In October 2024, a young R&M service tech performed maintenance on my three HVAC units. Tech was here four hours, about twice the time of my last 30 service calls. I had to explain the three electronic air cleaners and how to clean them. Tech replaced a thermostat. The thermostat on Amazon costs $66.00. It is a simple thermostat, not WiFi enabled and not listed on invoice correctly. Charge on invoice is $837.93. The invoice lists the thermostat as WiFi enabled, Lennox M30, Carrier COR, ecobee4, Nest or another brand. Tech also replaced a low voltage wire on an exterior unit. Took him 20 minutes. Charge on invoice is for two hours at $408.80. I called to complain to the owner or manager. He had no desire to discuss and blew me off, saying this is their senior service tech. Shocked me as he looks mid to late twenties. I feel disrespected and ripped off. How can he be their most experienced. His invoice has inaccurate thermostat and exorbitant prices. Did this tech see me as an old lady he could rip off? Today I switched my three HVAC maintenance contracts to Roger L Newman HVAC of Maryville where I feel honesty prevails. For 12 years, Roger L Newman installed numerous new HVAC systems and maintained HVAC systems at my rental apartment buildings. In those 12 years, I felt well served and never felt ripped off. Believe I deserve a refund and an apology but am not holding my breath. read more

R & M climate HVAC technicians Matthew (Matt) and Jeremiah, installed a new RUUD downstairs combo natural gas heat and central air conditioning unit beginning at 7 am on Monday April 4, 2022 at left side of my 2 story 3000 sq ft house right next to gas meter and chimney and existing Lennox new upstairs attic fan unit. As soon as they pulled the huge old Lennox box unit away from against the lower crawl space opening of my house, they smelled extremely strong smell of leaking natural gas from KUB. They immediately stopped all work and ran around my house to tell me to call KUB emergency tech to close off my gas meter beside house and lockout/tagout the unit till my black iron pipe natural gas leaks were fixed. I called KUB immediately and their tech arrived within 5 minutes and closed and locked down their natural gas meter against my house right beside the new RUUD combo gas heat, central air unit being installed! I truly believe that HVAC R & M Technicians MATT (Matthew) and Jeremiah actually saved my life from a natural gas explosion within my home where I was at the time. Tech Matt removed the 2 inch black iron 12 inch long pipe going from the outside KUB gas meter through a metal sleeve into the crawl space under my house and it was so badly corroded that there were many leaks that you could see through this thick black iron corroded so badly it was leaking profusely!! Matt went to Home Depot, replaced this main 2 inch black iron pipe with brand new one. Matt and Jeremiah both checked to see if gas piping held 10 lb of air pressure for 15 min and it did not hold up-still leaking. Matt did not charge me for this work -he also spent a few hours repairing 6 to 8 other black iron elbow joint natural gas leaks in my black iron gas pipes under crawl space. They informed me to call a Master Plumber at Tennessee Standard --Daniel Richardson who came out Wednesday at 3 pm and again Thursday at 3:30pm to fix one more leak under house and one leak in my other upstairs HVAC unit replacing small section of black iron down thru the wooden attic floor that was leaking. Called KUB to unlock and turn natural gas back on and had R&M climate send another tech out to wind up a switch to get my gas heat working inside my home!! Very pleased with Matthew and Jeremiah ESPECIALLY! Tremendous job guys! I thank you so very much for saving my life and for your great professional work. Requested service on my unit, the technician came out quickly and diagnosed the problem, it was leak in the indoor coil. under warranty for parts and they ordered parts and scheduled an appointment to instal. $2300 for labor and Freon, only they couldn't make the appointment had to reschedule from Thursday to Saturday at 10am. We should have been on for Friday. So they then call Saturday morning to say bad weather and can't make it. The rain was gone buy 10am. So another week out appointment. Wow who ever heard of moving my appointment another week out. if you can't make the first appointment I should be the next available. So the wife called them and said forget the repairs and we are now looking for new unit and contractor to install. read more

I have used R&M here in Knoxville, TN for over 10 years. I always have found their service to be prompt, efficient, and professional. This past Friday I arrived home late afternoon to a cold house, and, when my very brief troubleshooting didn't help, I called R&M and a technician came within a couple of hours. A part had to be ordered on Monday and was installed on Tuesday morning. The technician thought that the problem might have been that the system had not been properly grounded; he ground it properly and also installed a surge protector. When the office staff tell me that a technician will arrive within a 2-hour window, the tech has always arrived during that time. I also appreciate that the tech calls when they are en route from their previous call, giving me usually a 20-30 minute "heads up." read more

I had them come in and quote a multi unit project in my home. After two visits the sales person gave me a verbal estimate and said he'd be back with another person to "verify a couple of things".....he showed up by himself and told me that his boss had calculated that the job would be over $4,300 more than he had told me. Total waste of time trying to deal with R&M. Their business model appears to be to charge so much that the customer has to finance the work through their "Advantage" program. read more

We had them come to do routine maintenance on air conditioner/heating system. The system was operating perfectly when we called them. Without notice we were engulfed by an aggressive sales pitch by a sales representative who showed up unannounced and uninvited. The adequacy of our present system (originally installed by R & M Knoxville before it became part of a national company) was downplayed. Actually, about eight expensive "necessary repairs" became the only focus of attention, along with the advantages of buying a completely new system together with one of an elaborate selection of maintenance programs -- very expensive and interminable. The idea is that they buy a new unit "for you," but they retain ownership of it. They lease it to you in exchange for assuming responsibility for maintaining it for 10 years. After 10 years you pay for any necessary repairs. Clearly, during those first 10 years it is unlikely that any repairs will be necessary, but even if they were necessary they would be paid for (to R & M!) by the original warranty. R & M charges you and is also covered by the warranty. Here we have gaslighting that is so brazen that it's not suspected. When the warranty runs out R & M has no more responsibility, but they keep charging you in perpetuity. And if you sell your house you have to get the new owner to assume the obligation to continue to comply with the terms of the crazy contract that YOU signed (so good luck in selling your house!). It is a classic scam. If you Google "HVAC scams" you'll see that it is the first one listed. These people should be exposed and condemned as predatory conmen. I distrusted the maintenance that I originally called them to do. When they never sent me a receipt for my $69, I phoned them repeatedly requesting an invoice that gives an itemized description of what they did. I even spoke to the manager. They came into my elderly mother-in-law's house and told her she needed a whole new furnace. Disconnected the gas lines and tried to force her into a vulnerable position to buy a new unit. We got a second opinion and as suspected, her system was flawless. These folks are not to be trusted. No follow-up call from anyone in management to discuss. We were charged $254 for 3lb of 410a. Five days later technician returned and charged additional $423 to weld leak and add another 4lbs R410A of freon. My wife told the technician to check for leak the first visit but he did not requiring the additional visit. This is either under trained workers or plain dishonesty to drive up service calls. R&M Climate Services recently did a replacement installation of a split a/c and has heat system. Their work was quick and clean. It involved removing the old system from an upstairs closet and an outside compressor. The installation included setting the new outside compressor, setting in the closet unit with a new air supply/ vent through the attic and roof. All the workers were neat and courteous. I would highly recommend R&M for your next heating and cooling system work. read more

Had this company come look at my HVAC unit recently, I already knew what was wrong with my unit from someone else looking at it about a year ago. I told them exactly what the issue was and they told me they recommended replacing the unit, but offered to take a look at it to verify that was my problem. I said sure, and after taking a look they told me exactly what I already knew was correct. Then I was told I owed $165, just for the 5 minutes it took him to look at my unit and tell me what I already knew. I understand a service charge for coming out, but $165? That's absolutely downright ridiculous, especially when I already knew the problem with my unit and it took the guys about 15 minutes total at my house for this. Then, when talking to the guy who must be in charge of giving estimates, he kept pushing their Advantage Program on me. When I asked how much for a new unit he said "$10,000" off the top of his head. Within an hour of them leaving I found three other companies/people who quoted me less than $5,000 for a new unit. Would not recommend this company to anyone. Paid up front (dumb!) for Installation of new duct work two weeks ago. 60% of the ducts are not performing. Repeated correspondence and was told they are going to fix the deficiencies their inspector found. Temperatures in the low 30's but they will not respond to my emails about scheduling the repairs of their botched installation. read more

I have used R & M Climate Control for 30 years but at my last semiannual maintenance visit a sales man showed up with the service tech uninvited. He proceeded to tell me I would need a new system because it would be too expensive to replace mine. He stood across the room and explained they would handle all the everything with their new financing option. He never showed me anything in writing but conducted the entire "sale" on his iPad. I signed up and the next day they came and replaced my existing unit. I never received any paperwork on the unit or the pricing. After multiple phone calls over a period of almost 2 weeks they finally sent over the agreement. They had enrolled me in a very expensive 15 Year leasing program at the end of which I would still have to buy the unit. Additionally they only gave me the option of the most expensive unit and never gave me a price. The experience totally devastated my entire family. read more

We have used R&M for over 30 years. Yesterday, the tech who came to service our 3 units said the gas furnace has a hole and cracks in the plenum causing a risk of CO poisoning. The unit is 13 years old and his response to that was, they last about that long. He turned off the gas and had a sales rep there in 45 minutes The rep presented the info for 3 Lennox systems. The mid range was $10,000. The next day, we had another company come to give a second opinion. The tech was here for 1 1/2 hours checking it thoroughly. He could find no holes or cracks. He took the time to research the unit and said it was still under warranty! He also changed out a dirty air filter that was missed. My husband called the sales rep who admitted he should have shown other manufacturers and also admitted he should have checked the warranty. My husband called the main office and the chief technician, Adam, called back. That was a waste of time. We are still in shock that this could happen with a company who has never given us a reason in 30 years to doubt their integrity. read more

They fixed my a/c in one day. That was the good news. The parts involved, a fan motor and a capacitor were under warranty and I did not pay for them. I was told that I would only pay for labor. This company uses a very unusual way to calculate labor--by an arbitrary price list that they have developer per service. So, although I had already paid a $99 flat fee for a service call, they charged me $545 for labor--for less than an hour of their technician's time. I never heard of such a practice and found it intentionally deceitful. I will never use them again and would warn anyone not to call them. read more

First service call by R&M= serial number read by Jimmy, the repairman, interpreted incorrectly. I was told the unit was made in 2002, which made the unit ten years old when installed. I wanted to put the unit under highest service plan offered, but I was told by Jimmy, the repairman, that the unit was too old to be considered for that level of service. I know I was overcharged and the unit was in warranty, and the manager, Steve Arvan, at the Knoxville office has submitted a return of $347.00, although he explained that it would take four to six weeks to get the funds returned to me, which is an absolutely absurd length of for a refund. Further, as regards the incorrect interpretation of the serial number, the manager gave a weak excuse for Jimmy's reading. This is strange. Jimmy and R&M both know Goodman products. It is on the website that you sell and service Goodman products. Moreover, the invoice given to me has no detailed break down of costs, just a few words and a big number. 1/27/2015. When I called the second time to complain that the unit was not still performing and that in fact the unit was under warranty, the lady answering the phone stated the unit was, in fact made in February of 2011, which I already had been made aware of the original installer. Jimmy returned and said he cleaned parts in the igniter area of the unit. This when I signed up both units for 2 service plans totaling $288.00. Jimmy left in a flurry, but later that night the unit returned to an on/off intermittent stage of functioning. Not responding to the thermostat call for heat being the principle source of irritation. I awaken one morning to a house 63 degrees cold, but the heat was running due to the sun being out. That is what is happening. Nighttime, and the unit calls it quits. Daytime- it runs. I should add at this point that the original installer had been quite ill and was unable to do any service work during my unpleasant and failed experiences with R&M a.k.a. Service Experts. At some point in the above service calls I spoke with the manager at length about what they sold, as my second Trane unit is 19 years old, but has given no problems, but I wanted to consider options. He said he would send literature, which he did, but it was for heat pump units, not gas, which is the only type of unit verbally discussed. 2/5/2015. The unit was not running at all. Forecast for that coming night was 19 degrees and in desperation to get an opinion, I spoke with the installer, who was still recovering, and unable to work. He told me that the part needed was called a combustion blower, and could be called an inducer blower. I contacted the distributor, ETTC, and had them place the correct part on the dock. I reluctantly called R&M and told them the situation. I also called Hiller, but it was too late for a new player, as R&M called while I speaking with Hiller and told me Jimmy was on his way with the part. Meanwhile, the unit mysteriously decided to run. Jimmy arrives in a very nasty mood, and told me he had been informed that I had no heat and the unit was running, and I was wasting his time. He was not interested in what was or was not- he would not listen. It was a very bad situation with a rude, abusive service man, likely doing a poor job as I was not on his 'A' list. It seems that is true, as Jimmy left without wasting further time, and the unit returned to its old tricks of dying. Further Jimmy noted on the ticket there was "no codes present', as though all was well, but the Goodman manual states: no light signal= Internal Control Failure. This would seem to indicate that the integrated circuit control board has failed at some function, likely cracked and flexing, or contracting and expanding with change of ambient temperature. Cost of service (or lack thereof)= $226.00 I have the worst of all problems- INTERMITANT FAILURE. Perhaps, the full problem is a multiplicity of parts. Paid to R&M Climate Control a.k.a. Service Experts to date: $960.00 Results= 0 Your service call is twice the price at $99.99. Hiller is $49.95 I am not happy or satisfied. I want all of my money back, and the service contracts cancelled. R&M a.k.a. Service Experts does not care about the their customer base, only how much they can charge. Fourth follow up: They responded to my issues with a phone call then never resolved either issue. Third follow up: Sticking with Three stars for now as I never heard back about someone coming out to repair wall damage. Also they were going to give me some nice filters due to all the inconvenience and those have not arrived. Second Follow up: Changing from 1 to 3 stars. Manager from R & M came out personally to assess damage & install new thermostat the very next morning! Very polite and helpful and honestly apologetic. Turns out the thermostat was just a bad unit and the new one is working great; love being able to control from comfort of my chair. The AC itself stopped due to water pan filling and kill switch going off; nice feature and saved us some floor damage. All my warranty info and rebate was automatically completed by their business office; almost nothing required for me to do which is great because I've been known to forget to send in rebates before. They are still sending someone out to repair the walls and once that is completed fully I'll move to four stars. On call not being available as promised and leaving a mess the first visit means I won't be giving five stars. Follow up: unit completely broke tonight, called support and they said they'd have someone out in an hour or so. That was 4 hours ago and it is 2:15 AM now and now the service person on duty isn't even returning calls from tech support. Original review: I'm hesitant to leave a bad review because all the people I've worked with at R&M have been great. However I was sold a thermostat with known issues. One of the big selling points for me having our HVAC . was being able to use iComfort to control my temperature and see weather conditions from the thermostat. The system will connect to my WiFi but not to Lennox's servers and there are A LOT of reviews going back as far as 2014 complaining about this issue online. Wish I had done more research however they should sell a working product. Additionally they agreed to run a duct to my second bathroom (on my signed service order). They ran across a small concrete barrier in the wall and choose to discontinue running the line leaving my floors and hall covered in drywall dust and with two holes in my walls. read more
