Buwahahahahahaha! Before Covid-19 I used to go to this place called - "Sheridan Laundry" on Young Street (MAHALO Bruddah Peter Y. fo' da hook up about Sheridan Laundry) to get my pants altered. The nice Korean lady who worked at Sheridan Laundry was very good at her craft, and her prices for alterations were very reasonable. Unfortunately during Covid-19 her business tanked, and she no longer does alterations. From there, I found another alteration business on Pensacola Street, but the prices that the lady changes to alter a pair of pants slowly crept up to $14.00. Yikes! Linh's Alterations was highly recommended, so let's give it a try! I knew where this place was as it has been at the same location along Ke'eaumoku St, between Kinau and Beretania and next to Mai Lan Vietnamese restaurant for decades! There's dedicated parking stalls on the side of the building, in the same lot as the Texaco gas station. Look for the Keeaumoku Pawn / Linh's Alteration sign. It's the same place! But it's definitely more so an alteration place than pawn shop. My wife has been here several times for repairs and alterations. This time I needed repairs! One of my newer Aloha Shirts had a seam splitting after just two washes, and it was all sold out at stores and online, so I wasn't able to exchange! The inside was clean and spacious. Linh was very friendly, nice, and an excellent listener. She definitely has very sharp eyes. Also, she is quite efficient! My shirt was finished in just a couple of days. Shirt was clean, neatly folded, and stitched very nicely. It was $15 plus tax, which was definitely reasonable. It wasn't a big area and it might've been a "simple" fix. Overall, I was happy with my shirt and the whole process, and will definitely bring any clothes that need repairs or alterations to Linh's! It's not a surprise she is contracted and trusted by several high to mid luxury brands. Location is convenient and parking is free and available.

I put on the pants for her, she measured out/confirmed where I wanted them to hit on me (just off the floor), and pinned them. Great - I didn't expect any issues with a simple hem on pants. It was $15 for a very nice double hem in similar style to the original. Then, we got to the shirt. She questioned my request to make the armholes just a little bigger (they were a little tight and constricting on a sleeveless blouse, but I had kept the shirt bc the bigger size was too big everywhere else, and it was on sale so I figured I could have the armholes adjusted). I explained this best I could to her, and she pointed out that the right armhole was actually ok. She was worried that she shouldn't make them much bigger. Then, we both looked at the left armhole, and it was quite snug. She said, let's look at it when you take it off. She compared the two, and indeed, the left opening was not the same as the right. So, we agreed that she should make the left the same as the right. I figured this strange request would be pricier than a routine-type request, but it was only $5! She filled out the slip, and told me I could pick them up the very next day! I expected at least a week wait, if not more. I was able to catch her right before she took her lunch the next day to get my pants and shirt. Both look great. I will definitely be back as I tend to have a lot of alterations done on my clothes.

When I came to get the dress hemmed, Nori did not pin up the bottom like a tailor normally would, and instead proceeded to chop the extra fabric off with scissors. When I came to pick up the dress, it was obviously too short. I brought this concern up, as the dress was easily hitting three inches off the ground, and all that she said was " I can't fix it. Sometimes you need it off the ground for dirt". She proceeded to charge full price for the service. I will never be coming back here! On top of all of this, parking is very difficult in the area and the actual alterations spot is hard to find.

I held onto my Husqvarna Viking mechanical sewing machine, which I got for myself during my early teens, until after COVID-19 and only used it for general home sewing and for making filter-cloth face masks for family use. However, a couple of years ago, I turned in my "vintage" sewing machine since I rarely used it, but at least managed to hand-stitch whatever patching or button replacement on either my husband's clothes or mine. However, because most of our clothes are made from stretchy materials, I needed to find either a sewist or a tailor who has a serger sewing machine, which is used to create stretchy seams or overcast fabric edges to prevent fraying, after discovering holes in mis-stitched seams in a couple of recently purchased garments. I knew that even if I had kept my sewing machine, I would not be able to finish seams on stretchy fabrics and was too lazy to process returns to the retailer for such minor repairs, so I decided to take my garments into nearby Crossroads Fashions Alterations. We parked in one of the stalls in front of the businesses in this building and strode into the shop, where we were immediately greeted by the affable sewist/owner. We signed into her daily DROP OFF Log as we brought out the garments to show her the re-stitching needed. The sewist/owner remarked on the high-quality knit of the garments' material and confidently assured me that she would not only mend the mis-stitched areas but also reinforce the entire seam in question. Also, she showed us that she had matching thread colors on hand. After she quoted us a very affordable price for the repair work and scheduled a week-later pickup date, I told her I wasn't in a rush, so the one-week time frame was fine. We returned a week later, signed into this business' PICK UP Log while identifying ourselves with the claim slip. She brought out our garments and allowed us to "inspect" her work, which we deemed excellent and could not even tell where repairs were done. The cost for repair was very affordable, and the one-week pick-up time was reasonable. I would not hesitate to return to Crossroad Fashions Alterations for any garment mending or alterations in the future.
