Got my awesome yellow lab here 8 years ago. She's healthy. She's amazing. My kids adore her. This place took great care of us and answered all of our questions. Thank you shake a paw!!!!

Good place to get a pet, I got him a few days ago and he is healthy, he only vomited once but he stopped vomiting, recommend this pet store staff is very helpful, healthy after 5 months of having him

If I could give this review no star I would. I came in looking to buy a dog. I asked if I was able to play with one of the dogs. After waiting for about 15 minutes I was denied service. Either the owner or the manager came up to me and said it wasn't a petting zoo. There were multiple people in there playing with dogs but I was denied. Even though there were others there playing with multiple dogs at once. Most of the dogs looked malnourished and had poop all over them. The place itself is dirty and they have horrible customer service. I would NEVER go back again.

I can't even put into words how much hatred I have for this place. It's been over a week and a half of purchasing my dog Dexter (the Doberman) from shakeapaw. In one of my previous reviews for shakeapaw I mentioned all of the issues I had with purchasing Dexter ( please read the other review ). I do not recommend buying anything from here! My current dog is now fighting a upper respiratory infection due to the poor treatment shakeapaw provided for Dexter, when bringing Dexter home and keeping him isolated.. my current dog Benji still got sick. I'm disgusted with this place. I feel so bad for both of my babies. Both dogs are now on antibiotics but still this is insane.. they need to get shut down!!!

I have waited over a year to tell my story about my dog I purchased from this location. Backstory: bf and I wanted a dog. We wanted a lab but living in an apartment at the time we knew a 90lb lab wouldn't be fair for her. We found the breed "beagador." It's a beagle and lab mix, so lab personality with a beagle size. This mix isn't very common and during the first surge of Covid it was already impossible to find puppies, let alone this specific breed. My friend told me about shakeapaw. I knew a puppy store wasn't the way to go but I looked at the website anyway. When I looked they had a fawn colored female beagador. I was shocked. It was exactly what we were looking for. We went to look and fell in love. (This backstory is for the ppl who say if you get a puppy from a store, you're in idiot). We take her home. 3 days in she is lethargic and throwing up, not eating. To the hospital we go. She has kennel cough and parvovirus. She survives! We call her our miracle baby. Well well well...... 4 weeks later she is lame (limping) on her back right leg. We take her back because she's limping, and now crying and screaming. Not a single vet can figure it out. Growing pains? We change her food and they supply anti-inflammatories. Pain continues. Back to hospital. Tramadol/muscle relaxers on board. No pain is managed. She is hospitalized for IV pain medication. We get her back, she's somewhat better with a fentanyl patch. Then it starts all over again in less than 24 hours. We drive back to the hospital. One vet mentions meningitis. They hospitalize her. They run a PCR panel from the other hospitalizations. It comes back positive for distemper virus. Her myoclonus (leg jerking and lameness) is not muscular, it's neurological. Distemper is incurable, fatal, and multi systemic. She was never vaccinated, shakeapaw lied. We took her to one of the best neurologists on Long Island. MRI and spinal taps done. Started on prednisone. She no longer has pain. A lot more occurred that for all intents and purposes I'll save because this would be a novel. Just know after prednisone is got mange, TWICE. We took her to a family vet who said he hasn't seen distemper since his training in Mexico. Please make sure your pets are vaccinated!! She has two bad back legs for the rest of her life, but she does just fine. She's a fighter and our life. I like to believe we saved her from that horrible store and there is a reason why I ever checked their website in the first place. I will say after I called shakeapaw and I supplied proof of vet bills they ripped up the contract and we got her for free. That was after I told then I'd go to the media and sought legal counsel. But that's not really gonna help anyone because of "buyer beware" laws. So PLEASE, buyer beware. We went through the roughest summer of our lives and that's not even saying what our girl Luna went through. Yelp isn't letting me post any pictures. I don't know why.

I've visited this place and it's very friendly natured. Even though the puppies are pricey they came with a lot of benefits such as pet insurance and a micro chip to find the dog if stolen or lost and etc. honestly I think most of these comments are made up to low competition for #1 puppy businesses like this. read more

I wish negative zero stars were available and I am sure after being there that every one of the heart breaking reviews below is true. I am a dog lover and knowledgable about dogs. I want to get a puppy / or adult dog and while buying one from a place like this is slim to none I went in and looked. The male employee with the shaved head and beard came over and started his sales pitch. He was trying to run his words together to make it sound like the dogs were from reputable breeders and AKC registered. I wasn't at all confrontational but I think that most people know that mixed breed dogs are not AKC registered. He asked if I knew what the AKC was and I said yes- very familiar. At some point he walked away and started glaring at me from the other side of the room. Really ? Am I being threatened ? In spite of the strange look in his eyes and his paranoia I was not afraid of him but it was obvious that other employees were. I kept looking and started talking to another sales person. Most of the dogs there looked sick and lethargic but I was interested in a crated dog that was awake. As I was talking to the other sales person the guy that seemed to be threatening me called him away and he went (quickly). What a disturbing visit !! Yes as other posters have said the place needs to be closed down. But I would also think twice about bringing any of my animals to the sunrise medical clinic that seems to be consorting with this awful place. read more

There is no rating for ZERO, except "0"....they are OVER PRICED, the dogs are NOT properly cleaned..they smell...puppies seems to be NOT PAPER TRAINED.....they are OVER PRICED,oh did I mention that already...oops!!!!!....I would not recommend purchasing puppies from this establishment...I have 2 pups from there and neither knows how to use paper..when I laid out the paper, they either chewed it, which was fine and understandable..but poo and pee and still sleep in the area....not understandable...Purchased a dachsund from Petsmart in 5 Towns, and he was wonderful...clean, paper trained and he was only 6 weeks old...big difference in professionalism and caring for dogs...especially pups. read more

This place is HORRENDOUS!! I wish i could give it 0 stars because that is what they deserve. I made the biggest mistake by purchasing puppies from this puppy mill run store. All of their dogs are sick and are not checked by the vet until you bring them for their first visit. If you're looking for a sick inbred puppy, go to the puppy mills in Iowa yourself, the exact place where shake a paw gets these "high end puppies". NO these puppies are from dirty, unsafe and unhealthy puppy pills that have been shut down before for being hazardous. The manager Mark Jacobs is unprofessional, rude, cowardly. He sells sick puppies and then hides in his little office while all the sales people have to speak in his behalf! GO TO A BREEDER AND DO YOUR RESEARCH PRIOR! read more

Do not buy from them. Their puppies are sick with parasites and kennel cough. Mine nearly died five days after we bought him and hospitalized for two weeks with pneumonia and parasites. We love our puppy but his training and socialization is now that much harder considering he has been in and out of the vet for two months and not allowed to be around other animals until he was 100 percent we'll. They offered to replace him. How terrible. What would they do put him down or resell him. Never again! Shame on Shake-a-paw. read more

The worst pet store and customer service I have ever ever experienced. A beautiful 8 week old husky puppy died within a week of me purchasing her from these people. Then they give me the get your free puppy option to replace the deceased one. They showed no remorse..only sarcasm when I had things to question about why they this would happen in the first place. They act professional until they get that purchase out of you. Then you're nobody. The managers are all horrible and care nothing more than what they sell. They now refuse to give me my refund and the owner Mark Jacobs is probably the worst person I've ever had the experience of dealing with. Anyway, I would never recommend anyone going to this place. If you want a lifelong friend, please go to north shore animal league. Or find a private breeder. This place says puppy mills all over it. read more

Stay away from this place. You can always get better quality, healthier and way cheaper dogs directly from breeders. This place operates like a bad used car dealership. Constant dirty sales tactics, withholding information, changing prices up as you get attached to the puppy. We did not purchase in the end and were luckily able to walk away. As much as we wanted to take the puppy we liked home, we could not make such an important purchase from this unprofessional and frankly disgusting bunch.... read more

I've been told to stay away from any puppy store but by far this is the worst puppy store. I bought a cane corso in February because I couldn't resist the cuteness. But he is nothing but trouble, I am experienced with dogs so it's not like I've never trained a dog. He has extreme anxiety and a very aggressive side to him. I actually went to the hospital the other day because his collar got caught in his mouth. So I tried to get it out and he went straight into fight mode to protect himself and destroyed my hand. I've talked to neighbors and apparently this is what most of the puppy store dogs are like( I mean they all have something off about them, not all are aggressive). So I talked to a cane corso trainer and breeder, he said that some of these dogs that come from puppy mills(which is where shakeapaw gets there dogs) are inbreed and are treated terribly. DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM HERE!!PLEASE !!!! read more

First Time Dog Buyers Beware!!! My family fell in love with a cockapoo. We don't know much about dogs so we asked the staff. They right out lied in terms of how to care for a puppy. They made it sound like it was a plant you can feed and water once a day and everything will be ok. For example, they told us to feed him only twice a day. This didn't sound right so we asked our friends with dogs and the Vet and they all said puppies need to eat three times a day. Clearly its a sales tactic - the lunch time feedings could be a huge problem for a working family that is not home. They made the dog sound as carefree as possible. Within a week we realized the dog was not getting the attention it needed at our house. When we called to say we were not a good family for the puppy, they said they do not take pets back for any reason whatsoever and that we can take it to a shelter where they were "sure" it would get picked up right away. They could careless who buys these poor animals. I am now reading some of these posts and I agree, they are very nasty to the animals and the dogs are definitely afraid of the staff. We will find this pup a loving home. I could careless about the $3,200 I spent on the dog and all the supplies they told me I "absolutely" needed. This is about being humane. Shame on us for not becoming fully informed prior to buying a pup, but SHAME on them for knowingly dong this all day long!! We will one day get a dog when we can properly care for it, but we will definitely adopt. Places like "Shame A Paw" are contributing to the overpopulation of kill shelters. Horrible!!! read more

Buyers beware. Staff super friendly but a whole lot of empty promises. When we purchased our $1,800 puppy we were told if there were any preexisting conditions that they would reimburse us up to the total cost of the dog. Within weeks our pup was having internal problems leading to costly vet bills. We tried out many different things to solve the problem. Fast forward months later he was still having the same issues, we took him to our 5th vet and we realized he needed immediate surgery. At this point within 1 year of having him we have spent over $9,000 in vet bills. When we reached out to shake a paw early on in this process they reimbursed us $125. When things got more costly they turned their back on us and would not reply to our many requests. We moved out of state so our only communication would be by phone. We emailed documents multiple times and spoke to them directly but never got any response from the owner. We have given up and are going to chuck it up as a loss and absolutely would not recommend this establishment to anyone. Stay away. We love our dog but are extremely disappointed with how they do not stay true to their word. read more

I went into the shop in Hicksville yesterday with my daughter to look at puppies I was so upset on what i seen! I walked into the back to were all the dogs were, 3 employees were standing around the cages and no one came over to greet us or even ask which dog we were interested in. We proceeded to look around.. The workers were at cages and giving the dogs shots and they grabbed the dogs ruffly and pumped stuff in the dogs mouth! also as soon as the workers walked over to the cages the dogs looked scared! my heart was broken for these little pups! I seen another little pup that was shaven down his back! OMG even my daughter was so upset! the puppies in the glass cages only had a tiny little mat in the cage and had to walk on a grate which is probably so uncomfortable! I proceeded to ask a worker on which dog was which breed and he had no clue! The area were the dogs were was smelly too! i walked out feeling horrified at anyone could treat these dogs so bad! poor conditions and giving shots and stuffing liquid in the dogs mouth! I cried as soon as i got in the car my daughter was upset too! we wish we could of taken all of them home! I would never ever buy a puppy here or go back again! read more

yesterday my husband and i went in to look at getting a new pup. We looked around for a bit and then Chris (staff member) asked if we wanted to sit with the dog in the cube. We sat as my husband asked questions about the dog and also to bargain down the ridiculous price of almost $2,500. With that Chris ran to his make-believe manager and came back with just a few hundred dollars less which would have been the same discount as their online coupon. Anyways we said we would think about it and Chris yanked the dog away from us, threw it back in the coop, red in the face from aggravation and just being totally mad as hell saying we wasted his time and for us to leave. Not to mention the dog already had a limp in his front step...All these people care about is their commission they make. They throw the dog food at feeding time in the coops, they don't care if the dogs aren't getting enough food as they pack 3-4 dogs and expect them to eat from the same bowl. Worst experience ever to witness from a staff member and the environment. This place should be shut down!!!!! Do your research -go to Nj or PA for your dogs.... Don't support these garbage people with overpriced dogs. read more

THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!!!! I have been a dog owner for over 20 years and it is heart wrenching to see an establishment like this. Not ONE employee knows anything about dogs and they should be embarrassed to even work there. The workers are rude and nasty, and actually made a face at me and my boyfriend had to restrain me from even saying something. Dumb broad. These dogs have no energy and for being PUPPIES, they should have all the energy in the world. While I was browsing, I noticed a Rottweiler whose nose was white from being so dry and crusted. His eyes were blood shot and he couldn't even stand. I brought it to the employees attention that this dog was severely sick and needed medical attention and they told me it was just a cold. I'm in the medical field, I know it's not "just a cold". These dogs are neglected and walk around in their own feces without any food or water. Do not support these stores. PLEASE call the ASPCA OR THE SPCA TO SET THESE PUPPIES FREE !!!! I ONLY GO IN THERE TO CHECK ON THE DOGS FROM TIME TO TIME. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PICK UP THE PHONE AND HELP TODAY!!!!! read more

I bought my puppy from this disgusting place ! I purchased my puppy in June and its Sept. and my puppy is STILL very much sick. My poor Luca, came with "kennel cough." I was NEVER told my puppy had perilously had kennel cough. I spent every week for 2 months taking him to the vet and they all would give me pills that did nothing for him. Oh their customer service sucks. My puppy means the world to me and the fact that they care very little for these puppies is truly terrifying. They are telling me that if he was sick they would have not let me take him, bullshit. All the care about is making money. To this very second I am trying all I can do for my puppy to feel better but nothing is working. I'm currently attending school in a different state and when you purchase a puppy you get the first year worth of vet visits "on them," yeah the vets suck. Honestly it kills me to have to hear my puppy not getting better, I don't regret getting him. I only wish this store that would take care of the puppies much better. read more

In light of all the negativity that is posted about this store I feel compelled to share my positive experience. Almost 2 years ago I purchased my morkie puppy. The store associate was very helpful and even contacted to breeder to get us a lower price. I was provided with all official paperwork on her even showing who her parents were and where she came from, a breeder not a puppy mill. I purchased a perfectly healthy, playful, loving, sweet puppy that I have not had a single problem with since the day I got her. I spent a decent amount of time in the store during the process of purchasing my puppy and her supplies and I found the puppies to look healthier and cleaner than what I have seen in other stores. While it is important share your experience - I think people are quick to post the negatives, which turns people away and causes the pets to be sitting around even longer. There are obviously risks associated with purchasing a puppy from a pet shop but I had a great experience. read more

I love Shake A Paw and disagree with the negative reviews posted. I purchased a Labradoodle who was about 5 months old and got an awesome deal. He was very well taken care of by Shake A Paw and all of his shots were up to date. You could tell he loved all of the workers so you know they treated him well. You cannot force an animal to love you if you aren't kind to it. I have had many dogs over my life and he is the absolute best dog I have ever had. He has a wonderful temperament and is very gentle and loving, especially to kids. My friends have a small child and he loves her and follows her everywhere she goes. You would think he was her dog. I have also recommended Shake A Paw many times and have a friend who bought a beautiful cocker spaniel and Is extremely happy with him. As with any establishment, there will be a few bad experiences and unfortunately those are the ones who will post reviews while the good experiences don't generally take the time. This skews the reviews making it seem like most of the transactions are bad experiences when actually the opposite is true. I always try to give credit where credit is due and I feel very strongly that Shake A Paw in Lynbrook is one of the best places you can find to purchase a dog who will become a wonderful family member. It is the only place where I will ever buy my dogs. read more

we lost our beloved 17 year old pug 2 summers ago and were now thinking of a frenchie as a change of pace pup. were planning to go to a breeder but went to shake a paw first just to see if we really liked frenchies before making the plunge. while there, we unexpectedly fell in love with a black pug. she wasnt ready to come home for 2 weeks due to kennel cough. during this time we visited her every day and got to know the store and staff very well and were very pleased with everything. place is immaculate, pups all seem happy, and staff absolutely loves them all. they were very honest in that when vet came to clear her for us to take home, he diagnosed a dislocated knee cap that we were not aware of. they offered us a discount and put in writing they would pay if she ever needed surgery in future. she has been with us for few days and so far so good with everything. no way to predict her health in future but like anything worth doing, you have to accept risk. as to all the yelp negativity, i feel it is either animal activists who are opposed to pet stores in general or people who bought pets they couldnt afford and have financial issues when the bills come due. only criticism i have, is the prices are high so dont expect any bargins. read more

I've never in a billion years thought that I would ever have a dog mostly due to my mothers dislike of the idea and her allergies but she finally gave in and I recently purchased her on 10/1/15 from Shake A Paw pet store in Lynbrook,Ny. She was a two month old Maltese/ Shih tzu and I adored her. Her first day home was amazing and my family finally warmed up to her and loved her just as much as I did. On Sunday 10/4/15 I realized that she was coughing tremendously so I took her to the vet and they told me she had Kennel Cough, nothing too serious. They prescribed her medication and sent her home. The next day she was the same so I continued to give her the medications she was prescribed. On Tuesday 10/6/15 I noticed that she was becoming worse. She did not have much of an appetite, threw up everything she tried to eat, and was lethargic. I took her to the vet again later on that day and they took some blood work and sent her home. Later that night she was very sick. She did not want to play at all and she did not want to eat. She slept so much it scared me so my mother told me to rush her to a 24 hour animal hospital. When we reached the hospital they tested her and told me that she had Parvo Virus which is extremely dangerous and highly contagious. They treated her that night which cost me $1300 and I rushed her to another hospital in the morning on 10/7/15 due to financial reasons. They told me they were going to do everything they can for her and they took her in. I visited her everyday since that day. On Sunday 10/11/15 she was pronounced dead and I was devastated. I need others to be aware of the crooked actions that are taking place at Shake A Paw pet store and to warn them before they purchase a sick dog. Parvo is a very contagious virus and my puppy was around many puppies in the facility. Who knows how many sick puppies are in there right now and people are buying them. Please let people know so they don't feel the pain I feel right now. My puppy never got a chance to live and love. I just want to give everyone a fair opportunity to love an animal and create a wonderful life with him/her. read more

Whatever you do, do not buy a dog from this place. Everyone that works at the shop is a complete liar and a crook. I bought a 12 week old Siberian Husky with one testical from this place and the dog was unable to go home the day I bought it because it had an "upper respiratory infection." A week later I called up and they claimed the dog was healthy and ready to go home. I picked the dog up and before I even got home the dog was coughing, sneezing out green mucous and very lethargic. I brought the dog back and they only had a 6 month old husky, and told me I couldn't have my money back. My options were to let them keep my $2000, take a sick dog home which was going to cost me hundreds of dollars because the "free first vet visit" is completely nonexistent or pick out a new dog of equal or lesser value; none of which I had any interest. I had to fight, plead, and argue with the 20 year old "manager" just to get a store credit to buy a dog at a later date. A month later they had a new litter of Rottweilers, my other desired breed and I went to see them. There were two females both 6 weeks one which looked healthy and one which had a giant hole in her belly which apparently was from "tumor surgery" but looked like something you'd see in a prison movie. Needless to say I took the healthy looking dog home because at the end of the day I wanted a dog and didn't want to waste my 2k. The dog had worms and all of the other fun puppy issues and cost me about $400 to treat. The dog got an infection during her spaying which cost me an additional $1000 to treat. Now that I'm about $3400 in the hole the dog starts vomiting every single day after finally healing from her spay infection. Back to the vet to find out she came from the worst puppy mill in Iowa, and has multiple misshaped organs in her body and neurological issues which do not allow her to digest food and water properly causing her to throw up on a daily basis. Corrective surgery cost $2500 dollars and being that I have a heart I paid for it and she is currently in the hospital healing. At one year old my "healthy Rottweiler" has over $4000 in vet bills and medication on top of her outrageous $2000 store tag. Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY A DOG FROM THIS PLACE! It is a complete scam, they would be out of business if they gave refunds which is why it is like pulling teeth to even hold a conversation with anyone who works their. Both dogs I took home were the sickest dogs I've ever seen and the people who run the store never cared one bit about the customer or more importantly the sick disease ridden dogs. It's nothing but a scam, the "breeders" are owners of puppy mills, nothing more. I strongly urge you to take your business anywhere else. 0 out of 5 stars. read more

Hello, I am a long time customer of Shake A Paw in Lynbrook as are my family and friends.I have recently read some disturbing and misinformed posts and feel as a multi pet owner who has dealt with this store regularly for over 10 years ,I need to help try to rectify some of this misinformation being passed on. I feel it would be a shame for a person or family to deny themselves a positive -life changing experience becoming a pet owner or repeat pet owner and getting to know the happiness and warmth a puupy adds to your family. I know of no other place then Shake a Paw in Lynbrook to start. Let me begin with their staff who I see as a a dedicated team of workers, I use the term Team because as they are all unique individuals they all have the same dedication for working together to ensure the best care for both the puppies, kittens , as well as their customers. Some misleading facts concerning staff, medical issues, financing and store policies are as follows: The staff at SAP do NOT work on any commission based salary, they have for years worked on creating and keeping a friendly, family atmosphere for their store as well as for their customers. Commissions tend to bring aggressivecompetitive sales, which is not what this store is about. From their "newly in training people to their "Veterans" to their topshelf Kennel menthey seem to all work together to ensure the store remains an above clean, healthy, and friendly envirement for their puppies as well as customers. Someone is always willing to help you 7 days a week! On to the medical side, and I write from personal experiences.SAP deals with hundreds of pups on a daily basis giving us as customers a choice to find the perfect matched puppy for our wants and or needs. So as there are many puppies in their newly redesigned opened pens , done for the comfort and cleanliness of the pups , and for the customer to experience hands on playing with the pups it's understandable puppies are more exposed to each other and can possibly pick up common pup colds, a worm or even a parasite, all very common in puppies regardless of where they are purchased from or even adopted from, These pups come in ,by law, at 8 to 10 weeks old, The staff does everything within their power to avoid a puppy having any issues. The pups are dewormed from the 1st day upon arrival but as with young children just starting school if 1 child has a cold it's a pretty good assumption many in that class will follow as it is with puppies 1 pup has a cold and the other pups can easily follow. SAP has a very reputableVet staff that not only visit the store weekly they have 24/7 access to Vets or the Vet hospital, the same care offered to you upon purchasing your puppy there. There is a time frame for certain med coverages , but SAPs time frame far exceeds the incubation period of any common puppy issue,as Kennel cough, worms , a parasite, so if the puppy breaks out with something after this time frame it is easy to say thepup didn't pick it up in the store so it wouldn't be covered . On the other hand anything within the time frame is dealt with in a most professional and speedy manner, me and my families experiences. But also remember people must stay in the Network! as with your own personal health insurance , Any Drs, office requires you sign a paper that you are responsible for whatever your ins doesn't cover, as well as if you go out of your net work you know you might be responsible for your entire bill , so it is the same with Vets, and puppies It's very unfair not to notify the store if for advice or documenting that you think your pup might be getting sick or a cold or just not acting right,,as explained at time of purchase [my family has purchased many pups here]it is always explained in full clear detail you must stay in the net work of SAP Vet care to be covered!Sap stand behind their pups and are there to help you 24/7 so take advantage!! I also saw confusion on the financing ,using words like scam artists etc Sap by no means receives any monetary benefits by you using the financing, It is an outside companybrought in by the demands of customers , I being one, Sap did this to offer more options, It is fully explained about the interest and terms , it is in writing to see , I read over the contracts and decided this option was not for mebut for those of you that do your issues should be with the finance company altho at the time of purchaseyou are made aware of the charges &terms you chose this option knowingly and the store cannot be faulted for your decision. It again was brought back in the store as a courtesy for their customers.I just feel it would be a shame that for the tens of thousands of puppies and families made happy by owning a SAP pup to the 10 to 20 disgruntled customers ,,you can't please everyone! ,,the odds are well in SAP favor, and if this letter helps just 1 person then I am glad I got involved. read more

The staff is rude and completely unprofessional. My friends and I usually come into this place to look at the pups and give them attention because we all love dogs and honesty who can afford a $2500-$5000 dog? I'd love to buy/adopt one but I'd rather save one from mill shelters and I cannot afford another dog at my home haha. I already have three living with my family and I! The staff looks at you like a hawk acting like you're going to steal a dog. This young girl in particular who has half blonde and brown hair acted so horrible and nasty to my friends and I. She stared at us continuously. My friend and I went over only to see this dog eating/licking poop on the ground. We were like "omg ! The dog is eating poop!" And we were laughing because we were very confused , but only to realize that it was sick because right after it started pooping out liquid. And the girl comes over and tells one of the employees that usually cleans the inside of the little pens to clean it and she just stands over by us. I say to my friend "aw he probably doesn't feel good" and the woman looks me straight in the eyes and says "he's fine." In such a nasty unprofessional tone. I ignored her and just kept talking to my friend because I was so angry and when I start going off, i can't stop. Plus there's no reason to be nasty back , don't want to stoop to her level but If you work at a pet store and think that a dog licking and eating shit and shitting out liquid afterwards is "fine" then you need to get a new job and never get a dog because that's horrible judgement. Anyways, we still looked around at the dogs while she was staring at us the whole time. Then there's this door with a little window on it and there's dogs next to it in a cage (we were petting the other dogs , we weren't just over there for nothing) and the same friend that was with me says "omg look there's dogs in there too! Aww!" And the woman comes over again and says "do you guys need any help" in a nasty tone once again and my friend says "no thank you we're good" I mean we're not gonna get nasty but cmon , who do you think you are? No one is doing any harm by looking at pups and giving them attention. Also when we went inside ALL of the dogs were asleep and most likely drugged. Some of their eyes were rolled to the back of their heads. It was horrible. The staff is disgusting and stares at you and makes you uncomfortable. My parents even adopted a dog from there years ago when I was younger and we ended up putting the poor thing down because it was too violent. Nobody would take him in because of his violent tendencies. Even from the day we got him, you couldn't go near him when he was eating or drinking. He would continuously growl and had many problems. I don't know what they do to those poor things, but if you can , save those dogs! I wish I had the money and a big place to adopt all of those pups. I left feeling angry and uncomfortable. It's horrible how they treat the dogs and the people that walk in. read more

I bought my first dog from Marc at Shake A Paw in Lynbrook many years ago.... And by the time he was 4 months old, he won his first ribbon in the show ring. Now I am not saying that Shake A Paw dogs are all show quality, but the fact is, they are not being sold as show quality. My Akita passed away at the ripe old age of 14.... And was a great dog since day 1. Next I bought my Golden Retriever from him a few years ago. He was not show quality... but he was always healthy and beautiful. I have read other reviews.... "My dog was sick....." etc. So here is the kicker.... I bought my female from the top breeder in the United States; knowing I wanted to breed her, and I paid ten grand for her. Her parents were national champions, so I figured she had to be worth the money. There were four out of eight pups left in the liter when I chose her at three weeks old. I brought her home at 10 weeks. By twelve weeks I was back at the vet, paying a ton of money. When I contacted the breeder, they refused to cover anything. They said she is mine now, therefore my responsibility. Five years ago when my sister wanted a dog for my niece and nephews, I went back to Marc to get them one. Now granted, I am a professional trainer and I also do dog boarding in my home, and I trained her and worked with her, but she is now a certified TDI dog (Therapy Dogs International) and works as a service dog for one of my nephews who is special needs. I highly recommend them over at Shake A Paw. The place is always clean, and the staff cares about the dogs and their customers. Do pups get sick? Absolutely! Especially when people think the place is a petting zoo to entertain their kids, and want to take out every pup just to play. Would a human baby fare so well if people constantly woke it up from a dead sleep just to play? I think not. Sorry... rant over. Just frustrates me when I go to the store for supplies or whatever, and see it going on... and those are the same people who come online and want to bash the store with bad reviews. I have never had anything but positive interactions with the staff at the store, and therefore, will continue to recommend them to my clients, family and friends. read more

I bought my adorable little girl here 2 years ago. She's a maltese/yorkie mix. She hands down is the best dog I've ever had. The staff here was great, super friendly super helpful. This place has a bad wrap "Oh puppy mill this, puppy mill that" honestly, who is to say that buying a dog direct from the breeder is any better???!? I know someone who bought a dog from here 16 years ago....he's still alive and well. I know people who have had breeders pure breds that passed at 4, 2, and 5. So you tell me what is really worse. Just like humans, something can happy with your puppy/dog/cat. The great thing about this place, (both locations because my parents just purchased a cute little guy from here in October) is the booths, you can interact with the puppy and get a sense of the personality before you make the commitment to him/her. The cages are clean, the animals look happy and from my experience have been healthy as well. Of course, puppies just like babies have weak immune systems, and it doesn't take much for them to get sick... IT'S COMMON SENSE...they give you the immunization records, and tell you to have a follow up exam almost immediately with a vet of your choice, or one of there own. I would reccomend Shake A Paw 1000000 times over, infact I gave the information to someone in the Boston area, who might to drive down and look for a puppy. The micro-chipping is a great tool, and it's nice that all of the dogs here are mircochipped, registered with the AKC, and lostmypet.com. Ignore these people who say don't go there, because THEY had a bad experience, I've gotten 2 dogs from there and would do it again and again and again. read more

I very often go into Shake A Paw in Lynbrook because they carry a brand of food that is not offered in other pet stores. While there I'm compelled to visit with the puppies being the dog lover that I am. This past Sunday I had a terrible experience and have not been able to "shake" the picture in my head of a 5 1/2 month old Wheaten terriers face smashed against a glass window of a kennel that with glass so high you couldnt even touch the dog. I asked to have him taken out and the sales person was eager to let me know his price had been reduced. She told me she would like to freshen him up first before viewing him. This dog smelled like perfume who knows when it was last properly bathed and was so lathargic. Spending MONTHS in this pen is JUST CRUEL!!! I stayed with him for awhile to give him human touch and finally got him to respond. What was more overwhelming was the aburd amount of animals in the store-there had to be well over 100 puppies. The smell of feces towards the back of the shop was so profuse it made me gag. Why have things gotten this way and why is there no recourse to control this horrible environment. If I go another sleepness night thinking of this poor puppy getting older and less saleable for them I'm considering making and offer for him and donating this pedigree to North Shore Animal League for adoption. I only wish I was capable of having another dog just not to let this one be mentally abused by the money grubing business Shake A Paw is. read more

I've had many dogs and recently mine passed away suddenly. After making the decision to get a puppy, I went to many stores to look around. Shake a Paw in Lynbrook was the best experience I've ever had. We were helped by multiple people including managers. They all treated us as a friend or family member. They all took their time with us and were so helpful. When it came time to take my new little one home, they brought her out wrapped in a baby blanket with a bow around her neck. They ring a bell for everyone to see a puppy is going home. Everyone was cheering and clapping. I thought about the dog I just lost and how much I needed this puppy and I started to cry. The girl who had been helping us hugged me and walked me out to the car to hold the door for us. They all asked us to come back and visit. My boyfriend is looking for a dog as well. They have me on file to call and when I checked back with them, they remembered me. What an all around great experience. I got love from strangers that I truly needed for this transition from mourning my dog to loving a new puppy. Just took her to her first vet visit and got the all clear that she is doing well. So happy I went to Shake a Paw in Lynbrook. read more

We have been doing business with shake a paw in lynbrook, NY for over 3 years. We have gotten 3 puppies and have been extremely satisfied. We did research and in no way are they a puppy mill type of operation. The sales staff cares and love each puppy they have and care for them like they are their own. They have always been great with us during the purchase process as we travel 4 1/2 hours to get puppies. They sell a lot of puppies and do not have them in store long. They supply great vet checks and they also gave us training on care of puppies each time and they have all the supplies right in store that you would need to get started with new puppy. The staff is very educated about each breed they sell and if they don't know answer they research and get correct information for you. There is 1 salesman there that has helped us several times , Thomas, and he is just super at what he does , he has knowledge, passion for puppies and has gone above and beyond for us each time we purchased a puppy. I will always highly recommend Shake a paw -LYNBROOK to anyone looking to purchase a puppy of any breed. They are Great! Susan H read more

~I have never had a dog before, and went in to see the puppies in the Lynbrook store. I immediately fell in love with a chocolate poodle, about 3 months old. They gave me a a few breaks on the original price & I put the puppy on hold for $200. In 2 weeks I picked the puppy up ... she was bathed and looking as energetic & healthy as I had seen her. They gave me papers, and said she most likely will have kennel cough & possibly parasites. I took her to my vet for an exam, and he said she appeared very healthy & when tested, she did have parasites. The parasites were cleared up by the second dose of antibiotics. She NEVER came down with kennel cough. My puppy is now 9 months old and the JOY of my life. She is good tempered, absolutely funny, and very healthy & energetic !!! The only thing I did not like about Shake A Paw was the PUSH to sell you a puppy. However, they did take their time to work with me, and constantly allowed me to visit with her, and worked with me on a price. My experience in total was very very very good !!! read more

We went to this place 3times before we actually took one home. The place always has cute new little puppies whenever we come back. The last time was when we finally decided to get one. He was the biggest puppy in the entire store tho he was ony 3mos old. But he was the most adorable one. I thought the price we got him for was pretty reasonable for a mixed pup. We asked to see him and the lady actully left us with him for a while so we can olay and get to know him. We didnt feel any pressure at all. Cathy, the lady who we talked to was very nice and new the puppy a lot so we had a lot of info about him to take home. They bathed him before we left and explained all that we needed to know, except for one little thing. They have a vet that we dont have to pay for when we visit. They didnt explain that if we visit a different one the contract would be voided. So we had to pay for it when we went to visit. Overall, we give this place 5stars read more

I am a big fan of this store. About a year ago my wife and I purchased a Teddy Bear (Shih Tzu/ Bichon Frise) puppy from the store. He has got to be one of the best dogs I have ever owned. His name is Nails and he was definitely the cutest puppy in the store. Once we saw him dancing around in the pen my wife and I new he was the one. We were given some private time in a room to get to know him. The woman that helped us ( I think her name was Kathleen?) answered a bunch of questions we had about the breed and health guarantees. She gave us some pointers on housebreaking that proved to be very useful as well. He is happy and healthy and we wouldn't give him up for the world. We paid a bit more then we originally had budgeted but it was money well spent. I have recommended the store to my coworkers and friends and will continue to do so. read more

Purchased a toy poodle here who had to be euthanized by their veterinarian because she had a severe case of parvovirus and was not responding to medical treatment. The store offered me a "replacement" puppy who ended up passing away at a very young age from a congenital heart defect. I've contacted the store via Facebook, but they have deleted my comments. I also reached out through email and they will not provide any information...they just told me to come to the store and purchase another dog. Horrendous customer service, but more importantly lack of concern for the well being of the dogs being sold. The vet told me that the parvo could have been very easily prevented or at the very least, treated immediately which would have likely saved its life...the staff just kept telling me she was just very shy and calm. read more

My family has been purchasing puppies from this establishment since it's opening, and from it's ownership in the many years before that. We have always had outstanding, high quality, "that's a great-looking dog" type of dogs. I and the rest of my extended family will undoubtedly continue to purchase dogs from this business in the future. For those looking for an honest review of Shake A Paw, beware of the numerous negative reviews that tend to focus on "puppy mills" and other examples of poor quality puppies, as they are nothing more than conterfeit statements provided by animal activists now using internet feedback blogs as a means of carrying out their "war" on the pet industry. This is a great business, with a great product that has and will continue to keep families happy for years and years to come. read more

I took my son to visit Shake A Paw last weekend as we were thinking of getting a new puppy now that summer is over. As we entered the store we were pleasantly surprised that there was no smell whatsoever and the place was spotless. My son instantly feel in love with a Mini-Goldendoodle, after some negotiating with Kristin we decided to take home Charlie. So far he has been perfect and is almost housebroken already. Our experience with Shake A Paw was great and I have already recommended them to a few friends. I would like to know why my review is not posted on this site... It seems as though only negative reviews are showing and the positive reviews disappear. I see a lot of the nice reviews are hidden on another page. Doesn't seem right to me.... read more

stop purchasing your puppies from places like this. plus they lie and refer you to whatever vet, saying "the vet is covered for a month" but when you go to the vet the vet HAS NO IDEA WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. the initial first visit should be free at whichever vet they refer you to.. nothing else is, or should be, covered. the puppies are always sneezing, coughing, have intestinal parasites.. i can understand all that, when they're all together all day if one has it they all will but this place sells puppies with congenital illnesses that SHOULD NOT BE SOLD. and they LIE TO YOU. stop stop stop filling their wallets!!!! read more

I fell in love when I went into this pet store. The puppies were gorgeous!! The sales people were so friendly, kind, and attentive. " That lasts as long as your in the store". the puppies are a bit over priced. Some of the information given is very misleading as well. That did not stop me from purchasing my little baby. My only advice is to ask as many questions as possible or you will walk out of there with half the facts, and get attitude over the phone depending on who answers. I will not go back there for my second pet. Oh my baby had ear mites and a cough. Good luck!! read more

Don't get a dog here. I love my puppy, but he came home with Kennel Cough and Giardia. I was hesitant to buy a dog from a pet store instead of a breeder or a shelter and now I wish I had followed my instincts. The people at the store are nice and friendly, but these are not quality dogs and they are not being properly cared for. Save your money and buy from a breeder or adopt. I have already paid $100 in bills not covered by their 'free vet' in the four days I have had him. If you really want a puppy, go somewhere that they really care about the dogs! read more

We bought a puppy for 2000. The dog had kennel cough now has upper and lower respiratory infections. DO NOT BUY YOUR DOG THERE. THEY NEED TO BE CLOSED. ITS A TRAVESTY. Don't be fooled by the cute puppies They want your money and call your own vet crazy if you don't use their vet. Why would anyone use a vet they pay. The dogs are sick to begin with. THIS PLACE SUCKS. go to a reputable breeder or rescue. Our mistake. We love our dog. Hope she lives. They should be in jail for animal cruelty. Why they are not in jail I'll never know . read more

I got my first puppy from Shake A Paw. I was helped by Edwin C who was very helpful and friendly. He took his time while I got acquainted with my new pup. I had no idea what I needed for a new dog and he went through with me and picked out all of the items I would need, He explained in detail the type of food to feed my pup even down to the type of toys. If you even want a new puppy I would recommend you go here, they are a variety of dogs and I'm sure Edwin or another friendly employee will be able to help. read more
