Center for the Arts Evergreen is now celebrating 50 years of operations (2025). The facility has…read moreexpanded during my years in Colorado from a small cabin near the Buchanan Park Recreation Center to the repurposed church that is its current location. The Phase II expansion completed in June 2024 has greatly enlarged the facility with community spaces, classrooms, artist studios, an artist-in-residence program, and a state-of-the-art ceramics studio. CAE sees its mission as a community hub, hosting ten annual art exhibits, a wide variety of children's and adult classes and workshops, summer camps, and mentorships. There is also a concert series, community rental spaces, arts festivals, an elegant gift shop showcasing local artists, and many community outreach initiatives. I visit the gallery when I come to Evergreen. It is a nice exhibit space and has presented many interesting shows over the years, featuring material of local, regional, and national scope.

Not only does the art display the talents of locals, but the atmosphere is welcoming and cheery as well. I was told that the artists share the staffing responsibilities, with each coming in once a month. We were able to meet a very talented woman who dyes cloth and weaves. My other favorite art was the pottery bear the front. We enjoyed browsing here, and I would love to go back to add to my art collection. They also have the cutest window displays to draw you in. We walked around, went into Vital Sports, bought some items after taking our time trying on and such.....went back, sign Still there. Went Wednesday night with a friend to "paint your pet". You…read moreemail them a photo of your pet, they sketch it on canvas, and you paint it! It's one of the best classes I've seen out there since the painting is so personalized. It's also a bit more expensive than other classes because of the extra work that goes into it ($50). I think this class is better suited for people who have painted a couple times, or more. Next time I'll try a class where we're all painting the same thing, so it's harder for me to mess up. When all the pets look so different, it's hard for them to help you mix paint colors and walk you through every step. Some of the paintings were AMAZING and you could definitely tell these people had inherent artistic skills. People were looking at mine and smiling politely... haha. My painting is no masterpiece, but it sorta-kinda looks like Izzy. My fiance laughed at it when he saw it, but it was the first painting I've ever done! The instructor was helpful, and she went around to everyone giving them pointers and tips. The class included a drink, and they had little appetizers (mini meatballs, cheese, crackers, grapes, peanut M&M's!!!!!, hummus). It's a really cute space, and a fun thing to do with friends. Definitely recommend! P.S. There is a garage with free parking right behind the studio.

Art on the Brix has a really cool "open studio" on Tuesdays (less than $30). I had a great time…read morethere, the owners were very accomodating. It was a very relaxing experience, totally open-minded, and a lot of fun! Highly recommended to anyone in the greater Denver area for a visit to try the "open studio". I was surprised that the cost was so low when let you take your canvas with you, which is moderately sized. This would be an absolute blast to come with a group of ~10 people. They have a "paint your date/mate" night - where you can do a portrait of the person you come with. Sounds like a blast - I fully hope to get back there. Beer/wine is available for purchase too, at less than restaurant prices. My only complaint, is that it's hard to find. If you enter from the main street, there's minimal street presence. There's a small sign out front, so don't look for a large window near their address. You need to follow down a hallway before you arrive at the studio. I think it's possible to get there faster from the back side of the studio? Anyway - give yourself time when trying to find the studio. I was surprised to see that other reviews posted were less positive. Reaction to other reviews: --"better suited for someone with painting experience": I've never painted before, and was entirely not intimidated by the environment. I felt no qualms trying funky patterns! --"cancelled birthday party": this definitely sounds like a nightmare. My experience was very unstructured (dropping in to an open studio), so this was not a problem. The staff was very friendly and provided help whenever needed.
