We love the skywalk and the animals. We always break at the cafe. Good hamburgers, veggie burgers, onion rings and fries.

Too expensive too touristy. They upgraded everything now it's just not the zoo I grew up with and loved

Just brought my two kids here today. While they enjoyed it, we were unable to roll the tickets towards an annual membership. The person at the ticket office said they don't do that and I should start an annual membership on my next visit?!?!?!?!? I've never been to a museum or zoo where they didn't allow you to apply the same day tickets towards their annual membership. Considering this zoo is part of the Association of Zoos and Museums, this is very disappointing. I will not be coming back. read more

Very nice small zoo. You are able to go into the goats enclosure and pet them which is so nice they are very friendly with people.

My granddaughter loves to come and visit this Eureka Zoo. Her favorite is the front display where it has a running stream. I love This place and the new skywalk has added so much to this nice little zoo. Thanks!!! read more

We visited for the new redwoods skywalk, which is included with the $25 zoo admission, and we're charmed by this cute, laid-back zoo. The skywalk is awesome and worth the admission alone--it's also great for small kids and accessible to all. read more

I really enjoy this zoo the most of all the zoos I've ever been to. It's small, quiet and the animals seem very content here. The staff are super friendly and willing to answer any questions. The aviary is really very pretty and calming. The otters are quite the entertainers. The petting zoo is a must for littles that love interacting with animals. There are numerous programs for children and families. My youngest son participates in The Nature Club and he enjoys it a lot. If he's happy, I'm happy. read more

I grew up splitting my time between Eureka and the San Luis Obispo area. This afforded me a lot of luxuries that other kids didn't have. Hearst Castle, the Redwoods, elephant seals, black bears, elk, beaches, CA missions and salmon fishing were all littered throughout my childhood. The Monterrey Bay Aquarium was a place I went on field trips. Now that I look back on it, I don't envy anyone for whatever their town offered. I got more nature and unique culture than most people can hope for in a lifetime. Above all of that, though, rises the Sequioa Zoo. When I was a kid it was free, which meant we would meander aimlessly through the zoo on summer break to kill time. It was dingy, but safe and ours. I remember sitting on the edge of the prairie dog exhibity with them (seemingly) inches away. The bear habitat offered a particularly poignant sense of wonderment. The otters, of course, provided us with hours of amusement with their frolicing. And no one could forget Bill. As the the pushed through the 90's and the turn of the millenium, the zoo finally got some much needed touch ups. The gift shop and cafe received major overhauls and the entrance was completely remade. The entryway finally looked up to the task. Unfortunately, many of the animals from my childhood have moved on, but with the new remodels, the zoo is looking more impressive than ever. They FINALLY instituted an admission fee and just received a nice sized grant to add more exhibits. It's exciting times for the zoo. I have been to the SD zoo and LA zoo. People have mentioned that the Eureka zoo lacks the size of one of these bigger zoos. This is true, but that doesn't make it bad. When is the last time you walked up to an exhibit at the LA zoo and there wasn't a wall of people crowding your way? The Sequioa Zoo provides and intimacy that other zoos can't begin to comprehend. Sure, it only takes an hour to walk through, but in case you haven't noticed, kids have short attention spans and unless you're a fitness guru, lifting a kid up to see exhibits for 6 hours is hard to do. I'll go for the 2 hours version that Sequoia provides. And people, please please keep in mind that this is the smallest AZA accdredited zoo and the first zoo in California, so you can appreciate it just for the history. If nothing else, support the zoo to pay back all the joy you sucked out of it as a kid. Now that I have two little ones of my own, I will be taking them this summer when I head back up to Eureka to visit. I will gladly pay the admission and will be happy to adopt and animal for each of my kids. It's the least I can do to repay the Sequioa Zoo for everything they gave me as a kid. read more

A charming little zoo. I've never seen a town this small that put so much effort into one. Only a few animals but they seemed lively and well-cared for. Facilities were clean, new, and deluxe, signage good and sincere. The giant redwoods at the back side are unique. It's free after 4 when the indoor exhibits close, only a few bucks before that. One nice touch was that the staff seemed to have dismembered a pig carcass or bought it from somewhere - there was a big bloody hind leg in the bear exhibit, and in the bird area two ravens were tearing flesh from the other leg. I can't tell you why but this gave the evening a nice sense of closure. read more

Sequoia Park Zoo is a gem. I have two kids, 7 (ok, ok, almost 8) and 10. All three of us got in for $12. It was extremely clean and well-maintained. My kids loved the unique animals - the Chacoan pecory and the Patagonian cavy. Swinging monkeys are always fun. My son didn't want to leave the aviary. There is a hands-on barnyard exhibit that my daughter especially loved. She didn't want to stop brushing the sheep. And she adored the "Staff Cat" complete with super hero cape. They were really looking forward to seeing the new Red Panda, but I had warned them that the panda is nocturnal. We never did get to see it. Good reason to go back. I would definitely recommend this for families. I love the fact that they don't try to be something they are not. Bigger isn't always better. This zoo is very affordable and accessible. read more

This is an awesome little zoo! Sure, it's not a hulking scrillion-acre behemoth, with hundreds of exotic animals from all corners of the globe or anything. But what all they DO have on hand, they do REALLY right. And it's not like they're bereft of animals or anything: there were red pandas, some capybara, an intimidating-as-heck bald eagle - a diverse spread of fauna. The exhibits seem really well laid out and thoughtfully designed. A river otter exhibit... with a tube that kids can crawl through, to see the otters up close and personal! Various primates' cages... with passages between them, to make life easy on the animals when they need to be sequestered during cage repairs, or receive veterinary treatment, or other things of that ilk! Just a ton of really thoughtful little touches like that all over the place. And plenty of benches, if you just want to chill out, rest your feet, and watch the flamingos complain at one another at random intervals. I'd advise getting there as close to opening in the morning as possible. As the day wears on, after various animals are fed, they get a bit nappish, and will tend to hide in a shady corner someplace. (I know the feeling; I'd do the same thing in my cubicle if I could.) And all for a relative pittance - $7, I believe it was. Hell of a bargain for the enjoyment you get out of the place! Totally coming back next time I find myself in and around Eureka. read more

SO awesome that on Wednesdays its half off day! So for two people it was $5.50. I was stoked. I was even more excited to see the Red Panda exhibit. It's a small little zoo but it's really charming and all the animals are really cute and cared for. Mostly all of them have been there all their lives or have been rescued like the two lil foxes, they got hit by cars but were saved and now residing with Rosemary the black bear. My favorite parts were getting to see the CUTEST red pandas, I wanted to jump in and steal one. My mind almost exploded with anxiety, I wanted them soo bad! I really like cute animals..... I also loved the petting zoo, the goats/lambs/donkey were silly. They were smelly and dirty but hey it's ok! If I'm ever in the area again, on a Wednesday, when they have a special exhibit then I would go back for sure. Also, you'll have no problem seeing everything in less than an hour. We got there at 4pm and they closed at 5pm, we got to see everything. Fun times! read more

The little train that could! You get a sense of pride from both the town and people of Eureka when you visit this beautiful and charming little (read tiny) zoo. Now, The zoo is accredited . . . and there are a few animals . . . a sleeping black bear (though the two trout in his pond were quite lively, hmmm) a couple of monkeys, some flamingos and even a few Paraguayan pigs . . . but the real reason to go is the banana slug exhibit. OK, enough teasing! It really is a cute and charming zoo that probably borrows an hour out of your day, and really could use (and deserves) your support. I decided to purchase an annual membership while I was visiting because I felt my money was most needed at this zoo, and the they have a reciprocal program which is good at both the Santa Barbara Zoo and the Woodland Park Zoo which I occasionally visit. Oddly, even though I had already signed a check for an annual membership to the zoo that both currently offers free admission and that I most likely will not be able to use again, the person accepting my donation actually apologized to me that the zoo would soon have to start charging a $3-$5 admission. I guess (and could actually understand) that locals might be upset, so I hope that the the zoo or city will find a way to continue to make it affordable for locals. While I think that the nominal charge for the first visit is fine, I don't think that I could justify paying more than once. The building is handsome, the grounds are manicured and there is a small cafe that offers typical zoo food made to order. When we visited there was a coupon for the cafe, so if you are planning on having lunch at the zoo, check their site to see if any are available for when you are visiting. There is also a small redwood grove as well as an interactive forest center that I particularly liked, and yes . . . there is a banana slug exhibit at eye level for everyone including children to see! read more

I love the Sequoia Park Zoo! I have been going there since I was a little kid, and I have a warm fuzzy spot in my heart for it. It is pretty small as zoos go, and the last time I went several of the exhibits were under construction, but still, this is one of my favorite zoos. Back in the day it was free but now there are admission costs, so don't forget your wallet. Make sure to check out the flamingos, and the petting zoo in the back next to the red panda exhibit (you used to be able to buy food to feed the animals in the petting zoo but alas, it is a thing of the past now). There is a neat indoor space for snakes and other animals, and it has some cool interactive exhibits too. You can get some food if you don't mind overpaying, and you can pick up souvenirs as well. Top it off with a visit to Sequoia Park next door, with cool trails and neat old slides. FYI...If you live in the area, the park has a meeting space you can reserve that is really nice. read more

Although I am often not a fan of zoos, because I generally feel that the animals don't have enough space. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I came to Eureka zoo. I feel that they are doing their best with these animals given their limited budget. And the red panda, so cute! You really have to see it. While on my road trip, my husband told me that Eureka has a zoo, and the zoo has...RED PANDAS. I almost died. We showed up early, and I was freaking out in the car and hubby was dying with laughter. Guess what? FIRST PEEPS IN THE ZOO. I took my time getting to the pandas, but omg you guys!! so goddamn cute. One of them kept walking and looking at me, seriously freaking out AND IT SQUEAKED!!! SQUEEEE! Also, petting zoo! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE goats, and got to snuggle and give some love to Jerry the Goat. I LOVE GOATS AND RED PANDAS. read more

So happy my wife and I stumbled upon this little gem on our honeymoon. We had such a great time. The staff was friendly and the animals were active and looked very happy. All the enclosures were really clean and it looks like they have big plans for the future. We got SOOO lucky to see the cute lil Red Panda's (we want to steal them and take them home oh so badly)m a lovable black bear, a cute silver fox and some silly primates. That's about it, I just really wish it was larger for both the publics ability to see more animals and for the animals to have more room. This is the cutest little zoo. We came a couple of years ago when paying was optional, donations were suggested. We came this weekend and I'm glad to see they charge now. We were pleasantly surprised to make it to the Boo at the Zoo, such a great time. No long lines for just candy like our hometown zoo, a handful of great learning activities for the kids. Loved it. The zoo is small but nestled in the middle of Sequoias makes it such a wonderful experience. I love that there is a petting area. My favorite animal this time around was the little fox in the bear enclosure, so adorable! When we came last time the Gibbons were singing and howling up a storm, it was awesome. This is a really nice little zoo, but it is quite small. We spent about an hour there and that felt like plenty of time. I really like how there are redwoods throughout the zoo itself, so the atmosphere is great, even outside the exhibits. The bear they have is really old and not really moving around any more, but they have a nice sign explaining her health status and how they're dealing with it. I thought it was interesting that there was a gray fox in the bear exhibit - at first we thought it was an interloper, but it had its own sign. The flamingos and all the other animals, including lots of birds and some small monkeys, have nice looking exhibit areas, but the BEST are the red pandas!!! They are really adorable and I guess have been added in the last five years, so if you haven't seen them before, it's definitely worth a visit. I feel like I want to add a star to my original post because I contacted the zoo and they were nice enough to send me 4 free tickets after our lackluster visit. Of course I originally paid for 5 tickets but I appreciated the gesture. The expiration date approached quickly and I had to give the tickets away so someone else could use them. We were not going to be in the area before the expiration date (We live 2 1/2 hours away). If we had been able to go I could update to say how the Zoo looks after the construction and updates, but we were not able to go and have not been back. Thank you to the management for caring about our first visit and our disappointment. It is so nice to see that you care and to be given the time of day! I would like to return the next time we are in town, to see the progress! :D read more

Eurekas pride and joy and crown jewel for parks. A must see for any out of town visitor. Enjoy the playground and BBQ picnic area, walk the trails down to the duck pond, walk the trails through the forest, take in the Zoo animals and snack bar and gift shop and stop and admire the flower garden. Our 4 year old had a great time. My husband and I loved it. The zoo is just the right size for an intimate, cozy experience - not overwhelming and truly lovely - and the staff were helpful and friendly. There is a great tunnel in the otter exhibit where you can crawl through and watch the otters swimming around you - the kid really enjoyed it - and the contact area was just great (chickens roaming around, goats, sheep). Highly recommend. So glad we went. Red pandas...omg!!! read more

It was sad as there were hardly an exhibits. My children were devastated. One primate cage was empty, all the terrariums were empty, the tank across from the otters was empty, and the entire right side of the park was empty. read more

Visited for the first time in about 3 years- I was blown away! There is a new river otter exhibit, salmon habitat, and plenty of activities for all ages- including a barnyard petting zoo and water feature for kids to play in. Certainly worth the time and the few dollars it costs to get in. read more

I love what they have done! I am a member and love to take my daughter there. We have a routine now and she loves to play in the amazingly fun water feature. The zoo has made super strides to make it fun for the whole family. I do miss reptiles though. That was one of my favorite things about the zoo. read more

I took my toddler to this zoo on our last trip. We spent no more than an hour here but we still saw everything so it was perfect for her. There are not a whole lot of animals but there was enough to see to make it worth it. She was the most excited about the flamingos, bird aviary, and red panda (adorable!), the petting zoo is always a hit as well. Great little zoo. Not the largest or best zoo but if you are in the area and like animals it's a must see. Check the feeding schedule before you go. The employees were all super nice also. The critter coral was closed but it's outdoors and it was raining lightly today so it may not have been that good. You can pet some of the animas in the barnyard though so that's good. I liked the aviary and especially that they have an African Grey parrot (she was a little shy but fairly new and was a rescue). The variety of birds there was good too. The other animals in the zoo were interesting also and the enclosures were also pretty large for the sizes of the animals. The river otter feeding was fun to watch. They have such good personalities and were hams to watch (one kept hoarding and hiding fish and another found the stash and stole his fish). The red pandas are also another interesting exhibit. It's a small zoo and you could probably see it in an hour, maybe 2 but if you like animal watching like me you could spend more time there also. For $7 for adults it's not too bad. It's cheaper for kids, seniors & Humbolt residents and I think they have specials sometimes but check their website for more info. read more
