Bought my wife a new 2024 Prius AWD Limited Edition and, after it finally arrived, I promptly brought it in to Jake for a laundry list of work (Jake took care of a more minor job a few years back for me and did an excellent job so it wasn't a tough decision to choose Shaded Days Auto again). - Detailed wash and partial debadge rear - Full paint correction entire car - Full Ceramic Coat entire car - Full Ceramic PPF entire front of car up to the front doors - including A pillar up over roofline - Ceramic PPF hand wrapped headlights and DRL's (custom cut, not a precut kit) - Black Ceramic PPF installed on factory gray painted area of inner grill (very impressively done because the black PPF is thicker and more difficult to work with than clear PPF or thinner vinyl; and particularly in tight spots) - Full Ceramic tinted windows all around (wife wanted 35%) except front windshield Very impressive finished project. Couldn't be happier, frankly. Jake is extremely personable and a pleasure to deal with, very knowledgeable, and does a very thorough and professional job. Did not go for the real dark stuff. Went with a 30% tint and it looks elegant. The plan was to leave the car there and get a ride there and back but my ride fell through. I was recommended this place by both my friend and my car dealership. I got 35% tints all around. Pretty satisfied with them. The next step up would have been 15% tints but that was a little darker than I wanted to go for. I do wish they had like a 20-25% tint but like I said I'm satisfied with my choice. Great service, got it done in like 4 hours on a Friday. Haven't had any issues with them since purchased a month ago. Price was a bit high but comparable to anyone in the area. I trust these guys. The reviews are absolutely accurate. I'm so glad I followed through and got my car window tints done here. I have a 2015 Acura TLX sedan and it was $275 to tint all windows w/ standard materials (extra $125 to add the windshield). Overly bright lights are blocked out, much of the heat is reduced out and of course my car looks absolutely stunning! Actually found this place through our Infiniti dealer. We had a tint job done by another company who had been in business for 30+ years and ended up with terrible results. Tiny specs of dirt and hair were found throughout the new tint. Being new to the area we contacted our dealer for a redo. At that time we found out they take their vehicles to Shaded Days. The redone job by Shaded Days looked fantastic.. this is why we called them directly for two more of our vehicles. I had my first car tinted at Shady Days four years ago and Mark did an amazing job so I came back to him two months ago when I bought a new car. I have been dealing with skin cancer problems for the last fifteen years and as a result I did my research at every level before I had that first car tinted at Shaded Days. I had never heard of the business but I asked a friend who worked at Knauz auto in Lake Bluff who they use. Apparently, they use more than one installer but the person said that Mark was the best. I also did my research online and read reviews of all window tints and chose the Llumar Air 80 Blue not only because it blocks 99% plus of all uva/uvb but because it seemed to keep vision clear. I was a novice to window tinting and at first was worried that it was a bit hazy after getting my car back but Mark told me to be patient as the tint needed to "cure" and all would be good and it was better than good. The peace of mind I get from having the window tinting is invaluable. The new car I just brought to Mark was a 2015 Honda Accord and the window configuration looked a lot more challenging and time consuming to tint than my boxy Honda Element. The angles of the front and back windshield are steeper and in addition to front and back seat windows there is a third mini glass pane on each side. I handed off my car to Jake who would have made me nervous because he looked so young but I remembered him from four years ago when he just started apprenticing with Mark so I had confidence that he had probably made any mistakes in his early days and was experienced enough to handle the job. I am writing this exactly one week from the tinting because I wanted to wait and confirm that it set right. I kept the interior of the windshield/windows free from moisture and finally sprayed Sparkle with a soft cloth and completely cleaned the outside as well. I searched for any imperfection, any bubbling, any hazing, any microtears, lines, anything that was wrong. It was flawless. If anybody has ever seen an average tint job you can see imperfections and a bad tint job cannot be lived with, but this was serious craftsmanship. Mark did a great job teaching Jake, and Jake said that this is career so who knows it might even be better to have the kid work on your car, because he sure seems to have a lot of youthful enthusiasm. You might think I was some kind of paid reviewer with all these details but I just appreciate the work they did and wanted to give a serious thank you. I tipped Jake $25 (not that they expect a tip) because I still can't believe how perfect my car is. Please understand that Mark charges a little more than others but that to me is a no brainer. Is there anything more important in your car than visibility/safety? This is something that you will have for years and if it's done badly you will never be happy. And besides Mark and his team deserve to make a decent living considering how skilled they are. I came here after my rear windshield tint was improperly (and mightily ugly) installed by another shop who has been around for 30 years. My car has a very challenging dot matrix (BMW 335i coupe) on the back windshield that often causes bridging and doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing. After calling two dozen shops in the area, I spoke with Jake and Cody who were the only two that said they would be able to fix my rear windshield. \ I dropped my car off for a full day and was able to get a great rate through Shaded Days partnership with Enterprise while my tint was being fixed. The next morning I picked up my car and the rear windshield looked exactly like I hoped for the first time around. Jake even called a few days later to follow up on the work he did which I was thoroughly impressed with. Highly recommended to any car owner who is particular about the work done to their car. Came to Mark and the team when I wanted the clear bra removed from my sports car. My high end restoration shop said they used Shaded Days for all their work so I felt confident they would fix my car properly. Mark advised me about potential paint damage upon removal of the clear bra but the car was perfect when I picked it up. At the same time, I discussed window tinting for my BMW. They advised me which products were available and their personal recommendations having done work on many BMWs. I followed their suggestion to do the ceramic tint. It looks great, works as suggested, and they did an excellent installation job. Shaded Days is a staff of perfectionists and "car people". Highly recommended. Summary: If you have a problem with your protective paint film (PPF) installation at Shaded Days in Lake Bluff, IL . . . it's been my experience that Mark Johnson (owner) will not stand behind his product or service. Shaded Days proved to be a very Customer Un-Friendly Supplier. Background: I write this review based on PRINCIPLE. I am a proponent of asking for referrals. For me, a good referral from a trusted source goes a long way to lending credibility when making a decision about an important purchase. In lieu of a referral I do comprehensive research on products and service providers prior choosing a supplier for significant purchases. Unfortunately . . . With this purchase I should have done both. My Experience: Based on a referral I contacted Shaded Days in Lake Bluff, IL. Before getting the referral I had researched several PPF film alternatives and got other quotes. Mark agreed to price match a quote from another local dealer. In consideration for his price match Mark asked if I would pay in cash - in good faith, I agreed. Mark recommended a reformulated name brand material which he claimed he had good experience with. He said he had found the material showed the best clarity, resulted in the best appearance and was the easiest to install resulting in the best of all worlds. Based on his referral I decided to take Mark's recommendation. When I arrived to pick up the car I noticed several areas that showed visual imperfections. I was assured that these cosmetic variations would disappear within a few days as the film cured in place. Having had experience with film installation in a somewhat related business it was apparent that the majority of the imperfections were 'in the film' and would not disappear. To the 'seasoned eye' - these film defects are visually obvious while on the roll and in the cut film sheeting before application. These imperfections become more apparent when the film is applied to the vehicle and squeegeed down on to the vehicles surface. In addition to the defective film issue described above there were a few less notable areas where dust particles were present 'under' the film. This is caused by inadequate cleaning and preparation of the vehicle and / or inappropriate handling of the film prior to being laid on the vehicle. These particles created other visual defects in the finished PPF installation. After sharing my observations I mentioned to Mark that I would go along with his suggested 'few days' to allow the defects to 'disappear' but I encourage him to contact 3M to see how they planned to resolve this issue. The distributor's representative came by promptly and without hesitation confirmed that a defective film had been installed. A full roll of replacement film was provided promptly. When it arrived we discussed the 'removal and replacement' of the defective film. At that time Mark explained to me that it was not uncommon that the clear-coat finish and/or the vehicle paint could be damaged when stripping the film (this was contrary to my experience). Mark also shared that he would not be responsible for any damage to the vehicle if the film removal damaged the vehicle. To wrap up this review without going into greater detail I shared with Mark that the 3M product was the product installed due to his recommendation. That I came to him based on the referral and that this situation could have been avoided had he observed the defects in the film prior to (or during) its installation. I further shared that due to the circumstances and his decisions (or oversight) I did not feel he should be putting his customer in the position of being liable for paint damage should it occur. After many weeks of volley with Shaded Days I took this issue up with 3M who mentioned that of course they would stand behind their product and would have their film distributor make arrangements to remove and replace the film. They further guaranteed that should there be damage to the finish of my vehicle they would stand behind any problems that might occur. 3M made arrangements to have one of their distributors premier installers fly in from Colorado to do the R & R. He completed the R & R in 4 hours with far superior results. Conclusion: Mark Johnson put me in an undesirable position based on his decision to install defective PPF materials. Mark Johnson is a supplier that did not hesitate putting the 'monkey' on his customers back when this 'foreseen' problem surfaced and dragged out this problem with excuses for over 2 months. In this situation, Mark Johnson avoided his responsibility as a 'referred' service supplier. From my experience - Mark Johnson is not a 'Customer Friendly' Supplier. He should have known better than to install this defective product based on his claimed 20 years of experience. read more
