My daughter just finished a sewing camp with Sew Inspired and absolutely loved it. Over the three days, she made a tote bag, travel pillow, shirt, and drawstring bag. When I picked her up each day, I saw her using a sewing machine on her own and she would excitedly come to show me what she made. Laura is simply the best. We came for a Mom and Me sesh and Laura was so patient. She had all the materials ready so we could seamlessly complete our tote bags within two hours. We also came back for my daughter's birthday party. Laura prepared everything for 9 girls and also had candles on hand for the cake. I am so happy we discovered Laura Prince at Sew Inspired. I would definitely recommend this amazing sewing program to all my friends and family! Laura took on the challenge of teaching my new-to-sewing Girl Scouts at the same time as helping develop new skills for a girl that has experience. We were looking to learn how to sew a simple pillowcase but ended up with a second sewn craft also! The reason that this place is so special is because Laura has complete confidence that the kids can do this. She's not looking over their shoulders to make sure they're doing it right, she doesn't worry if things are sewn a little "creatively", and she definitely isn't bothered if the kids cause the machines to freak out. Just had my daughter's birthday party at Sew Inspired. It was a unique theme for a birthday party that all the girls were excited to participate in. Laura and her teaching assistants were great with the girls. Such a positive first experience with sewing. Laura has a room to the side where we set up for the birthday food and cake. She kindly let me come the night before to setup and decorate so everything was smooth on the day of the party. She was so reasonable to work with on the event coordination. My daughter and I throughly enjoyed the 2-hour mommy and me session together. We each made a tote bag. So cute! The teacher Terry was very patient and kind for us first time sewers. The owner was very nice and welcoming as well. The process was fun, we started from scratch-selecting fabrics and came up with designs for the bag. Such a nice place to spend a summer morning! My daughter and two of her friends attended a class last night and they all had a BLAST! They can not wait to attend a camp or another class. SEW FUN! I bought my first sewing machine and wanted to learn hands on, not from a manual. Laura is spunky and fun, but most importantly, a great teacher! She taught me the basics and now I feel like I could sew just about anything. These lessons make a great gift for the woman (wife, daughter, sister, mother) in your life. I first read about Sew Inspired in the Best of San Diego magazine and was so excited to find this place was across the street from my house! I was given a sewing machine but didn't even know how to thread it. Laura walked me through all the beginning stages in a private lesson and helped to inspire me on my next projects. I made an apron and recently went back to her so she could teach me the perfect hem (to keep the good bottom of designer jeans.) Laura also does children's weekly classes and camps and doesn't charge for the fabric that the kids make their funky designs with. read more

My 2nd grade son is really interested in sewing. Yes, I know. Not your regular boy activity, so I was delighted to see that Sew Inspired was offering a one day "Critter Creature" camp. My guy had such a good time that he's now gone back for a three day camp and really loves it. The teachers are so very patient and kind and he feels absolutely welcomed there. He made items that were appropriately "boyish" (a water bottle holder and pajama pants) and he's really learned a lot and has been so encouraged. As a complete sewing newbie, I have always been afraid to even touch a sewing machine. After taking Laura's 3 introductory classes, I now own my own machine and have been enjoying having the ability to fix my own clothes and make little odds and ends for the kids! I never knew how much fun sewing could be until I found Sew Inspired! I think their classes especially stand out because they are so different from anything that one would typically expect for a "sewing class". They use fun and colorful fabrics, lots of embellishments and Laura has tons of clever and novel ideas about ways to make things unique. Found this gem online. I'm 45 and have taken some classes but was interested in a private lesson. I booked a 2 hour session with Leah and loved every minute of it. She taught me about tension, threading bobbins, selecting correct thread and I created a beautiful tote to take home. I was able to keep the pattern and I'm hoping to create another tote at home. Leah is a very patient enthusiastic instructor with great insight and plenty of patience. She is amazing. I am definitely coming back to try another project. I've gone into Sew Inspired Sewing Lounge for a birthday and it was so fun! Loved it. So I had Laura come into my classroom and do a sewing project with my second grade students. It was so memorable and the experience was amazing! The kids absolutely loved their "Ugly Dolls" that they made, and I know they will never forget it. Because they made their dolls themselves, they took complete ownership and it was really special. I will have Laura come in every year and this will become an experience kids can look forward to in second grade now. So cool! read more

I've been wanting to learn how to sew for awhile now but was having a hard time finding a place around San Diego that offered classes and wasn't a place that only taught how to make quilts for Grandchildren. I saw the Sew Inspired booth at the 2009 Best of San Diego party (voted Best Place to Embrace Your Inner Designer)and I was so excited that I found a sewing place that seemed so modern and chic. For my birthday I received a gift certificate here for a private lesson and decided to go check it out. It was awesome! (Sew Inspired is not your typical stuffy sewing store.)Two hours later I left with a really cute tote bag that I had actually sewn! And it looked good! My boyfriend had assumed that I was going to just make something not too complex, like a napkin, and he couldn't believe that I had made an actual bag! haha Laura, the woman who owns the sewing lounge, is so friendly and knows what she is doing when it comes to sewing, alterations and interior decorating. She is a very good teacher and goes over every step with you along the way yet she lets you do all the work so you can really learn how to sew on your own. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to "Embrace their Inner Designer" and have fun along the way! read more
