sales person was eager to let me know his price had been reduced. She told me she would like to freshen him up first before viewing him. This dog smelled like perfume who knows when it was last properly bathed and was so lathargic. Spending MONTHS in this pen is JUST CRUEL!!! I stayed with him for awhile to give him human touch and finally got him to respond. What was more overwhelming was the aburd amount of animals in the store-there had to be well over 100 puppies. The smell of feces towards the back of the shop was so profuse it made me gag. Why have things gotten this way and why is there no recourse to control this horrible environment. If I go another sleepness night thinking of this poor puppy getting older and less saleable for them I'm considering making and offer for him and donating this pedigree to North Shore Animal League for adoption. I only wish I was capable of having another dog just not to let this one be mentally abused by the money grubing business Shake A Paw is. read more

I've had many dogs and recently mine passed away suddenly. After making the decision to get a puppy, I went to many stores to look around. Shake a Paw in Lynbrook was the best experience I've ever had. We were helped by multiple people including managers. They all treated us as a friend or family member. They all took their time with us and were so helpful. When it came time to take my new little one home, they brought her out wrapped in a baby blanket with a bow around her neck. They ring a bell for everyone to see a puppy is going home. Everyone was cheering and clapping. I thought about the dog I just lost and how much I needed this puppy and I started to cry. The girl who had been helping us hugged me and walked me out to the car to hold the door for us. They all asked us to come back and visit. My boyfriend is looking for a dog as well. They have me on file to call and when I checked back with them, they remembered me. What an all around great experience. I got love from strangers that I truly needed for this transition from mourning my dog to loving a new puppy. Just took her to her first vet visit and got the all clear that she is doing well. So happy I went to Shake a Paw in Lynbrook. read more

We have been doing business with shake a paw in lynbrook, NY for over 3 years. We have gotten 3 puppies and have been extremely satisfied. We did research and in no way are they a puppy mill type of operation. The sales staff cares and love each puppy they have and care for them like they are their own. They have always been great with us during the purchase process as we travel 4 1/2 hours to get puppies. They sell a lot of puppies and do not have them in store long. They supply great vet checks and they also gave us training on care of puppies each time and they have all the supplies right in store that you would need to get started with new puppy. The staff is very educated about each breed they sell and if they don't know answer they research and get correct information for you. There is 1 salesman there that has helped us several times , Thomas, and he is just super at what he does , he has knowledge, passion for puppies and has gone above and beyond for us each time we purchased a puppy. I will always highly recommend Shake a paw -LYNBROOK to anyone looking to purchase a puppy of any breed. They are Great! Susan H read more

~I have never had a dog before, and went in to see the puppies in the Lynbrook store. I immediately fell in love with a chocolate poodle, about 3 months old. They gave me a a few breaks on the original price & I put the puppy on hold for $200. In 2 weeks I picked the puppy up ... she was bathed and looking as energetic & healthy as I had seen her. They gave me papers, and said she most likely will have kennel cough & possibly parasites. I took her to my vet for an exam, and he said she appeared very healthy & when tested, she did have parasites. The parasites were cleared up by the second dose of antibiotics. She NEVER came down with kennel cough. My puppy is now 9 months old and the JOY of my life. She is good tempered, absolutely funny, and very healthy & energetic !!! The only thing I did not like about Shake A Paw was the PUSH to sell you a puppy. However, they did take their time to work with me, and constantly allowed me to visit with her, and worked with me on a price. My experience in total was very very very good !!! read more

We went to this place 3times before we actually took one home. The place always has cute new little puppies whenever we come back. The last time was when we finally decided to get one. He was the biggest puppy in the entire store tho he was ony 3mos old. But he was the most adorable one. I thought the price we got him for was pretty reasonable for a mixed pup. We asked to see him and the lady actully left us with him for a while so we can olay and get to know him. We didnt feel any pressure at all. Cathy, the lady who we talked to was very nice and new the puppy a lot so we had a lot of info about him to take home. They bathed him before we left and explained all that we needed to know, except for one little thing. They have a vet that we dont have to pay for when we visit. They didnt explain that if we visit a different one the contract would be voided. So we had to pay for it when we went to visit. Overall, we give this place 5stars read more

I am a big fan of this store. About a year ago my wife and I purchased a Teddy Bear (Shih Tzu/ Bichon Frise) puppy from the store. He has got to be one of the best dogs I have ever owned. His name is Nails and he was definitely the cutest puppy in the store. Once we saw him dancing around in the pen my wife and I new he was the one. We were given some private time in a room to get to know him. The woman that helped us ( I think her name was Kathleen?) answered a bunch of questions we had about the breed and health guarantees. She gave us some pointers on housebreaking that proved to be very useful as well. He is happy and healthy and we wouldn't give him up for the world. We paid a bit more then we originally had budgeted but it was money well spent. I have recommended the store to my coworkers and friends and will continue to do so. read more

Purchased a toy poodle here who had to be euthanized by their veterinarian because she had a severe case of parvovirus and was not responding to medical treatment. The store offered me a "replacement" puppy who ended up passing away at a very young age from a congenital heart defect. I've contacted the store via Facebook, but they have deleted my comments. I also reached out through email and they will not provide any information...they just told me to come to the store and purchase another dog. Horrendous customer service, but more importantly lack of concern for the well being of the dogs being sold. The vet told me that the parvo could have been very easily prevented or at the very least, treated immediately which would have likely saved its life...the staff just kept telling me she was just very shy and calm. read more

My family has been purchasing puppies from this establishment since it's opening, and from it's ownership in the many years before that. We have always had outstanding, high quality, "that's a great-looking dog" type of dogs. I and the rest of my extended family will undoubtedly continue to purchase dogs from this business in the future. For those looking for an honest review of Shake A Paw, beware of the numerous negative reviews that tend to focus on "puppy mills" and other examples of poor quality puppies, as they are nothing more than conterfeit statements provided by animal activists now using internet feedback blogs as a means of carrying out their "war" on the pet industry. This is a great business, with a great product that has and will continue to keep families happy for years and years to come. read more

I took my son to visit Shake A Paw last weekend as we were thinking of getting a new puppy now that summer is over. As we entered the store we were pleasantly surprised that there was no smell whatsoever and the place was spotless. My son instantly feel in love with a Mini-Goldendoodle, after some negotiating with Kristin we decided to take home Charlie. So far he has been perfect and is almost housebroken already. Our experience with Shake A Paw was great and I have already recommended them to a few friends. I would like to know why my review is not posted on this site... It seems as though only negative reviews are showing and the positive reviews disappear. I see a lot of the nice reviews are hidden on another page. Doesn't seem right to me.... read more

stop purchasing your puppies from places like this. plus they lie and refer you to whatever vet, saying "the vet is covered for a month" but when you go to the vet the vet HAS NO IDEA WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. the initial first visit should be free at whichever vet they refer you to.. nothing else is, or should be, covered. the puppies are always sneezing, coughing, have intestinal parasites.. i can understand all that, when they're all together all day if one has it they all will but this place sells puppies with congenital illnesses that SHOULD NOT BE SOLD. and they LIE TO YOU. stop stop stop filling their wallets!!!! read more

I fell in love when I went into this pet store. The puppies were gorgeous!! The sales people were so friendly, kind, and attentive. " That lasts as long as your in the store". the puppies are a bit over priced. Some of the information given is very misleading as well. That did not stop me from purchasing my little baby. My only advice is to ask as many questions as possible or you will walk out of there with half the facts, and get attitude over the phone depending on who answers. I will not go back there for my second pet. Oh my baby had ear mites and a cough. Good luck!! read more

Don't get a dog here. I love my puppy, but he came home with Kennel Cough and Giardia. I was hesitant to buy a dog from a pet store instead of a breeder or a shelter and now I wish I had followed my instincts. The people at the store are nice and friendly, but these are not quality dogs and they are not being properly cared for. Save your money and buy from a breeder or adopt. I have already paid $100 in bills not covered by their 'free vet' in the four days I have had him. If you really want a puppy, go somewhere that they really care about the dogs! read more

We bought a puppy for 2000. The dog had kennel cough now has upper and lower respiratory infections. DO NOT BUY YOUR DOG THERE. THEY NEED TO BE CLOSED. ITS A TRAVESTY. Don't be fooled by the cute puppies They want your money and call your own vet crazy if you don't use their vet. Why would anyone use a vet they pay. The dogs are sick to begin with. THIS PLACE SUCKS. go to a reputable breeder or rescue. Our mistake. We love our dog. Hope she lives. They should be in jail for animal cruelty. Why they are not in jail I'll never know . read more

I got my first puppy from Shake A Paw. I was helped by Edwin C who was very helpful and friendly. He took his time while I got acquainted with my new pup. I had no idea what I needed for a new dog and he went through with me and picked out all of the items I would need, He explained in detail the type of food to feed my pup even down to the type of toys. If you even want a new puppy I would recommend you go here, they are a variety of dogs and I'm sure Edwin or another friendly employee will be able to help. read more
