I have boarded two expensive dressage horses at SVS over the course of 15-20 years. The place is great. I've paid more elsewhere in the area for a lot less. Great mature boarders. Great owners who will give you the shirt off their back, but DO have high expectations of their employees, for the benefit of the horses and their owners. I know for a fact that some of the negative reviews were written by people that got fired (one of whom refused to leave the property after getting fired). They pay attention to every detail and are great people. Once they are made aware of issues, they fix them right away. My first choice for boarding in the area. read more

Do not bring your horse here. Totally run down facility, which I could overlook if the care of the horses was good. I brought 2 minis and within a week, there was a power drill left in their corral, wood railing down in their corral with 6 or so nails sticking up. The final straw was no water for the horses in the morning. None of the horses were watered and some had no water whatsoever. I moved them immediately. Apparently, there is a staffing problem, okay, however the owner should should check that the horses are cared for if she realizes there is a staffing issue. And the hay they feed is junk hay, looks awful. I brought my own hay as I would not feed my horses that crap! I was so upset that I subjected my babies to this care! Avoid at all costs!! read more

If you want to potentially lose your horse due to irresponsible unprofessional actions then this is the place to go. Darlene Hannigan is quite literally the neighborhood menace, I have personally seen these people dragging horses with tractors and wench straps. We lived on site for a while and her unsafe practices caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to our trailer because she was letting horses in past dark. Now come to find out this lady driving around dumping roosters and rabbits around the neighborhood. She backed into somebody's Chicken Coop the other day on their Road after dumping a few rabbits on their property and drove off without saying anything about the damage. Doesn't come as a surprise considering the lady tried everything in her power to harass us while we were on site. The positive reviews on this Yelp website were forced reviews given by Young helpers at the cost of threats by Darlene. I managed this place for over a year and must conclude this is NOT a safe place to keep your horse. There are multiple safety hazards including so much hazardous junk that lines the property where horses are allowed to just freely bolt down to pasture... not to mention the metal and junk IN the pasture. There is exposed electrical line above stalls and in the ground, and nails exposed on boards, an Akita dog that chases horses out into the pasture and back in at dark (having caused multiple hroses to slip and fall or run through fencing), and many horses during my stay broke through weak, rotted wood fencing and wandered overnight (the property is NOT closed). I have witnessed the ranchowner with-holding information from the boarders on what happens with their horses, and there have always been exploited and overworked staff because the place loves to stay understaffed. The owner takes ZERO accountability on what takes place at that ranch and does not properly lead her team off staff but instead exploits their help and uses them up. She would also bring horses in (a herd of 14) long after dark. Subsequently, a horse body slammed and damaged my fifth wheel, which could have wreaked devastating consequences for the horse. We asked if the ranchowner would be paying for our fifth wheels damage, since it happened on her property and the horse's care was under HER business, and she must've had some sort of liability insurance. However, she denied ON VIDEO that they have liability insurance, told me she wouldn't be paying for anything, and then told me to CHARGE THE BOARDER as if the incident of bringing horses in too late was the boarder's fault! When asked WHY she kept bringing horses in so late, she said on video: "It's my property, I can bring them in any time I want." I also witnessed the ranchowner hanging a mare by a strap from a backhoe for over 2 hours in an effort to get the horse to stand on its feet. The horse (who is 34 years old) had given up, the strap was around its teets, and she was practically dangling upside down for most of this struggle. It was so disturbing that two of us had to walk away. When asked MULTIPLE TIMES, the ranchowner REFUSED to call the boarder to tell her what was happening with the horse. The boarder still didn't know the next day. I would not recommend this as a safe place to entrust your horse, and I brought in 80% of the new clientele. Therefore, I feel it is my moral duty to whistleblow on what I saw when I peeled back the curtain. read more

I have stabled my horses at Sequim Valley Stables for over 5 years and have never had an issue with my horse's safety or care so I take exception to the two negative reviews. And yes, the place is aesthetically lacking - but what is more important to me is that the horses are happy, and it shows. If there is an issue with a board down or something that could injure a horse (and we all know that this stuff happens even in the best managed place) it's taken care of as soon as it's brought to their attention. I've never seen the horses without water - so I can't corroborate the reviewer's statement about water - but that is definitely not my experience. In fact, the current barn manager cleans the water buckets regularly. Included in the basic board rate is daily cleaning, of course, as well as shavings for the stall, blankets put on and taken off during the season, the same for fly masks. Fly spray (provided by the owner) is also sprayed before they go out. Supplements and grain as provided by the owner is fed daily - all this at no extra charge. The old mares at the barn referenced in a review are indeed high maintenance - and Darlene goes above and beyond to help them out in ways that are hard to imagine, including special medications and feed, and helping them get up when they can't. I don't know too many places that would give such specialized care. So, yes, there are issues, but that's not unusual at any facility. But bottom line is that Russ and Darlene care about the horses, and it shows. My horse is quite happy there -- as am I. read more

I have been working at SVS for several different horse owners for almost 2 years. I have seen it undergo new management and new borders. This place truly cares about the well being of both its horses and owners. Horses kick down boards at any and every stable; at SVS it is taken care of as soon as possible and taken very seriously by the current barn manager. I have never seen any of the horses without water. Grain and supplements are given to each horse as needed, hay is provided (unless you bring your own) and if you would like for it to be in a hay net, soaked, or added to your own hay; it is all done with no extra cost. Horses get turnout everyday, including some horses in different fields to ensure safety and comfort. Not only this, but every single stall has a run in so the horses are never forced to be inside. When I had issues with the arena, it was immediately taken care of. Allowing me to safely do my job. This is a full care facility (blankets, fly sheets, fly spray, fly masks, etc) with a completely fair cost that you are not going to find anywhere else. While it has some cosmetic and aesthetic disadvantages, it is NOT dangerous. read more
