My party of 4 and 2 dogs were welcomed and a table had been reserved next to a fantastic warm fire. The menu had something for everyone and was much better than other pub menus that we have had during the course of the week. Food was fabulous. Staff were sooo friendly and attentive without being condescending (I hate that!). The layout of the pub restaurant was lovely. If you wanted privacy you could have it but we were happy to have a sociable evening with other patrons and the staff. So glad we ignored the very old review. We have booked to return on Friday!

Surly appalling service and cold food *AVOID AT ALL COST OR YOU WILL BE DISSAPOINTED*…read more My wife and friends had Sunday lunch today at The Swan in Horning. The experience was less than satisfactory from the very start. When greeted "a loose description" I asked if we could sit anywhere. The surly response from the female server was "Are you eating", to which I said yes please although we haven't booked. This was met with a look of contempt and faux scratching at a piece of paper and frowning to suggest they couldn't seat us, but then behold they could fit us in, I will add there was no one in the restaurant seated at this point and it still wasn't full an hour and 20 minutes later when we left. We sat and the drinks order was taken. Upon me taking jest from my friend, my wife apologised to the server and his response was "it's OK I have to deal with people like that all of the time". In hindsight this was not a polite comment meant in a lighthearted way as we were to discover. The drinks came and we ordered our food, A trio of meats sharing platter, the pork and a Beef Wellington, I will add no price was displayed on the specials board for the Beef, which I thought was a legal requirement? 30 minutes later the platter came out, we were going to wait for a few minutes but started as there was no sign of the other food. The only food on our plates remotely warm was the carrots, bearing I mind the platter plate had been preheated as had our plates. Having waited for 30 minutes already we started to eat it. We were the first people to be served Sunday lunch, so how it was cold I have no idea. The other food came out 5 to 10 minutes later, also cold. We mentioned this to Brandon and he offers to replace the vegetables, to which we collectively said no thank you as we had waited 30 to 40 minutes already. He later felt the need to correct us as to the time we had waited and it had only been 20. I appreciate this may be what the system says, but this would be dependant on it being ordered straight away, which it clearly hadn't. When the bill check we had a coffee and the 2 "hot" cold chocolates taken off the bill. I mentioned I didn't think this was acceptable as all of the food was cold, to which we were corrected and contradicted by Brandon again. Personally I am appalled at the distinct lack of customer service, no real apology and cold food served as first service in your restaurant. I would also add when we left it was still not full. I am sure you will receive contradictory versions of this from the staff in question, however I would then happily put you in touch with my wife and 2 friends for their input into this. It was certainly not money well spent and we will not be returning. *DO NOT EAT HERE*

I have checked into this hotel over 40 times since my Norwich project started and I think it might…read morebe time to update my review. That number of "check-ins" above accurately reflect the number of days I've stayed. I have stayed in several different rooms and depending on how busy they are will depend on whether or not I get upgraded or just get a regular room. It is a conference center and it's the nicest hotel in Norwich, so it can fill up when there is a special event. (A movie was recently filmed in town so most of the cast and crew stayed here for two weeks.) While the upgraded rooms are nice (I had the honeymoon suite a couple of times) even the standard rooms are clean and comfortable and plenty roomy. Flat screen TVs, a work desk with UK power sockets, a trouser press, bathrobe and slippers, plus wifi that works everywhere in the hotel (not free unless you are Gold or Platinum elite) though it does get VERY slow between 21:30 and 23:00. The staff are very friendly and most welcoming. Once a month is a meet-and-greet with the management, which has allowed me to provide them with some feedback and opportunities for improvement. The 1559 Restaurant serves a continental and English breakfast buffet in the morning and a decent (if spendy) dinner. The Zest Bar is more like a golf club with less expensive entrees and the same selection of drinks and beers. Room service is expensive but good if you have to spend the night in your room on conference calls. Most of the time, the rooms are very quiet and very peaceful. I'd recommend avoiding the '01 rooms as inconsiderate guests who shout in the hallway can be heard in your room. I've also had to deal with the noise from the marquee once or twice, but closing the windows usually solves that problem. As part of a proper golf resort, there is a full 18 hole course which I have not played. There is a nice driving range that has allowed me to burn off a little frustration by smacking little white golf balls off into the distance (or not so far into the distance because I suck!) and the Pro Shop does have "house clubs" you can borrow. There is plentiful parking and it's free. The speedbumps on the drive are awful, so go slow! There are only two things that keep this property from getting that fifth star: - It is a couple of miles from the Norwich city center which means cellular coverage is poor. A taxi from the rail station will run about £10. - The hotel is not air-conditioned. Rooms are outfitted with radiators (that work well) and a three-speed rotating fan (that is great for pushing the warm air around).

There is a bus from Lowestoft which takes one right outside Potters so it's very handy. Good vibes with lovely staff. I watched about half an hour of the bowls with my free ticket and then just milled around buying cups of tea and coffee and using the smoking terrace with heaters. The reception desk gave me an envelope and I was able to buy one first class stamp to send off a competition entry. There were also some competitions at the entrance to the Bowls arena to win breaks at Potters so fingers crossed! Not the opulence of the Dorchester for example but a very pleasant resort full of oldies with friendly staff and lovely gardens to the rear.
