First off, the gal that mans the phones is a GEM. Amazing customer service; amazingly helpful. Thank you! Got delivery call when they were on their way. Driver was very pleasant and made sure he put soil right where I wanted it. I got some 50/50 mix with extra compost added. Obviously can't comment on gardening results but very happy with the look of the product. If I had to come up with a complaint it is the choices are limited. In March of 2013, I have ordered 6 cubic yards of top soil 50/50 organic blend thru SGL Materials. What I really like about them is the fact they they worked until 7 pm when other places closed much earlier. Also they promised me delivery the very next day. So I was very happy with that. The reason why I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is because SGL say that they will call me 1 hour before delivery (that never happened). Actually I was taking off from my home when SGL truck came and second reason I gave 4 out of 5 is because driver asked me to pay cash when in fact I payed them with credit card day before. But he called office and issue got resolved right of way. So good product and costumer service needs to get improved a bit! read more

I am a landscape contractor & I spend about $7K - $15K a year on landscape materials. I have used several other material places here in Sacramento and SGL is by far the best! Not only are their prices competitive but their staff is willing to listen and they understand directions and are willing to go the extra mile for you. Don't even think about going to Hastie's or Cascade rock as they have no clue what service is all about it. The employees don't care about how they treat your vehicle or trailer and when there's a problem I was told no we are not responsible and was directed towards a lobby sign stating how they're not responsible before even listening to the issue. I get it a business needs to protect themselves but if you do it right from the start then you shouldn't have these types of issues. Half of the business is the product you carry but the bigger half is how you interact with your customers. SGL knows what they're doing. They do it right from the start. read more

This place is great because the owner, Paul, and his staff are friendly and accommodating. By the time I decided on what I wanted (I had been to 4 places), it was 2:00 and SGL closes at 4:00. I asked about a same day delivery expecting that it wasn't going to happen. I knew they were booked already from listening to their conversations. Instead of saying no, the cashier asked the owner. I had met Paul, the owner, on the lot earlier and we talked a bit. Without hesitation, Paul says he will deliver the rock today. And, he did. I wasn't expecting him to do it himself, but he did. I can't say much that has already been said about how great SGL is. Instead I will tell you what great things I have been able to do at my house because SGL is open for business and going that extra mile for each and every customer so they can get their projects done. Like I said, I am a just someone doing home improvements, not a big time contractor, but every question I had, SGL had the answer, great prices and great service. I have built 3 and soon to be 4 16 foot long raised planter beds in the backyard, and the garden I planted has outproduced every gardening effort I've made in the past. I think my gardening success this summer is due in large part due to the 50/50 topsoil/organic compost blend SGL supplied. Finally, I just finished a 12x16 paver stone patio in the back yard, and it looks awesome. SGL did not supply the pavers, but they delivered 3 yards of grave and 2 yards of sand that I needed for the base. Their delivery was prompt, the driver dumped the materials exactly where I wanted them. I know I will be going back to SGL as I start to work on the front yard. read more

Waste of time. They won't let you pull the concrete trailer except with a 3/4-ton pickup. My T&C van has the factory tow package, AWD, rated 3850 lb towing and only 5 mi over surface streets. I am a mechanical engineer and know better. They told me on the phone it would be OK if rated for the load, but the manager said "no vans" over the walkie-talkie. I hate dealing with non-degreed "professionals". read more
