You almost might miss this store. It's in a half empty strip mall, hiding out next to a Dunkin Doughnuts. It's the kind of place you walk by and mean to stop in the next time you're in the area. I'm telling you that you should make it a point. The fabric selection isn't huge, but its quality and there's a variety that you won't find in big box stores. This is the place you go when you want to make something beautiful. Sew Nice has a good selection of standard notions as well as a good selection of vintage notions. I found some fabulous bright orange lace seam tape in the discount bin for less than 80¢ a package. The woman who works there seems a little gruff at first, but I assure she is the best part of the entire store. She is incredibly knowledgeable and I've never felt like I've annoyed her by asking too many questions, like I sometimes do when I'm at chain stores. I also haven't been met with a blank look when I ask about less common things, like horsehair braid or an unfamilar technique on a vintage pattern. On my last trip in, she remembered me enough to ask if I was able to finish my dress. The only word of warning I can give you is if you go in, expect to spend a good amount of time in there because there is so much to look at. Average size selection of fabrics. Not a lot of different solids. More prints. The lady there was rude. Didn't acknowledge me for the 1st 10mins then she said 'did u need help?' I told her I was looking for solid brown fabric, 'well you'll have to look around for that.' Then when I checked out she pointed out there was a bunch of holes all over the fabric I had chosen so she said I'll discount u for it. I pulled out my card and she sees $ in my wallet and says 'you don't have cash? I mean, I just discounted you.' Really lady? I heard she was rude but decided to give her a shot. They were all right. She was plain RUDE! not worth my business with that attitude! read more

The woman who owns & opperates this location will not only help you with the finding the materials for project you are attempting but she also provide teaching lessons & her experience to those who have little or no experietice in the art of sewing, she treats everyone with kindness & respect. I was apprehensive about this store based on the reviews. I was trying to use my serger for the first time and needed help threading it and setting the stitches. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to simply bring in my machine, and received a lesson on the spot. $25 for the lesson (WELL worth the money for all the tips I got!). It has excellent selection for a small, local store. There are adorable nursery prints and fabrics, diaper making fabrics, laminates, lots of notions, a large selection of buttons and trim, and all the standards plus some great extras like pre-cut cuffs for clothes. There is an area in the back where she gives sewing/serging lessons. I had an excellent experience, and I plan to go back soon. I'm not sure if they accept credit cards, I paid cash. read more

Wow John, Sorry you're poor wife had such a bad experience there. She's lucky she has jeans to wear! My experience at Sew Nice Fabrics has always been fine. I have been a customer and have had many things altered by her with no complaints. Yes, the owner can be a little grumpy but we all can, and she's old what do you want. She taught my 2 daughters how to sew when they were around 10 (they are now 16 and 21) and she was like a Grandmother to them. I guess as with anyone, you get what you give. read more

Visited the store this morning. Very nice older woman(Cathy I believe) asked me if I needed help as soon as I approached the counter. I was recovering a fabric chest, and she was helpful and did not want me to be charged for excess fabric. Store has decent selections and a lot of hard to find sewing items. Apparently she does mending and repair work, and I have several items I will bring in for her to work on. Very positive experience. read more

I went there to have a skirt taken in and asked the owner how much it would be. She quoted it at no more than $15 which was great because I got the skirt on sale for a great price at TJMaxx. She did not ask me to try it on but took my measurements. I thought that was kind of odd but trusted her expertise. A week went by, then two, and then three before she finished taking in the skirt. During that time, I had stopped in to check in on it and had called her. She said she needed more time each time I checked in. I had no problem, understanding that she said she had gotten sick. Finally I called another time and she confirmed it was finished and that I could pick it up. I asked her for a final price and she told me $25 after she originally told me it would cost no more than $15! When I questioned the price, she said, "That's what you get for buying the skirt at TJMaxx. Do you want the skirt or what?". It's not about the price but how she spoke to me. She was so rude and mean, even after I remained patient and understanding. I would never go back there. read more

My wife dropped off a pair of "7 for All Mankind" designer jeans ($109 purchase price) and asked for a "designer hem keeping the original hem". Several weeks later, she picked the jeans up and the original hem had been chopped off and a standard hem had been made to the jeans. The woman running the store was incredibly rude and unapologetic to my wife, and refused to refund our money for the work ($10 for the hem) and she refused to replace/refund the cost of the jeans. We now see several extremely poor reviews online for her shop, and wish we had seen them prior to bringing our business to her. The woman claims that she did not know what "a designer hem with the original hem" meant, and that my wife should have shown her when she dropped them off. However, the woman did not ask my wife to show her, and feigned that she knew exactly what my wife wanted. We just cannot believe that she took the job if she was unclear as to what a designer hem keeping the original hem was. My wife will not wear the jeans at this point. They are ruined (although the woman at the shop claims they are "fine"). DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE FOR TAILORING!!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more
