I recently switched insurance provider and was in need of a new dentist who is in network. I found Dr Navarro based on nextdoor recommendation and made a new client checkup/cleaning appointment. I would note before going to Dr Navarro's office I had my last dental cleaning 7 months ago at a different dental office. After many x Ray and a cleaning by the dental hygienist, and waiting for another 10 minutes, Dr Navarro came in.
He checked my jaw/bite, asked the hygienist if my gum bled a lot when she did the cleaning. It did because she did a semi-deep clean and I could tell she was at time scraping while she looked away. Then he started making these weird comments that made me very uncomfortable, and the reason I'm giving this office 1 star:
He asked me what I had for breakfast. I said English muffin and jam. Then he asked me what I had for dinner and lunch yesterday. What- is this a test?! WTF? I said salad and fajitas.
Then he put out his palm and told me to look at my palm vs his, and asked me what's the difference between the 2. WTF? I responded - yours is bigger? He goes.. what else? I was like ehh yours is more pink mine is more yellow? (I'm Asian). He goes.. well, what's the pink coming from? I go... blood? He goes - YES! Are you anemia? I was like nope I am not. He goes.. how do you know? I thought to myself, well how do YOU know?! I responded.. cuz I had my blood tested for this very recently. (Indeed I had specifically asked to have it checked during my postpartum visit very recently). He then said a lot of vegetarians are anemia (I am not vegetarian), proceeded to tell me about this multivitamin I should take.
Seriously he could've just said - hey we noted that your gum bled during cleaning, you should consider taking some multivitamin. Also a lot of women have iron deficiency, perhaps consider taking iron supplement as well.
He also made a comment about my eyebrows which I had microbladding done years ago and have since faded. He said it looks pink. I told him that's faded ink from microbladding. He proceeded to tell me he was a reconstructive plastic surgeon in Mexico, and that I shouldn't get more work done.
And then... the best part-- he made a move to leave and asked me if I have any questions. Damn right I did! That's when I asked him- what about my remaining wisdom tooth? And the cavities that the hygienist spoke about - she said you'd tell me if I needed those filled.
Words cannot express how strange this visit was. I left with a follow up appointment in 2 weeks to get those cavities taken care of. Once I got home, however, I kept thinking about that uncomfortable interaction and feel compelled to share with my fellow Yelpers. So there you have it. If you decide to go despite my review, I hope you have better experience, because that was some crazy shit. read more
