Nearly $180 to use this gym for ONE WEEK. Absolutely ridiculous…read more I was in Dayton for one week on a work trip, and unfortunately Snap Fitness was the closest gym to where I was staying. Since I knew I'd be working out every day, I figured buying a month membership would make more sense than paying for seven separate day passes. Huge mistake. I paid around $30 for the membership plus roughly a $50 signup/one-time fee, so with everything included I was already close to $90 just to use this gym for one week. Expensive, but I knew that going in and accepted it. What I did NOT expect was how unbelievably difficult this place would be to deal with. First, this gym was NEVER staffed. And I mean never. I went during the exact hours they posted as their staffed hours, and nobody was there. I called repeatedly trying to get into the gym and deal with my access card, and not once did anyone answer the phone. It genuinely felt like this place was operating with zero employees. Then came the cancellation nightmare. On the day I left Dayton, I was already at the airport when I emailed them saying I wanted to cancel so I wouldn't continue getting charged. They told me I needed to return the access card. I explained that I had ALREADY LEFT OHIO and wouldn't be coming back. Their solution? Mail the card back to them or get charged $30 for a little access card. But apparently that wasn't even the worst part. I then found out that because of their cancellation policy, I basically would have needed to cancel the membership the same day I signed up if I wanted to avoid being responsible for another month's payment. What exactly is the point of selling a month membership if you essentially have to cancel it immediately to prevent another month from being billed? I'll acknowledge that I signed the contract, and I should have read every line of the cancellation policy more carefully. That's on me. But a business can have something buried in a contract and it can still be an absolutely terrible customer experience. The cherry on top was getting a COLLECTIONS CALL afterward saying I owed roughly another $90. So after everything, my ONE WEEK of workouts at Snap Fitness ended up costing me somewhere around $170-$180. Almost $180. For seven days. And when this whole ordeal was happening, good luck getting help. The location wouldn't answer its phone, wasn't staffed when it claimed it would be, and I couldn't find any useful nationwide customer-service number where an actual person could resolve the situation. I've traveled plenty and used gyms away from home. I have never dealt with a gym membership experience this unnecessarily difficult. If you're visiting Dayton and just need somewhere to work out temporarily, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Pay for day passes somewhere else. Drive farther. Use a hotel gym. Do literally anything before signing up here for a short stay. The gym itself could have had the greatest equipment on Earth and it wouldn't make up for this experience. Charging someone nearly $180 for what amounted to one week of gym access, combined with nonexistent staffing, unanswered calls, an absurd cancellation process, an access-card fee, and ultimately sending the balance to collections is enough for me to say: This is easily the worst experience I've ever had with a gym. I would never sign up for a Snap Fitness membership again.

The Dayton Woman's Club occupies one of those rare downtown buildings that still feels like a house, with its tall mansard roofline, deep-set windows, and the kind of architectural confidence that comes from surviving multiple eras of city growth. Standing in front, you get a sense of how many gatherings, lectures, teas, and civic conversations have happened behind those doors. The historical marker gives some more background. It is marker number 29-57 and it was erected in 2018. It reads, "Dayton Woman's Club Community leader Robert Steele built the house that became the Dayton Woman's Club between 1845 and 1850. Napoleon Bonaparte Darst, a wealthy merchant, bought the residence in 1861. After the Civil War he refurbished the structure, updating it to the then-popular Second Empire style. In 1916, Darst's heirs sold the house to the newly-formed Dayton Woman's Club. Mrs. Marie Kumler (1856-1925), first president of the Club and the Dayton Federation of Women's Clubs led efforts to raise the $25,000 to purchase the property. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and the Club celebrated 100 years here in 2016." Even on the busiest summer holidays, I have never struggled to find parking. There is a really nice fenced in dog area, as well as as a dog section of the beach. If it was closer, we would probably be there a lot this summer as it's a great way to cool down.

I'm not a hiker, but I found the trail to be a somewhat easy hike for a senior and the walkways and guardrails were well-maintained. There are lots of benches to sit on to take in nature, darling native plants, and plenty of interesting facts to read about along the trail. We saw photos and explanations of how the Little Miami River was used to power grist and cotton mills, paper factories, and breweries. In the information building, we were greeted by the very friendly ranger, who gave us a botanical identification brochure (it would have been very useful during the hike) and introduced us to the turtles in their enclosure. The preserve was quiet, and we enjoyed ourselves so much. This is just the start of our adventure of the Clifton Gorge, and there are so many more activities to explore. We hope to be back during another season when the water in the gorge is flowing more rapidly.
