    Kohl mansion at night
    H K.

From the moment we went to the open house for prospective freshmen, our whole family was all in for Mercy B. The principle and every staff member that spoke, did so with such genuine passion for the school that it pretty much removed any other schools as options for us, right then and there. I had never really thought about the benefits of an all girls education, but after hearing studies they presented, and speaking to staff and students at the open house, I was convinced this was the right place for our girls. They offer plenty of academic options with AP and honors options, and our Mercy student loves their sports and clubs programs. Tons of options and not a ridiculously cut- throat environment like how our sons Catholic school run their athletics department. The smaller class sizes also make sure your daughter doesn't get lost in the crowd here...individual attention and genuine care for the students well being is evident in every interaction. As a bonus, the campus is absolutely stunning! As a double bonus, my daughter says the cafeteria food is outstanding...and they sometimes have a a waffle bar for breakfast! Triple bonus...awesome, fun events for the parents are held at the mansion throughout the year... casino night, lobster feed, Christmas at Kohl, father / daughter dance, mother / daughter tea....all amazing experiences!

I initially became interested in The Nueva School after subscribing to receive job postings. What…read moreimmediately stood out to me was how frequently new openings were being posted -- sometimes seemingly every week. As an educator, that naturally made me wonder about staff turnover. Eventually, I applied for a position and interviewed with someone who honestly seemed very kind and thoughtful. I left the interview feeling optimistic, especially because I was told I would hear back by the end of the week. In education hiring, timelines usually move quickly because schools want to secure teachers for the upcoming school year before candidates accept other opportunities. Weeks went by with complete silence. No follow-up, no rejection email, nothing. Wanting to close the loop professionally, I eventually emailed to thank the interviewer for her time and wish her and her team the best for the upcoming year. Oddly, the message bounced back, even though I had been communicating through that exact same email thread previously. At that point, I honestly began wondering whether the communication had somehow been compromised or whether I had fallen into some strange scam situation. I even called the school directly to verify that the interviewer actually worked there, and thankfully she did. The school then provided me with another email address associated with their official domain. I forwarded my message there as well, but once again received no response at all. Whether the message reached her or not, the overall experience felt surprisingly unprofessional and dismissive, especially after what had initially seemed like such a warm interaction. After later reading additional reviews and experiences from others, I ultimately realized this probably was not the right fit for me anyway. Still, basic communication and professional courtesy go a long way, particularly in education, where relationships and respect matter.

Interviewed here and saw some things that were surprising to me for a school that is as well funded…read moreas this one is. i would likely avoid this school if you want your children to have a fully rounded education experience.

Hello, I'm a former 7th grader (now going into 8th grade soon) and I want to address some things…read morethat I've experienced. I don't wanna sound mean or be a Negative Nancy, but I'm just leaving some constructive criticism. Be warned, this review isn't for the faint of heart and It's serious. First of all, let's talk about the teachers. If you're an incoming 7th grader, just wish you don't get Mrs. Fiske, She's very strict and picks out popsicle sticks with students names on them if people don't answer her question. I thought we left the popsicle sticks in elementary? Anyways, here are some of the best teachers I recommend that you wish you could get for your schedule, Mr. Hansen is a very kind, understanding, and has comical humor for a substitute teacher for PE. Ms. Drutz is also kind and is a science teacher, but she got mad at me for something harmless. Second of all, let's talk about some of the things about this school that should be worked on. Taylor has a no phone rule now. "The expectation at Taylor is that all cell phones and smart devices are turned off and put away at 8:30 AM and can be turned back on at dismissal. Many students are very successful in meeting that expectation. Bullying in any form is not tolerated". Teachers are allowed to use their phones, and I see them use their phones, but students are not allowed to? and I still see students getting bullied even though "Bullying in any form is not tolerated"? that's pretty hypocritical, smh. The teachers, principals, and vice principals don't do anything about the bullying. They're blind as bats when it comes to bullying, but they have 20/20 vision and x-ray vision when they see a student on their phone. In essence, this school needs to do better and all they care about is phones.

My grandson attended Taylor for three years. All the time he was there he experienced bullying and…read morewas taunted in the classroom by other students with no staff intervention, until it became physical. There were multiple incidents of fighting over the years, but this last month he was jumped by a gang of students. While there may be a few caring teachers and staff; it isn't enough to negate the bullying and fights. Nor the lack of interest in a students well being. A few weeks ago he was harassed by a teacher. She pulled him out of class (she's not even his teacher) on two different occasions because she heard a rumor and wanted to ask him about it. During the discussions she actually made offensive, accusatory remarks to him. Her antagonism escalated when she decided to slander him in front of other students telling them to stay away from him because he was weird. As he walked away from her, she actually flipped him off with both hands. It was so hostile and abusive, another student reported it to staff and urged him to as well. Another observation is in learning and development. Following Covid; many children struggled when they got back to school and grades are low for some. Schools should focus on education and grades. There isn't any support or concern at all on grades. My grandson wasn't safe there; physically or emotionally and we struggled taking him there everyday and trusting them with his care. The only reason he wasn't pulled out was because it was the last month of school and we did not want it to impact his graduation. To date we are not aware of any actions taken regarding the teacher.

I have 2 kids attending UP Academy and they love the school!…read more My older son used to struggle in a public school with math and writing. 3 years ago, at 2nd grade, we transferred him to UP Academy, and, within a few months, he has become a lil writer. He fell in love with writing. He wrote one full-page of very a fun story. I can't thank you enough to all the educators there. Since then until now, he always happy every morning that he gets to go to school. He loves the community there and the small-sized class makes him feel like a part of the community. My younger one started last year as a kindergartner. He loves his teachers and his friends. He learned a lot academically and socially. We love how UP academy teaches kids by their own paces. Thus, our kids get challenged throughout the year. If you are looking for a project-based learning, a place where you child can build confidence and empathy, small class sized, great community, and personalized learning, UP Academy is the place for your kids.

We love UP Academy!…read more My older one went to the school since 2nd grade (now 3rd grader), and my younger one since TK (K now). The school is relatively new (2.5 years old) but our kids attended since 2 years ago. We are happy with the school in the full two years. ***Strength** We love the super low teacher-student ratio, the differentiation of learning. We also love the mixed-age classes, that allow kids to grow and thrive not limited by grade but by the their own levels. The school focused on growth mindset and recognize the efforts and progress. We also love the focus on project-based learning and social-emotion learning. The school also offers foreign languages classes, Chinese/Mandarin and Spanish. This might be a good plus for some families. We love that. We also appreciate the schools offer afterschool extension to 6pm as well. This is very helpful for parents who are both working. The school builds a great community. Teachers that we experienced - which means all teachers since we have two kids there for two years - are all very caring. Kids love each of them. The founder has an amazing vision inspired by a strong why. We love the philosophy, the vision & mission of the school. ***Potential concerns some families may have*** - Small school space: As a micro school, the school space is small - basically an office building only. But with various field trips and outdoor learning opportunities, especially during the pre-pandemic era, we don't have any concern at all. There's indoor facility for exercise, and kids love it. - Small class size For some parents, the small class size might be another concern for social issues. However, I appreciate this a lot since it also means great individual attention from teachers. Every kid can develop his/her own learning plan, academically and socially. We particularly appreciate the small size of the school during the pandemic time. A small class makes us feel safe to send kids to school in person during pandemic, knowing that the school is small and our kids could still learn and socialize safely in person with the COVID precautions that bigger schools may not be able to offer. The school remains open in 2020-2021 school year with the waiver. I believe it's heathier for kids to interact in person than virtually on Zoom anyways. - New school This is a progressive lab elementary school, and yes it's pretty new. We've seen the school evolving in the past two years, and overall towards a even better direction. I do encourage families to experience the school themselves during the trial-out days. We did so before we transferred our kids from a good public school in the following school year. Kids loved Up Academy so much that we made the decision right after they experienced the school. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we've ever made. Overall, we love the school and highly recommend the school to other families.

Both of my daughters attended North Hillsborough Preschool with Teacher Marcia and Teacher Claire,…read moreand I cannot recommend this program highly enough. Both of my girls have really blossomed and learned so much under Marcia and Claire's guidance. What sets this preschool apart is the sheer amount of creativity and intention that goes into every single week. Just across a few months: the kids made Chinese dragon heads and won ton skins for Lunar New Year, decorated pretzel logs in honor of Lincoln's log cabin, harvested potatoes from their own garden and cooked them into smashed potatoes, took field trips to the Palo Alto Children's Theater and Hidden Villa Farm, hosted a Mother's Day Tea, raced stick horses in a "Preschool Preakness," built cars for their own Indy 500, and cooked everything from shamrock shakes to dirt cups to Little Red Hen pizza. Add in weekly Spanish, music, library, science experiments, and visits from parents who share their expertise -- and you start to see why my kids couldn't wait to get there. Marcia and Claire bring a warmth and consistency you don't find everywhere. They truly know each child, keep parents in the loop through detailed monthly calendars and newsletters, and the small touches add up to a preschool experience that feels more like an extended family than a drop-off. After two kids through this program, I can say without hesitation: if you're looking for a preschool where your child will be loved, challenged, and genuinely excited to learn, this is the place.
