She has been working with my family for quite some time and the impact she has had is tremendous. To look back just a year and see how far we have come is astonishing. Not only does she work beautifully with my kids but she helps me be a better mom. Having adopted two kiddos with no prior parenting experience, I naturally have a lot of questions and often times feel clunky or unsure. Megan never hesitates to encourage me but also to help me bridge the gaps. I remember one time we were talking with Megan about something I was trying to explain to my son. He and I were on totally different pages no matter what I did. So, she basically had the conversation for me and did it on his comprehension level. I didn't feel foolish or stupid but rather enlightened. The light bulb went on and I was so grateful to have not only solved a parenting challenge but also learned how to manage similar situations and my son learned that moms need help too sometimes. What Jess brings to the table is something more, which was a genuine concern for my child. On one of our conversatios she said " I went on this run and I was thinking about"... she was thinking about my kid and how to help. She made me feel like we ( we because as parents, things that affect our kids affect us) were "seen." I think more often than not people get complacent in their careers, including the medical or mental health field, which I would chalk up to human nature. However, she never made me feel like my kid was number or just another patient. She was someone going through something and Jess was going to figure it out. We had to stop seeing Jess due to some circumstances out of my control. Which only lead us to a merry go round of therapists and it wasn't until then, that I was able to fully appreciate her, not only for her emotional investment in my child but also for her instincts, which were proven to be spot on. While on that mental health merry go round, I learned that not every therapist has the capability to convey a genuine sense of commitment and concern for their client/patient , however Jess did. Taking on someone else's emotional pain, trauma, anxieties and fears has to be one of the hardest jobs I could imagine, especially when it comes to children...so I can understand having and internal shut off valve and not fault anyone needing to enact that protective mechanism. But as a parent who's child hurts....I sure as shit want someone who sees my kid, as I see them. Once again I saw Jess early in her career. Not only do I magine that she has gotten better with time but I imagine now that she has her own practice, she chooses people who values their clients as much as she does. ...I did recently refer someone here and they had positive reviews about Jess, Teena and the facility.
