What really impressed me was their pricing policy: the quoted amount was the MAXIMUM we would pay, and if the job took less time than anticipated, the price would actually be adjusted DOWN. How refreshing is that?! When we scheduled the work, they even suggested a Thursday appointment so that if they ran into any unexpected issues or needed additional materials, they'd have Friday to finish rather than leave us without A/C in that bedroom over the weekend. That's the kind of thoughtful service you don't see every day. Mike Hampton and Austin Ward arrived right on time this morning and got straight to work. And here's where the story gets interesting! They discovered that our builder had actually installed the additional ductwork when the house was built 6 1/2 years ago, but the drywall crew had covered up the ceiling opening! Mike and Austin repaired the damaged ductwork, expertly cut the ceiling opening, and installed the vent that should have been there all along. They were incredibly careful in our home, even moving my curtains out of the way to protect them from dust and debris. They vacuumed everything afterward and actually offered to MOP the floor, too! (I told them that wasn't necessary.) From the initial assessment to the quote, scheduling, and completed work, everyone we dealt with was professional, courteous, and genuinely concerned about doing the job right. I first met Evan in November of 2022, when we discussed repair of a gas fireplace, which he claimed would be fixed by ordering a special remote from the company. Remote was due to be delivered in December. I never heard from Evan. Since then, I have called Shield Services and spoke to his receptionist on several occasions. I have been told multiple times Evan would be calling me, but he never did. The receptionist gave me a lot of excuses. First the remote was "out for delivery". I waited a week, then it was, "I'll have Evan call you". Waited again, no one reached out. I confirmed my contact information multiple times. Multiple calls and unanswered messages. Then I got in contact with the receptionist again who told me it was on backorder. How something can go from "out to delivery" to "on back order" makes no sense to me. I have heard about half a dozen excuses. If you are looking for more red flags, note that this business does not have an address (something I learned when I was filing with better business bureau). Recently they replaced 2 HVAC units at my home; a downstairs package unit and an upstairs heat pump. Neither were cheap as you can imagine. But I was able to work with them on price, using the Costco HVAC program as a frame of reference. I told them I wanted to give them this business but they had to be price-competitive. Forrest was very willing to sharpen the pencil and I got 2 units (similar to the ones being replaced) for a good price. I was happy to use the same brand as the 2 units that were being replaced as they served me well for over 17 years. I made the decision to replace both units on Monday and Standard/Forrest had their crew at my home on Wednesday morning at 8am. They were finished by 3pm and did a nice job cleaning up the inside of my home (I was expecting company for the weekend that evening, so this was highly appreciated).
