Parking is always available across the street at San Bruno Park, even when we arrive just before mass starts. When I look at the traffic on Oak Ave. from St. Robert's private lot after mass, I'm glad to be walking in the opposite direction towards the park where we can easily drive out. The interior elicits a simple yet divine grandeur. High ceilings make the room feel open and spacious. An abundance of natural light and fresh air flows through lovely stained-glass windows. I noticed this parish sings rather than recites more responses than other churches I've attended. Nonetheless, the choir, cantor, and organist always do a splendid job with the liturgical music. "To sing is to pray twice," as St. Augustine once said. Homilies here are enjoyable. Fr. Wilber is especially engaging with his loud voice and varied intonation, though he tends to speak a little fast. The brief interactions I've had with parishioners during and after mass already have me convinced of how friendly and welcoming the St. Robert's community is. The camaraderie is admirable and noticeable, as illustrated by all the hard work and dedication of parishioners towards organizing a wildly successful parish festival. Various groups like the Grownups, In-Betweeners, Men's Club, Women's Guild, and Filipino-American Group are open and active. Be sure to take the parish bulletin handed out after mass to keep up with all the events and activities going on. Even when I'm not from San Bruno, St. Robert's is a wonderful church and community that feels like home.

Many of the reviews that you will find online are outdated, and comments about those administrative personnel are no longer with the school. I also know that each individual family will have their own experience and perspective, but here is ours. We have one child that graduated two years ago (at Serra now) and have two more still at the school. More recently one who started kindergarten. We are the largest of the catholic elementary schools in the San Francisco Archdiocese. We like the academics and structure and I will say... it's challenging. But there's no other way to prepare these kids than to give them this structure and chance to learn boundaries and how to succeed themselves. Personally, my kids are thriving here. My two boys like that the school offers sports as early as 4th grade as a way to introduce them to baseball, basketball and track and field. They also have volleyball for the girls. Like with any school, you have to find a balance. We try not to get too looped into the politics, as all schools will have them. If you can have a small filter to block out some noise, you'll be fine. We find that we like the structure and the rigor of the academics and find that the kids are well prepared going into high school. St. Matthews feeds many kids mainly to Serra, SI, Notre Dame, or Mercy when they graduate. Then there is a mix of the public schools like Hillsdale, Aragon, Burlingame, and San Mateo. The parent community is second to none. Everyone that goes here says that it is the BEST! There are so many ways and opportunities for the parents to get involved and interact. This is what makes us different and I would agree. Many different parent committees to plan events for the school. Carnival, auction, etc. The school is closely tied with the parish. There is a school and parish committee that try to align together on events and religious education. This year, 2024, Saint Matthews Catholic School has adopted a new administrative team approach to providing leadership to the school and it has worked really well. So well that the Archdiocese is looking to this as a model for all schools based on its success so far. We don't have a set "Principal" or "Dean" in terms of title, seeing that a Leadership team that works together can leverage each other's strengths to get things accomplished in order to meet the needs of the school and students and not have to rely on one person to do a "job description" or part of it when it is not their strength. It's a team approach to success. The community here is great. The 40 volunteer hours per family is so easy to do. And that's what helps to create the community that we have. People say that Saint Matthew's Catholic school is large with over 600 students. However, my family preferred this when deciding on a school to start our oldest child. Thinking about our own experience growing up, there were two classes per grade and just didn't realize that maybe that is more the norm. My wife and I preferred that there were two classes per grade because each year they will mix up the students. We felt that this would better prepare the students socially to adapt to larger sized schools when they go on to high school. We felt it also helps them to learn how to adapt to different people and personalities, of which is a very real world life skill. So, we actually do not mind that there are two classes per grade. The lower classes also have a full time aid in the class to help with the teacher, so it is not a 1:32 ratio. One classes per grade will have our kids be stuck with the same 30 people for the entire nine years. Which can be very challenging. But for some families, that is what you are looking for, so I understand. There are many activities for the students to get involved with. Sports, Drama, Journalism, tech, Student Government, Music. They learn Spanish at an early age. And have volunteer hour opportunities. The school does integrate religion into the curriculum. There are many families and students that are not Catholic that attend this school. We are hitting the re-start button with our family as our five year old has entered kindergarten this fall. However, we do not regret going here even though with all the changes that have been going on. We were impressed with how they had handled the COVID situation and learning. They kept the students' best interest in mind in terms of continuing with their academics and making sure that they were not missing classroom instruction. The gym is by far the nicest gym for the kids! It's bright, lots of natural sunlight. The side doors roll up, so during hot evenings, can open them up and the siblings or parents can watch from the courtyard by the tree. According to my

Our child continues to grow academically, socially, and spiritually in ways that have truly exceeded our expectations. What really sets this school apart is the strong sense of community. There's a real partnership between home and school, and parents are encouraged to take an active role in campus life. Whether it's volunteering for traffic duty, participating in fundraising events, or coaching sports, there are many opportunities to get involved--and so many parents who genuinely want to pitch in. The staff and teachers are warm, approachable, and passionate about what they do. The values-based education and emphasis on faith development have been a wonderful foundation for our child.

My family and I occupied a Mass on Monday. My Uncle's Funeral. When we are all mourning, this guy spent 5-10 minutes ranting about how a lot of us don't go to church and that we need to go to church more often, and not just for baptism and when someone dies. He clearly had an agenda. It wasn't encouraging at all... this mass was a really big disappointment during a time of loss and mourning. Dear Father. How dare you accuse us of not going to church. Just because we don't go to Holy Angels daily, doesn't mean anything. Just because you don't see us, doesn't mean anything. We all go to church. We all go to different churches. When you spent 5-10 minutes talking about it, instead of saying something nice for my uncle, You lost a lot of respect from all of us. Church is suppose to be welcoming of all people, and not just of one faith. We are all mourning and you delivered a mass that was intended for the general audience and not for a family that lost an Elder member. Everyone at that mass was there for my uncle. You ruined it for us all. My uncle deserved better for his ceremony. To the Nigerian priest. We don't believe you should be a Priest. You're not a good one nonetheless. Holy Angels keeping you on board is terrible for our church. You lack empathy. You lack the ability to read the room. You lack knowledge the ability of understand the neighborhood. To anyone looking for a Priest to offer a funeral ceremony to a loved one, don't go to this guy. Find a local church and hand pick your priest if possible. Don't allow this guy to ruin a proper funeral ceremony.

It's tightknit and if your child does better in a smaller class, HA offers this. We originally tried another Catholic school walking distance to our house, but my husband and several family members attended that school in the past and had issues with bullying during their time there. We enrolled our child for preschool at the other school and were not fond of the lack of communication. Sister Merle's communication with us for HA preschool was very consistent and timely, which was why we decided to transition to HA, and now looking back, we made the right choice. We also have made friends and become close with the other parents in our class, which is awesome.

The preschool program is truly amazing--it provides a warm, nurturing foundation that prepares students both academically and socially for the years ahead. Our only regret is we wish we had started at the preschool one year earlier! It is such a special program. One of the school's greatest strengths are the teachers and administration. The teachers are exceptional--dedicated, caring, and deeply invested in each student's academic growth and personal development. The low student-to-teacher ratio allows teachers to truly know each child as an individual. This personalized attention makes a meaningful difference and helps students feel supported, challenged, and confident. Our son has thrived at St. Pius and we can't be more pleased with the support and individual attention he receives. His favorite subject is math! Enrichment opportunities are abundant, including a one of a kind Theatre program, strong music and art offerings, and Cub and Girl Scouts, all of which allow students to explore their interests, build confidence, and develop creativity and leadership skills. The school's commitment to social-emotional learning is outstanding. Students are taught empathy, resilience, and strong communication skills, helping them grow into compassionate, well-rounded individuals. Another amazing offering is the athletics program. Athletics provide opportunities for teamwork, physical growth, and school pride. Our son loves playing baseball and basketball with his friends at school and is looking forward to track in the spring. He looks forward to the school spirit days, pep rally's, and Friday night lights celebrating Shamrock spirit. Additionally, the daycare program offers a safe, nurturing, and reliable environment that supports working families and reflects the same values found throughout the school. We are so grateful for the day care program. What truly sets this school apart is its incredible sense of community. Families, students, and staff genuinely care for one another, and parent engagement is encouraged and valued, making everyone feel like a true partner in the educational journey. We've watched our son grow not only in knowledge, but also in confidence, kindness, and character. We are deeply grateful for the years we've spent here and wholeheartedly recommend this school to any family seeking an exceptional and well-rounded educational experience.

It is a wonderful community The teachers have been absolutely fantastic! They not only want my children to succeed academically, but they want to help my kids to be the best they can be. They really care about teaching them to be kind, caring, respectful and responsible individuals. Plus, both my kids (my oldest is in 4th grade and my youngest is in 1st grade) are testing above their grade level! The campus itself is incredible! We looked at a few other Catholic schools in the area before selecting St Pius and we noticed that other schools didn't have some of the amenities that St Pius has, like their beautiful gym that my kids love playing basketball in and gathering for rallies in, and the huge grassy field that they play on at recess every day! Lastly, St Pius has a locked fence around the campus to ensure the safety of everyone on campus throughout the day. I can't say enough great things about the school & community, and we are so pleased with how much our kids are growing & thriving!

The teachers are caring, thoughtful, loving, and energetic. Our daughter is so happy going to school every day and comes home with expanding Spanish vocabulary and talking about all her friends and teachers that she loves or singing songs she learned at school. The school is truly committed to Spanish speaking and I always hear not just the teachers speaking in Spanish but also the kids. I am so happy that many days I pick our daughter up in different clothes than why I dropped her off because she has been exploring outside in the dirt or getting creative during painting/art time and had to change. There is great communication with the teachers, whether it be through a summary of the day during pickup, e-mails, pictures posted to the website, occasional meetings, or even a text during the day if there is something notable happening. Overall our daughter is happy, learning, and safe in the hands of a school that has a family feel to it. Some other information is provided below: Facility - while hosted at a home, it is very large with lots of space for the kids to run around. Indoors there are several large spaces with different uses. One room they use mats, swings, and trapezes to let the kids play more adventurously in a safe environment. Others have tables and chairs set up for arts and crafts or for meal times. Main rooms are filled with a variety of toys for free creative play or circle time. Outside, there is lots of room for free play. Our daughter especially loves the large wooden kitchen and water toys. They have a garden where the kids help grow and pick fresh vegetables and fruits. They even put in a chicken coop with a specific type of chickens that are good with kids that the kids have seen grow from chicks. There is enough room for larger climbing structures or riding around on scooters (with helmets), and on hot days they'll even put out a slip and slide for the kids to play. Food - meals/snacks are not provided but the maestras are very mindful of what the children are eating. They've helped us expand what we serve our daughter at home and in lunches by noting what she is interested in from other kids' lunches. Junk food/sweets are discouraged. Occasionally fruit or other healthy snacks are provided during an event or activity. Ages - we appreciate the range of ages as the kids get different things out of playing with the different kids. Especially when our daughter started the older kids were like big brothers/sisters looking after her, while those closer to her age have become friends with park/play dates outside of school. The teachers also tailor activities and instruction towards the kids ages and ability - for example during nap time the older kids may not nap and instead work on reading, writing, and numbers.

The physical space is wonderfully big and inviting, with lots of outdoor space for running and climbing and scooters and mud play, as well as chickens, and a vegetable garden. The school is based in a home and has a home feel, with a great student to teacher ratio, but the home is remarkably big for SF and has several areas set up for different children's needs, like a quiet tent and a gross-motor sensory play area. Our daughter Elena has blossomed there in the last six months since she started. She was at a Spanish immersion daycare before that and always liked it fine, but she seems more engaged with her teachers and her peers and her activities now, and has more to tell me at the end of the day. Her level of Spanish has changed dramatically. She is now speaking in Spanish sentences. The teachers at Nido really speak only in Spanish to the children and many of the children are communicating back in Spanish, which wasn't the case at the daycare we were at. They do a lot of creative projects and go on quite a few field trips as well--it feels like an adventurous school. The teachers are willing to adapt to children's individual needs as well, such as when they problem-solved until Elena would take a nap at last. I think it's a good sign that Elena sometimes tells me to go away when I arrive to pick her up!
