Ironically, as a young college student, I was a makeup artist at Sephora's original flagship store in San Francisco when it first opened well over two decades ago. Today, as a customer, I've watched the company decline into the complete opposite of what it originally set out to be. At the time, Sephora was at the forefront of transforming the makeup buying experience. It wasn't just about buying makeup at a superstore as it is now. It was about having an experience with skilled makeup artists with expertise in brand awareness, artistry, and customer service. Right about now, you're probably asking why this is a 5 star review when it sounds so negative review. This is where things take a turn... I'm writing this review specifically for the Sephora in Marina Del Rey because despite what I think has declined throughout the company, in my experience, this location consistently strives to uphold the original standard and vision that made Sephora so special. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted immediately. If I'm browsing, someone always checks in to see if I need help. If they aren't the best person to answer my question, they have no problem introducing me to someone who is. I've also worked with associates here who have been incredibly articulate and knowledgeable about the specific products they specialize in, and that level of expertise really stands out. Great Sephora location!! Parking is free and usually available, but the Waterside MDR can get pretty full during peak hours and in those cases parking can be rough. When no parking in lot, makes it really tough since no close street parking nor other lots. Always greeted warmly by front entrance greeter and asked if we need a basket. Overall staff are usually friendly and very helpful. Mostly good selection and stock is kept up pretty well. read more

I couldn't make the code scan on my receipt work so here is my review. I had to buy new foundation yesterday and my trip to Sephora in the Marina Del Rey shopping mall could not have been more pleasant. I had no trouble parking even in the shade on a Sunday. I was quickly brought to Jessica who is a foundation expert par excellence. She asked many questions about my preferences but it was in terms of color matching that she really showed her skill. It included going to the front of the store to check in natural light. A day later I am still very pleased. Ask for Jessica. Also check out was a breeze. read more

Apparently they can randomly choose to be closed whenever they choose even during supposed working hours, 2pm on a Monday. I approached the door and attempted to open it but it was locked only to have a hot mess looking of an employee scream "we're closed". Maybe put a sign on the door saying and explaining why you are closed so I'm not made to feel like I wandered into some random trailer park in Marina Del Rey. read more

When it comes to the Marina del Rey Sephora. I think this location is by far the best I've been to, and I've been to a fair share over the holiday shopping season. There was plenty of staff, and a really good selection, I didn't have to fight my way through the isles. and everyone was knowledgeable and more helpful than any other that I've been in. One thing I struggled with is the fact that there's so many businesses, and not a lot of parking, it can be quite cumbersome, trying to find a spot. But when it comes to the great friendly service, and the helpful staff, it's worth waiting for a parking spot. read more

This store is notorious for employees running around on headsets, but why do you need a headset if it's not to offer better service? Every time I come here there's a long line most of the time there's one cashier which is ridiculous and employees will stand around an empty register talking and clocking in and out for lunch and not even look up at customers or bother to open a register. Stopped into this location because I need makeup setting spray. The employees at this location are really friendly. As usual I ended up getting more than I planned. If you are not signed up for their rewards program you should. You will get a birthday gift ( you can choose from makeup, hair or skin kits). My birthday was a couple months ago and I was still able to claim my gift. On my way out I was pleased to see the Bridgerton make up collection. Well-stocked Sephora store with helpful, knowledgable employees. I came in for a new foundation and powder, but left with so much more! Good for my look, bad for my wallet. In looking for a new foundation, I did the usual pump and blend on my arm. Soon, an employee came up and asked if I wanted to be color matched. I agreed. The color expert who helped me was fantastic. She took her time identifying a shade that blended undetectably with my own skin tone: applying with/without primer, taking me out into natural light to confirm a match, demonstrating how to use concealer (which I've never tried in all my years). Yes, a sales person, but one with depth of training and understanding that helps the buyer make an informed purchase. Another perk happened during checkout. I mentioned I missed my birthday gift last month, and she allowed me to receive my birthday bonus set! Really kind. Parking lot is a bit hectic but we found a spot quickly. After stopping by a few days ago, I wanted to make sure I gave a rave review for this location. I went in and the customer service was impeccable! I felt welcomed and many employees were helpful and greeted me. One employee, her name is V, was super helpful and incredibly kind. I didn't have a lot of knowledge on products and she was patient with my questions, and gave honest opinions. Also I appreciated that she didn't hover around me (sometimes my introvert self can't take a lot of interaction with a new person right off the bat.) After our first encounter she told me her name which made it a lot easier to approach her for more questions. She helped color match me and made me feel comfortable about not removing my face mask to color match. I'm pretty sure all employees were wearing a face mask. I bought over $200 purely because customer service was so good, honestly. I was just gonna buy a foundation, (and honestly maybe just go home and buy it online). I'll definitely be back to this location, I went to a different Sephora location years ago that unfortunately gave very bad customer service and never went back lol. Ps. Also so happy to see the beauty industry leaning into clean and vegan products. I had to look up if some of the products I was buying was vegan, but I bought the majority from merit which was labeled in store as all vegan. This is hands down one of the worst Sephoras I've been to. There are so many assistants working there, yet none of them are particularly helpful. If you're out of stock for an item, order it in! Even if you're a makeup novice, the Sephora employees will walk you through every little step to make sure you look flawless. The employees at the Sephora in the Marina Del Rey do a kick ass job at getting me what I need. I originally wanted a lightening cream for my sunspots but the employee recommended some makeup with vitamin C in it that would do the trick. The ladies here are always pleasant and wear makeup that's always on point. Their knowledge about the products is impressive. I'll definitely be back for more products. Oh, yeah! They also give you their honest opinion about certain makeup brands that aren't up to snuff like the new Rihanna line. You also gotta sign up for the Sephora Club for free birthday giveaways. I'm stopping by today to pick up my free bday gift, an eye primer and a Huda eyeshadow palette because who can't live without Huda? That would be me! Tip for the day: if you spend more than $50, then you get a free makeover. Oh, and don't forget the color matching. First, I thought it was a waste but it really does match your skin tone spot on. Just came to this brand new Sephora location in the same plaza as Sugarfish, Mendocino Farms, Paper Source. They just opened yesterday! The space was clean and products were organized well and had a good flow. The consultants were knowledgeable in recommending me serums and moisturizers that suited my skincare needs. The rep even took into account my age and didn't try to sell me on the most expensive products. Skincare and makeup is an investment so it's hard for me to shell out a lot of money. Most of the time,the ladies aren't that busy so i have all their attention when i need assistance. I don't wear make up but they all look great with their face artwork. (Not really sure if it's ok to call it as such.) But it is a talent. I checked in here numerous times because this is the only place where i could get moisturizers and the same time,samples because i am a moisturizer addict. The ladies are helpful and knowledgeable plus they take their time. I have purchased all sorts of fragrance gifts too and i didn't encounter any problem. Parking can be tough but no long wait.
