This Wellness studio is amazing, and so is Tonya! I go to her for a therapeutic massage, and when I leave, my body feels great! But the after effects felt the next day and the next, can be felt in even a more beneficial way with less pain, and greater flexibility overall. We spend so much money on health insurance and doctors, but when it comes to massage, our mindset tends to be that it is an expense that we can only afford once in a while. Rethink this! Darren's massage was one of the best I've ever had. I have recurring back and neck pain so I came in looking for a bit of bodywork but also for relaxation after a long stint traveling and taking care of kids. He did a great job working out some problem areas near my neck yet overall the massage was very relaxing. He was very good at interpreting my verbal cues and descriptions of what I wanted out of the massage and the end result was very rejuvenating. I also loved the incorporation of aromatherapy in the massage. Darren walked me through how he would use the different oils (lavender and orange blossom under the head rest while I was face down, and then a mask with peppermint to help clear my sinuses once I was face up) and it was a nice touch without being overwhelming. read more

I love this place. It's a super relaxing atmosphere for a massage at a reasonable price. They have all the fun aromatherapy stuff and it usually comes with the massage. I've had so many different masseuses here and all of them have been quality. I like that they have the "Custom Therapeutic Massage" because let's be honest not all parts of me need the deep tissue and not all parts of me will feel relaxed just from a Swedish. This gives you and the masseuse the freedom to make it what you need. In addition to the aromatherapy I love the heated massage table and they have a couple of different compresses that they may or may not use during it as well that I love. I've had a facial here too. I wouldn't take my word on it because I've only had one facial and my skin isn't super problematic, but for relaxation it was wonderful and, again, super reasonable for what it was. One last thing I have done at Serendipity that I enjoyed was a Yoga Nidra class, which I just call "sleepy yoga". It's more of a mind yoga that puts you into a deeply restful trance. I loved it and it (at least the one I went to) was a donation based class, but the teacher requested that none of us donate and instead pass it on in a kind act to someone else. This place is awesome for quality of therapy, but does lack the FULL spa experience if that's what you're looking for (which they are called a wellness center and not a spa). I'm 35 weeks pregnant and suffering from terrible back pain (specifically on my sciatic nerve). After another sleepless, pain-filled night I called Serendipity and they were able to get me in that day for a prenatal massage with Darren. Just had my first experience at this spa and it was lovely! They have a clean, relaxing waiting area, and they get you back for your service quickly. My masseur was Jordan, and he was excellent! Have to admit I was a little leery because he's at least 10 feet tall and I don't generally like a ton of pressure during my massages, but he was awesome. I have been to Serendipity several times over the past three years and highly recommend them. Typically I have had massages with Steven who is excellent and I had a wonderful prenatal massage last night with Darren. I was impressed with how thorough and safe they are with COVID protocols (wait in car, pay from car, temp check, masks, separate bin for your things) but they did not ruin spa atmosphere. Darren was kind and professional and the first stop he took me to was the bathroom (clearly knows pregnant women)! He gave me great feedback about where most of my tightness was and offered to walk me to my car as the massage ended at 8:30pm and they are tucked back away in a dark parking lot. This has never been offered to me at any place I've ever been and I felt very cared for. I declined as I parked right out front but he still waited outside the studio until I got safely into my car. It was my first time here and I intend to return! I had a SpaFinder gift card and found them that way and decided to give them a try. Friendly staff greeted me when I walked in to their very calming environment. I saw Earl for a 60 minute massage and it was heaven! He had just the right amount of pressure to work out the kinks but not hurt. He's a natural with a good intuition - I didnt have to ask him to adjust any of his techniques. An unexpected day off was a perfect opportunity to get a facial and check out this highly rated establishment. My husband and i have been looking for a place where he could get a shiatsu massage and i could gussy myself up. I called and setup an appointment. The person the phone asked me if this was my first time, i said yes, she then asked me to provide my credit card number. I found this very unusual. I am uncomfortable giving my credit card number out to unknown persons and told her i would be happy to give it when i came for the appointment. I was told that i could not schedule a appointment giving my credit card. Well that was the end of that. To date i have never been asked for a credit card number to schedule doctor, spa or any other appointment. If you are new and looking for a facial, massage etc don't waste your time unless you are will to share your credit card. read more

I work out a lot. With that being said I'm constantly foam rolling and doing other exercises to help keep my muscles/body in great condition. However at some point last year I knew my body needed more than what I can do on my own. After some research I decided to book an appointment with Raja. I let her know how I usually foam roll and she was able to figure out a deep tissue massage was exactly what I needed. Since this was my first time getting a professional massage she let me know I might feel a little sore afterwards but once the soreness went away I felt 1000% better before I walked in. Sadly, each time was weirder and/or more disappointing than the time before. And the 3rd time was just plain bad. Each time I went, I asked for a deep tissue massage. I was excited to try Serendipity after receiving a gift certificate for the holidays. Scheduling my 60 massage online was an easy process. I arrived 15 minutes early to complete paperwork. Someone checked in on me about 5 minutes after my arrival and offered me tea or water. I wish there was a front desk person or someone around the waiting area as that was mainly my problems with this spa. Another client arrived and after he finished his paperwork he proceeded to watch videos on his phone at full volume. As the minutes ticked by I realized it was past my appointment time. I wasn't brought back to a room until more than 15 minutes past my scheduled appointment. I felt increasingly frustrated waiting. The massage was fine but I didn't end up leAving until 30 minutes past the end time of my appointment. I was anxious the whole time during the massage as this was messing with my schedule for the day especially since my kids were being watched. Bonnie and Luz are amazing! I got a couples massage here with my mom and we both thought it was one of the best massages we've ever had. I fell asleep twice only to be awoken by my own snore. It was that good. I loved the hot towels they placed on our backs and feet. And the heated pillow under our necks and towels over our eyes made it sooo relaxing. Beds are heated and felt roomier and wider than beds at other spas I've been to. I don't usually like deeper massages, because I feel so sore and stiff the next day rather than lose and comfortable. But somehow, Luz was able to get all of my knots out without me feeling even a hint of soreness the following day. Her scalp and temple massage was also so wonderful. I went to Serenity on 7/5/15 and had a 90 minute massage with Laura. I found Serenity through Spa Finder (and by cross referencing it with Yelp). The location in Burke, VA is very convenient (took me 15 minutes to get their on a Sunday night) to Alexandria and the surrounding areas. I will start with what I didn't like and finish with what I liked and why I would consider coming back. I don't like how the check in and check out process is set up at Serenity. The space does not have a front desk designated and when I arrived (had I not called to say I was a little lost) I am not sure anyone would have known I was in the lobby. They also have merchandise for sale but it wasn't clear who you go to purchase it. Each massage therapist is responsible for checking out their clients. It felt a little awkward (specifically, when it came to providing a tip). I am use to having someone else do the transaction (and then giving the therapist the tip). I also have to dig my therapist for not understanding how to check out with the 2 Spa Finder gift cards I had brought (and this was the reason for me trying Serenity in the 1st place). My check out process took over 30 minutes. I was worried when I left that I had been charged multiple times. Although, the checkout process was a bit of bundler; I would still consider going back to Laura. She was excellent and really found a way to apply enough pressure to make it a deep tissue massage without pain. I also loved that Laura (Serenity) offers as part of their massage aromatherapy (by breathing in fragrant oils). If you'd like they'll offer you a heating pad during your massage also. The massage room itself was very spacious and could see why they can comfortable offer couples massages. The room also was not over the top (which I have seen) with yoga like symbols and/or different colored walls. Laura was also great with keeping up with a pleasant conversation and understanding when I was quiet not to be worried. I'd go back to Serenity more often if it wasn't so expensive (that is a comment on massages overall). My overall experience was very good. It is also a nice feature that Serenity offers single massages and/or the ability to purchase a package of massages for either 6 months or a year. The packages although don't offer you a huge savings are a nice idea if you plan on getting massages frequently. I also thought. How they presented their packages in a folder were very clear in terms of the monthly pricing and the time periods. I didn't have the same clarity when I went to Massage Envy which also offers packages. read more
