Booked an appointment with a mua for a special night, but rarely wearing makeup i really didn't have anything for her to base anything on, plus wanting to take advantage of the 30% off of sephora, plus 4x points, i booked a service with sephora today. Not being familiar with the make up artists here i chose any artist as the artist and selected my time, took a shower so my face could be as fresh as could be and headed out. The booking page suggested to come with a clean product free face to benefit fully from the service, which i did. I walked in to my appointment on time and let the person know i had scheduled a service but had not chosen any artist, to which she replied it was okay, she would assign one. The make up artist assigned to me came over and i let her know i was interested in learning how to do a cut crease on my eyes, and also to learn how to apply the christian dior backstage foundation i had been color matched with and purchased the day before at sephora. She commented that the foundation was an exact match and how they had done a great job matching my complexion. I also let her know that i was trying to take advantage of both the NARS event that was happening in-store currently, today, and the 30% off on sephora products and 4* points ending. She let me know that a cut crease on my eyes is a special charge because cut creases take over an hour to do, so she would not be able to show me how to do that. I told her i had hooded eyes and wanted to make them appear less prominent and was also looking for a nice fresh bronzed look. The artist chose items to do my face, although she never mentioned what they were or why she chose them, i do remember a ysl mascara because of the branding , but have no idea of the color or why that particular brand was chosen. I believe there was a christian dior product close to my skin shade but i don't know which. I know a few eye shadow palettes were brought by, but again there wasn't any rhyme or reason to who or what they were, or why they were chosen for me. There wasnt any rhyme no talk about the application process or how to use the items and the whole process was rather lacking. I also believe the makeup application was rather bland, i looked washed out and pale on one end, but also like i had an mma black eye from another angle. The artist who did my face was a young bare faced pretty caucasian girl, i'm an aunty who barely wears makeup. In store there were poc mua artists that were available. The other artists in the store all had make up on, and appeared to have experience with makeup. I felt the managers choice of artist was questionable, but not knowing if the other artists had been booked, or how assignments were made,i didn't question it. After the service the mma told me she had to check me out, to which i let her know that i had booked and paid for the service online. She said she would get her manager to explain it to me, to which a male sephora employee came over and told me that i only paid a deposit for the service, and that deposit is only a precautionary charge , in case a client books a service and then ghosts them, that they can charge them, but since i showed up for the service, i needed to pay for the service in store. Which i stg, all now still don't make any sense to me. Personally i believe if you suggest a client show up fresh faced and clean for an appointment. You need to moisturize and prep the face for makeup. I also believe if you are selling a product, and client has bought said product from your establishment, and asks you how to apply said product, you kinda should, especially if they paid for a service and mentioned they would like to learn. I also believe if a client lets you know they would like to take advantage of product promotions that are currently happening, some of those products should be included in the facial makeup application. This was a total waste of time and opportunity. Might have to take a break from Sephora, totally not worth it. read more

I think this is one of the better Sephora locations. It's not in my area but I did a pickup order and also some in person shopping while I was there. I have to say, everyone was friendly. You did not have to look for anyone because the staff constantly kept checking in to see if you wanted or needed any assistance. I also liked that the store was very organized and from the way it was set up, made it easy for you to find what you were looking for.They also had a nice selection of perfumes. Although they had no Brown Girl Jane bottles, I still was pleased that they had others I was interested in smelling. Would not recommend this as a place to work at all. Dedicated employee of almost 3 years and was practically coerced into resigning. They will gaslight you into being the enemy because of 1 customer complaint. It will always be your fault. Even if the client is in the wrong - they will find a reason to make you the bad guy at the expense of the "customer experience." New management is awful and treated me like vermin. This place is like a cult and if you don't obey, well be prepared to either be fired or blackmailed into quitting. I've lost 2 fellow coworkers who have been through the same experience as me. I have been going to the Sephora at Columbus Circle for years and it is still one of my top favorite Sephora locations. The staff here are pretty amazing, down to earth, knowledgable and always willing to help. The products are pretty much always stocked and there's always samples available. I recently made a purchase valued over $100 and during the checkout, the cashier asked if I was in a rush and if I was not, then she would be willing to do a complimentary Perk HydraFacial prior to my purchase because any purchase valued at $75 or more would automatically qualify you. As she did the mini-facial, she also gave out skincare tips as well as insider scopes for the VIB Rouge. I have also gotten a couple of full makeovers done here and on both occasions, they were pretty good. They also asked about my outfits, the occasions, etc. prior to the application, as well as color suggestions for certain outfits if I don't have time to come over for a makeover. This location is definitely better than most... even their nail polish stations are spot on when they actually offer polish to the public. read more

I walked out of Sephora at Columbus Circle in tears today. I felt insulted, bullied and hurt by the Manager, Amy. I am a regular customer who spends a lot of money at this location and on Sephora website. I always go to the Columbus Circle location to shop and have my mini-facial done by Ana. I saw Ana today when she was doing a facial for another customer. I asked Ana if she could do my facial. She checked the appointments in her device and said "Yes and you will be the next one." She let me enter my information in her device and she said I was booked. Another customer overheard our conversation and asked me if Ana was good. I said "Yes. I love Ana. She is the best." This customer then said she wanted Ana to do her facial and she didn't want the other woman assigned to her. Amy informed me Ana would take this customer ahead of me and I was shocked. Amy insisted that her decision was right because that woman came before me. I couldn't believe Amy could argue on something that was so obvious, as I booked Ana first. It was apparent to me that Amy made her decision perhaps based on race and I seemed more easy-going than the other customer. I hope Sephora can look into this issue and review this with Amy. Amy needed to understand the circumstance and then make the right decision so no one would get hurt. read more

Right away, I was greeted by Kayla who asked if I was intending to purchase at the store, asked if I was a beauty insider, and offered me a basket. I love when Advisors are fearless with their approach to beauty insider because as a decade long rouge client, I appreciate when advisors know right off the bat that I am very loyal to SEPHORA. I saw that the entire front of the store has gondolas of clean beauty products from brands like Merit, Westman Atelier, Rose Inc, and Rare Beauty. I wanted to try out certain complexion products and was curious to see if the beauty studio was open for quick services, knowing that mini makeovers had been phased out. Kayla was solution oriented and explained to me the featured focus service that was being offered and was transparent about whether or not there would be availability. Thankfully there was and I was ecstatic! I appreciated the team's ability to accommodate me without a reservation, and thankfully it was not a high traffic hour since I came into the store at around 7:00 pm. Jeremy at the beauty studio did a FANTASTIC job assisting me with all of my needs today. I have had several issues with color matching in store or figuring out what shades I am online. Even though I am a freelance makeup artist, i will always appreciate another artist's eye when it comes to color matches. I also love to pick a fellow artist's brain when it comes to recommendations. Jeremy introduced me to the upgraded ColorIQ system which I have been familiar with since it launched back in 2013-2014. The service has improved TREMENDOUSLY and helped me feel confident that the choices both myself and Jeremy made were as close to my skin match as possible. Jeremy asked all the right questions regarding my skin type, what my lifestyle was like to understand my makeup wearing preferences, and seamlessly flowed into every part of the service process like we were not even having a service. It truly just felt like a conversation with a friend. Granted, it was not a high traffic time in the store being it was in the late evening when I visited, but the amount of time and care that went into our interaction (because it was much more than just a service to me) left such a valuable impression on me. Jeremy was able to introduce me to new products I didn't even expect to purchase. We even raved about SEPHORA pro tools to another client who was patiently waiting for her service while mine was wrapping up. I'm not sure if SEPHORA still has a focus on summit selling, but Jeremy did it flawlessly. I expected to spend about $100 in new complexion products & ended up being so happy with my purchase of almost $300. Jeremy, if you are reading this, SEPHORA Columbus Circle & the company in general is so lucky to have a Licensed Beauty Advisor like yourself in store. Special shout-out to Jamie from loss prevention (yes, loss prevention can have AMAZING customer service, Jamie is the proof in the pudding) as well because he remembered me from my frequent visits to SEPHORA Ansonia and made me feel welcomed while in my service with Jeremy. Being remembered as a client at a store I had never been to before made this visit even more special! This was my first visit to any Sephora. I resort to feel sexy and alluring rather than just be plain and bland with a New Year beginning. As I entered this location, I was approached if I needed help which I desperately need. The hostess found an available sales associate who guided my beauty needs in a small amount of time as I had to go to work within a half hour. The sales associate applied eyeliner, eye shadow, and mascara as well as giving me a crash course on Beauty 101 Basics. All the staff is dressed conservatively in class black. The staff is very attentive and listens to patrons' needs. I got what I want. Their shopping baskets are cute yet fit to the products and the philosophy of the company's image for beauty needs. Personally, I hate carrying big and bulky shopping baskets. Their products are pricey but it's the service you're paying for. Sephora provides customer service with personal attention as my needs are from the basic level rather than advanced user. They were extremely attentive utilizing the ABC in customer service. Personally, I'd rather shop at Sephora rather than your typical Duane Reade as I need assistance. read more

I had a wonderful experience today at Sephora! Props to Salma who was incredibly efficient, knowledgeable, patient, helpful, and kind. I needed a new foundation and was overwhelmed by the options. Did a little research an narrowed down to a few brands focusing on those recommended for mature skin types: IT cosmetics, Estee Lauder Futurist, NARS, and Armani. Salma expertly helped to find the right shades for me and gave a few samples so I could see how they worked over the next few days so I could best decide. She was naturally cheerful, honest, and encouraging. A true joy with whom to work. Props also to Amy who had greeted me at the entrance with grace and excellence, swiftly found out my needs, and directed me to the right person - Salma :) BTW - they had all the options I requested in stock for which I was grateful as this saved much time running around. And other staff were so helpful - you could see the warm camaraderie in staff spreading support and efficiency for each other. If you like getting foundation spilled onto your wool-cashmere coat that you bought yourself on a student budget, getting your account information changed for the sales associate's convenience, and looking like Michael Jackson (in his repeat sex offender court trial days), this place is for you! In June, at the checkout counter the sales associate asked for my phone number to load my account, and surprise--she wasnt listening. I look at my receipt, and it listed "Jeanette Tamaura." I knew I HAD to keep my receipt, since I knew it's not going to be on my account. When I came back to return the too-pale foundation, it turned out the associate made a new account for "Jeanette Tamaura," listed the sole purchase date as the birthday!! This account only has one purchase, and it's from that date. The second issue I had going here, I was matched with another too-pale foundation, with concealer, bronzer, a Beautyblender, and primer. I understand, it's human error, but every time? Recurring mistakes are expensive and time consuming. Today was the worst offense of all: the Becca associate insisted, "I can foundation match you! I know I can!" (No, duh, I left looking like the inappropriate MJ yet AGAIN--this wasnt the worst part, btw.) The associate brought the Skin Love foundation and he broke off the cap! He paused, I looked at my jacket, and he didnt even acknowledge what he did! He proceeded to re-assemble it, and put the tip directly on my face. He never acknowledged that he did that! The manager was standing behind him the whole time holding baskets too! Apparently Sephora associates need training on how to use a cap, pump, and basic sanitary practices? I have been a Sephora customer since it first opened in San Francisco in 2001 and have been to several locations in different US cities and in other countries, and this specific Columbus Circle location hires the most incompetent associates. This specific Sephora was pretty awesome. I came in on a busy Saturday but was treated like royalty like every other customer there that day. Staff were willing and able to answer any and all questions and even offered a Hydrofacial with my purchase of $75. It was clear the staff was knowledgeable about their products. They even informed me that one of the managers of a product they carried was there that day for promotions. I was very impressed by my visit. In general, I think Sephora has gone downhill in terms of their VIB group and valued customer promotions. Many times I've walked into Sephora and felt like I have been judged upon. This rating is for the full face makeup application, which Nenny (sp?) did. During my consultation, Nenny asked me what look I was going for. I told her I was taking engagement photos in the park & wanted a dewy glowy summery look. I told her I hated cakey heavy makeup & usually used sowmthing light like a BB cream. She basically completely disregarded what o asked for & put on super heavy CC cream, followed by super heavy concealer all over my face. I looked like I was wearing a mask & every time I smiled, I got heavy makeup crinkles in my face. It was flat out disgusting. Instead of glowy, I got super matte, and instead of summery natural, I got vampy heavy eyes & gross mask face. I like that this location is inside the Columbus Shops, and unless you come during rush hour (5pm+) its usually pretty neat. I came in yesterday for a Makeover Deluxe appt. and had a great experience. The beauty advisor assigned to me was Skylar and she was awesome! Super friendly from the get and I liked that she asked me a lot of questions to get a feel of what I wanted and what products I'm into. The process was smooth and felt like a girl talk session more than anything. Ultimately we decided to go with a soft brown smoky look and a nude lip given that it was for my graduation portraits - I absolutely loved it and the pictures came out great. Even better is that the service is practically free so as long as you make a purchase (amount varies depending on your Beauty Insider status). Besides the makeovers, they also have plenty of other services you can book online, including beauty classes which are very fun and informative! My only recommendation is to come ready with a list of the products you want to purchase, as things can get out of hand (and budget) veryyy quickly lol. read more

I went in to return something I purchased uptown (tarte frixxtion stick, I wanted to love it but it made me break out) and the woman at the register(she had short brown wavy hair) smiled and even complimented my headband. Wow this is a tiny Sephora. I'm a guy, so normally I don't frequent these stores. Rugged good looks and sparkly makeup don't exactly go hand in hand. But there are occasions where my boo spots the black and white S and wants to come check out the store. We came here on a cold day after checking out an event at the Lincoln center (my boo plans the best dates). The store here is tiny compared to the other locations my boo has dragged me to. With such precious real estate, the men's care section is even smaller than that from the other locations. Other than that, I don't know anything else about it. read more

Brightly lit, items clearly displayed and the great thing is you can take home samples to try at home to see how they would affect your skin and if it is a product you will purchase. Let me first say that I had no idea that there was an entire mall at Columbus Circle. Why didn't anyone tell me!!! Anyways, I've never been to a Sephora location before, but after scouring many Yelp reviews I decided that this would be the one to try. I needed something that was not too crowded, and the staff was helpful because make-up definitely isn't my forte. My expectations may have been a little too high because when I first entered I was really disappointed that no one greeted me, or asked if I needed assistance. Usually, I hate when sales associates bombard you at the door, but considering I'm a rookie (and I'm sure I looked like one) I expected some help. Or maybe I'm just needy. Anyway, I wondered around for a few minutes picking things up and putting this back hoping someone would save me, and FINALLY they did. I'm pissed that I can't remember his name, but he was super cute, skinny, with short blonde hair. Anyway, he was very helpful asking me about my skin, helping me figure out my skin type, and educating me on what types of foundations would be best for me. It seemed like he was pushing one brand in particular (hourglass) because everything he brought over was from them. When certain things we'rent working I had to ask him what other brands I could try before he actually brought me something different. He was very patient testing the different products on my face, and switching them out when I didn't like something. The cashiers were also very friendly, and sweet. When I signed up for the Sephora store card, the woman behind the counter even told me not to use the points I've wracked up because they didn't have anything good at the moment. She also gave me my birthday "gift" 2 weeks early which I thought was sweet. Overall it's a decent location. I'd come back again. UPDATE: I had to return the make-up I bought because it made me breakout. I was told that it would be good for oily/acne prone skin, but apparently not. Not sure if I should blame that on the associate that helped me or my sensitive skin, but that's my update! I went to look around the store and found other associates that helped me find other stuff, when my hands were full (because I didn't expect to buy so much haha) another associate helped me and my mom with baskets without even asking :') the whole staff were so nice, friendly, helpful and kind they literally made my day. I've never had a bad experience at any Sephora's but omg this Sephora has the nicest staff. The greeter is usually the only one who will speak to me. I try to avoid this shop but sometimes I need to go. Ugh. For example today I needed foundation but didn't know what tone. There appeared to be lots of staff talking to each other. No one would help me. I wandered for about ten minutes looking for a friendly face but did not see any. This is why I use amazon. There is a BRAND NEW Sephora in Columbus Circle. Did y'all know that? Oh and its in a totally different location - which is bigger, brighter and way more fabulous than the one before (2nd floor, up the escalators and to the left....to the left, to the left...). Official opening of the store is today (7/20)...but because one of my gals is a VIB member we got a sneak peak last night at their pre launch party. The party was pretty amazing...but I suppose I should review the new store, right? Where to start.... Makeup is the first department you hit when you enter through the big glass doors. All the favorites are there: urban decay, tarte, etc. Circle around the Too Faced station and you find yourself at the nail polish bar, 360-degrees of just about every color nail polish you could imagine. Keep walking through the store and you'll find specialty designer products and cashiers to the right, skin/hair care to the left and fragrance in the back. There is so much space inside the store you could place a dance floor right in the middle... oh and did I mention that there were plenty of Sephora guys and gals dancing during the event last night? So much space! The décor of the store is just as fabulous as the other recently renovated stores... black, white & shiny. The combination of materials gives the store a glamorous yet sophisticated look and I felt both glamorous and sophisticated shopping inside of it. And as always the staffers were fabulous. We were stopped by no less than 10 employees asking if we needed any assistance... in a brand new store we totally needed help and appreciated them asking. I usually find shopping for makeup or skin care products stressful, but my experience at this Sephora was great because Dean was so helpful and so wonderful at understanding what I was looking for and finding the products I needed, that this was a great experience and I will be going back to this Sephora. He really understood what I was looking for and quickly, efficiently, but with grace, kindness, and wit helped me not only find the right products, but helped me feel positive and happy about the process, and the items I purchase are working great. My eyes often have a bad reaction to makeup that goes near my eyes, but he found a concealer from Hourglass that works great and does not affect my eyes negatively, and he very kindly explained how to apply it the best way, and I bought a great Beauty Blender sponge to help me do so, and I bought a wonderful Cicapair calming mist (something I never would have tried) and it is wonderful. Dean was very sweet AND extremely good at what he does AND he made me feel as though I was not covering up facial flaws, but rather bringing out the best in my face. read more

This is one of the better locations in the city. Employees here are knowledgable, friendly and very much customer focused. Some of the "cast members" (as they refer to themselves as) at the 34th street and Flatiron locations could stand to learn a thing or twelve. Great selection of products here from upscale brands to more cost efficient, yet quality, ones as well. Plus no one type of section gets ignored - there's something here for everyone in make-up, fragrances (single bottles and gift sets for both men and women!), skin care, hair care, nail care, beauty tools (flat irons, curling wands, face exfoliators, nail files, tweezers, lash curlers, brushes, etc.), nail polishes (seriously - any type of color, finish (matte, hi-gloss, shimmery, sheer, metallic!), brands (Sephora's own store brand, Deborah Lipman, NARS and more!) and all the weird trendy stuff like nail caviar beads, crackle, magnetic, etc. Lines are managed well here and they will gift wrap and make things pretty for freezies. Absolutely love this location...although I'm knocking off a star because it does get really crowded sometimes which makes going through their narrow aisles very challenging given their elaborate displays and occasionally limited walking space. It also gets really hot in here because of the intense lighting. But overall, still a great store! read more

This Sephora doesn't have anything in stock. You can find and beauty professionals to help you out. I had literally have been in the store 20 minutes and couldn't find anyone to help me. When I finally found someone, for the first time in all the years I shopped at Sephora, I had someone tell me to find a product myself. The service in here is awful. There was not one person that truly helped me. read more
