They have up to date curriculums, free breakfast and lunch for every student, good sports available for all grade levels, after school clubs for older kids, and a fair choice of extra curricular activities, like: dance, music, pe, karate, ect. I love that the campus is fenced in. Teachers are nice and happy. Really great for the kids and push reading. They have excelled my kids even though they are at a more excelled level then their peers. They don't get lost in the class but encouraged with harder materials. The downfalls: bus transportation is not organized. Don't show up at stops on time. Sometimes an hour late. The drivers don't control the kids very well either. The campus looks run down. Playgrounds are small and no field. The cafeteria is outdoors. Very hot during the summer and very cold during the winter. The outdoor portion only works for two months out of the school year. The office does not answer their phones and when voicemails are left they do not return your calls. Hard to get a hold of on the phone. In person is fine.

We have been attending SMB for over 10 years, and we couldn't be happier. Weekly curriculum includes art, Spanish, PE, science and music. Extra-curricular activities are available for EVERY interest! Band, theater, choir, orchestra, chess, robotics, ballet, sports, STEM, to name a few. Junior high students can choose from many electives, such as forensic science, anatomy and physiology, personal finance, sewing, improvisation, screen writing, and many, many others! The teachers are exceptional and truly care about the success of EACH and every student. My older children are academically doing well, and were challenged by SMB's curriculum. They are now succeeding in a Catholic high school. My younger children struggled to return to grade level after Covid-19 quarantine (SMB returned to in-person option in Aug of 2020, thank goodness!) The teachers and support staff dedicated much time to getting my children back up to par. I was touched! The school has math and reading specialists and a counselor present on campus. The students practice the sacraments regularly; they attend mass at least weekly, as well as regular confession and adoration. Priests can be seen regularly attending morning prayer, and the sisters are employees of the school as teachers, school nurse and playground monitors. I love having religious priests and nuns present daily in the students' school day. The principal is a phenomenal leader! Lastly, the parent community is unbeatable; very supportive of each other and prays for the students, staff and each other with weekly rosaries and monthly adoration, and bible studies. It's safest to go after school hours for a no fuss, no wait experience. The courts are in pretty good shape. The nets on a few courts could use some adjusting or maintenance, and the lighting could definitely use an upgrade, but I guess new tennis court lights are just not in the budget this year. I'm not exactly sure when lights out occur, but the lights have always been on while I'm playing. 11:30pm was the latest I've ever stayed and the lights were still on at that time! Overall, I always have a great time playing here, so gotta love on this court!

The head of school, Stephanie Terrell, is one of the worst, most contradictory administrators I have ever had the chore of emailing weekly for an entire school year. She protects her teachers with a fierce bias and will not hold anyone accountable for the simple reason that its not worth her time because a teacher is retiring. Stephanie would rather put a parent on a "communication plan" to restrict their ability to ask questions and have transparent dialogue. BASIS teachers have repeatedly told parents that the children are irresponsible - such as at back to school night before they even know a child's name - and then spend the whole year discriminating against that child because they are young and can't possibly know how to advocate for themselves. God forbid the teachers actually take the time to teach logical, straight forward executive functioning skills without confusing both parents and students by over complicating everything and poorly communicating. My 1st grader had a stack of papers 9.5 inches high by the end of the school year. It had been so frustrating to try talking to anyone at the school about how much value paper pushing provides, that I actually did the math myself: my student had to have his butt in a seat quietly doing a worksheet every 14 minutes of the school day. How is this a demonstration of rigorous, advanced academics taught with hands-on learning techniques that promote problem solving? The only problem my kid had to solve was how to not let one toe fall out of line. His teachers spoke to him like he was dumb and took off academic points if he forgot to put his name or class on any of the several hundred papers he had to churn out. Then, they couldn't even keep track of what they had to grade, so they marked it missing and penalized my students grade, blaming it on him for not turning in his work. Again, it's his problem because he's an irresponsible child. They don't care about your student as a human. They care about their statistics. Better off going to CUSD where they max the classes at 24 kids (not 32 as at BASIS), they connect with you and your family on a personal level, and they don't try to shove valueless busywork in their face throughout the day to prove the kids are learning for their own inflated statistics.

I had to withdrawal my 8 year old daughter because I did not feel safe for her to finish the semester and I'm still very upset that this school not only took opportunities away from my daughter, but also caused her a great deal of problems with her self esteem. My daughter attended ALA since 2021 after relocating to Pinal county I must say this has been the worst school experience. I strongly agree with the other review someone posted stating this school is ran like a business. 1st communication is HORRIBLE. Last school year was the icing on the cake. My daughter's class went through 3 different 5th grade teachers. Students behaviors were out of control and a lot of the students regressed academically. When they finally got teacher #3 mid year it was difficult to communicate with her. I sometimes copied the principal and assistant principal on my emails to her and still sometimes NO ONE would respond not even the principals. There were incidents that would happen involving my daughter and another student and I would receive no notification about it until my daughter told me. This other student my daughter had a number of incidents with and this student didn't only have issues with my daughter she had issues with a number of other students in the class but the school never did their part to remove the problem student. Another thing I've noticed is the teachers my daughter had over the years are parents of multiple children of their own who don't seem to have a lot of time for anything else outside of their teaching hours. One time I had a teacher rush through an after school phone conference because she had to take her child somewhere. One teacher had really bad attendance due to always having sick children, one teacher told me she couldn't do ANY conferences after her working hours ended at 3:30pm. Just no flexibility for being a full time working parent myself. Their testing methods here have changed recently and it's a very inconvenient process now. All tests and quizzes are done on Chromebooks in class so once a test is completed my daughter never got to see it graded to know what topics she wasn't grasping or where she needed to improve. They just got a grade. I was told there is no way to get testing results. Another example of this place being ran like a business without the parents or students in mind. Another thing is I have NEVER known a school to investigate an incident, interrogate and discipline a child THEN notify the parents after everything is said and done (IF/when they decide to notify you). My husband has tried to arrange time to come to the school to speak with all parties involved after a incident and see camera footage but apparently they don't allow that and any time you want to come in to speak with the principal about anything you have to schedule a appointment. Again sounds like a business My daughter has described some horrible school lunches from here and she is not a picky eater. Don't rely on the lunch menu calendar either because it's a 50% chance they'll serve something different or run out of what they were supposed to serve. No veggie options either. The after school program sucks. It's just as dysfunctional and ghetto trying to get in the building after hours with no one answering the door. Very little supervision, no structure. As a result we decided to move my daughter to ride the bus after school. I will say the bus driver staffing has gotten a lot better over the last school year but just know there are times you will receive a text notification stating your child's bus route is canceled for the day if there is no sub driver available. School events are chaotic and dysfunctional. This is a small campus with an overcrowded amount of kids so overcrowded that the entire 6th grade has moved to the high school. (My daughter's class had between 30-35 students). Every event is over crowded with no type of organization as to what's going on. Oh and by the way it is out of their dress code violation for any male student to have long hair which I find very sexiest and a form of discrimination.. so glad my son won't have to go through this!
