Today, walking in for a fresh pet food item other HEBs have carried in both Harlingen and McAllen. Even Walmarts carry it. I can't even get my dogs their food in town, I have to drive 30 minutes each way to get their food. An Employee even referred to the store as a "ghetto" location for not having certain items other stores have.

Another great find are the many liquor stores here that offer very cheap bottles of your familiar liquor! All, up and down the main strip your going to find a wide array of merchants selling everything from authentic Mexican textiles, shoes, boots, Mexican candy stores, clothes, Mexican pottery, jewlery, souvenirs, curiosities, fine leather products such as purses, etc and so much MORE. Servises such as spas and cosmologist salons are a big thing here as well. Don't forget THE FOOD! You'll find many restaurants serving authentic Mexican food and seafood at a fraction of the price of what you would have paid for it right across the border! One of our favorite features of shopping in Nuevo Progresso is the many, many bars that are in every other store serving up delicious margaritas and your favorite beers and cocktails. I watched the technician pour 5 quarts of oil in and start my truck, letting it run for 2to3 minutes. He then started looking in a book. I then watched as he added another 10 quarts of oil. I asked the technician what was going on and he said he didn't know how much oil it held, and it wasn't on their computer. I asked for a manager and explained they had possibly damaged my engine, she did not seemed concerned, and threatened to call security for me taking pictures for documentation. At approximately 8:50 I personally checked oil level they hurriedly rang up my bill, no apology given or explained. I paid for this service (?) At 8:56 am. What a joke.!!!!

Pretty much stop using public restroom at the supermarkets from there on. Their grocery section is not as fresh as the other location either. They slso have hot foods ready, like barbacoa on weekends and fresh tortillas daily. It has a huge parking lot so you can drive around for hours to get that perfect spot! The produce department is not huge, but adequate. The meat department is pretty nice. I have yet to use any butcher services, but I'm sure they can accommodate. My only real issue with this place is the lines at checkout. There always seems to be long lines. They do try to organize the way they move with a manager usually directing people and sometimes even opening up extra registers. The lines back up mostly in the evenings when they have only 2 or 3 registers open. Overall, a clean and decently stocked small town HEB.
