His project manager and team was enjoyable to work with as well and they bent over backwards to make the transformation as painless as possible. The attention to detail is just what we were looking for and the suggestions they made were spot on. We did make some changes to our original plan, but Kurt and his team adjusted accordingly, helping us achieve the bathroom we were looking for. The cost of the project was about what we expected and with Kurt's guidance and help we stayed right on budget. If we do any other remodeling, Bayer Builders will be our contractor. Anyone who does a remodel and doesn't consider Bayer Builders is making a mistake.

Trust, ahead even of contractor competence (only slightly), is the most valued factor in a…read morerelationship with a business that will perform improvement work on your home, in my opinion; without trust, there is no basis for a relationship, unless you have a really good attorney on retainer. Replacement windows are not cheap; high end Marvin windows, ostensibly made in the United States are really not cheap. Wanting to "Buy American" and buy quality and wanting to hire a local business to do the work, I chose after much searching (a year) Marvin Windows and Ansonia Lumber Company. After spending almost 17,000 dollars on 8 replacement windows, having them installed by Ansonia Lumber Company and having the work quality inspected by Ansonia Lumber Company I am now, some 4 months later, very concerned that what I was told I would receive was not what was actually installed. Windows for your home are complex structures; they are comprised of many parts and there are many options to choose from when selecting these parts. What separates the options is cost; what you have to trust the installation and contracting company to do is to request from the manufacturer the options that you paid for and for the manufacturer to build the windows as outlined by your "trusted" contractor. Consider for a moment the scenario where one is charged for an upgrade, pays for the upgrade, yet receives a lesser quality product, not knowing the difference because to the uninitiated the windows look the same. This is where the trust part of the relationship comes in; this is the part of my story where I wish I had a really good lawyer on retainer to tell you about. I don't know what happened with my window install; I do know that it is now at my expense to literally "prove" that what was installed in my home was not what was in the contract. The Ansonia Lumber Company employee that I worked with on this installation project has abruptly left that company and I am now dealing with the "shrug-of-the-shoulder-gang" gaggle of employees who say "I don't know, he ain't here no more". Regarding Marvin Windows and Doors, the granddaughter of the founder of this company was given the company and just like in public housing projects, when someone is given something, they typically and usually could care less about it and that has been the nature of the response from this Go USA! Manufacturer, in my opinion; it must be the customer's fault, as quality and customer satisfaction is not our concern, especially after we get our money. This is not a "sour-grapes" review. It is a warning to homeowners: do your homework and read the reviews. Ansonia Lumber Company has a decidedly negative review on Angie's List but they tout themselves as being in business for more than 100 years (that doesn't mean anything; what matters is the quality of work that a business does today) and Marvin Windows recommended them (who else would they recommend as they sell Marvin products) so despite the negative review on that consumer website, I chose them. This was an expensive mistake, in my opinion, with reference to what I have recently found out about my window installation project. Based on my personal first-hand experiences with Ansonia Lumber Company, I no longer trust them. This promises to be a long, slow painful process to try and resolve. I think it would have been wiser and safer to have responded to the e-mails from Nigeria promising me the King's treasure than to have opted to have had these Marvin windows installed by this company. With that in mind, see the first sentence of this review. Unfortunately, I don't have a recommendation for a good window installer/contractor anywhere in or near the Dayton area; I do know that in general it is extremely difficult to find anyone honest and who works in the skilled trades, in the Dayton area, so good luck with your home improvement projects. Maybe HGTV will do a series in Dayton, Ohio, something perhaps involving the stories of frustrated home owners who struggle to find just one honest contractor, maybe a transplant from Canada named Holmes.

They applied 2 coats of primer on the whole house, not just on the exposed wood areas. I texted Ben my color choices, and with a high quality paint from Sherwin-Williams, my house was transformed. The team worked efficiently together, and the work progressed quickly. There were some interruptions due to rain, but Ben and his team more than made up for the lost time. The entire project was completed on schedule. Originally I hadn't thought of painting the foundation of the house. But since the siding was looking so great, it seemed dumb not to do something about the discolored, old cement that still showed drips from a paint job done 20 years ago. Ben and his team sealed it, and gave it two coats of paint. It looks fantastic!! Communication with Ben was super easy--he responded promptly to any questions I had. He texted me photos of the painting progress while I was at work. I highly recommend him--he's a nice guy, easy to work with, and does a great job!! It was a real pleasure to work with him and his team!

Very poor work and does not stand behind his work, only makes excuses…read more He did not put a moisture barrier put under what he knew was to be a finished basement, so lots of moisture is coming up with every rain. Very uneven floors, and it snowed/ freezing rained right after, so in the low spots water stood and froze, chipping and cracking. None of the drains are lowered, and the floors not level, so the water does not run towards them. He put the garage door in a different place than the plan said, on another wall and not under the front porch like we wanted. When asked about that, he said he couldn't do anything about it, and that it wasn't his fault, even though he'd been given a copy of the plan. He blamed the weather, his workers, us and our plumber, because he had to wait a day or two for the plumber to get there for drains, but we'd waited weeks and weeks for him to get to us. He told us it would be fine to pour that day, that he would put on blankets and do other things to help it stay warm enough to cure correctly. He did bring blankets, but removed them too soon and did nothing else. You can now feel the low spots very obviously when you walk across the laminate flooring. We were unable to use the type of flooring we wanted because of the chipping and unevenness. Even without the weather issue, the drastic unevenness of the floor is a big issue. When all this was mentioned to him before the house was finished, nothing was done. He never offered to fix it, he only offered excuses and blamed us, when he knew we knew nothing about concrete and trusted him since he's supposed to know the business. When we mentioned it again at time to pay bill for garage floor, he blew up, cussing and throwing a fit thinking we were not paying (not the case, we just wanted a reduction in the bill for crappy work), refusing to take responsibility for anything or take any money off the bill.
