Booking was super easy via their online system. Shop is very clean / organized. Rob himself is an absolute gem. Listens carefully to what you want, gives suggestions, and execution was immaculate. Asian hair like mine can be tricky for some barbers, but this guy knocked it out've the park. I plan on stopping by every time I'm in town now. He will be doing the hair cuts for myself and my son since he is patient and brings a great experience to anyone that comes in. My son (3) went from being afraid of clippers to high fiving Ivan and asking when his next haircut is. in my experience, someone patient is great but someone that remembers you is key. Ivan remembered me from months before as far as how I like my hair cut and even the mole on the back of my head. I decided to try the Shag Shop again by making an appointment with Rob. I had to cancel with less that Michele's 24 hour mandate, but that shouldn't have mattered because I gave them plenty of notice and had made the appointment less than 24 hours in advance. The most recent appointment I made with Rob was for today, 2-8-24 at 5:40 PM, but when I checked my emails after 2:30 I found one that said it had been canceled and there was no explanation why. I went onto the website and scheduled an appt. with Rob for 2-9 at 5:40 and asked why they canceled today's appt. I received an email at 3:04 stating my appt. had been accepted, but then another at 3:06 said it had been canceled. I sent an email to Michele to ask what happened, but she ignored the email just like she was doing when I decided to go to another barber before. Has Michele turned into the word used for a female dog? Is that why Ivan left? read more

Great barbers and cool vibe. They give out free drinks which is a nice perk of getting your haircut there. It's a little pricey. They went from $30 last year, to $35 earlier this year, and now they are charging $40. read more

Michelle is fantastic! My boys 15 and 17 are super picky about their hair. But we've had Michelle cutting their hair for over a year now and they're always happy which makes me happy! Best haircuts around. Worth the drive up from Santa Monica once a month because I always leave happy with the cut. The girls are great here and are always willing to chat about sports or new bars in the area. They also give you a free drink (beer, soda, water) while you get you haircut. Just moved to the area and was looking for a new barber, so I checked out this spot. It has a cool biker bar type vibe. This isn't the first barber shop to offer me a beer, but it was the first barber shop that gave me my choice of craft beers for my beverage, including my favorite, Lagunitas. I had my haircut by Amber. She did an awesome job and was really attentive to detail. I get a pompadour style, which a lot of shops won't know how to do, but Amber understood what I wanted even better than I could explain it. I have to say, I left pretty happy! When I first called for an appt today whoever was on the phone was helpful and knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. When I arrived the girl at the front was very kind and offered me a beverage. I appreciated her more than friendly attitude and her pleasantness. My barber was Amber and what I really appreciated was that she kept referring to me by name. Something (at least for me) that keeps me coming back to a business is customer service. I pretty much have hair growing in places except for the top of my head and Amber took her time to get every last annoying scraggly piece of hair growing out of places they shouldn't be. The price was reasonable and again, the customer service was exactly how it should be at ANY place of business, warm and welcoming. I just got a cut for the very first time at the Shag Shop. At first, I didn't know what to make of it because the building looks as though it is tied in with a country western shop, but found out that it is actually a stand alone operation. The interior is clean and contemporary and the way you are situated the room feels open yet personable. I received a cut from Michelle McDonald who did a fantastic job. I have very thick hair so we consulted on how to approach the cut and what I was seeking. All in all, I came away very impressed with the cut and was really surprised with the way my normally unruly hair seemed to work after the cut. Great little spot. I post this compliment at the risk of everyone else discovering this shop. My little guy and I drop in for a cut and beverage every few weeks. Gatorade for the little guy and a Lagunitas for me. Amber and Michelle are friendly, do a great job, and make even a quick buzz a thorough effort. Today was my turn, but since my 3 year old felt left out, Amber gave a few quick clips and put some colored hair gel in his hair so he felt dapper.
