Liked all the staff and doctor but I can't see with the glasses they gave me and had to return them. After several trips back for adjustments and another exam which changed my lens, I still couldn't see. And now have to wait months to get my benefits restored to my insurance company. read more

I believe first and foremost, when you have such high turnover of medical staff it's definitely telling of a practice. Second, the abrasive front desk staff is the initial presentation of the office. Although, my interaction was fine, I observed three other people being treated in a less than professional manner. Third, the lack of communication and consistency is offensive. I scheduled for my child and I to have appointments, not the same day but within the week. I received a call stating the doctor will not be available for my appointment. I rescheduled 2 months later. I arrived for the scheduled appointment for my child, and was told his appointment was canceled, and someone called (unsure if a message was left). Had an appointment today, the receptionist was extremely rude, she told me to fill out the top part of a sheet. I followed her directions, after I had been seen by the doctor, I was told to look at the glasses. As I was looking at the glasses, the receptionist comes up to me and says in a very rude tone."I need you to finish the other papers" I replied back with "Oh I thought I had completed everything you told me to complete. She then replies with well I need you to finish the rest, I have things that I need to do. Might I add my hands were full at the moment because I had my daughter in my hands. The woman gets upset because, I couldn't grab the clipboard. She then proceeds to toss it onto the display case. While storming off, repeating "I have things to do". Doctors are competent. I Love Dr Baumwell. But the Sewickley office is a mess. Complete chaos. The staff is highly unprofessional and passive/aggressive. There's a level of disrespect that is unacceptable. And the office seems to devote more space to selling high-priced eye wear than administering to patients' emotional and medical needs. Office culture starts at the top and filters down. Hard to believe Baumwell is the cause of this disaster. Maybe it's his partner, Bowers, whose unappealing chair-side manner may also spill over to office politics. And then there's the office manager who once threatened to report me to my insurer when I said something that challenged her fiefdom. Anyway, I've decided to look for another ophthalmologist. This office is an absolute joke. I scheduled 3 appointments for my family back in Feb. 2023 forDec., 2023. I received a phone call that they had to cancel. When I called back to reschedule the appointment that THEY cancelled, I was told that they couldn't get us in until March, 2024. I would give them 1 star, but since the doctors there are great I'm giving them 3 stars. The staff overall is fine except the ones that work in the glasses dept. I feel they aren't well trained or qualified to work in the customer service dept. For example, when purchasing lens, there are several different features you can add, such as scratch resistance, etc. Considering some of these added items can be almost $200, you'd think they'd know what it is and why it's beneficial to have them. Luckily, they had a brochure that explained the features which was contradictory to what the staff said. So, after spending over $1000 for 2 pairs of glasses, I was wondering why it's taking so long to get them. I finally called and found out they came in almost 3 weeks ago!!! Apparently, they sent a "text", which I never got. What makes me upset about their terrible services is that they never bothered to follow up. Who buys glasses and doesn't go to pick them up?!! I didn't even authorize them to text me. If you go there to get glasses, expect mediocre service and no follow up. read more

Enormous location that is bright and updated. They also have a great selection of eyeglasses. However the wait times are extra long, and they have a ton of patients funneling through. Which makes even talking to the people at the desk difficult. They lack that homey/friendly feel that the Allegheny/Bellevue location has. I prefer the Bellevue location. read more

Dr. Bowers was absolutely fabulous. After my dog got me in the eye with his claw, I went to sewickly emergency first. They called him for his opinion and wanted to see me right away. Very professional, wait times reasonable given that the world doesn't revolve around me and other people need seen/spoken to as well, and he did an excellent job. Highly recommend! read more

Went yesterday and was blown away by the rudeness and meanness of the woman taking my medical information. I almost got up and left. He BELITTED me and talked down to me because I didn't tell him I had eczema but surprise I wrote it on the paper. He didn't help at all. He was terrible and rude. Took my mother here for the first time. She recently went into a nursing home and we had to switch eye doctors. She is in her early nineties and has a myriad of health issues with her eyes. I called the office ahead of time and spoke with the receptionist who confirmed they could see her and treat all of those issues at their office. In general, this was a wellness check as she wasn't having any issues. Initially, the visit went well although there was a lot of back and forth between the chair, waiting room, and wheel chair, but it didn't trouble my mother, so we chalked it up to the extensive visit. They checked her glasses, glaucoma, and various other exams, and we were very pleased. Finally, the doctor came in - Dr. Bowers. He entered the room yelling - "you will never come to this office again". He then berated me about how my mother's myriad of issues should have been addressed at their other office, not the one on California Ave. I explained that I called ahead of time and was told they could see her here for all of her issues. He continued yelling further about how he wasn't sure why we were scheduled with him since he was a cataract specialist. Again I explained, they made this appointment knowing her history. Then he asked why we left our previous eye doctor and I explained my mother was in a home now and to commute to get her, then get to the eye doctor, then back home was too much. He scoffed and said he had patients that drove four hours to see him. Finally he said we needed to make an appointment at the other office and when I asked when those appointments might be, he exclaimed that he "didn't answer questions like that". Overall, he was completely disrespectful and out of line. Had he explained she should have been seen elsewhere, I would have had no problem with any misunderstanding. Will not be back and let the nursing home know what a poor experience we had, in case new residents are looking for a doctor. Very disappointed. read more

The doctor was really nice. But unfortunately, like most medical offices, the desk staff are unpleasant and rude. I don't know why that is. The wait is usually long at eye doctors. Be prepared 2-3 hours. That's just the nature of this business I suppose. They might want to add a television so patients can pass the time with some entertainment or even some music. Add a little drink station and that would be a big hit. The building was real nice but the lack of air conditioning made the 2 hour wait really uncomfortable. I found parking easy. I think they have a lot in the back. Sewickley is a really nice town to walk around despite the heavy traffic. read more

Dr. Bowers and the staff at both the Ohio Valley and Avalon Offices have always been great. Did my right eye for a cataract, which he did flawlessly. My vision in 3 days was very good. Also developed blurry vision in the same eye a month later. Went back thinking it was related to the surgery but it was a ruptured blood vessel probably due to coughing and sneezing due to a cold. Saw me the same day I called and spend 1/2 hour checking it out. I always thought he was very professional and approachable as well. I would recommend anyone to go there. read more

After a surgical complication, Linda the receptionist recognized that I needed immediate attention and fit me into the already tight schedule. Dr. Baumwell and Dr. Bowers were both very helpful throughout my treatment and everyone we encountered at the office was pleasant. We would give Sewickley Eye Group 6 stars if we could. read more

My appointment was at 10 a.m. By 11:55 a.m., I was still there waiting for my prescriptions to be printed out and someone who knew where to find the answer for my question regarding my insurance. They have not trained their staff well for their job. I was sent to 4 different people to get my prescriptions printed and questions answered. read more

I have no complaints about the doctors themselves, but the way they run the business leaves much to be desired. My son needed new glasses, and while he's covered partially under my work insurance, he has insurance through the state that picks up the rest. While I was up front about having a primary and secondary insurance, the folks in Sewickley Eye Group's billing department danced around the fact that they don't do coordination of benefits. By the time I cornered them on this issue the glasses were on their way and we needed them quickly, so I was stuck paying a good portion of the bill. This behavior shows that as a practice they are more interested in their pocketbook than the welfare of their patients. We definitely won't be back. read more

Dr Richard Bowers may be okay in his "skills" however; he treats his staff horribly and, more often than not, belittles his staff in front of his clients. He is a disgrace to his profession and should be ashamed of how he has gotten along thus far with his (must be) desperate or well paid staff-despite the negligence on his part. This was not my regular eye doctor, but mine sent me here for an eye issue 2 weeks ago because the couldn't see me at their office that same day. The came highly recommeneded, and I'm glad I disregarded the nasty reviews on here. I called their office at aprox. 5:00pm on a Wednesday hoping they could squeeze me in. They had an opening in the Sewickly office at 6:20 that same evening, and gave me directions. They started to take some of my info, and upon realizing where I live, told me that the Ohio Valley location would be so much closer and probably much less traffic to get there, and checked that's office's availability that evening. They had space, and I had a 7 pm appt set up within seconds. While I did wait my first visit, I can't complain, I was a last minute appointment, they did me a favor by sqeezing me in. They went above and beyond before I even walked in the door by having me go to an alternate office much closer to me instead of the one I happened to call. I was in pain, and hadn't had a chance to eat before coming, so I'm sure the wait felt much longer than it really was due to discomfort and hunger. Not their fault. All the techs and assistanta that talked to me were very nice, and explained everything to me in simple terms. I saw Dr. Bowers. He was so kind, and his demeanor made me relaxed and not so nervous. I was the last person seen that day, and I'm sure everyone was tired and hungry, but they didn't make me feel like a bother at all. Today I had my follow up, and once again, everyone was kind and so sweet. I was in and out in less than an hour with a good diagnosis after only 2 weeks. I would go here again for certain. So many people are quick to leave negative reviews, and never take time to say anything nice. I have to wonder after my visits here just how miserable some of their "former" patients are. These Dr's don't sit in some "fun rooml with a two way mirrow giggling and watching you all steam waiting in the reception room, I promise. You are not the only person they are seeing that day. Maybe an appointment before you got bad news, and the Dr took an extra 5 minutes to console them. Maybe an appointment before you was a scared child who needed a little more time to feel comforatable. Maybe they squeezed a scared girl in for an emergency appointment, despite the fact that they were already 2 hours late getting to go home and exhausted. You would want the extra time taken for you if that was you in that situation, so don't be so quick to attempt to ruin someones reputation just because you had to wait longer than you deemed fit. To those reading this and questioning if they should go here, give them a try. Remember, most people only take time to complain, very few take time to compliment. read more

I have to agree with the other reviewer and add to it. I found the McKeesRocks office to be very unfriendly. I got my contacts there and I was having a problem with them so I stopped into the office to ask their help. They treated me rudely and in a very condescending manner. I have never experienced anything like it in a professional establishment let alone a medical office. I abruptly left in disbelief. To add to that, I wrote to my doctor and shared this with him but never got any reply. So I have to assume that they have no problem with this type of treatment. Needless to say, I won't be back. This is a really great group of doctors. However, upon receiving my postcard in the mail that I was due for a check-up, I called to schedule and the earliest I could get in is 3 months from now! This practice is clearly well over its capacity to effectively serve its long-standing patients when the earliest available appointment is more than 3 months after a reminder was sent out. read more

My Rating "- 5" Complete WASTE OF TIME !!!!!! Run !!! I probably got AIDS in the office today!!! Scheduling, high tech machine was down, hand washing NOT PRESENT!!! Machines not cleaned before or after EYEBALLS were touched, body fluids from other people on your eyes. Claw like technician touched my face after typing on computer, because they could not find my chart, for a consultation I might ADD. Dr. Uline pulls an instrument out of a case in a drawer and pretends to wipe it off with a tissue. REALLY? A tissue will sanitize it from the last God knows how many people's eyeballs it was on it? YES ON MY EYEBALLS!! ! Machine on my eyeballs not cleaned before or after. My appointment was written on a card for 9:30 am. Told me it wasn't till 2:30 But we'll squeeze you in. REALLY? Got there at 9:20. Oh we'll squeeze you in. Really? I took a day off of work for bumblingfools .I had to listen to a male and female worker talk about getting a drink thrown in thier face last night while I'm sitting in a chair an hour later.I'm guessing the doc and claw like technician, but who knows. I got scheduled to go to Sewickley because of a machine that was sent out weeks ago. No machine =no test. Three appointments later, one bill for $240.00 for one appiontment ,everything is fine . We'll see you in six months. Do you know any cleaneye doctors? I thought you were supposed to wash your hands before you touched somebody's face in the medical field?
