Disappointed With Mismarked Dior Lipstick at Sephora I was really excited to pick up a Dior lipstick at Sephora, especially because the shade I tested in the store was a gorgeous maroon red. The display color, the swatch, and even the label all showed a deep, rich red that looked perfect. But when I got home and tried it on in natural lighting, it was brown. Not just a slight shift--an entirely different color than what I saw in-store. I double-checked the packaging to make sure I didn't accidentally grab the wrong one, but it was the exact same shade number I tested. I'm not sure if the tube was mismarked or if the tester was incorrect, but it was really disappointing for a brand as high-end as Dior and a retailer as reliable as Sephora. For the price, you expect accuracy. I'll be returning it, but hopefully Sephora will double-check their testers and labeling to prevent this from happening again. read more

Sephora has nice beauty products to try and play with, and associates are generally very helpful. The popular Fenty line must out quick - they are always missing products (today it was body lava), but I really like their selection of NARS makeup. First visit during pandemic - whats different is you have to line up outside the store and wait to enter per capacity limits. They spray hand sanitizer in your palms while you wait and you are instructed not to touch anything in the store. No sampling products allowed. If you want to see how a shade of lipstick, foundation, etc looks, an associate will swipe some on a piece of paper for you to look at. I don't plan on changing foundation, so there's no need to try that on, but there is a certain allure to being able to "try before you buy." However, safety first! read more

So this used to be the store I would go to. Now Kohl's by my house has a Sephora inside. I received a Sephora gift card for my birthday and decided to cash it in yesterday. I went to kohl's spent quite sometime picking out what I wanted. Went to check out and they don't take Sephora gift cards!!! So I decided to place my order online and pick up in the store. Had another stop I had to make then headed over there. I arrived to the mall at 802 apparently they close at 8. I did not check the closing time assuming it was 9. I wasted my time and gas to be told as they were closing the doors come back tomorrow. Showed up today stood in-line once I got to the register she says oh you have to go to the corner and wait!! Stood there for about 10 mins before someone found me. It literally took not even 2 mins to get my order, after someone found me. Poor customer service all around if you need help all the employees are busy talking to each other in the back of the store. Sephora please make it known where you have to pick up prior to having your guests wait in line and someone to check the corner often. I will be purchasing online from now on if I go back. read more

I've been coming here for years and have never had an issue. During my most recent visit a staff member helped me find the right color foundation. The service at this location can be hit or miss. I often feel like I'm being pressured to buy something that I didn't even come in for. The past two experiences were night and day in comparison to each other. For the first of the two, I went in and asked about a mask that they didn't have in stock, the girl then whisked me away to a vendor rep for FAB who totally steamrolled me and didn't listen to a word I said and made me feel worse about my skin than I did when I first came in. She pressured me into buying her product but didn't even explain it was a peel off mask which I hate with a passion, I feel this is an important detail because it speaks to the application of the product. My more recent visit, I was approached first by a vendor rep for Hourglass, and I was curious about their foundation because I've been interested in switching. She told me about it and found my shade quickly and completed my face with bronzer and blush, she wasn't pushy at all and when I told her products I have from other brands she let me know they worked well with the product even though they weren't hourglass. Then, based on concerns she and I discussed during the consultation she told me about an amazing moisturizer she's been using and guided me to a Sephora associate who was really nice and knowledgeable. Two totally different recent experiences so it's hard to rate!! 2 stars to the former visit and 5 for the latter so I guess that makes 3/5? read more

Worst customer service out of all Sephora stores in the NJ/NY area. I returned a few products in exchange for store credit. I asked TWICE if the giftcard can be used for online purchases - to which they replied, I can. Well, I tried purchasing online with the card they gave me and it didn't work. Called Sephora customer service and they told me the card can be used for in-store purchases only. So I called the Menlo location, explained the problem, expecting them to own up to their mistake and credit my online account. The manager, Emily, was so rude and talked as if it was my fault for taking the giftcard. It didn't matter that one of her employees told me that the card can be used online. Takes zero responsibility for their mistake and blamed the customer instead. Usually, Sephora's customer service is great. But this is a place to be avoided. They are extremely rude. read more

I was at this mall for a Yelp Event. I forgot my red lipstick. I decided I would check out Sephora. To my amazement and good fortune I walked in and went to the Sephora lipstick section. I found the perfect red and wanted to try it. A nice salesman who was helping another customer saw I was having trouble with the lipstick ( it wouldn't turn up to open it.) He stopped what he was doing and opened up a brand new one for me to try... I used it and out the door I went back to my event. This lipstick stayed on for hours not like my original one... I was so happy with the Sephora lipstick I went back after my event and bought it... I thanked the kind sales rep and went to the checkout ...... I met another sales rep named Shovana ( I think that was her name .) She took the time to find my original account and let me know I had hundreds of points left on it.. I walked out with my Sephora red lipstick and some samples... This store is kept very clean and organized... Everything is easy to read and displayed beautifully... The staff couldn't have been more helpful or nicer... This Sephora Store in Menlo Pk Mall is doing everything right! It was such a pleasure shopping here. I had a very good experience here. I was dining in the area and my waitress had great colored lipstick. I asked where she got it and showed my the lipstick itself. I drove right over to the nearest Sephora where she had purchased it. Walked into an overly crowded Sephora which by the way I've never been in before. As I clearly looked lost within a minute someone walked up and showed me right to that particular lipstick. She took about 5 colors and walked me over to the makeover area where I tested them out once she sanitized them. I was very content with everything so far. Then I got in line which was quite long and when I was called to the register I walked up and someone else who worked their jumped in front of me and said this will just take a second. Which it did not. The girl behind the counter proceeded to ring her up ahead of me after she called me over there. They then had to chat and type in her number to get her discount, then she had questions. As I began to realize this was gonna be awhile I walked back to the line which she had called me from and guess what. I get yelled at by another worker for cutting the line???? What??? I kinda have a temper so I handed her the lipstick and said here keep your stupid lipstick. The next day I went to my local Sephora and purchased the same lipstick. Was in from out of town for a special occasion. Made an appointment for a full face makeover. Got Britney and she was really talented and a really nice person. Great to chat with. She knew exactly what products to use, how to do my shadow, applied lashes and basically made me look better than ever. Everyone in the store was super helpful and nice. And at 48 I might not be Sephora's ideal candidate for a makeover since I'm not 25. But it was a great experience. read more

Incredibly rude and unprofessional staff at this location. I was screamed at by one of the cashiers for no reason today...I went to the register to purchase something online that they no longer had in stock at the store. The woman was using a tablet to register my purchase but the tablet wasn't responding. She began to curse at the tablet, saying that it never works. Then she started to blame my card- that my shipping address probably isn't compatible. I told her the shipping address was correct and she continued to get more frustrated at the tablet. She didn't try to ask for help or try to make the purchase on another tablet. I stood there waiting for her to say something to me or for her to figure out an alternative. I got nervous because she was bending my card in her attempt to make it respond to the tablet. I thought she was going to snap my card in half! She also ran my card aggressively through the tablet about 10-15 times. With no explanation she then showed me the tablet, which at this point had nothing on it. I said in confusion, "Theres nothing on it." She didn't respond to me and proceeded to hold up the tablet to my face..Having no idea what she was trying to show me all I could say was, "So theres nothing you can do?" She didn't respond to me and just continued to shove the tablet even closer to my face. After awkwardly standing there for ten more seconds, all I could do was shake my head and walk away. As I proceeded to walk away about 10 feet past the register she screams over, "I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU'RE GETTING MAD AT ME?!" Everyone was staring as I tried to explain I wasn't mad at her which made things even more embarrassing. I went to the manager to make her aware of the situation and asked if there was anything she could do... She said she could find another tablet to make the purchase but at that point with no apologies being made and no one acknowledging the situation, I felt really uncomfortable and decided to leave. No one should be treated like this. Hopefully in the future they hire professional more polite people so no one has to deal with a situation like I did today. read more

Came here a few times recently, and I've had consistent experiences so far. Someone always greets me when I enter the store. The girls are the register/ringing me up have always been pleasant with my returns or purchases. People on the floor are helpful, usually offering help. Once, I asked a girl for help and she led me over to the eyeliners I needed, but she looked kind of miserable, slumped shoulders, disgruntled expression on her face. But she wasn't rude and it didn't turn me off. Just something I noticed. Hey, everyone has good and bad days, and I think overall, the customer service here is solid. Maybe not bright cheery smiles all the time, but you're always getting the help you need. As for the products, I've always found what I needed (even if I needed to be steered in the right direction by staff). The products are not messy or out of place. Looks clean and organized. Lines do form very quickly here, and there always seems to be a wait even if they have all everyone on hand ringing up purchases. Whenever I go to any Sephora, I try to allot more time to wait. read more

Let me start by saying that I love Sephora in general, but I'm thinking of never going to another one again and taking my well over $1K annual beauty product spending (VIB Rouge status) elsewhere - Ulta, Amazon, department stores, manufacturers' websites, wherever - after my experience at the Menlo Park mall store, where I went to return some unused & unopened items with receipts last night. This place has terrible customer service. It has got to be the worst Sephora ever. Looooong checkout lines, mostly because there aren't enough cashiers open and the ones that are open are very poorly trained. They don't even know their own return policy & each cashier just makes it up as they go along - one said 1 yr time limit, another said 2 yrs. Cashier told me that since receipts were old, they couldn't accept the returns. Shame on me for not reading the return policy beforehand and calling her out right then and there. Fact: there is no time limit stated in the return policy on the back of their receipt (see pic), except for online purchases, which are limited to 60 days for return to a store. When I asked her if it would work to do returns as if I didn't have receipts she said yes, sure, and to give her my ID so she could process. Shame on her for a) not knowing the return policy, and b) not telling me what the consequence of processing as non-receipted return would be. It went through this 3rd party vendor called The Return Equation (check out their awful Yelp reviews, linked below, if you have time). They rejected my return and essentially implied that it appeared to be a fraudulent return (ex: stealing stuff & returning it - only I had the receipt). The experience was embarrassing and infuriating, especially since I had the receipts all along and the cashier knew this. But since she didn't know the return policy, it turned into this messy situation instead. Oh, and I had to ask her to give me my unaccepted for return products back - they would've kept them if I hadn't asked. She didn't even apologize for that. How rude! And shady, and incompetent.... An overall awful experience that made me feel compelled to vent by posting this review and sharing it with everyone. Also, as a warning: don't give up your ID if you're returning something with a receipt, because your return activity is being tracked and it will be held against you. Avoid this store at all costs. It needs major improvement in customer service. None of the staff in the Sephora Edison, NJ store is helpful. Instead, they're rude, immature, and act like a bunch of high school mean girls. After my experience today, I felt I had stepped into the twilight zone. If you're rude, you'll get a lot of attention and service in this store it seems. While being helped at the cash register, this other customer cut the line and complained about something she had bought earlier. Instead of my cashier telling this other customer to wait - because she's in the middle of helping me - she started helping out the other customer and just left me hanging. What's more, none of the other employees - who were just kibutzing with one another - bothered to help. I was so confused. After waiting several minutes - and my credit card still in the card machine - I spoke up to get her attention. Then she and her coworkers looked at me as if I were the bad guy, made excuses and snickered. Quite the characters. I like this location very much. I'm not a super needy customer, so I don't really want folks coming up to me every 5 minutes and asking me if I need things. Not to say that the employees here are inattentive- they're not. I think they can sense someone who knows what they want and also when someone is completely clueless. I've been the latter before and someone came up to me just as I asked myself "wtf?!" in my head. That's good CS in my opinion. The cult favorites are sold out usually but they always offer to have it shipped to your home address which is very nice but I never indulge because I'm about that instant gratification life. I come here frequently to purchase my beauty needs, but more frequently for fragrances. The young lady who works the fragrances is spectacular. I am very picky with perfume and she did not give up asking me questions about what I like and dislike in the fragrances she was showing me and kept suggesting new ones until I finally landed on the perfect one. It is definitely a lot more crowded than the average sephora but what else can you expect, New Yorkers come to shop here too so it's getting a lot more traffic than the average New Jersey Mall. Lines tend to get long during the holidays and sales but it's usually no worse then the stores I frequent in Manhattan. read more

I love this branch it's quite big ( of course not as big as the one by 34th street or time square in nyc) but big enough for a jersey branch. It's well organized and clean. They're usually fully stocked and when they say they have an item in this branch online they hold true to that. The staff here is friendly and eager to help. Although I have experienced this branch during the holidays and some of the people that work here get a little testy (thus the -1 star). The best time to visit this branch are mornings or early afternoon on weekdays. Try not to visit here after 3pm on weekdays and all day weekends because it gets pretty crowded. read more

The worst Sephora and the worst store I have ever been to! Went to purchase 5 items from Dior makeup. The store was out of all products except one and on the 1 I wanted to check out different shades of, they were out of 9 of them! I asked to see a manager and when I pointed out that to an almost empty shelf pointing out that perhaps store needs to check stock levels more frequently, she said that products were on recall due to a bad batch. Well, perhaps it is true, and I would let it go if it weren't my second visit to this store and on the previous occasion I also walked out empty-handed because they were out of stock of Nars eyeliner. The manager was defensive and not courteous. As I was leaving, she literally shouted twice "have a nice day." Store definitely can use better inventory control and train its employees. I know it's just a few days before Christmas, and I'm sure the staff at Sephora is already exhausted, but I received some major snark from a woman who appeared to possibly be a manager of some sort, based on how I observed her buzzing around the store both before our interaction and after. She asked me if I needed help and I told her that I was just looking for some inspiration. Her response: "well, Christmas is in two days, you know," and she walked away to help someone else. What I guess I should have said was, "I know my price point, I know what I want to get, I really just wanted to browse a bit first," but I thought that may have come off as rude. Apparently, I shouldn't have worried about that since her response to me was so rude. I may not be a frequent flyer at Sephora, but I also don't need to be lead through the entire purchase like an invalid, either. I would not recommend this location and my experience this morning is enough for me to boycott all Sephora stores going forward. I registered for a class about 6 weeks ago and I was so excited about it. I was 5 minutes late. While I knocked on the door for ten minutes one of the employees who saw me multiple times in that ten minutes ignored me before going into the side door. She was tall with long dirty blonde/light brown hair. A dwarfy looking manager finally came to the door and looked at me disapprovingly before making a weak excuse for his rude employee. This Sephora needs to retrain their staff. I had a return and they didn't have the item I wanted to exchange it with so I told the lady I wanted to return the time first then exchange it by ordering online. So the lady at the register ignored what I said and put ALL my money back on store credit and I asked if I could use this for the order she said no. I then proceeded to ask her why did you put it back on store credit? She said because I said so and I did not say anything related to store credit. Then I asked to order the item she said to me" Why cant you just buy it here" I said because you guys are sold out of it. This girl continued to play with her hair while giving me BS responses. Let me start by saying I used to LOVE this Sephora. I love makeup, I like doing my own makeup, but would come here when I had a big event. I started going here in 2015. First time I got my makeup done was November 2015 for my baby shower. I went back for my birthday March 2016 & Jared did my makeup & I loved it. I went back in July 2016 for my wedding (twice because our reception was a different day from our wedding day) & Dimitra did it both days & it was flawless. I went again in August 2016 because I was MOH in a wedding & Jared did my makeup again beautifully. I went for the second to last time in December 2016 for my son's first birthday & kris (don't remember her full name sorry) did my makeup- I loved it. I didn't go back to the store until this past holiday season (I have flash shipping so I normally shop online). The store changed around & I didn't see any employee that I recognized at all. I was getting my makeup done for a family photo shoot. I had high expectations since I had such great experiences before, but this last time was awful. One women went through a skincare routine I should do & I felt very pushed to buy the products she used even though I said I wasn't interested I already had in mind what I wanted to purchase. She still went & brought the products to put them in my basket. After, another woman started to do my makeup & I could feel what she was doing wrong. When she finished, i felt rushed & just paid & left. I got in my car & saw how terrible my face makeup looked. My face didn't match my neck, my contour was way too high & my eyelashes were coming off. I cleaned my face off & re did the makeup myself. I wish I took a photo of it because it was really bad I was so upset. I had always left a great review because they asked me to & because they deserved it. I didn't leave a bad review the last time because I hate doing that, I feel it's spiteful especially since they ask for names. Ever since they changed employees, IMO it's gone downhill. read more

First Sephora store I went to was in NYC and found an awesome cologne for my fiancé. The sales guy listened clearly to what I wanted and quickly found me the exact scent I'd been searching for. Store was really busy but you'd never know as we received full attention from the salesman. Was so pleased but get most things online so I didn't really need to go back till recently. Thankfully they are in a mall close by and I'm getting back into my makeup and stuff. Obviously I Love this place! Decided last minute to check it out because I needed some things. Went there COMPLETELY CLUELESS about exactly what I needed. From my online beauty research I had an idea of what I was looking to achieve beauty-wise and had some product names but wasn't sure which kind I needed exactly. I knew I couldn't afford to buy everything just to try them out so I thought I'd ask which they thought may be best. Instead......The salesgirl just gave me samples of everything I mentioned so I could try them out at home and see which worked best before buying!!! I had no idea they could even do that so I was soooooo ecstatic. She even recommended things I asked about & gave samples of those but NEVER pushed anything on me. She only showed me things I asked about and I bought a great face wash that I wanted. Just like NYC sales guy, She was patient and answered all my questions happily. I even learned a few things! This is not only a place where you can find the best make up artists when it comes to artistry but also this is the place where you can learn all the techniques you need to know to use all the products they sell! Many times you go home with a bag full of make up or skin care products from any store and have no idea how to use it when you get home! In this location, you will never have to worry about that! Their employees take their time to explain to you how to use everything. What I love the most is their honesty! If something don't look right on you they will tell you! I walked into this Sephora already knowing what I wanted to get so I didn't have to ask anyone this time around. I found my products., wandered around a bit, then got into line to pay for my things. There was one person ringing people out....one person and there was a line of people behind me also waiting to pay. As I stood there, I noticed 2 other staff members chit chatting behind her at the counter and joking around, totally oblivious about the line. Then I looked around and saw another 3-4 people standing around near the register looking at incoming customers. Why bother having that much staff around when you have just one person behind the register?? When customers see staff doing this, it's annoying and gives such s negative impression. Worst experience trying to do an exchange here today, the sweet girl at the register obviously was pretty new and didn't really know what she was doing, so she had her supervisor called over a few times to ask questions and the supervisor/ manager seemed very annoyed and was very unhelpful! I usually go into Sephora to browse, but today I went in needing help and guidance to buy foundation and mascara. The sales people were inattentive, unfriendly, unfocused, and one (Jared) was downright rude. He behaved as if I was not worthy of his attention. I had to search out multiple sales people multiple times to ask questions about different products. The mascaras for sampling were all dry, but I didn't say anything because I did not feel like being subjected to their crap attitudes. After my shopping experience here, I was drained and angry. I would have spent twice as much money if the salespeople were helpful, but instead I bought two things and got the hell out.
