Shadow Mountain Labradoodles - Sweet girl puppy - Pet Breeders Near Me

Unsettling experience, I wouldn't recommend Mountain Shadow to my worst enemy, be aware! While the website and puppy photos present a polished image, my direct interactions were the opposite. Communication was often rude, aggressive, and intimidating. When my dog approached 6 months, the breeder began contacting me repeatedly, 3 times a day, via email, phone calls and DRIVE BYS regarding the spay requirement they spring on you only after you already paid them and met the puppy. The volume and persistence of the contact escalated significantly numerous phone calls per day, emails, and unannounced appearances parking in front of my house. On several occasions, I was followed while taking my dog to the dog park. Due to the intensity of the situation, I rushed to have my dog spayed earlier than planned. I also contacted the police because I did not feel safe. After the procedure was completed, the car parked in front of my house with a disturbing and intimidating appearance and demeanor driver missing teeth stopped. I fully understand and respect contractual agreements. However, harassment, intimidation, and surveillance are not appropriate or legal ways to enforce a contract. The experience was stressful and frightening, especially as a parent with small children. My experience not only crossed those lines, the puppy has several health issues at only 2 years of age, showing painful patella issues and most recent of unfortunately he may have some serious brain damage and mandibular problems too which we'll uncover the specifics pretty soon after several thousands spent in vet visits and surgeries. We purchased an Australian Labradoodle from Shadow Mountain in 2017. He is a beautiful dog, wonderful temperament, very kind and behaves exceptional well. Before we completed our purchase and during the time we visited to select a puppy, we witnessed our chosen pup and others from his liter have an episode of diarrhea. We were assured by Char, the owner, that that would not be a problem, that the pup would be "dewormed" and all would be fine. Upon our return a few weeks later to pick up our pup, we again experienced him having diarrhea. I don't remember the excuse we were given at that time, but we chose to take him home. We took him to the vet next day for a wellness examination and a fecal test. Turned out he did have a parasite, he was given prescription meds to take care of it. Had him rechecked couple weeks later and it had cleared up. We contacted Char and she was very good about reimbursing us for the cost of the test. After the parasite was cleared, our pup continued to have diarrhea. After many trips to the vet and many changes of dog food, we were finally able to figure out he had severe food sensitivities. We were able to find a food that his system could tolerate. This was quite an endeavor and took several months. Then the early morning vomiting started. Back to the vet several more times and he is then diagnosed with GERD. We have tried every type of medication to help him with this issue to no avail. The vomiting is not every morning, once twice every week or two. This is very sad for us to see him have to go through this. All along, we are thinking that we we're sold a pup that didn't come from the best gene pool health wise. Now, at age 5 1/2, he has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. This is a genetic disorder that he inherited from either one or both of his parents or grandparents. When we made our purchase, we we told that both parents had excellent hips, that no dysplasia existed. That is a falsehood. Shadow Mountain should know darn well that their breeding dogs have dysplasia and if they don't, then they aren't paying close enough attention to their them. They are not X-raying the hips of the breeding parents as they so stated, otherwise the dysplasia would have be seen. Or perhaps they are and choose to deceit people with lies. We are sickened by their lack of responsibility as there are hundreds of dogs out there who either are or will be suffering from their ignorance and greed. They tell you in your "health warranty" that " to the best of the Sellers knowledge this dog is free from genetic defect. To the best of the Sellers knowledge, the dogs sire and dam are free of hereditary defects". That is an untrue. They had both the parents on premises of our pup, if they'd X-rayed their hips, it would have been evident and they should not have breed them. So now we are faced with our beloved boy living a shortened lifespan, medication and treatments to help him with pain as he continues to age and this condition worsens. This is meant as a heads up for anyone who is seeking to purchase a puppy......DO NOT purchase from Shadow Mountain. They do not screen their breeding dogs, they don't care. It is simply a money making operation for them. Don't make the same mistakes we made by not asking to see the hip X-rays. If the pup has diarrhea, do not take them home. Find a breeder that has health pups. Don't take the answer that "all litters have parasites, that it's normal and de worming will clear it up"! That's not an excuse. Find a breeder whose litters don't have parasites, they are out there. Shadow Mountain is nothing more than a puppymill, shameful, money hungry people selling unhealthy puppies. Buyer beware. read more

We couldn't be more pleased with our experience with Shadow Mountain. Their professionalism and the kindness and care of their breeding dogs and puppies are evident everywhere you look. We were very happy with all the contact we had with Charl, Amy and Laura both before and during our visit to adopt our puppy Cody. The go-home information and training videos are a real plus. I absolutely recommend this breeder if you're looking to add a Labradoodle to your family. read more

We are first time pet owners. When still thinking about what type of dog to get for our family with young kids, I came across at a car dealership an elderly couple with this beautiful labradoodle. I am not a dog person but I couldn't help but be drawn to this dog's gentle temperament. The dog was allowing a bunch of strangers to pet it. I spoke with the owners who said they got their dog at Shadow Mountain and they kept raving about their dog's "great personality". Well flash forward to a couple months later, and we too are the happy and proud owners of a Shadow Mountain labradoodle with a "great personality". Our dog has been the perfect pet for our family. He is playful but not wild. He is great with our elementary age kids....smart...obedient...sweet...he has been a wonderful addition to our family, and we couldn't have asked for a better dog. My kids and nieces who have had allergies with other dog-breeds have had no allergy issues with our labradoodle. Shadow Mountain cares about its dogs and maintains strict control over the dogs' health and welfare. And based on my own experience with our labradoodle, I can say that Shadow Mountain breeds dogs that are healthy, smart and have great temperaments. I have recommended Shadow Mountain to our friends who are scheduled to get their puppy this summer. We get stopped by strangers all the time complimenting what a great dog our puppy is, and we couldn't agree more! read more

Hannah, our three-year-old Australian Labradoodle, came to us two and a half years ago and . . . as the saying goes . . . she's changed our lives--for the better of course. She's such a loving companion with the most positive attitude; when we walk in the mornings everyone we pass comments on what a happy dog she is. It's true--her entire body language announces that. She's delighted if a stranger asks if they can greet her, and seems surprised when they don't. We live on a golf course in the Palm Springs area and she loves to sit on the outdoor patio and watch the players, many of whom greet her by name. We can't thank Shadow Mountain Australian Labradoodles enough for the kind of dogs they breed and offer for adoption. Thank you, Charl, et al. Michael and Paula read more

If you are looking for a Labradoodle, look no further, Shadow Mountain is the place to go. We have a beautiful Labradoodle puppy from Shadow Mountain. We did a lot of research on Southern California Labradoodle breeders and landed on Shadow Mountain. They were very professional and their facility is very well run, it is clean and full of love. Charl and Amy were very patient with all of our questions and were great to work with. They went above and beyond to answer our questions and help us to feel comfortable. I couldn't imagine working with anyone else. Our puppy is smart, full of love and has a great personality. All of the puppies that we looked at in her litter were the same, we wish we could have taken them all home! Everyone who has met her loves her, and she does great with all of the different kinds of people she has met. read more

Thank you Charl and Tana for the best experience we've ever had in getting a puppy. We've purchased puppies from other breeders before and all have been great experiences but I feel like Charl & Tana are family after our experience working with you! I'll always be grateful for your guidance, patience and kindness. Got our puppy Coco when she was about 13 weeks...now 16 wks old. Took her to the vet and he said he rarely ever sees a puppy with no issues like this...clean bill of health. Her temperament and demeanor is second to none and not just because she's our puppy...the dog is sweet as can be and also really smart and a fast learner. She was potty trained within a few days and would paw at the door when she needed to go. She's amazing with everyone she's met and I can't say enough good things about this puppy. I feel really lucky that she's our family now. I would highly recommend Charl and Shadow Mountain Labradoodles to anyone looking for a sweet, amazing family pet. I saw some reviews about the $$$ and honestly, you get what you pay for and you would be getting a gem of a dog if you get one of Charl's dogs. We are lucky enough to have met some of her adult dogs and they are amazing. The puppies are sweet because they've known care and sweetness since Day 1 from Charl and her team. Highly recommended! read more

Shadow Mountain is one of our top Labadoodle breeders at PetTime Animal Hospital. This review is way over do since we have known this breeder for many years. Charl and her family take the utmost care for each puppy born in their home. When clients come looking for that breed we recommend them.. knowing that they give them the best care and medical attention when needed. We know when clients come back to us for regular check ups that these puppies came from a well taken care of facility. Not to mention the kind and loving personalities of Charl and her family. As owner of PetTime Animal Hospital I would definitly reccommend this breeder for your next pure bred puppy. read more

Not impressed. I normally don't write reviews but I feel as if I need to. I worked there for almost 6 months and a lot went on and I saw the real side to Charl, the side that clients do not see. No need to go into detail but you are not seeing the real her. I was given a 8 month old baby girl to co own with her and she was ripped out of my hands all because I asked her a question while she was on vacation. Journey had blood in her stool and I was concerned as she had a large case of parvo going around her facility. Don't worry parvo is gone and her employees did a great job of sanitizing to get rid of it. My main concern was about Journey and the lack of concern on Charl's side. She took the dog away from me for being concerned and caring for our dog. I'm still so sad. Charl got the police involved because I did not want to give her back because I already had taken such great care of her. Charl blocked me and did not have the decency to talk with me about why she was taking her away. She was in the best care. My family, my son and everyone loved her in just the short time we had her. I felt I needed to write this because I am still so angry and hurt by her actions. Her dogs are well taken care of and loved because of her employees, not because of her. I'm not writing this to get people to stop purchasing puppies from her because her puppies are amazing and need loving homes. This is Journey and I hope she find a great home cause she deserves it.! read more

Charl and her team and Shadow Mountain have been nothing shy of the perfect breeder if you are looking for a Labradoodle. We spent months researching our options as our needs were very specific: a dog that could serve as the perfect companion as well as a service dog for my disabled adult brother. Charl was quick to respond to our emails and invested a lot of time uncovering our needs and expectations. She invited us to their location, gave us a great tour and introduced us to a potential puppy based on our earlier discussions. We immediately fell in love with Puppy "B." Charl explained the important personality traits of a service dog and Puppy B seemed to meet most of them. However, she suggested we wait until he was a little older to confirm her feelings. Charl was spot on and we brought Cooper home in mid December. Since that time Cooper has been a rock star and the best companion. He is patient, loving, social, and the most adorable well-behaved puppy you could imagine. If you are looking for a person who is more than just a breeder and makes sure she finds the right dog for your situation, you need to look no further than Charl and her amazing team at Shadow Mountain. read more

Fantastic Breeder and experience! Charl came highly recommended by a dear friend whose family had purchased several puppies from Shadow Mountain Labradoodles. We came home with our Bella Luna 2 days ago. She is beautiful and sweet. She amazingly is adhering to her schedule Charl established despite all the changes in the transition. Bella saw the vet yesterday who found her in perfect health and very, very well cared for. Charl is very detailed, informative and helpful. Our family feels very fortunate to have one of her puppies and I would not hesitate to recommend getting a puppy from her!!! read more

This breeder came highly recommended. I personally know of 4 other Australian Labradoodles from this breeder and they're all just beautiful, inside and out. Their temperaments are amazing. In my research of this breed I read that this these are not type type of puppies that tear up your house.... So far I find that to be very true. Charl is wonderful; she clearly cares for her dogs and gives them excellent care. She has been responsive to our questions after we brought home the puppy, and is happy to look at the pictures I email to her. Our puppy is happy and healthy. The vet was impressed and said it was nice to see someone do their research about a breeder. All in all, awesome experience! read more

What a great experience working with Charl, Amy and the crew to find a puppy for my kids. We are so grateful for Buster who has made our family so happy in these odd times. The ability to meet the puppies and choose one that was right for us (more energetic to match the kids) was extremely helpful. Their training before picking Buster up was also very helpful. We highly recommend Shadow Mountain Labradoodles to all seeking a new puppy! read more

An update on my last review. Shadow Mountain Labradoodles finally contacted me on 6/14/17. Which is 7 business days late of their stated response date. They did apologize for the late response and explained that they had had a family emergency. I accept their apology and hope everything is going well for them now. On strictly a business level I will again rate them at 1 star. The reason is if I had purchased one or more of their very expensive dogs and had an issue after receiving the dog(s) I would expect to be able to communicate with them in a reasonable period of time. By anybodies standards, when a life may be on the line, 7 days is not reasonable for a response time. read more

We had the best experience you could ask for. My husband and I had not had a dog in our life for over 16 years, as empty nesters it seemed that this was a good time. We called Charl and went to visit twice, before finding our forever puppy! I was specific about wanting a female and a mini, when we went to visit, Charl said she had a few puppies for us to play with and hold before making our choice. She did say she thought there was a male puppy she thought was a really good match for us. Well, we spent time with the girls and neither my husband or I felt like they were THE ONE. Then came the boys. She brought in 3 boys for us to play with and perhaps choose from. We knew within a few minutes as he choose us. Our Hershey, is the most amazing dog we have ever known. He is smart, loving and sweet. He loves to watch TV with us and loves to ride in the car. My husband is now retired and they spend the day together. When I get home from work at night - Hershey is always waiting for me at the door. All our friends and family love him.Thank you Charl and Shadow Mountain Australian Labradoodles for bringing us together. If you are thinking of getting a labradoodle, you should seriously look at the puppies here. They are the best breeder and incredibly professional. Our Hershey his 2 1/2 now. read more
