Very convenient for dropping off electronics. Friendly service. No forms. They take various…read moreelectronics, including a nonfunctional portable AC unit. They dont take appliances however. Highly recommended.

The place talks about some sort of "Nerd Candy" shop or something similar, which makes you think it's the business next door... but it's not. So you go in and ask about the "Nerd Candy", and if they sell candy at the tech recycling shop, but... it's just the name of their company. Then you walk back out the door and see that the same company has TWO different signs out front for TWO company names, but it's both in the same doorway and building. Finally, there's a sign that says "drop offs, use the back entrance" but this makes it sound like if you have an appointment to drop something off and leave with no explanation, you should use the back entrance, and as I had no appointment, I used the front entrance, which I got told to use the back entrance for. Better wording, like "if you have an appointment, use this entrance, if you don't, use the back" would make far more sense, but this is also a place that calls itself a brand name that sounds exactly like a candy shop at the same time as it sounds like a recycling shop. But the actual job they do, they did immaculately. No complaints there.

The price difference is very different-they know it and play games. There isn't a sign that says you need an ID, but you do. The Allan Company is located just inside the road off Convoy that leads into the Miramar landfill. The lot is quite run down and there is little signage. There is a small bungalow with a window for you to speak with a teller. The lot had plenty of parking on a Friday afternoon. The Allan Company does not take helium tanks for disposal. I was told by an employee there that the tank I brought them would explode. I called the general city Environmental Services line and confirmed that the Allan Company does not take helium tanks (even empty) and that they have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. As someone who works with hazardous wastes and compressed gasses on a normal basis I am confused how an empty helium tank with a hole in the container wall could explode or be considered hazardous waste, but nonetheless I could not recycle it. Would be nice if their website specifically said they do not accept helium tanks for recycling.

Miramar Landfill - FYI: If it's over a certain $ amount in recyclables, you'll have to wait to cash in a check next day.

It feels strange to write a review of a landfill, or "the dump" as we call it, but after our…read morerecent visit, I had a few things that I wanted to share. Now, I have been to the landfill with my husband a few times over the years, usually when we have furniture to get rid of that is too damaged to see or donate. Our most recent visit was about two weeks ago. Our old patio furniture was disintegrating, and we had discolored cushions to get rid of. We tried to figure our a less bothersome or costly way to get rid of it, but, alas, we ended up at the landfill. The first thing we noticed was that the price was increased to $69 for cars and pickups. I thought that was super expensive, a large increase from our previous visit. Anyway, the landfill, as you may imagine, it massive. The roads are mostly dirt roads once you get inside. They are hilyl, have speed bumps and ditches. They also wet the roads to keep the dust from being a problem, so we ended up driving through water. You have to watch the signs carefully to figure out where to go. Once we got to to the area to unload, it was unclear where to go. The signs directed us one way, but the other people were unloading on the other side of the mounds of trash. My husband opted to follow the others, which is lucky, as we otherwise would have gotten in the way of the work trucks. At first, the people directing us to unload were no help at all. We had to guess where to pull up. Later, one guy came by and told us that we could just drop the items at the end of the truck and didn't need to move it our into the pile. That was helpful, as we then unloaded very quickly. My husband had lamented that he often ends up with flat tires after going to this landfill. Sure enough, a few days later, he found a screw lodged in his tire. It really could have come from anyway, but that is a rough road and there is lots of junk near the unloading area. I would not recommend going unless you have a truck, as there is no way my car would have made it. All in all, going to the dump is never fun. However, sometimes you just have no other ways to get rid of stuff.
