I suspect the glowing review by the previous writer may have been an attempt at self promotion on the part of the proprieter. My husband and I visited this pub for a meal yesterday and really wish that we hadn't. The one star given was for the young bar maids who were pleasant although seemed embarrassed by the food they were serving and rightly so.
We waited 40 minutes from the time of ordering to receive our meals, the pub was very quiet and had three members of staff working, it's a small place so such a long wait was unnecessary. My husband ordered cumberland sausages with mash and onion gravy. When it finally arrived he was confronted with bog standard supermarket sausages which were completely uncooked. On closer inspection it seemed the mash and sausages had been microwaved before being placed under the grill for a minute to give the illusion that they had been cooked. I am in no doubt that had my husband eaten his meal he would have been violently ill they were completely raw in the middle.
I ordered poached salmon in hollaindaise sauce with chips. The fish had been nuked. It actually didn't really even taste like fish but like really chewy chicken! The hollaindaise sauce seemed to be fat and butter, there was no flavour, no herbs, no creamy sauce. The chips were a bit greasy but ok. At £9 though this is really not what you expect.
I work in a bar/restaurant so I'm generally very sympathetic to the realities of delivering good meals quickly but our experience was diabolical. In the end my husband didn't have anything we had run out of time. In fairness we didn't have to pay for the meal we sent back but the waitress came back claiming that the sausages were fine (she was only young and had clearly been instructed to do so by the proprieter, so not her fault), which was slightly galling and frankly if this happened where I work a full refund would have been given.
